So, I shorted my vogue's internal antenna while trying an experiment to create an external antenna (I know, VERY dumb), and now it refuses to pick up any type of signal (on WinMo or Android). I am on a backup Titan/Mogul for now to hold me off for the Droid X. But enough about me. I would just like to take this opportunity to extend a HUGE thanks to all the amazing devs here in the Vogue-Android scene. DZO, myn, mssmison, incubus26jc, kallt_kaffe, the fellow who fixed eclair camera (even though my vogue broke literally within HOURS of the camera being fixed!), jnadke, and any others I have missed. I truly appreciate the hard work that you guys put into making Android essentially native for such an aged device. Everyone would always ask "What phone is that?!" because of how awesome the vogue really is with flawless Android running on it. You guys are great. I am having android withdrawals with my titan running winmo 6.5, unfortunately. I keep expecting things to work like android (like hitting the end key to turn off the screen) and I can't believe how inefficient winmo's ui really is compared to android. So, with that said, once again I want to thank you awesome devs and I loved creating some themes here and there for people to enjoy your awesome builds. I will visit frequently just because I love how exciting the progress of Android on Vogue is. THANK YOU!
P.S. If anyone can provide me with the files necessary to get myn's warm donut or dzo's odex'd donut running on my sd card on my titan/mogul that would be GREAT. As of yet, I've only got a 1.5 Ion build to run and I hated it and it also locked up on me. Anyways, thanks guys and keep up the amazing work.
Bump. I just want to make sure the awesome devs see this because their work really does mean a lot to me!

Thank you. I agree it is sad, it's actually bittersweet...on one hand I get the droid x...on the other I lose arguably the best online community for a phone that any user could really have. Not to be all emotional or anything
Exactly. The hero community is great but I really miss being apart of this community.

good luck I just myself on tuesday but I missed the vogue android forums because the touch pro2 android forums aren't really showing any major movement but I can't complain I got the phone for free and long time no cp0020 hows the hero
I love it. Rooted with a custom Rom and Oc to 710, this thing is blazing fast! They got froyo working on the hero but gps and camera don't work till they release a .32 kernel. I haven't tried it yet but everyone keeps talking about how fast it is. How are you?

Drewden,
I am sorry to hear your vogue has died. You have been a huge contributor to the vogue-android scene.
You really will be missed.
Regarding your mogul I have a custom but older warm donut build that works on the Diamond. This will hopefully work on your mogul.
You can download it here.
If that doesn't work, try taking a newer sqsh build from the warm donut thread and use the latest and greatest rootfs/zImage etc made for the Mogul and give it a shot.

the one thing i can say about our scene that i love is that even though i am not a dev. i still feel like a contributing member
I think I will be moving on from the vogue to the X myself too... I shall be sticking around however being that my lady still has the vogue...

Hey guys,
I'm new to rooting and xda, I'm thinking about getting a Hero rom on my g1 but I have read mixed reviews about lag etc..
My question to you is, are you running a Hero Rom? How does it perform? Which Rom would you recommend?
Thanks, I love you guys.

hero roms when compared to cupcake roms do tend to lag at time. esp when the phone has been runign for hours or days without restart.
in my opinion i think drizzy 2.2r2 is the best hero rom for speed and is pretty stable. i am waiting for drizzy to finish his 5 or 6 rom project and he told me that dopod will be the best hero rom to date.
some hero roms tend to have missing sms...esp when receiving.. i recommend again drizzy 2.2r2 for speed but jacxhero 1.4 or 1.2 is the best as far as stability goes in my opinion. stability meaning lack of bugs. esp in the market and sms issues. but jac hero roms tend to run slower than drizzy.
I'm currently running JacxHeroskiv 1.4 (gotta love the name ) and I find it's fairly useable if you use a 64mb linux-swap partition on a Class 6 card. I only populate one screen, this is just a prefrence, if you use more than one the homescreen is still useable, but sometimes you will swipe and it wont change screen for a few seconds. Battery life is poor. It must be about 3/4 of what I get on Cyanogen Mod, but I can live with that. One of the problems with Hero ROMs is that they are made for a phone without a keyboard. So there are lots of apps that don't rotate and there are issues with the virtual keyboard and hardware keyboard which are ver annoying. If you can live without bluetooth and LEDs (they are working on LEDs) and a slightly slower phone it's worth a try. Just make a nandroid backup before hand.
My advise for the moment is wait from Drizzy Drake's "Dopod" ROM. It's based off and upcoming update for the Hero itself, to make the phone more smooth and add a couple of extra features. We don't really know when it's going to be out but I'm guessing it will be here in a couple of weeks.

