Ok I have searched and not run across anything without reading every thread in here.
How do I change my default input method from keyboard to letter recognizer and MAKE it stick.
I change it i the input menu and reg edits but every time I soft reset it is back.
...we're on the same boat :?

I'm after the phone pad so I can still use the 8125/Wiz screen as a normal phone keypad at times and not have to whip out the stylus.
whatever you do, dont use registry wizard to set it... I white screened a week ago doing that, hard reset
hope to find a solution
Perhaps this:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP
DefaultIM {42429667-.... or one of the others {42429690- {42429691-
Look in the neighborhoud HKCR\CLSID\{424296...... for the others.
Cheers
edit: In case it wasn't clear you need to fill in the whole CLSID in the DefaultIM string value. So {42429667- including the } at the end.
It should work after a soft reset (gone with a hard reset)
Any Solutions to this yet?
Thanks
Jules

yes but i make a hard reset after the first try (manually change registry with tcmd) and i try in another way...white screen in every try
lost in translation...
I was saying that if you TRY to use registry wizard to set it, you will get a white screen, and be left having to HARD RESET....
Not the best solution, but perhaps you could use my program SwitchSip to change the SIP on every soft reset. I don't know if it'll stick though, I've never tried...

i don't know why there is no possiblity to change default IM in the WM configuration.

I think we've all tried the method. Read the posts above carefully.
Just as a problem recap: the default SIP reghack no longer works on AKU2 ROMS. The kbd default occurs after a soft reset no matter what you have changed the registry value to.
I'm working on this one too. I coded up a program that quickly set the SIP to block recognizer and exited figuring I could just add it to the startup programs folder to switch over after a soft reset.
However, while this program works just great normally, it doesn't change the SIP when run at startup. I am working on why this is, currently. So far I've determined that my program is able to find the block recognizer SIP so the SIP dll is loaded. Tomorrow I may get a few more minutes to work on it. I'll code my program to check to see if it correctly set the SIP to block recognizer and re-attempt to change until it's successful. I'm guessing that this will have no effect on the issue since my current working theory is that the kbd default is set sometime after the startup programs run.
Guys, I don't know whether my app worked or not, but this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=317635#317635
seems to suggest it did. I don't have a wizard to test it on though

@vijay555:
I've got my little app set up on my today screen so I can just tap it quickly after everything's loaded to change my sip but it won't work if I drop it into my startup folder.
Perhaps this is what the poster you refer to is doing? Does your program check the default SIP using SipGetCurrentIM after you switch to see if the operation worked? Or do you just check for an error code after calling SipSetCurrentIM. Me, I'm just checking for an error currently and am not getting one.
Sleuth255: I really can't remember how I did it, I wrote it in c++ before I could program in c++, somehow. I'm on a promise to rewrite it sometime, and turn it into VJSipSwitch, for now it's merely a bastard child.
However, despite this, it's also designed to be configured as a shortcut to be launched from a hardware key or shortcut... if it becomes an issue, I'll look over the code again.

Can you please provide a solution to this problem? I have several soft keyboards (SIPs) and every time I go to select one, I have to wait ten seconds for the keyboard list to appear (pop-up). I click on the little arrow next to the right of the keyboard icon and the list of soft keyboards shows up 8-10 seconds later. PLEASE HELP…
I've seen others post some sort of fix for this. It involves removing some software or something like that. Do a search on something like keyboard list or SIP list.
Wait, I just found the thread. You started that thread also and an answer was supplied. Why did you start a new thread? Did that not work? Even so, why not just keep posting in that one? What the hell? Is it a hobby of yours to open new threads to just keep asking the same question?

EDIT: Dude! This is the 3rd time you opened a thread and asked the same question!!!

Thanks For Nothing…
I saw it however the solution wasn’t saying why it works. Anyway, THANKS TO YOU, I followed that solution and now all my soft keyboards are gone. The only keyboard I see in the list is the default built-in keyboard. You killed my Tilt, it doesn’t even function after a soft reset. THANKS FOR NOTHING…

I have added two soft keyboards to my AT&T Tilt and when I try to select them by clicking on the up arrow next to the keyboard icon; it takes ~8 seconds for the keyboard list to appear. How can I reduce this time by modifying a registry key?
As I read in a forum, using a Registry Editor go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and export CLSID.
Delete CLSID and then run the file you exported before (CLSID.reg).It will ask if you want to import the file and you press "Yes".
Don't know why it works because it's the same thing, but it works!
And opening the same exact thread every other day was your response? maybe if you dialoged with the person, you'd get some feedback.
And apparently others have gotten it to work just fine. You are the only person who's "Tilt got Kilt" by this.
Any time you decide to mess with the Registry, you know the possible consequences. Blaming me or anyone else for your mistake is LAUGHABLE. A hard reset will basically allow you to do over. So your phone isn't dead, as you want to have us believe. And then you will say, I didn't have a backup. And somehow, that also will be our fault. People like you make people not want to provide help.

