access my rogers account - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my rogers HTC dream and installed cyanogen-4.0.4 with no problems.
Prior to rooting my phone I noticed there was a 'my rogers account' page I could access some stuff about my account with.
Is there anyway to get this app on a rooted phone?
Thanks

[Q] what to do next?

i have a rooted htc hero cdma sprint phone.
firmware 1.5
build # 1.56.651.2 cl85027 release keys
software version 1.56.651.2
i rooted this by using this
what i want to do is go to 2.? software without losing root access.
i did not go to step 3 on that page, because all i wanted was to use the tether program.
what is a rom i should use,and how to use it, to still have root access and be able to go to the 2.? software?
thanks to anyone who responds
flash the .5 version of the rom(RUU) and then root again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
thats how i did it with the newest update. after that you can flash nfinites .6 sw version to have the latest stock sw while retaining root.
i hope that that is clear...if you follows the guides on here, everything will go very smoothly
ok
im lookinking for the .5 version of the rom,but i dont know what that is. i did go to the page and can follow the directions when i understand what that is
Now that you're rooted, all you have to do is flash nfinitefx45's Stock de-odexed ROM -- it is the latest official 2.1 release from Sprint, with root access (super-user permissions), wifi tether, and Apps2SD support added. Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703267 Follow all the directions there.
You can ignore the post above -- you don't have to run the 2.1 RUU in order to run a 2.1 ROM. I am running the ROM I listed and I'm still on the 1.5 root.
thanks
thank you i will try that now.
just a what if ?
what if i update to stock 2.1 with no update and then root from there? will that work? or will i be "barred" from doing that by some thing?i was just asking because reading about the rom you showed me there were some things that do not "work" correctly or just didnt work at all.i know that by reading all the coments.
just a what if
thanks
Yes, you can upgrade to the official 2.1 RUU using HTC Sync if you want. There is a way to root that version too but it's located in a different post in the Development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
thanks again
thanks again leaf
all i want is to have the most up to date or most powerful device i can have still with the root access, not to much to ask for seeing how i pay my bill every month.
Hey check it out I'm running 2.1,thanks again.

HTC restart problems
Hi to all,
I bought a new HTC model A6288 G3 + Hero and I pressed the button "Return to factory settings" with both SIM and microSD removed. Window opens to restart Windows, then the indication is "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Phone." I clicked and pops with "align screen" after I used the stylus to align. Hence no longer happen. I can go one way or window. To turn off your Pocket PC must remove the battery.
In the Add / Remove Programs I have left only three programs, but to Explore My Windows Mobile-Based Device Windows folder there(with activesync help).
How can I solve this problem, if anybody knows? Thanks very much.
@dankdank11 -- Glad you got everything figured out!
@cj15pas -- I think you have posted in the wrong forum. This one here is for the Sprint-based Hero that is running Android, not Windows. You should go post your question in the Q&A of the other HTC Hero: G2 Touch forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=508

Walking my brother through rooting, need some help going forward

I'm on the Evo now but my lil bro has a Hero and wants to root. I rooted my Hero back in February and I just don't remember what is necessary. From my RSS feeds I heard about the "universal androot apk" from http://software2tech.com/2010/08/29...6-2-beta-5released-and-available-for-download
So he did that and he rebooted phone, all is normal. I told him to download busybox to test and it says he's rooted but NAND is not unlocked (tells me its just a partial root). How can I get him to a full root?
Also, I should probably know this by now, but can he flash Fresh2.4 without NAND unlocked?
here ya go...
NO @ partial root... and...
from CyanogenMOD Wiki...
It has been verified that the HTC Hero CDMA can be rooted using the Universal Androot method. This seems to work reliably if your Hero is running 2.27.651.5; however some users have reported problems with later releases of the software (2.27.651.6 and 2.27.651.7). In these cases you may need to revert back to the original 2.27.651.5 from Sprint -- this is the initial release of the Android 2.1 software for the Hero.
If you need to downgrade your phone from the .6 or .7 variations use the following steps (reference: theunlockr):
Locate the original Android 2.1 software released by Sprint. A google search using the terms: "RUU" and "2.27.651.5" should lead you in the correct direction. Download this software to your desktop/laptop computer.
Download and install HTC Sync on your computer.
Connect your Hero Handset to your computer using a USB cable (make sure your handset is at least 75% charged).
Run the 2.27.651.5 RUU on your computer. It will flash and update your handset with the original Android 2.1.
The steps in the Universal Androot should now work.