According to his latest Tweet it will be released today, he is out running around paying bills, you know the normal stuff people do that have life's, unlike most of us
It's a sad day in my life when I wake up and the first thing I do is check xda for ROM updates! It's Saturday for gods's sake!! I need to get out!
Anyway
I'm running Jac's Hero 1.4 and love it! I'm not one that cares for colors (theme's)
I get NO lag or htc or loading in 4 days since switching to 96mb Linux-swap and swappiness at 60. Love them settings!
SUggest you get it if you want bling and don't care about bluetooth not working
I got back and fourth between Hero and Cyan builds. Check my signature for build types.
My opinion on Hero is this...
It's good to try out and play around with but I wouldn't use it as a primary rom for your phone. In other words... it's good to flash if your bored and with time to kill. I've never had it on my phone for more then a day or two. If you want fast and stable then go for the 4.0.1 Stable Cyanogen Rom (or the updated version depending on when you reference this and since he's updating all the time for improvements) and you won't regret it. Since your considering Hero, I'm assuming that you've already partitioned your sdcard with the ext format. This is a requirement for Hero roms but it optional but recommended for Cyanogen roms (for apps to sd purposes). If you want to bounce back and forth between roms you can use the Switchrom Script with the Cyanogen 1.4 Recovery and it's painless to do. Even without a computer. Give it a shot... the worse that can happen assuming you get past the Danger SPL part is that you won't like one and can switch back.

Ahhh i know the feeling of waking up in the morning with the hope of a brand spanking new rom out there... i do it practically everyday... haha
as for my hero preferences, I'm running JACxHeroski 1.4 as well, only with my swap at 32 and it's running perfectly. been running it for a while and only gotten one or two loading screens.
ALSO, if you check out Teh Dust's Rosie color changer, you can change the entire system colors. it's pretty awesome. i've got a purple rosie and purple framework and everything.
That about says it above. Hero has some cool features I like like flash 9 and some other cool UI stuff. Like it was suggested above and on jac's post use as few screens as possible and I stay away from the weather widget, or I choose one and it usually does okay. For me after the newness wore off I wanted my speed back! Anywho...Go for it!
It's not worth it, not made for g1 no matter what they do to it. Lags no matter what you do. Get Cyanogen's or jacxrom's build.

that's a little negative... sure, it has lag occasionally, if you do it correctly. but then again, cyan's isn't perfect either. don't get me wrong. cyanogen is my go-to cupcake rom. but it still has it's bugs.

I agree...it even lags on the actual hero itself. With that being said it's fun to show off and experience first hand without actually buying a hero. It's cool, Just not stupid fast or super stable as of yet.
And that's what I need...stupid fast! lol
Spent 10 hours today!
I am not new to this stuff...been modding iPhones since the first one came out and so forth. I spent 10 hours today working with Hero...JackHero..I think it was. I loved it! It took some work to make it work however...alot of work. The end result was i twas not fast enough for me. I thought i could comprimise becasue I had seen the demos and such...but I am more "Go " than "Show" Unfortuatly I could not get it as fast as I liked. other than that it is AWESOME!

I think the hero rom is the best one out there. The lag is not really a problem for me(using 92MB swap). However, the they are working on the update that will improve the speed. Nothing beats the Hero's UI!!
I just rooted my phone today after finally getting an 8gb class 6 so I only have one days experience with the hero Rom but so far I like it, the lag is there but I can deal with it for now...my browser is pretty fast and I get all things incoming so I'm happy as long as that works..eventually I'll start to mess with the partions to get it to run a little faster...I've been nodding psp's for years now so I know I could get the hang of this...

