[Q] Get Gear to access to WLAN? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hey, is there any way to get the galaxy gear to connect to my WLAN at home?
I am using null rom and tethering to get internet to work on my gear now, but i got this tv controller app that needs to connect to my wlan in order to work. Soooo, is it even possible in any way to get my gear to recognize a wifi other than the one my SGS3 creates? I see so many benefits to this because I want to control everything that's electric at home from my gear.
I have read everywhere and i can't find any solution for this.. The only thing i found was someone with about the same connection problem i think, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537003 . Where fOmey says something about using tasker & autoremote in order to get it to work, can any kind soul help me decipher these hieroglyphics so that I may get an answer?
I'm a noob at this as i got null yesterday.. Really good stuff though!! :good:
Thanks in advance
/P

well the answer in simple terms is to install Tasker on your phone and AutoRemote on your Gear.
so after you read from Tasker dev site on using it properly the long and short is that autoremote can send commands to your phone and then Tasker on phone will execute said command. your Gear has no wifi so this setup pushes command to phone that has wifi and phone sends command via network.
not a complete answer with instructions but with research now you should be able to get it working.
good luck because Tasker can be challenging but also once you understand it also very rewarding

Thank you very much for the answer and for opening my eyes to Tasker! But i'm sorry to say that i'm not really sure how to take it from here.
I have now installed Tasker on the phone and Autoremote on both the phone and the gear and I found that the tasker truly can be rewarding as you say, I have read alot about it and found several things that I can have use of.
But the thing is, will I be able to trick my gear through the phone into thinking it has access to my home network and use the app that way (I can and have installed the app on the gear but it can't find the tv-box as i don't have access to my home network). Or will the gear only be able to command the phones app 'Telia Zappa' to change channel on the tv-box? I don't get where to begin in either way and for me I would love to get access to the network right away instead of making scripts or what to call it for every app that must have access to my home network.
If someone have this figured out or have any ideas especially on how to trick watch to get access to my home network through my phone and bluetooth tethering of course, please help me out. I have so many fun and useful ideas for the watch wich I gladly share with you if I only could get this to work.
Thanks,
/P

I've got some apps on my Gear to connect to my computer, as Spotimote and Unified Remote. But I dont really get how the Gear can connect to my computer when it can't find my tv-box on the local wlan because it says it's connected to 'unkown ssid' in the tv-box's app. When I got the other apps to work I had the ability to manually set the ip adress to connect to, so I did just that and it worked! But I don't have that ability in the app for the tv-box. So how can my gear connect to my computer on the local wlan, but it cant find my tv-box or even the local wlan when I use the other app and both my computer and tv-box is of course on the same network. The app for my tv-box works just fine on the mobile device.
Nothing of above has been done with Tasker, or has it? Can it be that the connection between my phone and Gear through Autoremote provides the gear with the ability to communicate with my computer via phones wifi?
Anyone? It must be any way to trick the Gear into thinking that it have Local network access through phones wifi connection and bluetooth tethering.. If someone knows the answer or got any ideas plase tell me, and if it really is through Tasker and Autoremote please tell me where to begin!
My question remains unanswered, but only for now i hope!

Since I don't have Bluetooth on my computer I assumed that it was wifi/local Wlan, through the phones tethering to Gear. Maybe I'm wrong, but the only other explanation I have would be that the Gear connected through an internet connection to my computer wich i dont see how it would be possible when i only entered an local ip adress.

internet sharing w/bluetooth?

hi:
i have tilt and nokia n800.
both devices see each other but will not pair--no matter how i try.
if someone knows how, i would appreciate the help..
i want to use phone > internet AND n800 > internet at the same time..
is this even possible? or am i wasting my time?
do i disable the phone if i get internet sharing > bluetooth to even work?
i like wmwifirouter, but it disables the phone..
thanx
There's an ICS Cab floating around, you need it. Otherwise you can't set it up to do Bluetooth PAN. AT&T moved/disabled ICS.
Once that's installed and you run it, select BT, hit Connect, then connect to the "Dial Up Service" from your phone and it's done.
I won't ask why you're wanting to connect another phone to your Tilt, that's arbitrary I suppose.

No. When ICS is on, the phone itself doesn't have access to the net anymore, only the bluetooth device will have it.
Does the N800 support bluetooth PAN at all? Apparently from a quick search it doesn't at least from stock, needs some add-on/hacking or whatever.

no, i can connect to internet from phone when ics is on..
the forums for the n800 sez that it does support bt pan..
one of the probs is that 800 keeps trying to assign security key and there is no way to disable it..
even when i set phone to match, they always refuse authorization..no matter what i have done so far.
i appreciate the reply tho
edit :: i think youre right.. 800 does Not support bt pan..but i installed the maemo-pan hack for it
i really wanna use both devices at the same time..

If it's just launched yes, but not anymore once it's actively connected. No way around that as far as I know.

