Shutdown on LAN? - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

Hey all,
Using my Hero to send Wake on LAN packets to my home PC either manually or via Locale when I get near my house, it all works great.
My question is are there any apps that can shut a PC down remotely too?
Thanks
Russ

how are you doing this please mate? let me know if you get anything re: shutting down too. thanks,
yans.

WOL is a bios function, shutdown is a OS function. Your only bet is along the lines of
Code:
ssh [email protected] shutdown -h now

I know there are commands than can be sent to a windows PC but its sending it from my Hero that's the issue
Yans - There are wake on lan apps for the Hero on the market, including a plugin for Locale, then you just need to do some googling for information on setting your PC up to accept the "magic packets"

i use vnc to shutdown windows

You can always use BsoDroid, if your pc is under vista/w7.

How to video conferance to pc with messenger?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I've read lots of threads but cannot see anything...
Is there some way of doing video over IP from the phone (wifi / 3G) to a PC?
Take it easy before you flame me, its my first post
research microsoft portrait
Thanks for that, but having tried it the forward facing camera doesn't work and the performance is pants even over a g wifi link. Am I missing something?
Not sure what you're really trying to do, but if you want to use your phone as a web cam then check out webcameraplus. Still have to connect with data cable to pc because it connects through active sync/device manager.
are you asking if you can look through your phone's camera on your PC?
eg: Your phone is connect to an online service that enables and uses your phone's camera, then you would connect to that service from your pc and see through the phone's camera.....is that what you're trying to accomplish?
It should be able to be done, I had ran across a program not too long ago that allows you to control and see whats going on your mobile, it is able to connect through active sync/Device maneger and over the internet (wifi/3G) so you should be able turn on the camera from your pc and see through the camera from your pc.....I din't remember the name of it, but its out there.

internet sharing w/bluetooth?

hi:
i have tilt and nokia n800.
both devices see each other but will not pair--no matter how i try.
if someone knows how, i would appreciate the help..
i want to use phone > internet AND n800 > internet at the same time..
is this even possible? or am i wasting my time?
do i disable the phone if i get internet sharing > bluetooth to even work?
i like wmwifirouter, but it disables the phone..
thanx
There's an ICS Cab floating around, you need it. Otherwise you can't set it up to do Bluetooth PAN. AT&T moved/disabled ICS.
Once that's installed and you run it, select BT, hit Connect, then connect to the "Dial Up Service" from your phone and it's done.
I won't ask why you're wanting to connect another phone to your Tilt, that's arbitrary I suppose.

No. When ICS is on, the phone itself doesn't have access to the net anymore, only the bluetooth device will have it.
Does the N800 support bluetooth PAN at all? Apparently from a quick search it doesn't at least from stock, needs some add-on/hacking or whatever.

no, i can connect to internet from phone when ics is on..
the forums for the n800 sez that it does support bt pan..
one of the probs is that 800 keeps trying to assign security key and there is no way to disable it..
even when i set phone to match, they always refuse authorization..no matter what i have done so far.
i appreciate the reply tho
edit :: i think youre right.. 800 does Not support bt pan..but i installed the maemo-pan hack for it
i really wanna use both devices at the same time..

If it's just launched yes, but not anymore once it's actively connected. No way around that as far as I know.

[APP] Android Notifier

Just found this. Works great. Install this on your phone, http://code.google.com/p/android-notifier/downloads/detail?name=AndroidNotifier-0.2.4.apk&can=2&q= and this on your PC (Windows/Linux) http://code.google.com/p/android-notifier-desktop/ or this for Mac http://code.google.com/p/android-notifier/downloads/detail?name=MacDroidNotifier-0.2.6.dmg&can=2&q=
For users who need a guide in setting up the application may visit the following web pages:-

Should also note that to use the 64 bit version of the windows software you must be running 64 bit java.
Now this is just awesome.
However it needs a fair bit of setting up in Windows as the balloon notifications are ugly.
Maybe I'll try Growl for windows!
I have had this for about 2 weeks now. The latest update is becoming annoying because it gives me a battery notification every 5 minutes. Maybe its the rom im using.
I cant seem to get this working. I would assume that since my desktop is connected to the network via Wired Connection, and my phone via wifi, but my pc wont see any of the services.
[edit] turns out i had to set it to sent to my custom IP and it works
I just saw this and downloaded it... It's perfect for me!
It worked perfectly first time, no configuration needed... just start the app and start the .exe on my PC and it works great.
One question I do have though is, what is Growl and how do I get it?
ya, i set up custom ip, which i assume would be the ip address of my desktop? and no go for some reason. too bad, i could actually use this. any suggestions would help but if not, Ill try and email the dev..vista with a wired connection to my router, if that makes a difference

Try double checking your IP address?
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center (If you're on Windows)
1. Click on "Local Area Connection" (If you're on Wired Connection)
2. Click on "Details..."
3. Look for your IP address at "IPv4 Address"
However, if the IP address of your desktop is not static. I’m afraid it will vary whenever you reboot your router/modem.
Alternatively, you may set the Target IP address to “Global broadcast address” on your phone.

Are you on 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System (OS)?
Did you download the 32-bit or 64-bit client for Android Notifier Desktop onto your desktop?
If you're on 64-bit OS and downloaded the 64-bit client for Android Notifier Desktop, you also need 64-bit Java.
Additionally, is the Target IP address set to “Global broadcast address” or "Custom IP or host" on your phone?
If it is on "Custom IP or host" you need to manually add the IP address of your desktop to it.