Not negative truthful, want him to know what he's getting into before he does it. Every build has bugs that's just the nature of the beast. Patience has nothing to do with it for me personally, I use my phone for a phone above all and I need something reliable.
OK, I've noticed that the CDMA Hero's can get Live Wallpapers in Sense. Is it possible to make them work on the 'GSM' ones too?
You probably saw that on a phone with a custom rom, because the Hero can't pull off Rosie AND Live WP's running.
cdma heros are running 2.1 with sense + live wallpapers

nprussel has done it again. He's got sense with live wallpapers running. Probably releasing it in rom 5.3. Got this info via twitter.
Guess we have to be patient for a few day's.

Actually nprussel hasn't done anything, zenulator & mssmision are the ones who have gotten live wallpaper's working on the hero CDMA which also works for the GSM with no additional changes.
I have already built a 2.1 sense rom with zenulator & mssmision ammended files and can confirm live wallpapers are working...
Best Regards,
Yes thats right, and Nathan has done some tweaking but given full credit where it was due. It is currently under Donators only testing (but is looking good from comments) and will probably be released as an option to the public in VillainRom 5.3
Edit: for the record the only downsides seem to be you lose full screen weather animations and you can't see thumbnails in the 3D gallery

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I thought I'd at least make an effort to clear the air.
First of all, on topic - here are the facts:
- I did get Live Wallpapers working without the help of anyone. They were working before the guys over at CDMA fixed them. They were very slow though, causing huge slowdowns of Rosie & were barely functional.
- I opted to use someone else's openGL fix, as it proved to be far quicker and more stable than my own. Here's the quote from the VillainROM donator's forum:
"Thanks to MagnusRagnarok, jcase, zifnab & flipzmode over on the CDMA forums, the culprit (ie - reason Live Wallpapers weren't working with Sense UI) has been fixed and is within this file. "
See... there's no mention of it being my own work.
Slightly off topic now, but it needs saying.
Stickman,
I am getting sick to death of reading your snot-nosed comments about me. I have worked hard - harder than most to make the best 2.1 Sense UI ROM possible for the Hero; and I've done it persistently for the past three months.
I've put in an easy 20+ hours PER WEEK into developing since I began. If you've followed my progress, you'll know that I am always on the ball with fixes, and I always try to credit people where credit is due. The fact that I missed you from my credits when I ported your theme over to 2.1 was unfortunate, but hardly an absolute 'end of the world' disaster.
My advice to you would be:
Get over yourself...relax and drop the grudge you have against me. It's only making you look stupid; and I can tell that's something that you are not.
Now - can we forget about it and move on?
If you're the type that needs to get the last word in, then get the last word in. I really don't care. Just say what you need to say and then move on.
Thanks.
More on topic now - I'm currently working on trying to get the LW to work in conjunction with the HTC Weather animations.

nprusell, thats great news I´m using your rom as my everyday rom and it´s great .. keep up the god work. Sad to see go over to the Desire team
I didn't actually state anywhere that you have not given credits to whom ever concerned, I am just saying that the work originated from zenulator and mssmision...
I would just like to point out the people you have mentioned have adapted their fixes and changes against mssmision's work, although not mentioned.
I do appreciate the fact that we are all joining together to further increase functionality and stability in any of the 2.1 builds developed...
No point jumping in and accusing me of the like, and c'mon that comment was hardly snotty, I used to own a HTC Kaiser and zenulator and mssmision were a big part of the vogue community who brought the vogue/kaiser to life again...
I really don't have any issue's with you at all, I apologise if it seems that way...
#edit: Also the unnecessary comments you made really isn't going to help clear anything if that is your intention, I understand you have put it in a lot of work as have most developers here at xda which is applauded and appreciated by your followers. My comment above still stands, I really don't have any issues with you at all.
I fully agree Stickman.