Preventing Xperia connecting without permission?

Hi there. I have a frustration with my Xperia. I know this phone is designed to be used in conjunction with the internet, but I have limited bandwidth to use. I find that my Xperia frequently connects to the internet without my knowledge. I cannot determine which programs are connecting, but is there a way I can prevent this? I would like programs to ask permission before connecting. Is there a program I can use or a setting that can help me.
I also use SPB Shell 3.5.
Thanks
there is a program called nodata. it can disable data communication in the phone. I forget the link just search this forum or use google
Im looking for app like that too.
@clodderes nodata just disables connection and you have to manually enable it. We are looking for app that will ask you if you wish to connect each time something will want to connect and then automatically enable/disable.

I Agree. One that asks would be better, but thanks clodderes because at least I can stop my phone connecting at this time. Maybe someone knows of a program that do what we want

[Q] Wifi direct Z1 on 4.3 couple of questions

Was trying to show someone wifi direct the other day and as it turns out it didn't want to work.
Went to album, selected a pic, pressed menu and share, scrolled down and there was no option for wifi direct.
I've also read that you have to pair with the device first.
I even tried an app that I used to use called SuperBeam which also didn't work.
Does anyone have this working?
I was attempting to send files to a Note 3, even android beam didn't work.
I don't use this feature all the time but it'd be nice to have a feature working if it's supposed to.
Cheers.
Superbeam works fine for me. 41mbps+ for large single file transfers

Same here. I was trying to connect via Wi-Fi to my TV Sony. I paired the devices but I never get it work and never displayed any pictures on the TV or even send them via Wi-Fi, I missing the option sending via Wi-Fi too. I don't know, I just give up.

for me it's mixed bag. sometimes it works like a charm, just press Throw, shows available devices, chosing one of them send the file to the output (photo, video, music). and sometimes - like after disconnecting and trying to connect again few minutes later - it doesn't work at all.
The point i'm trying to make is why on earth is it on the device if the device doesn't use it? I can't understand why a company would allow a protocol to be included and then not give the ability to use it?
On the vast majority of phone all you do is pick a file and select share, then choose wifi direct and off it goes, no need to be connected to wifi, infact you wouldn't even need a sim card to do it.
Such a stupid thing to happen and a bit awkward when someone with a sammy device is showing off a feature and even though yours has it it doesn't work lol.
I found myself saying "Ok just download this app" Bit long winded isn't it? I mean click share and click wifi direct job done, what gives ?

i've thought about doing it,
but its just so much work to just tether bluetooth internet to it + tether the GPS signal... so its just not really worth dealing with cause the watch battery will be dead in an hour + get extremely hot =P
It would be cool but man the buttons would be almost impossible to hit.
I transferred the ingress.apk to the gear and installed it normally. The only problem I'm having is that to enable GPS is to check mock locations. Anyone know a way around that?
ANY UPDATE ON THIS? I have a Gear S2....the one with wireless charging, I know how to enter recovery mode however cannot get Odin to connect, is there a NetOdin? I'm also open to installing Android Wear, shame I can't really use this other than for fitness and notifications.
thanks

When BT Connected, Turn on WiFi HotSpot

Hello All,
Looking for a solution to the title. Need to make my phone turn on WiFi HotSpot when it connects to the Bluetooth in my car. I tried this with Tasker and a guide I found online, but it fails and says error executing action: WiFi Tether.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
OP, I've tried to replicate the problem and it seems that the app doesn't have the proper permissions. Although all app permissions are enabled in the app settings, I think it's missing an additional permission. See screenshot below. You might want to contact support for the app to get the issue resolved.
As for a work around, it may be possible to do what you want with NFC stickers.

Yep, same thing I was getting. None of the automation apps for this particular scenario that exist on the Play Store work either. SecureSettings plugin for Tasker also will not enable WiFi Hotspot. Seems to be by design. I'm just going to go the NFC route since there is a particular spot I put my phone in the car every time. Thanks for the reply!

NFC will not turn on WiFi Tether it's an issue with the app not requesting the permission or Something with the Samsung Software. I had an LG G6 and it was working fine. The way I resolved my issue I use autoinput. Now it's working fine. see the attached:

Oh boy, looks tough. I'll mess with it and see what I can do. Would I still be able to get it to run this task when it detects that I connected to the BT in my car?
Thanks!

Yes. That would be the trigger. I have that on mine because I have an android headunit that like to have connected to the internet since I run waze, pandora and some other apps that require internet.

Sounds like the same implementation I have. Thanks for the help! So I would set the profile in tasker, and then the task would be what I put in AutoInput, right?
Thanks again!

I did it backward this time. I created the task first and then I create the profile. I use the state connect to BT to trigger the profile. Also it's very important that you enable smart lock, so your car BT can disable the lock screen and autoinput can do the job. You would need to buy the full version of autoinput since the lite version won't work.
