I have had my Tilt for a little over a year now and I realy like it alot, but being a forward thinking person I understand that when my contract is up in 8 months or so I am going to want a new phone. I have been scouring fourums and manufacturer websites and have been unable to find anything that fills the Tilts shoes. One of my main concerns is that other phones all seem to be getting rid of the buttons on the front which I want to keep. does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement phone, already out or on the way?
wait and see what is coming out in 8 months.
There's not many phones worth the price or trouble to replace the Kaiser. I'd just wait and see what going to be new in the market. I heard HTC maybe making a phone with the Nvidia graphics chip, so that maybe worth the wait.
Otherwise, most new HTC phones are using a 128 Mhz faster CPU, with slightly more ram, storage, accelerometer, and higher resolution screen. Higher Megapixel camera too, if that matters to you. Some new phones don't even have a keyboard, so you'll have to use the touch screen.
If I were to buy a new Smart Phone, it'll probably be based on the Android OS. If WM6.5 doesn't get a massive overhaul, then Android is the way to go.
There are many android phones coming out that I would like to have.
Sony Ericsson Xperia 2!!! Cool Phone!
Nope here it is, the uber mega phone to crush all other phones.

Well, I can tell you my 2 years is up, and I am probably going to get the Touch Pro 2 (aka Tilt 2) from AT&T when it comes out.
when is that supposed to come out??

Originally it was scheduled for Oct. 6th, but ROM bugs apparantly pushed that back to Oct. 18th. However, I'd bet you could get it a few days earlier if you asked the AT&T reps. I got my Tilt 3 days early, so I don't think getting the Pro2 would be terribly difficult to get ahead of schedule.
Personally I'm thinking of switching to a BlackBerry if another good HTC doesn't come out. I got the Tilt as a replacement to the 8125 and I couldn't be happier. I've had it for a long time now and it's extremely durable. I've dropped it numerous times and it's still in good condition. The 8125 broke after the 5th drop so I was vary happy about the replacement.
i just went to my ATT store and asked if they heard about a tilt 2 or touch pro 2 coming out in october. and the reps there said they havent heard of anything like that coming out in october... is there some news link that says something about this phone??

The Boy Genius Report posted this story, and if you google "Tilt 2", you'll find quite a few pictures and articles concerning it. When I asked my AT&T reps, they said they didn't know anything officially, but one who seemed to be senior over all the rest said that he wouldn't be surprised considering all the things online about it.

I have several friends that work at an AT&T Corporate store and they have told me that they have heard the first of the month it will arrive. I think maybe we should just save ourselves the discomfort and just see wtf happens. There are many opinions and everyones anticipating its arrival but what I dont get is given the fact allot of us have awesome devices currently why the constant hysteria?
Its not like were all using razor phones and are waiting to experience windows mobile, or a modified rom, or the wonderful H on our phones, right?
Just my .02 cents but seriously how many times have we seen a post similar to this with a different date/ device name etc...?
I am using a RAZOR and by the time this thing comes out i will be to got damn blind to read that tiny screen after all the back and forth to all the messae boards this is driving me nuts!

I would venture to say that is way off , due to the amount of people that do know att reps including myself that already are being told they will have the device there to sell early this month. I am just gonna be content for my 8525 for the time being and just wait to see what happens.
Really though, the third is 4 days away. Don't you think SOMETHING would be made official by now? What is the problem with releasing a date anyway? Where are the ATT project managers on this one? Did AT&T not learn anything from announcing the date of the iPhone over 6 months in advance?