Where is your rom?
Have you read anything on this forum?
And fyi, you can dl launchers and home screens to change looks without a rom right from app store. Search = friend

Also, I doubt much ROM development will happen (except for a few champions of the people, like DG) until the Samsung official Android 2.2 comes out, and more importantly, the source code for that 2.2 version is released.
But to be honest, with a piece of hardware this capable, even the 2.1 ROMs are pretty sweet. That and other projects are currently ongoing. Take for example the Vodoo project, which basically has entirely scrapped the default filesystem, and gone with EXT2. And will soon be coming with other tweaks and options for the awesome SAMOLED screen in our phones. Those aren't exactly simple bits of code being whipped up.
Yes, I come from the WinMo side of XDA as well, but around here, it's quality not quantity that counts.
Yikes.

Everyone is so mean to the OP. He cant help it he is sofa king we tar did.
It's actually understandable why the OP is asking. I too spent a lot of time with WinMo and was used to having 10+ ROMs available. But I quickly realized that WinMo NEEDed modified ROMs just to give it functionality and performance. When I got my HTC Touch HD I thought I had the pinnacle of mobile phone technology, but yet I was still always trying new ROMS because I wasn't satisfied with the performance and functionality.
This Captivate is my first Android phone and from what I can tell we don't actually NEED a ROM to make the phone awesome.
WinMo needed ROMs to be a good experience, hence there was a lot of people focused on that aspect of development.
Android, and especially our awesome phone, doesn't need a new ROM to be a good experience so most of the genius developers are able to focus on other projects like various applications rather than just simply trying to get our phones to function.
WinMo required lots of hacking and ROMs to get the same functionality that our phone has by simply installing a new widget or app.
So to the OP, if you ever check back, you don't see a ton of ROMs because frankly they're not required. Welcome to Android! It's a much smoother and satisfying experience than your previous WinMo experience. I can say that because I was just like you just a couple months ago.

Yeah, I don't doubt that there WILL be more ROMs. Especially with the scrabble to get Froyo before Samsung releases it. This is a new phone after all. I just know that with my old WinMo phones the first thing I would do with them is feel unsatisfied and attempt to install some hacked ROM to feel a little less satisfied.
With this phone I'm just happy right out of the box. Of course I don't use the GPS so maybe if I did I'd grumble a bit. But otherwise I think this phone is just incredible.

newer google apps is the biggest thing added since, they have been decently stable as of late too. TBH i havent even really been doing much on my vogue lately either.
i do have a theme for hero you and myn would be proud of though
Speeding up Android
If you free up some memory your vogue will be faster. I suggest uninstalling all the apps you don't use / can do without. You can also try the Fat Free build of android. I hear that it is faster.

it is mostly since it uses all the principles covered here its odex'd it has the fat cleaved from it, and via rogue tools you can overclock it
Yeah, I tried the Fat-Free build and its super fast..! DZO Fresh Froyo is already amazing, and Fat-Free froyo makes it even faster. The life that is put into this phone is unbelievable, and the support too! I remember when I used to use my vogue with wm-6.1 !

Hi,
I was wondering if HTC Vogue/Touch users can share some tips to make Vogue faster and snappier.

ummm if you want a snappy android phone get rid of the vogue. not trolling here but your dealing with a 4 year old outdated phone. buy a real up to date android device. props to the devs here but im shocked people still own this device. even xda put it in legacy mode.

im not dissing the vogue as i owned a few of them but yeah if you get the hero you will notice a huge speed increase. even more so with a evo or epic. i know people want to keep their cheap legacy plans but sooner or later you will have no choice but to upgrade and pay more. 4g will be standard someday.

i wish i could go to the evo but sadly i havent found an evo cheap enough yet
My phone is pretty snappy and stable considering it's a bit long in the tooth. I recommend the latest .32 kernel, Scooter's CM rls4c, and a mild overclock to 490 mhz. I don't keep a bunch of crapware apps and widgets on my phone and I recently trimmed down to three desktop screens.
It is my sincere hope that my carrier offers me a decent plan when I do bite the bullet and upgrade to a new android device. It's going to cost me an additional $20-30/mo to get a plan comparable to what I currently have and I really wanted a decent device with a hardware keyboard. Either the Epic or the EVO Shift will be in my pocket next...