Ha, sorry you lost your keyboards, the saying I like most on this forum is "If you can't take the heat, stay out of the ROM Kitchen".
If you delete that registry entry and NOT restore it correctly I would guess that something like this would happen. You must follow instructions exactly and even then things can happen. I use Spb backup and keep my PPC backed up after EVERY successuful addition to the phone. If I screw up, I would restore back to the previous step. I haven't needed to yet and I've changed something on this Kaiser almost every day for 2 months now.
So don't whine to us, be responsible for you own data when you modify your toys like the rest of us or go play somewhere else
Hi folks
I've just upgraded to the new HTC WM6.1 ROM update and, to my horror, found out that I'm unable to type 'ó','á','ð', etc. using the Fn Space combination.
I've tried to apply the 'Tilt keyboard fix' and 'TyTN II keyboard fix' aswell as going through the forums digging for a solution, but to no avail
Does anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks in advance!
in my signature under scandanavian keyboard fix
Thanks for your pointer!
I tried installing both the "Scandinavian keyboard.cab" and "Nordic Keypad Mapping.cab" but all I get is a " " (space) when I do the Fn Space combination
I'm not sure how to install the "XDA_JCEspi2005_Sweden_Input_Kaiser.zip" file. I tried to rename the .zip to .cab but the installation was unsuccessfull
sorry never noticed, but yea must have been a bad download. I will try to see if i can get it again
surely you would get more help posting this in the ROM section of the forum

Did you remember to soft reset after executing fix cab?
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, I just figured as this was a official update from HTC that it would become standard within time
I've tried to soft reset between installing the cabs, but that didn't help
SOLVED!!!
I finally found a solution for this!
I'm not quite sure if all these steps are necesary as I'm not going to be retrying this fix as it finally works after days of pulling hairs. Here's what I did:
1. I installed gullum diamond keys and gullum Dansk Diamond keys. Did a reboot, disabled everything in "XT9 Settings...", did a reboot.
2. I changed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/KEYBD/CWSLayout registry value from '1' to '0'. Rebooted.
3. I downloaded duttythroy Disable xt9 and rebooted.
As a side result this also fixed the following issue HTC WM6.1 ROM : Add Recipient to SMS..
Hope this helps anyone stuck with the same problem
I guess the "disable XT9" is the only part needed in case you are anly misssing accents. I changed the registry manually (two keys), soft reset and it worked

didn't work for me
I have been looking in the forum for a solution for the Tilt keyboard. Everytime I ask, someone usually responds pointing me to the Tilt Keyboard Fix cab, that was posted by Taurus Bulba.
However, installing that fix, results in the keyboard being mapped with the ATT layout, by enabling the CWS layout in the registry. This makes every key work as it should, but it kills the Fn+Space combination.
The Fn-Space key combination, typed after a character, changes it to others, as per what is defined in sym049.txt (or whatever symxxx.txt file you have in the windows directory).
For example, if you type an "a", press Fn+Space, you get an á, then à,â, etc. Same with all other characters. This, as you can imagine, is important for those that type in languages other than English, that require accents. And for those that want to use characters not in the keyboard often (like the Euro sign "€" or the british pound sign, "£", the ç, etc.).
I think the issue is with the CWS layout (CWS being Cingular/ATT). That layout doesn't have the Fn+Space in it. The Hermes keyboard had a blue "á" and "ü" written on the top left corner of the Space bar. The Tilt doesn't have those. In fact, if you install the original ATT Rom (no need for keyboard fix there), the Fn+Space combination doesn't work.
The only way I've seen to get Fn-Space back to life is NOT to use the CWS layout that comes from the ATT Keyboard Fix. Using any non ATT Rom will allow you to get Fn-Space, but at the cost of getting many of the other Fn keys mapped wrong. For example, the ! and the @ are swapped, the ; gives you a %, and so on.
Sounds like there should be a new keyboard layout that is 99% like the one resulting from the keybord fix (CWS layout) but that adds the Fn-Space combination to it.
Any suggestions?

