im in no way trying to say anyone is better than another because obviously cyan has done tremendous things for the community..
Im tired of trying to find a hero that works well... im sorry but either it lags or this crashes, or that crashes..
cyan works and works well and so does enomthers. the plus that is see is that enomther is working constantly on updating it.. i also like the advanced launcher so i can hide things.
can anyone else list advantages and disadvantages of either.???
I used to use Cyanogen's, but it's currently behind the official OTA release (Donut) as far as stable versions (4.0.4, Cupcake) go. One of the reason to root is to get ahead of the curve and not have to wait for T-Mobile to get their updates out. Makes you wonder if the stable Cyanogen Eclair version will come out weeks after the offical OTA Eclair.
I'm not bashing Cyan, I'm sure he's a busy man, just stating the reason I made my choice.
Any good themes for Cyan 4.1.9999 ?
I found a one but it was a little over done and bogged the phone down considerably and just wasn't my "style" anyway.

Cool, Thanks! I forgot to check dream.*doh
I installed plastic 1.7 and this is a sweet theme. MT3G looks better than most ROMS I've used on my G1!
Fast, fairly simple and clean. Didn't notice a performance hit from Cyans included modded stock Rom either (after a couple reboots). Even with advanced app manager and 5 screens with lots of widgets...highly reccomended for anyone running 4.1.9999
Now we just have to wait for them all to be updated for 4.2.1!
Personally I'm a fan of Enoch, especially for the dragable menu button.
yeah, lol thats my fault. Everytime I finally get one of my phones the way I like it, an update gets posted like the same day. I'm leaving mine on 4.1.9999 till I see everything I want all together for 4.2 or 4.21

ENochs 4.1.9999 theme works for Cyanogens 4.2.1. Im using it right now as we speak. You can always try the theme to see if it works. Just make sure you have a working nandroid back up in case it doesn't
Also have a look here for more CM compatible themes:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/downloads/themes
thanks for the link, yup... cyanogens site was first place I looked...
I guess it will all be moot soon as people gear up for 4.2x of Cyanogens mods.
I wish I knew xml better, I would play a bit with this stuff. Done a lot of C++ and assembly, but that was years ago now and I probably forgot everything but hello.c lol
I've tried a bunch of the Dream themes on my MT3G with CM 4.2.2, and I know a bunch of them get weird force closures when I rotate my phone to landscape mode. Not sure if anyone else experienced it, but after trying four different ones (gChrome, Enoch, Orange Hero and something else) and all happening I just gave up on theming. I really wish there were themes specifically for our phone.
try plastic 1.7 --it is really clean and looks good. no crashes yet in about a week so far. I'm on a MyTouch 3G with Cyanogenmod 4.1.9999 --don't have the phone with me right now but the spl is an engineering one, just can't be specific.
Anyhoo, Plastic is good on the MT3G.

I've used all the same themes you have tried and I get no fc's at all on CM 4.2
I only got FCs when I rotate my phone to landscape mode. Otherwise, everything works just fine. I think the error I kept getting had something to do with android.app.core (or something just like that).
OK, I've noticed that the CDMA Hero's can get Live Wallpapers in Sense. Is it possible to make them work on the 'GSM' ones too?
You probably saw that on a phone with a custom rom, because the Hero can't pull off Rosie AND Live WP's running.
cdma heros are running 2.1 with sense + live wallpapers
Sent from my Heroc using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
nprussel has done it again. He's got sense with live wallpapers running. Probably releasing it in rom 5.3. Got this info via twitter.
Guess we have to be patient for a few day's.

Actually nprussel hasn't done anything, zenulator & mssmision are the ones who have gotten live wallpaper's working on the hero CDMA which also works for the GSM with no additional changes.
I have already built a 2.1 sense rom with zenulator & mssmision ammended files and can confirm live wallpapers are working...
Best Regards,
Yes thats right, and Nathan has done some tweaking but given full credit where it was due. It is currently under Donators only testing (but is looking good from comments) and will probably be released as an option to the public in VillainRom 5.3
Edit: for the record the only downsides seem to be you lose full screen weather animations and you can't see thumbnails in the 3D gallery

