i like oldies music, so i listen to kearth 101. now im not sure all the ways that are possible to do this, but what i usually do when im not in my car, is just go to the website. unfortunately i just tried it and it says i need flash =/
how would i go about getting my tunes on my g1? i know theres those streaming apps, like i think its called streamfurious, but i dont know how to find the station on that.
also about how muh battery would doing this kill anyway?
thanks!
well the flash thing can be answered now. if u really want the music u could flash any hero rom as the browser has flash9.
nahh i dont wanna risk a brick.. i already got cyanogens 4.0.4 and stuff.. you know the basics. i dont think im ready/up to/ have time for the hero roms
Do you know their web site address
use streamfurious search option and use the call sign of the station you want then pick "tune in" if your using edge it may take a minute or two to show up on the app.
hope this helps.
K-earth 101 is listed in streamfurious pro. Under CBS stations>Los Angeles.
It'll eat a lot of data if used hour after hour though.

There's no need to use Streamfurious Pro. Here's how you can get it into normal Streamfurious:
1. Install StreamFurious (free) on your phone.
2. Open your phone browser and browse to http://www.thestreamcenter.com/search.asp?name=k-earth
3. Tap on one of the two "listen live" links on the right side. (Try the 64kb one first if your signal is generally good).
4. Choose StreamFurious to handle the intent.
5. The station should then be added into your SF list.
Edit: By the way why not give public radio a try? Expand your mind and social awareness. KPCC is a pretty good station. It's already preprogrammed into SF's database.

Yo use "Pandora" to stream music. Its definantly a 5 star app and works great on an EDGE connection. Trust me try it, nothing compares.

After seeing iPhone apps and trying out a G1 for a while, I'd like to have some of the apps available on these phones on my Tilt. The problem is, I can't find some of the nicer ones available for Windows Mobile.
Netflix App - I'd love to have one of these but from all my searching I can't find one. I know you can browse their website with a browser, but it would be so much nicer to have an application that pulls up just the data I need quickly and easily.
Price Scanning App - I loved this app on the G1. You scan a bardcode and it tells you the product name, gives you reviews, and shows you a list of local prices and online prices for that product.
Yellowpages App - I saw this on on the G1 (and I think it's out for the iPhone too). It's just a yellowpages.com search interface inside an app.
Restaurant Search and Reviews App - Something that either uses GPS or something where I can enter my zip code. Allows me to narrow down restaurants by pricing and type of food. Reviews would be a nice plus.
Webcam App - I had this on my G1 and loved it. I was able to connect to my panasonic webcam and view it by simply launching the app.
Are any of the above available for Windows Mobile?
Windows Mobile has never had such complex apps.
Maybe buy an iPhone or a G1?

Alright, here is my contribution to the XDA society:
Barcorama was found in less than two minutes by using the googlized search option. Just click HERE!
As for your webcam app, you can use orb.com to access more than just your webcam from your PPC, or PDA.
The other ones, I didnt really get too far into looking at, because kidNamedAlbert is right, those are some uber complex precesses.
Remember, also search first and when you feel you just can't find it, search again. Chances are, it's out there.
hope this helps
I don't understand the want or need to have 10 different apps that all search for some very specific thing when one app that can do it all is much more convenient. what if I want to look up a restaurant's number, call them, make a reservation, and then get a map to their? should I have to use 4 different programs to accomplish that, or should I just use one (google maps)? heck, Live Search does all that, AND can also do it with voice recognition. and tell you the weather while you travel.
If you look hard enough you can find all this functionality with existing WM apps, as per above.
Try microsoft's free windows live for what you are looking fore and more. It's fee.
www.wls.live.com
Or even Google maps at www.google.com/mobile.
Enjoy it.

Totally agree!
In addition: GARMIN MOBILE XT in version 5.0 does it all too - has in addition even a CALL DESTINATION feature.
I just do not understand the need of people to have web application 'installed' in their devices! Well, maybe I am getting too old for all that, who knows?
<Damn, now I sound like a smart ass, LOL>
Google updated their google maps program with a new function called latitude.
go to http//google.com/latitude to download

Im using it now, its cool that you can turn it off, hide, sign out etc, i think it will come in handy at some point....added to the collection
I am trying to install this on my phone, but every time I try to install it's failing and saying please reinstall and opening internet explorer with download page.
installing as we speak.... question though which I didnt quite understand from the page I read on it. In order for me to see someone on the phone... say... my wife... she also has to have this program installed? It would be awesome if it was a simple as putting in someones phone number and you could get a trace on them haha... like in the movies
trying to install but it keeps giving me an error saying it cannot find the URL required during the Midilet install. help?
I downloaded this but will the Manila/TF2D tabs still point correctly to Google Maps?