Missing Fn Space - not solved?!!
Unfortunately, the proposed solution didn't work. I think the issue is with CWS layout (CWS being Cingular/ATT). That layout doesn't have the Fn+Space in it. For example, the ! and the @ are swapped, the ; gives you a %, and so on.
Didn't work for me either.
Tried both ways. By manually and with that .cab. Both resulting same problem.
I can use those accented characters, but now I can type only numbers with diamond keyboards. :-o If I change registry back to the original. I can write and everything else works, but those accented in harware keyboard.
Worked for me

my HTC TyTN II thinks it has the German keyboard, not the English one...
Anybody know how to fix this? everywhere i look i have it set to English (US)

u didnt search enough
use kaisertweak or advanced config, and change the kb layout
I may've found another part of my mystery... I was using the stock HTC ROM downloaded from their site set to United States. When the site is set to Europe, the correct one is downloaded.

Final and simple solution
Dear all,
I fiddled around with my old TYTN (Hermes) and none of the solutions found in the net really helped. While it was quite easy to fix the QWERTZ / QWERTY problem on the hardware keyboard (letters Y and Z inverted) the Fn+Space problem was a bit harder to solve. None of the various cab files or other hints really seemed to help.
So here is what I did to finally fix this:
1. copied a sym.0407.txt into the Windows directory using ActiveSync
2. applied the following registry settings:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\toggle]
"Hotkey"="1"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload]
@="e0010407"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1]
@="e0010407"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010407]
"Layout Text"="COMP IME"
"Ime File"="compime.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409]
"Ime File"="compime.dll"
"Layout Text"="COMP IME"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Active"="e0010407"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:00020407
With these settings I have Y and Z assigned correctly and the Fn+Space working as well. I guess this will not only work on the TYTN (Hermes) but also on the TYTN II (Kaiser).
Kind regards,
DAC324
Attached are the two files needed (sym.0407.txt and the registry settings file). If somebody could explain me how to make a CAB for them, I will gladly do that, too.
Hi Guys
Sorry if this has been posted, I did do a search and couldn't find a solution.
Whenever I change the input type in the input settings, it immediately defaults back to compact qwerty when I go back in to look.
Is this a known problem?
Thanks in advance
Nobody have any ideas?
After flashing the new ROM i've the same problem.
Every time i switch the keyboard layout, it automatically returns to compact QWERTY.
Can the layout be set in the registry?
I haven't found any solution yet.
fixing the default imput method
I also had this problem and it was driving me mad! However, searching the forum I came across a recommendation to use a little program called SIPchange. I installed this (it's free!) and it allows you to set any imput method as the default. So far it seems to work.
The only problem I now have is that the Letter Recogniser doesn't show me any suggested words as I enter text, despite this option being switched on in the settings. Any ideas anyone?
Richard
I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't find the answer anywhere. How can I change the auto suggestions from the one that's in the screenshot to the older pop-up version?
Have you looked under start-->settings-->personal-->input? Once here select the input method you wish to use and customize it all the way. This should inlcude adding your own words to the dictionary/pop up suggestions etc.
I don't know the popup you mean but it sounds to me like it belongs to an older keyboard. You need to install that keyboard, if you can find a VGA version.
Failing that you could try another keyboard like Resco or TouchPal to see how you get on. I think the T9 system in TouchPal is great, a whole other level better than the HTC keyboards.
I was wondering how to get the word suggestions to the one in this screenshot.
Ths thread explains it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445959
short version: disable T9 and use a different keyboard...

You can't use that one with HTC's keyboards. That belongs to Microsofts' built-in SIP's. I find HTC's much better and quicker to use. If you've only just changed from the 'old' word suggestions from Microsoft, maybe you need a bit more time to get used to them. Other than that, you'll have to use Microsoft SIP's instead of HTC's.
I'm sure if there was a way to resolve your issue, some wiz-kid here would have already done it
I forgot to mention this, but I am not use HTC keyboards. I am using PocketCM Keyboard v0.20.
I figured it out thanks to Steve in this form post #21: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425405

and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME
And soft reset.