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I thought I'd at least make an effort to clear the air.
First of all, on topic - here are the facts:
- I did get Live Wallpapers working without the help of anyone. They were working before the guys over at CDMA fixed them. They were very slow though, causing huge slowdowns of Rosie & were barely functional.
- I opted to use someone else's openGL fix, as it proved to be far quicker and more stable than my own. Here's the quote from the VillainROM donator's forum:
"Thanks to MagnusRagnarok, jcase, zifnab & flipzmode over on the CDMA forums, the culprit (ie - reason Live Wallpapers weren't working with Sense UI) has been fixed and is within this file. "
See... there's no mention of it being my own work.
Slightly off topic now, but it needs saying.
Stickman,
I am getting sick to death of reading your snot-nosed comments about me. I have worked hard - harder than most to make the best 2.1 Sense UI ROM possible for the Hero; and I've done it persistently for the past three months.
I've put in an easy 20+ hours PER WEEK into developing since I began. If you've followed my progress, you'll know that I am always on the ball with fixes, and I always try to credit people where credit is due. The fact that I missed you from my credits when I ported your theme over to 2.1 was unfortunate, but hardly an absolute 'end of the world' disaster.
My advice to you would be:
Get over yourself...relax and drop the grudge you have against me. It's only making you look stupid; and I can tell that's something that you are not.
Now - can we forget about it and move on?
If you're the type that needs to get the last word in, then get the last word in. I really don't care. Just say what you need to say and then move on.
Thanks.
More on topic now - I'm currently working on trying to get the LW to work in conjunction with the HTC Weather animations.

nprusell, thats great news I´m using your rom as my everyday rom and it´s great .. keep up the god work. Sad to see go over to the Desire team
I didn't actually state anywhere that you have not given credits to whom ever concerned, I am just saying that the work originated from zenulator and mssmision...
I would just like to point out the people you have mentioned have adapted their fixes and changes against mssmision's work, although not mentioned.
I do appreciate the fact that we are all joining together to further increase functionality and stability in any of the 2.1 builds developed...
No point jumping in and accusing me of the like, and c'mon that comment was hardly snotty, I used to own a HTC Kaiser and zenulator and mssmision were a big part of the vogue community who brought the vogue/kaiser to life again...
I really don't have any issue's with you at all, I apologise if it seems that way...
#edit: Also the unnecessary comments you made really isn't going to help clear anything if that is your intention, I understand you have put it in a lot of work as have most developers here at xda which is applauded and appreciated by your followers. My comment above still stands, I really don't have any issues with you at all.
I fully agree Stickman.

yeah. Me too. Strange world where nprussel gets a new phone and I feel compelled to do the same.... You'd think that the common sense on sites as these or the quality of support provided by manufacturers would influence my choice of phone...
But no, it is a man like nprussel that makes me consider buying the legend.....
That is a compliment! But strange it is.....
So, I shorted my vogue's internal antenna while trying an experiment to create an external antenna (I know, VERY dumb), and now it refuses to pick up any type of signal (on WinMo or Android). I am on a backup Titan/Mogul for now to hold me off for the Droid X. But enough about me. I would just like to take this opportunity to extend a HUGE thanks to all the amazing devs here in the Vogue-Android scene. DZO, myn, mssmison, incubus26jc, kallt_kaffe, the fellow who fixed eclair camera (even though my vogue broke literally within HOURS of the camera being fixed!), jnadke, and any others I have missed. I truly appreciate the hard work that you guys put into making Android essentially native for such an aged device. Everyone would always ask "What phone is that?!" because of how awesome the vogue really is with flawless Android running on it. You guys are great. I am having android withdrawals with my titan running winmo 6.5, unfortunately. I keep expecting things to work like android (like hitting the end key to turn off the screen) and I can't believe how inefficient winmo's ui really is compared to android. So, with that said, once again I want to thank you awesome devs and I loved creating some themes here and there for people to enjoy your awesome builds. I will visit frequently just because I love how exciting the progress of Android on Vogue is. THANK YOU!
P.S. If anyone can provide me with the files necessary to get myn's warm donut or dzo's odex'd donut running on my sd card on my titan/mogul that would be GREAT. As of yet, I've only got a 1.5 Ion build to run and I hated it and it also locked up on me. Anyways, thanks guys and keep up the amazing work.
Bump. I just want to make sure the awesome devs see this because their work really does mean a lot to me!

Thank you. I agree it is sad, it's actually bittersweet...on one hand I get the droid x...on the other I lose arguably the best online community for a phone that any user could really have. Not to be all emotional or anything
Exactly. The hero community is great but I really miss being apart of this community.

I love it. Rooted with a custom Rom and Oc to 710, this thing is blazing fast! They got froyo working on the hero but gps and camera don't work till they release a .32 kernel. I haven't tried it yet but everyone keeps talking about how fast it is. How are you?

Drewden,
I am sorry to hear your vogue has died. You have been a huge contributor to the vogue-android scene.
You really will be missed.
Regarding your mogul I have a custom but older warm donut build that works on the Diamond. This will hopefully work on your mogul.
You can download it here.
If that doesn't work, try taking a newer sqsh build from the warm donut thread and use the latest and greatest rootfs/zImage etc made for the Mogul and give it a shot.