I'm for instead of new features, they fix it for VGA. If you have a vga or larger screen, allow us to zoom in more than a 2 block radius. I miss being about to zoom to 2 house wide zoom.
The file GoogleMaps cannot be found...
Anybody getting this when trying to get this to work via contact menu?

Yeah she have to have this installed. And you need two Google account. One for you and your wife. Run the program then hide it in the background. The stalking begins.. Lol
You can also view from igoogle. It says that it's unavailable in my location, but if i go to m.google.com/latitude in my browser, it takes me back to igoogle and latitude works.
Installed yesterday, working like a charm. Like a couple others have mentioned, it only gives me the download if I use PIE.
It's really pretty cool, especially the "exit but hidden" feature. I hate having anything in my task list
I'm running into a ton of bugs with this, on the PRoven 1.14a ROM.
THe first time I run it, all is fine. But the second time, I get a lot of nonsense in the menus. The left softkey says "your phone number" or "los angeles," depending on which screen I'm on, then brings up functions that don't seem to make any sense ...
If I uninstall, then reinstall, all is fine the first time I run it. And it goes wacky the second time again.
Here's the cab if anyone wants it.
This is an awesome feature...wife and i tested it today. Now my two oldest kids (sitting on WM devices) can't get away with the stuff my wife and I did when they start high school next year. I am so happy I'm not old. I'm such a ninja father!

aha ninja father's
But do they have google maps always on?
If the wm phone is off it isn't possible to look where they are or am i wrong?
I installed latitude but i'm the only one on the map (i know i don't have any friends. but it would be nice to look where my kids are.
Then it will be Xmas tomorrow, they get a nice wm machine
Installed it and it works like a charm. Combined with the new radio (for better GPS locking), its an awesome application.
Thanks!

My buddy wants to get into android, but he was curious if there was an app where he could control his computer remotely. Like tell it to download something?
That seems extreme and not feasible to me. Any apps out there close to this though?
I need to pull up gmote and see its capabilities.

I think that you might be able to control your computer with VNC but I haven't tried.
In regards to downloading... sure. There are a lot of torrent apps that will connect to your bittorrent clients (such as utorrent or whatever). You just need to make sure everything is set up properly.
Yeah, he has utorrent on his computer currently. So can he see his desktop on his droid and open up programs on his computer?
If so, that seems unreal to me. I looked and saw on gmotes site they had a beta that sounded like this.
Can anyone confirm? Thank you guys.

If he's using a Windows Desktop, there is a RDP client on the App Market, just search for RDP. He will need to have his router setup to forward the proper ports (3389 TCP) to his computer for it to work, but I've used it to download things in a pinch, and copy it up to a webserver to download on my G1....
he's not gonna be doing anything ridiculous on it, remember there is a HUGE resolution difference b/t G1/DROID/Mobiles in general vs Computer Resolutions...
Okay, sounds very intriguing.
Let me word it differently though:
From his Droid, would he be able to see his desktop and scroll to uTorrent and tell it to download something, to his computer, not the droid.
You guys are awesome. I am floored that our G1 can do what you guys have told me. I obviously need to move beyond flashing roms and themes and learn what the guts can do.

Really what it sounds like you're asking, is he can remotely connect to his desktop, use it to search for and download the torrent file, and open it in the torrent client...? Complete remote control of his computer from off-site...? I don't know about you guys, but I have to search for and find a torrent file from a tracking site (demonoid, thepiratebay, etc.) and d/l that, then open it in my torrent client (utorrent).
I don't think this is capable yet... but I'm interested to hear more about this from those that know.
Remote Desktop Client works just like RDP and will allow you to log into your computer at home from your android phone using your windows login. Once logged in you have your trackball to move the mouse and can do anything you could do sitting in front of your computer. Its a $15 app which is really high for android OS but its been more than worth $15 all the times its saved my butt.
I also use it to monitor my utorrent download remotely.

If he has uTorrent then he can just set up the webui and forward his utorrent port on his/her router to the ip address of the computer. then download Transdroid (what I use because it has a decent widget) and set that up. TIP: use no-ip (or whatever) to set up a static ip address and change the name (like [email protected]) so you can just input that in the Default Server settings in the Transdroid preferences. It also uses isoHunt, Mininova, BT Junkie and even allows you to enter your own to search for new torrents. When you find one to download simply select it and it sends it to the computer. From there the uTorrent client will open the torrent that was sent and starts the download process. You can easily track the status of the active torrents on the client with it as well.
There are some out there that will even let you scan a barcode of a movie (useful if your in the video store) and it'll lookup the movie and send the torrent to your pc and it'll start downloading. If you have a decent enough internet connection you can go to the video store, scan a movie in the New Releases section, leave empty handed, get some Jack In The Box and by the time you get home the movie can already be on your computer ready to be viewed/burned. And it's not just for movies. It's for any other type of torrent.
This evening I see a new radio.com Android app announced (it wasn't there earlier today). Again there is the stupid no-Android-phone limitation in the Android Market. I've tried all my tricks in the various search engines to no avail. If you have a link for the apk file, would please post it? Thanks!