yea keyboards are nice but htc phones with keyboards always suffer from poor design flaws, like the touch pro and the high failure rate of that (i even had problems with mine before i sold it), the G2 and it basicly falling open when turned upside down, i love htc to death but i dont trust anything they have with a keyboard at all

The Cyanogen mod has been ported
but no, not that many changes.
Here are the kernels for 2.6.32:
http://androidhtc.git.sourceforge.n...44fac6b0542c9e4d62be3ebd5a3fb1fc4830b;hb=HEAD
And i would love it if you made another release
I have an HTC Hero and one of my many questions is do you think Sprint and HTC will make a Hero 2 ... maybe with a 3.5" or lil bigger (not a monster sized phone) with either a good 1ghz processor or even a dual core and maybe keep the "track Ball" but lose all the other buttons make them all capacitive touch ..... thoughts or opinions ?
I do believe that the Hero has been very successful for both HTC and Sprint.
Ok back to me and My Hero I am not a developer and I am new to the rom switching game. I love the crisp look of the factory Sense UI, but I am one of those types that sees things differently. I look at things and say to myself how could we improve on this or how can we make it faster and keep it looking good. I found this website, and pretty much changed my Hero into a Super Hero so to say.
I also would like to say thanks to all of the great developers on the CDMA Hero side, so far I have tried almost every variety of rom and different mod on my Hero (have screenshots once I get out of the probation period I will post them)
So far I figured out the easiest way for me to root my hero is with one of two I found floating around these forums, Hero Root by regaw leinad or super1click v1.7 ..... I also figured out that firerat's mod is easier the data2ext if your nat really familiar with adb. I also have found three more programs to help a lot, droid explorer, android commander and qtadb.
My question to all Hero owners what do you think is the best all around ROM, Gapps, and other mods as of May 8th 2011? (I am just looking for opinions I read almost every thread on this site and I would just like to see it all together call me lazy)
All this and I have not "bricked" my Hero .... must be one tough s.o.b.
To answer your first question, I just don't see a revised Hero in the works. It has a been a great phone for many users and Sprint alike I'm sure, but the Hero is not likely to reappear simply because it doesn't really conform to what HTC is doing with most of their phones now (4-4.3 inches, capacitive buttons, similar super thin form factor). I definitely don't think they would put a trackball in, because even if there were a trackpad on a new device it's almost guaranteed to be optical. If there were to be a refresh, I definitely think we would have heard something by now considering the lifespan of the Hero.
As for roms, I'd definitely suggest playing around with AOSP or CM7 versions of Gingerbread. You may find that you prefer greater customizations than you get with Sense. However, if you really really dig Sense and would much rather have it, there's a great group of guys developing Sense 2.1 for Gingerbread on the Hero. It's in Alpha right now, but even considering that, it's a fantastic piece of work. As far as Gapps go, I would just stick to the latest ones provided at the Cyanogenmod wiki. I don't really apply other mods as I personally don't think I need any, but YMMV.
i for one love the design its the perfect size for me and as far as the processor goes once i overclocked it a little bit its plenty fast enough for me because i dont really install a ton of apps and as far as gaming goes i have a ps3 for that lol so it really is the perfect phone for me all the new ones are just to big i think.
and ive had the hero sense september and i had a mt3g before that.
OMGB
I have been running OMGB for the past 8 hrs I am using wifi only browsed the web for a while, cut grass listened to some MP3's and browsed the web some more and more MP3's I listened to MP3's for a couple hours (with the MIUI player found in the forums) and it shows pretty good battery life
I would also like to add that I am using the
opengles tweak to show supported version 1.1 (not 100% sure why I did it ... maybe just to say I did it successfully)
s0be's kernel AP5, unCoRrUpTeD data2ext V2.2, and the MIUI music player and camera apks
I like the bare minimalist look and feel this rom has, but I still dont have a true favorite .... variety is such a sweet thing and all these choices .... and most of the people I know dont even know what an HTC Hero is .... if its not a iLemon or if it doesnt say DROID (like in the commercials) they just dont "get it"
ok found the first flaw ..... lol
my market says verizon where i would normaly see Sprint and had my first FC