Since I first knew that Captivates were hackable, I always wondered if there was any way to put WP7 on my phone. It isn't because I would have rather had a WP7, but it is simply because I want the option to. I find it hard to believe that none of you haven't imagine WP7 on your captivates. Recently trax26 made a theme of WP7 that looks simply amazing, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910918) but, his barely sufficient tranlation makes it even harder for a small time programmer like myself to install it. The screenshots look amazing, but there is no way I can do that.
My question is: Does anybody else know of a simpler WP7 theme to install? A CWM theme would be ideal, but some minor hacking would be okay with me.
And if not, I would just like to put that out there as a suggestion for anybody whose up to it. I'm sure there are tons of people (including myself) who would beta it as much as possible, just so as long the feel is right.
Thanks in advance, Richard.
Look at metro ui in the market. It is a decent wp7 launcher. Some bugs but overall much better then trying the theme.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.

Thanks a bunch and just wan to let you know you have a typo in your signature
EDIT: Although that is a good emulator, take a look at the link that i posted. That's what im looking for, full blow WP7 with the right symbols and everything (more or less). But thanks anyways.
Yea, it would be nice to have WP7 running on Cappy. After watching HD2 running WP7 on YouTube makes me eager to have it. But idk how. Lol.

Yeah I know about my sig .
As for getting real wp7 it just wont happen. These themes and that II are probably the closest we will get. I figure the metro II is much easier than trying to do the process of the theme.

I'm not saying I want WP7 as my only operating system, because Android is far superior in almost everything, but I simply want it to be able to have the choice of having WP7. I would like to have the speed and hackability of Android, but have the simplicity of WP7. I have to say the tiles are probably the only thing that will keep WP7 going, because honestly, I think they are pretty cool. Metro is a decent simulator that gets the jist, of WP7 but it's actually too simple. The thing about WP7 is that it has cool simplicity by using colored and animated tiles.
And as for the quote "It will be a long time before WP7 comes to android" every rom has to start somewhere.
You'd need someone who could reverse engineer WP7 - then figure out how to use existing drivers or write new ones before WP7 could be installed on our Android phones.
There is no "Open Source" for Windows... ever.
Drivers would probably have to all be re-written or some type of hack so WP7 could work with existing drivers.
So... unless you know someone with a great amount of time - possibly can hack M$ and get the source code we probably won't be see this type of port soon.
well i use LG optimus 7 before i change to captivate just use it 1 month
then sell. What can i said... it actually very nice and really fast phone
and its wp7 is really pretty but it 2 simple and lack of app support for now.
cause its still new maybe another 1 or 2 years i will get it again.
Maybe i'm just not understanding, but im not asking for the windows sole operating system, im just asking for a themed windows 7 rom, or even better, a combination of the home screen on WP7 and the rest of it being android. Maybe thats too much to ask, but it doesnt seem like it.

Maybe I didn't read your source post fully, but isn't that theme built for galaxy s phones, and only require launcherpro?
Granted I only glanced the post, but it didn't look too complex. If you can flash a ROM, that theme shouldn't be a big deal.

Android Phone 7 Theme
Google is your friend!
With all those widgets I wouldn't expect the battery to last half a day.
I read the entire post, and you need launcherpro plus to resize the widgets, which I dont have, and have no money to buy. Also, it's not a theme that you can flash, you need to do some extracting and coding via terminal. It may not be possible to make a complete WP7 theme that's flashable with Clockwork recovery, but I've seen many a theme that looks completely original. I don't know much about ROM writing (if i did i would have the WP7 theme on my phone and this post would be gone), but it seems like with all the amazing devoted themers on XDA, someone besides the before mentioned person, could create a wonderful flashable theme that does not require any money/hacking.

Ok honestly, I don't want to try and screw with my phone, because I'm happy the way it is right now. I would really like to get a WP7 theme, but I think I'm going to wait until someone makes a SIMPLE theme, that you can flash and be done with HINT HINT HINT HINT.

LoL yea i agree.. we just want wat we cant have.. but if we'd be stuck with it we'd be trying to get rid of it
Ive had a captivate since july and i love the phone even with numerous software problems right out of the box. I recently picked up unlocked HTC Surround and its awesome. That one comes with snapdragon processor 1 gig, same one in the HTC Evo 4g, and 512 mb ram and using the WP7 Os it is very fast right out of the box. It totally lacks customization unlike android os and no where the amount of apps and games android has, but the ones it does have are way better versions then the android ones, for example facebook and craiglist. And the xbox live game THE HARVEST is amazing. I would encourage anyone to try one out, very well done OS compared to the previous windows mobile os. I dont think ill sell my captivate because i love having option to choose from either android or Windows Phone 7. I just hope it catches on so it will soon have as many apps and games as Android.
Windows Phone 7 is a polished OS, but it won't even come close to Android or iOS for a VERY long time. And like I said early, It's not like I want WP7 instead of Android, but It's the reason that i CAN'T have WP7 that makes me want it. If anyone has any WP7 friends, give them the idea!
Have you looked into "Launcher7" ? Search it on the market.
If you just want a home theme that looks like WP7 this seems to be the easiest one going.
I think asking someone to port the whole WP7 OS over to a Cappy is probably not going to happen though.