Well frankly I think they are a bunch of assholes but that could be due to me acting like an impatient child LOL. I personally have done online sales for almost a decade and I would say if a hot item was to be released and we gave our potential customers this half assed information, it would be someones job, period. I can appreciate how one company may operate differently from another but I definitely agree with your comment.
I had this phone for almost two months now and I have not experienced anything that has turned me away from another HTC device. I purchased it with only 35mins of call time for only $210 and I believe its worth double that. My life has become more organized, I get much better reception, I can use the internet at decent speeds, hell and the video quality isn't that bad, i got TT6, and so on.
I've really enjoyed this device, xda, and the learning process.
i've paid 800 cdn when it first came out and dont regret one bit...yes maybe there are issues with the phone but which phone is perfect? its all about personal prefs and give and take..to me this phone is good and i can live with whatever wrong with it...having said that its not the perfect phone cuz everyone wants this n that...i'll still switch over to the x1 just because its new and id like to try it out...if its not good then i'll go back to kaiser...if kaiser isnt good...maybe i'll look into another machine...but a phone is a phone...its not perfect...unless we manufacture our own phones
Since most forums are essentially self-help groups, it's not such a surprise. When I think of my previous WM5 i-mate - the hourly soft re-sets, unreadable screen in sunlight, constant need to re-calibrate the screen, poor receptoion (even though at the time I thought it was the coolest thing) - I thank my lucky stars!
chuk
i agree, its not perfect and the camera is rubbish, i still have the hermes and i prefer the camera on that but, updated hardware and built in gps does it for me.
People should start complaining about things that matter!
I'm irritated on principle about the driver issue - I strongly believe they should have supplied whatever software support was necessary to get the best out of the hardware, because we all paid for the latter and we shouldn't have to get it working ourselves.
On the other hand, generally the performance is acceptable and as a whole the device works very well. I'd probably be more annoyed if I'd paid a lot of money for it, but as it was quite cheap for me I'm more than happy with it overall. But HTC need to take note of the driver furore and the damage it's quite fairly done to their reputation.

I don't! ;-)
No, seriously: I thinks that's a false impression. In this forum you will find a lot of perfectionists who always want to get out the most of their phones. And even if they do, they still look forward in buying the next generation. At least that description fits me. ;-)
I don't complain about mine and I was one of the first people in my area to buy one. I Think someone cried wolf regarding the video driver and now everyone wants to be cool too. I would like to see them but my phone kicks other phones butts for breakfast.
I was perfectly happy with my 8125 (Wizard) until I saw Engadget's preview of the Tilt. I immediately pre-ordered it through AT&T Premier, and had it in hand on launch day. Even though I will probably buy the Xperia sometime next year, I am in no rush to get rid of my Tilt.
As a noob to the whole genre of ppc's... I have to admit from everything i have seen here at work with other pda's and ppc's, My tilt kicks the s--t out of the rest. I know there are complaints about the video drivers but f--k it, i didnt buy my tilt to watch videos... i bought it to take care of my daily needs for when i cant get to my computer....
Probably because it is human nature to complain......
I've had mine since the first of October 07, and haven't really had any issues.
I had to return it because the USB port died. Didn't really like the camera
until the hotfix came out, which pretty much fixed the camera issue for me.
Exactly... Ive upgraded like twice and got the fixes I wanted and I'll tell you I wont get rid of this phone for awhile.
I think the only real reason for a complaint is the driver issue...
people had expectations that the device would out perform a hermes for video playback because of the data sheet and the graphics chip. Then when people got it and it shuddered and such due to no driver support people got mad.
I understand, people bought the phone expecting one thing, spent a lot of $$ and it did not meet there expectations.
Maybe it was their bad for having expectations but, they were founded on qualcomms own marketing for the 7200 chip.
