[Q] Wifi direct Z1 on 4.3 couple of questions - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was trying to show someone wifi direct the other day and as it turns out it didn't want to work.
Went to album, selected a pic, pressed menu and share, scrolled down and there was no option for wifi direct.
I've also read that you have to pair with the device first.
I even tried an app that I used to use called SuperBeam which also didn't work.
Does anyone have this working?
I was attempting to send files to a Note 3, even android beam didn't work.
I don't use this feature all the time but it'd be nice to have a feature working if it's supposed to.
Cheers.

Superbeam works fine for me. 41mbps+ for large single file transfers
Sent from my C6902 using xda app-developers app

Same here. I was trying to connect via Wi-Fi to my TV Sony. I paired the devices but I never get it work and never displayed any pictures on the TV or even send them via Wi-Fi, I missing the option sending via Wi-Fi too. I don't know, I just give up.

for me it's mixed bag. sometimes it works like a charm, just press Throw, shows available devices, chosing one of them send the file to the output (photo, video, music). and sometimes - like after disconnecting and trying to connect again few minutes later - it doesn't work at all.

The point i'm trying to make is why on earth is it on the device if the device doesn't use it? I can't understand why a company would allow a protocol to be included and then not give the ability to use it?
On the vast majority of phone all you do is pick a file and select share, then choose wifi direct and off it goes, no need to be connected to wifi, infact you wouldn't even need a sim card to do it.
Such a stupid thing to happen and a bit awkward when someone with a sammy device is showing off a feature and even though yours has it it doesn't work lol.
I found myself saying "Ok just download this app" Bit long winded isn't it? I mean click share and click wifi direct job done, what gives ?

TyTN 2: Unsociable Bluetooth partner!

Having a Bluetooth problem that I couldn't find on searching the forum.
Tried to send a .cab file to another XDA user the other day. Devices found eachother and paired fine. I was then unable to send the file to her. Just get the message "failed".
She however was able to send a .doc file back to me with no problems. I then tried to resend that file to her, but no joy. Unable to send any files at all, regardless of format.
Tried setting up the pair from my side, and then from hers, but still no joy. After half an hour, she commented that my phone was very rude, taking stuff from others but not willing to share in return!
Have since discovered that it will send files via Bluetooth to PC, but not other mobile devices. Any ideas why not?
No one else has had this problem??
Are you using a rom that has beam disabled? If no, have you disabled it on your own? I believe beam needs to be fully functional in order to do this (or so I've heard).
I'm not speaking from personal experience as I always keep beam intact (and if it is disabled in the rom I flash, I re-enable it). In turn, I have no issues sending via BT. Might be worth a try for you.
Also, a common misconception is: "Why does the Kaiser have "Beam" if there is no IR?". Many are viewing this as an oversight on HTC's part. However, beam is not just for IR.

You need beam on... I hard reseted my device several times as I could send from PC/Tilt to Trinity but nothing to Tilt. Then I realized beam was off
I don't think "Beam" is off, as I am still able to send things across to my laptop, and from laptop to TyTN, without any problems (well, only problems linked to MS's crappy interpretation of Bluetooth - no problems from the TyTN end, I mean
EDIT: Actually, how do you check beam is on? If I go to Start>Settings>Connections (tab)>Beam, the only option I get is a check box to select "receive all incoming beams". What about outgoing beams. Am using stock Orange ROM.
was the option to allow bluetooth file transfers enabled also? it has to be enabled for the phone to accept incoming files

You do not need to pair devices for file transfers. Delete the association on each device and if the receiving device is set to 'Discoverable' you will pick them up when you select 'Beam'
Also, some PDA devices have different levels of transfer security that is non-adjustable and conflicts, go to 'Settings'-'Connections'-'Bluetooth'-'Security' and un-check the box for passkey Authentication for 'Beam'
You still have the choice of accepting or rejecting the file but to avoid idiot 'spamming' on BT it is best to revert to non-discoverable when in public places.

Under Start>Settings>Connections (tab)>Beam, the only entry is "receive all incoming beams". The rest of the page is blank. Certainly nothing about accepting incoming files.

How to video conferance to pc with messenger?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I've read lots of threads but cannot see anything...
Is there some way of doing video over IP from the phone (wifi / 3G) to a PC?
Take it easy before you flame me, its my first post
research microsoft portrait
Thanks for that, but having tried it the forward facing camera doesn't work and the performance is pants even over a g wifi link. Am I missing something?
Not sure what you're really trying to do, but if you want to use your phone as a web cam then check out webcameraplus. Still have to connect with data cable to pc because it connects through active sync/device manager.
are you asking if you can look through your phone's camera on your PC?
eg: Your phone is connect to an online service that enables and uses your phone's camera, then you would connect to that service from your pc and see through the phone's camera.....is that what you're trying to accomplish?
It should be able to be done, I had ran across a program not too long ago that allows you to control and see whats going on your mobile, it is able to connect through active sync/Device maneger and over the internet (wifi/3G) so you should be able turn on the camera from your pc and see through the camera from your pc.....I din't remember the name of it, but its out there.

[Q] How to use Wifi Direct?