Android-notifier and DHCP networks
Does anyone have any clever ideas on how to get the following to work:
DynDNS hostname used on home network.
Router set to forward packets on the proper port.
I'd like it if I could forward to the broadcast address rather than a fixed IP. I.E., it doesn't matter WHICH computer receives the broadcast after it gets to my home network, just that SOMETHING does.
(I can't guarantee which computer I'll be using)
Ideally, I'd also like to be able to use this on my laptop, regardless of where I am: home or elsewhere, tethered or not.
make sense?
I can't keep a constant wireless connection on my nexus one but it works as long as the wireless doesn't hang which never happens...
so I tried to get Bluetooth working, I fainally got able to pair with my PC (Windows 7 64bit.) And it says paired but not connected on the phone. I try to send the test notification from the phone, but never got anything on the PC.
Can this work over the internet?

I don't think the browser is at fault. It must be something to do with the tethered network... Try switching to some other network!
Else consider upgrading to Windows 7...Put an end to all problems at one go!

Your welcome.
And for me to know the exact cause I'd need all the parameters.
Well we can't upgragde to 7 cus its a work computer and we have no admin rites. I'm not sure about the paramaters ill try and reproduce the problem and take a pic of the screen and post it. It appears to only get the blue screen when connected to my wireles tether. It was working fine at first but then the blue screen started happening. Either rite after I connect or a few minutes after. I have a tmobile g2 rooted and running cyanogen rc3. I'm using the wireless tether for root users app. Come to think of it I haveent tried the native tethering app that comes on the phones rom. When we connected the computer to a friends network with comcast internet it worked fine.

not always can you just go to safe mode, log into administrator and change your account, sometimes the administrator account is passworded itself or disabled, leaving you no way to make your account administrator unless you can *crack* the password or find another way around it
where i work we have a bootable program that just disables passwords if the user forgets it, or if they can't get administrator rights.
You can download a password removal tool online. I use it a lot at work when I dont feel like calling the customer for the password. Its faster and you dont have to talk to pissed off customers over the phone.

yeah we use [email protected] it's a really neat program and it works on xp, vista, and 7 it's a good tool. but like i said simply going to safe mode to gain administrative rights doesn't always work.

[Q] Get Gear to access to WLAN?

Hey, is there any way to get the galaxy gear to connect to my WLAN at home?
I am using null rom and tethering to get internet to work on my gear now, but i got this tv controller app that needs to connect to my wlan in order to work. Soooo, is it even possible in any way to get my gear to recognize a wifi other than the one my SGS3 creates? I see so many benefits to this because I want to control everything that's electric at home from my gear.
I have read everywhere and i can't find any solution for this.. The only thing i found was someone with about the same connection problem i think, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537003 . Where fOmey says something about using tasker & autoremote in order to get it to work, can any kind soul help me decipher these hieroglyphics so that I may get an answer?
I'm a noob at this as i got null yesterday.. Really good stuff though!! :good:
Thanks in advance
/P
well the answer in simple terms is to install Tasker on your phone and AutoRemote on your Gear.
so after you read from Tasker dev site on using it properly the long and short is that autoremote can send commands to your phone and then Tasker on phone will execute said command. your Gear has no wifi so this setup pushes command to phone that has wifi and phone sends command via network.
not a complete answer with instructions but with research now you should be able to get it working.
good luck because Tasker can be challenging but also once you understand it also very rewarding
Thank you very much for the answer and for opening my eyes to Tasker! But i'm sorry to say that i'm not really sure how to take it from here.
I have now installed Tasker on the phone and Autoremote on both the phone and the gear and I found that the tasker truly can be rewarding as you say, I have read alot about it and found several things that I can have use of.
But the thing is, will I be able to trick my gear through the phone into thinking it has access to my home network and use the app that way (I can and have installed the app on the gear but it can't find the tv-box as i don't have access to my home network). Or will the gear only be able to command the phones app 'Telia Zappa' to change channel on the tv-box? I don't get where to begin in either way and for me I would love to get access to the network right away instead of making scripts or what to call it for every app that must have access to my home network.
If someone have this figured out or have any ideas especially on how to trick watch to get access to my home network through my phone and bluetooth tethering of course, please help me out. I have so many fun and useful ideas for the watch wich I gladly share with you if I only could get this to work.
Thanks,
/P

I've got some apps on my Gear to connect to my computer, as Spotimote and Unified Remote. But I dont really get how the Gear can connect to my computer when it can't find my tv-box on the local wlan because it says it's connected to 'unkown ssid' in the tv-box's app. When I got the other apps to work I had the ability to manually set the ip adress to connect to, so I did just that and it worked! But I don't have that ability in the app for the tv-box. So how can my gear connect to my computer on the local wlan, but it cant find my tv-box or even the local wlan when I use the other app and both my computer and tv-box is of course on the same network. The app for my tv-box works just fine on the mobile device.
Nothing of above has been done with Tasker, or has it? Can it be that the connection between my phone and Gear through Autoremote provides the gear with the ability to communicate with my computer via phones wifi?
Anyone? It must be any way to trick the Gear into thinking that it have Local network access through phones wifi connection and bluetooth tethering.. If someone knows the answer or got any ideas plase tell me, and if it really is through Tasker and Autoremote please tell me where to begin!
My question remains unanswered, but only for now i hope!

Since I don't have Bluetooth on my computer I assumed that it was wifi/local Wlan, through the phones tethering to Gear. Maybe I'm wrong, but the only other explanation I have would be that the Gear connected through an internet connection to my computer wich i dont see how it would be possible when i only entered an local ip adress.