Oh I understand what you're saying about the driver issues, I'd be pissed too if I had bought for those issues. Its HTC/Qualcomms f--- up for putting out the ifo like they did. They have a right to be upset if they bought the phones expecting something that wasnt delivered.
No complaints on my side so far! XDA helped with any issues and couln't be happier. I too will look into the SE Xperia but the Tilt will stay
If it weren't for me finding XDA I probably wouldn't have figured out the possibilities of my tilt. And I have found some really awesome stuff for it.
Sure, I am annoyed that my Kaiser is not being all that it could be as its missing some drivers, but I still like it and don't think I have ever complained.
However, I liked my Hermes. If I had not broken it I would probably not have upgraded when my contract ends in June (I only want a 12 month contract max and am a student, so not a heavy spender and can't really afford £150 for the handset as well as the contract).
I see a note about a HTC Raphael - it might get me to upgrade, but then I might just ignore it as I don't dislike the kaiser. It's not like the Wizard which really annoyed me by the time I upgraded. At the moment the only thing I am interested in is moving to a rolling 1 month contract (which is not a bad deal) and I might buy the Raphael without a contract.
The tilt is the best phone i've ever had. Who says the camera is rubbish?! did you see the panoramic shots some dude took and posted here. Those are clear as crystal. I mean geez people want a perfect cell phone with nikon capabilities. People can't seem to remember that it's a PHONE!!.. if you look at how far we've gotten in technology it isn't a bad device. I personally won't get the Xperia. I'll wait for the next HTC launch. Videos play fine on my phone and I have full movies on my SD card and stream music and videos from my home pc with no problems. People just like *****ing. Like I said before nobody started *****ing until Bill Nye the Science guy started that driver post.
read my signature..
remember people... quest for perfection ends at you feeling empty and betrayed.
I have taken mine to Hell and back ...the fact that it still works is amazing
I realise it has some drawbacks..but I am fine with it. Not changing it anytime soon.
Im quite happy with my tytnII had it for six months now,it is a shame that the drivers are not there for the imageon card, mainly because im a bit of a gamer and was looking forward to seeing what it was capable of.
Unfortunately it seems its not upto much, the slow down on call of duty is laughable i think my nokia 6680 could out peform it.
That aside i am very pleased with it.
If it wasnt that i was put onto this site by someone i probably would have sent it back (HTC TAKE NOTE)...I got this phone free on cotract at the time they were going for £440 pound on ebay i would have been seriously pissed if id paid cash for it outright.
A set of drivers would be sooooo nice,so keep putting in the hard work those who are working on them, and thanks to xda devs a invaluable lifeline to many.
Ok I am now due an upgrade and would consider myself to be quite a loyal customer with vodafone. I have been messed around all weekend and now they want to charge me £140 to upgrade to a Tytn2. Am I wrong to expect them to upgrade me for free.
Or is it worh waiting for touch pro?
What are your thoughts
Thanks
Marc
I was in the same boat as you 11 months ago. Vodaphone had messed me about for a while and then wanted to charge me £150 to upgrade even though my contract had fully finished, not just the 2 moths befor your contract finishes your able to upgrade. I thretend to leave and asked for my PUK code. The next day recieved a call from someone asking what could they do to make me stay, I said free V1615, they said OK. You have to play hard ball to get what you want.
Has your contract fully ended or do you still have a couple of months to go???
Send in the letter cancelling your contract, then just wait for the call. That got me a Tytn II (V1615) for £50 on a 12 month upgrade last October, when it was a brand new, just released handset.
To be honest, I'd be tempted to wait a while if I were you, since the Touch Pro (spiritual successor to the Tytn II with better screen etc) is likely to be released in August/September, at which point the cancellations dept might just have some of those to hand out - or at least be able to do you a much better deal on the Tytn II.
I still have 60 days left. I have just had a look at the touch pro, do you think that it is worth waiting for. For me personally the only issue with the Kaiser are the video driver, is this something that they have sorted for the touch pro?
At the moment they have you by the goolies. I would wait your 60 days and wait for the Touch pro, i dont know when that is coming to voda though, Do you?