Thank you for grabbing this for me.
Thank you very much for taking the time to snag this radio.com apk file for me. But now I'm sorry if I wasted your time. The app loads quickly and displays the lists of stations. but will not play any stream. Whatever station I try -- e.g., KRLD-1080 Dallas or KYW-1060 Phila -- the station logo displays and the gTablet grays out the screen, "buffering" with a whirly graphic. The audio never plays. In Settings I turned on Mock Settings and restarted the unit. No go.
At least the stations play when dialed up in the Web browser, but if you leave the specific browser window the audio stream stops. There is no sharing multiple browser windows.
Again, I appreciate your time and effort. Perhaps Android phone users can make use of the app. I just don't get it. These Android tablets have been out for 6 or 8 months, apparently selling reasonably well, and the apps won't load or run on anything but cell phones.

It's coming. Google is just now making Android for tablets (Honeycomb.) Now that Honeycomb's sdk is on the way you can expect to see many more apps being built for these devices.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Have you tried TuneIn Radio? It works great and it's free. You can download it at freewarelovers.com.
Thanks for the tip on Tunein Radio. I use iheartradio and Pandora on my Blackberry Tour from time to time, but I'll take a look at this app for the gTablet. The radio.com was interesting to me in that it provides access to many of the 24/7 all-news AM broadcasters around the country. In our situation, when away from home, we can listen to New York and Philadelphia news. And... these past few days... I find it amusing to listen to KRLD-1080 with the wailing and cries of pain on the weather in Arlington, Texas. Poor babies. Heck, here in the Pine Barrens of NJ, we've had significant snow cover since the days before Christmas (and today with it finally at 44F I managed to chip off a 1" layer of ice on the part of the driveway).
Tom
Blackbird, that TuneIn Radio app is great. Thanks! Audio streams begin immediately, and there are a ton (or two or three) of stations in the inventory, including the all-news stations I like. There is one station that I listen to that is listed as not streaming: WNAR-AM-1620 is a 24/7 old-time radio low-power broadcaster that actually does stream audio at http://wnar-am.com/. Gotta listen to The Shadow Sat and Sun evenings at 10 Eastern ... but I use an app on the PC to automatically record the shows I like whether I'm around or not. This TuneIn app was a great recommendation for me. Thanks again.
Tom
asdr, thanks for the reply. Actually I think the next question has be to answered by Viewsonic. Will these gTablets be upgraded to Android 3.0 Honeycomb? From what I read and in talking with a knowledgeable friend I get the impression the end user features are more gingerbread than substance and the hardware requirements don't appear to be all that different if at all. My perception is the underlying code will offer programmers and developers significantly more and better options to make their applications fly. But then I stopped programming with dBASE a long time ago and my skill set is sorely lacking, so what do I know?
Tom
TuneIn radio
I discovered TuneIn a few weeks ago after reading about it via another post. I had used IHeartRadio on my phone but could not get it to play on my GTab. Without the XDA development and this forum I may have been an ICrap victim.
With more and more radio stations streaming using flash players you could search out sites such as radio-locator.com and try out those listed there. Found it most entertaining in the past!
Just wanted to add my thanks for the heads-up on Tune In radio - great find!

Has this happened to anyone else. When using this application it causes my tablet to either reboot or it shuts off and hitting the power button causes the unit to start up again. Looks promising but I guess I will uninstall and stick with tunein radio.

Regards,
Been using radiotime and it is the best radio app available I think. It was not available for me in the market, so I downloaded it on my vibrant and transfered it over to the gtab. The interface works great on the gtab!

While the Radio.com app didn't work for me -- upon launching just showing a non-stop whirlygig -- it didn't stop my tablet from working. I could just back out to the [classic] menu.
The TuneIn Radio application works very well for me. It drops to the background for listening while I'm tooling around the Web looking at news, finance, whatever.

For the moment, i am completely free of any Sense-Apps, except SenseTV. As i really would like to get rid of Sense completely in the near future, i wonder if there's any app that could substitute what SenseTV does at the moment. I really like the idea of browsing the current TV program and just click on the channels name for switchting the TV to it. I know that OtrtA can send custom IR-Codes via URI-Call, so i'd just need some kind of TV Guide that lets me configure a specified action for clicking on the channels (or shows) name. Any ideas?