you need to flash custom recovery easiest way to do that is d/l rom manager from the market and flash it using that. So while your phone is rooted you just don't have a custom recovery.
The partial root is odd since I had never heard it before until hitting up the Evo forum since most of us on the Heros were able to root are phone and flash a custom recovery in a couple of steps I think the Evo first rooting method only allowed rooting but didn't allow for a custom recovery to be added until about a month after it was out, you still see alot fo the rooting method where you have to root the evo and the unlock nand. So technically it is fully rooted but only partially unlocked ( when people wer say half root I was like theres only rooted and not no such thing as half)
Google SuperOneClick. It works per the latest .7 update. Really good, and really easy.

Root HowTo Samsung Captivate

Hi folks. New member. Also a new owner of Samsung Captivate. I just bought it yesterday. My provider is AT&T.
I want to root it so I can tether, ssh, etc?
However, I've see few posts related to Captivate and only one thread got answered. So is rooting Captivate unreliable?
I also couldn't find the root HOWTO for gaining root access on a Samsung Captivate. Can anyone please help?
Thanks,
Neil
Same here, new device, can run sw to root phone but does not work -> Failure To Root -- read below ->
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A little new to this but the ATT Captivate does not do much after rooting the device.
I ran the Captivate One Click Root program, and it did indeed install the files and after selecting the volume down arrow the device reboots.
The Superuser Icon is there under applications, but if I put any APK on the device or pull one from other markets it is still blocked from installing.
Two problems:
When selecting the superuser icon the program launches but nothing displays.
Running any other apk displays the message "Install Blocked for security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market." [arguhhhh!]
I am sure others will run into this. I just picked up this device and can forge some ground if anyone has suggestions on how to proceed next ???
Need to enable side-loading. But it's been so long since I've enabled it on a "stock" ROM I forgot how
use SuperOneClick to enable non market apps

I used CLShortFuse's app here - worked beautifully - thanks dood

Best thing you can do to this phone is put on custom roms. They have all that.

CUSTOM roms are already rooted. it sounds like you are on the leaked FroYo rom and not a custom.
this page (read carefully) will root you, enable sideloading, and allow you to remove ATT apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797397
there is also the superoneclick.... IT IS NOT IN THE MARKET. it is a download on these forums. it is something you run from your PC
Thanks a lot guys ... you're so helpful. I will try to do it when I get some free time... by the way Pirateghost is there any way to change my froyo to CUSOM roms instead of the leaked froyo?

Noob question re:restoring email settings and apps after rom flash

Total noob here. Hope this is a legit post.
I have rooted my CDMA Hero using Hero Rooter and have superuser permissions. Have successfully flashed CM7 using ROM Manager. Have MyBackup Root installed also and have done nandroid backup also. I cannot figure out how to restore my email settings (pop and exchange) and applications post flash. Google contacts returned fine when signing on/up to Google.
I have gone back to stock rom but would like to stick with CM7. Sorry if I am missing the obvious. How do i get the email and apps back on the new ROM? A recommendation for a contact manager to replace what Sense People widget would be appreciated also

How to unroot and get stock rom

Sprint accepted my phone for replacement. The only phone they have for free is Samsung Replenish. I have CyjanogenMod7 installed on my Hero. What I have to do so I can easy and fast remove everything so they can't tell what I used?
I still can't find stock rom.zip so I could just flash it after reboot.
Please help.
Do I need to do anything else beside flashing to stock rom?
I found some old backup on sd card. I succesfully installed stock rom. Is this enough? Can I go to Sprint store to replace the phone legally?
Just run a stock RUU,,, you can get it here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804692&highlight=sprint+stock+ruu
or here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608434&highlight=sprint+stock+ruu
later
I couldn't...
I gave phones to Sprint store. Manager told me just be looking at HTC logo(no Sprint Now network screen) that he sees that it's rooted. I asked if he want s me to go home and uninstall it but he told me that "No, you will probably be unable to root your new replacement which is Samsung Replenish". So I had no legal problems with rooted phones.