Hi
Well, I wanted to know how to use wifi direct to send things to my friend. His phone has wifi direct and my black too, but I don't know how to use. I read that I need an app called wifi cast, and I found this app on smartworld. I installed the app, but I don't know what do I have to do.
Thanks
Short: I don't know, but if you want know something about my experiment
After nearly a year with my black I wanted to try this feature. I could connect a Galaxy S2 with my Black. Then I tried to send a file from the S2. Error. I searched for a possibility to send a file from the black over wifi-direct but, there is no button for that.
I assume that LG wants you to use "Smartshare", but afaik that works only with other LG devices.
Hi Swaddy
Thanks for the answer.
My friend has a galaxy note, and some weeks ago I could connect my black to his note, but I didn't send any pic to his phone. But this week, I tried to connect and I couldn't, don't know why. I guess smartshare doesn't send files, but thanks anyway

for now we can use wifi direct for sending pics videos between two optimus black only using wifi cast, i have two OB @ home so i tested it but when i want to send it to my galaxy s2 or my brother's galaxy note it gets connected through wifi direct but wifi cast doesn't show them so its not possible to transfer with other devices except optimus black
The most useful for me is Copying files between OB and PC using WiFi direct. I have read somewhere that the other device doesn't need to have the WiFi direct hardware feature. Everything can be enabled with software... but How?
I use file manager by rhythm software it has LAN capabilities so i can connect to my PC by IP address.

How to use Android beam and WiFi direct on o4x

Can anybody tell me how to use android beam and WiFi direct on o4x? I have tried every permutation and combination to get these working but failed only play store opens and says item not found
Don't understand what you mean.
You find the settings or those are not working? What do you exactly mean?
Maybe this process needs an app and that app is not available in your country .
Maybe .
I mean to say, when ever i am trying to receive the data from other device over nfc i.e. through android beam, i am unable to receive the data and android play store pops up searching for some app and as said earlier that app is not available for my country (may be) due to which a msg pops up which says"App not available" Can anybody help me to get rid of this?
Hi Kanad,
I have tested the NFC and Wifi direct with many phones (apart from LG). When you turn on NFC, go to your gallery open a picture and now place your phone's back(as lg has nfc at its back) to the area of any other NFC enabled phone. When you do so your phone will vibrate and a message will pop on your screen stating Touch to beam. Please note our NFC only transfers photos or some website page. It is not to be confused with Samsung android beam. Our NFC uses bluetooth while Samsung uses wifi.
Coming to wifi direct. We cannot transfer files even though we connect through wifi direct to any Samsung devices. For using wifi direct we need to have a program called wifi cast or fast file transfer.

I'm sorry for asking this stupid question, but is it possible to send or receive large files, like mkv or some sort with wifi direct?
I've tried sending some movies over wifi direct to LG L9 but always failed. I've always thought wifi direct has got the same inner working as bluetooth, is that correct?
Sorry for these silly questions, I'm quite a noob on Android.

The largest file I ever sent via Wifi Direct using Fast File Transfer is an archive file with the size of 276 MB and the transfer was successful. I haven't tried to send anything larger. Also, the transfer was from my friend's Lenovo K860 to my O4X
LG Optimus 4X HD via XDA-Developers App

Hey, yes we can share files more than1 GB. You will require the right program. For Eg. Wifi Cast only supports pictures, etc. So fastfiletransfer can help you in this case.

Nokia 7 Plus TA-1062 - Cannot Cast/No device found when trying to cast

So as the title says, I can't use the cast/screen mirroring feature in phone. I just cannnot connect to any tv
Whenever I try to cast, it doesn't show any devices at all. Null. and using the button from the notification dropdown, it just searches endlessly.
Some notes:
1. No problem with network. No problem with TV. Other phones work just fine, and doesn't take more than a minute to find device.
2. I tried not only on my TV but on other TV's as well with cast feature. My TV is Hisense smart 39", 39A5605.
3. Already did several restarts, disabled active apps (like adguard), still same.
4. My phone is using the latest PIE update (official update but sideloaded)
5. Already tried connecting on the same WiFi network. Still didn't work. Other devices can connect to the TV without the need to connect on the same wifi network.
6. Already tried turning both mobile data and wifi while scanning. still nothing.
7. Already tried disconnecting current wifi connection (set network to 'forget) but left wifi on while scanning. Still no device found.
8. Already tried installing some apps (like Google Home app and other cast app). Nothing.
9. Already went to developer options and turned on 'Wireless Display Certification', but no additional options show up on my cast screen (like listening mode etc). Just plain nothing.
10. There's no three-dot menu on the cast screen that will show 'enable wireless display.' just a search icon on the top right and nothing more.
I really wanted to find a solution, but can't find a specific fix. I hope somebody here will help. Please. Please I'm desparate.
By the way, I know some will say I should do a factory resetting, but please understand if I say no for now. Because if I do, I'll lose a lot of settings and configuration (system-level and app-level), among other hassle it may incur.
Try connecting the TV on the same wifi as your phone and use xcast from playstore. My LG TV is a bit finicky when it comes to connection so xcast helps. But I do have the certification options on the cast screen. Since, you said you sideloaded Pie, if xcast doesn't work, maybe try resetting the device.

Thanks for the kind response. So I tried x-cast (though it uses a different name in the playstore now). Funny thing is, x-cast says it found the tv, which it did, and says it's connected via DLNA. So the phone can actually detect the tv, but why need x-cast? However, TV doesn't show any signs of connections or response. When I also try to play any video inside x-cast app, it's just stuck in loading. (see screenshot). Did I miss any step here?

This is the screen where the TV usually connects. I am sorry but I can't think of any other troubleshooting steps for now.
last night, I did a factory reset. Didn't do anything go. Just caused me a lot of trouble.