As good as the Kaiser is, the Touch Pro should be better all round, it's the replacement model and sports a higher resolution VGA screen, more memory, better keyboard, faster processor, flash light for the camera, and various software improvements like the Opera browser and Touch Flo 3D interface (admittedly Opera can be installed on the kaiser quite easily, but it's bound to look better on that VGA screen).
I wouldn't bet on the Pro being everything it could be driver-wise, but it's bound to be an improvement on the kaiser as far as video is concerned.
Welshdragon is right, asking for the Tytn II now while you're still locked into contract would be premature, you'll just be offered a fairly lousy deal on what is now a 9-10 month old phone, and in two months time you'll really regret it...
Wait until they know you can just walk away, then ask for that new Touch Pro you've been hearing about..

They're suggesting August here - http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3478 - no idea if that's true, but I've read it in a couple of places now.
As long as they have it for October, I'm happy.
Yea I think that you are right, I think that I will wait.
What are the chances of when I can walk when my contract is over that they would give me a free touch pro.
Looking on the vodafone website it appears that they are expecting the touch pro in for August.
I would expect to see some form of advertising push on the phone at any time.
I would wait for the touch pro

Well they can be quite hard-nosed about it, it really depends on what you're worth to them - eg, what your average bill is, etc.
Back in October last year, I was all set to walk out on my £30-40pm Vodafone contract because they didn't carry the Sony Ericsson P1, the phone I thought I wanted at the time. I wrote them a cancellation letter mentioning that I was dissapointed with the range they had available, especially now that O2 had the Iphone (the original, which had just come out at the time, but I wasn't remotely interested in).
I don't know if I hit a nerve with the Iphone comment or what, but I immediately got a letter back explaining why the Iphone wasn't as good as any of Vodafone's phones, and then someone from their retentions department ringing me the next day and offering a free V1615 (Tytn II) straight off the bat - I hadn't even asked for it! It had literally just come into stock with them that week, and was obviously the best smartphone they had to offer. In the end, because I didn't want another 18mth contract, they agreed to let me pay £50 and take it on a 12mth upgrade - and reduced my bill a little too.
It's definitely worth writing that letter when the time is right... I can only hope I get offered such a good deal on the Touch Pro this October...
I would wait too...
...as long as you're not in the US where the Touch Pro will not be able to get 3G, I would wait too.
It's too bad that the phone that I once thought was the "all powerful device of our time" doesn't support the 850mhz band for AT&T here in the US.
All of a sudden the Sony Xperia and even the Samsung Omnia are rising towards the top of my wish list.

hope touchflo 3d/manila can be ported to the qvga kaiser, should be possible since there's plugins that come in both qvga and vga and some plugins work great even without these so called missing kaiser drivers
I currently have a Kaiser (HTC TyTnII on UK Orange) but have only just looked into the HTC Touch Diamond... and wow, does it look nice!
On the Orange website it's saying I can't upgrade my phone until May next year. eBay has the Diamond at around £350.
So, I guess I'm wondering if anyone can advise me. Are Orange likely to cut me a deal if I call them up? I guess I'm bound to a contract with them at present so I can't say I'm leaving them. Will it be easiest just to buy one from eBay?
Is it worth it? Is the Touch Pro out or coming out soon? Should I wait for that?

If you can't upgrade until May then you'll get little joy out of Orange I'm afraid. You have to be in the last three months of your contract before they'll let you upgrade. However, saying that you've got nothing to lose by calling them and you may be able to get a deal if you change your package to a more expensive one.
Cal them first before going the eBay route - as I said you've got nothing to lose.
Is it worth it? Hell, yeah! I was torn between the Diamond and waiting for the Pro, but impatience got the better of me and I plumped for the Diamond.
Even though I've only had it a day I can definitely say that it is fantastic! It's up to you if you want to wait for the Pro. I've come from a TyTN II myself and I sat back and really thought about it before going for the Diamond, and basically asked myself two questions:
1. How often did I use the keypad? Very rarely, maybe three times in the eight months that I owned the phone.
2. How much free space did I have on my 4Gb SD card? 2.5Gb, so for me having 4Gb of non-upgradable storage wasn't an issue.
The final thing that swung it for me was the size of the thing. It's good to have a PDA that's "phone sized", rather than being a huge brick.
Thats a good idea Have a word with Orange and twist there arms, see what you can do. I think my missus is due an Upgrade in August and im sure she will go for the Diamond (but as shes skint, I think shes gonna put it on eBay!!!!!!!)
I love my diamond and have used phones with hardware keyboards and like the post above says, how often do you really use it?
Software professionals and IT gurus would probably miss it as im sure using a hardware keyboard and using the Remote Desktop software is a great combination, but the VGA screen is excellent on the Diamond, its the best phone ive ever owned (and ive had quite a few...see my signature!)
Diamond = Thumbs up. Theres sooo much software and tweaks out at the moment with more software coming out just around the corner!
The futures bright, the futures...errr...Diamond? hehe!

Wow, how did you cope without the keypad? I think I probably use it 10-20 times a day and this is the main reason I'm holding back on upgrading I guess.
It looks a fantastic piece of kit... but I don't think I'd like using an onscreen keyboard
How long have you been with Orange?
If it's over a couple of years remind them how much money they have had off you and if that doesn't work tell them you will consider cancelling the contract. Generally they want to keep customers so will eventually give in.
Also, it's always good to ask to speak to their line manager if they can't help.

I lost my current phone if it matter?
I know how you feel.
It would be pretty awful to lay out the money or lock into a contract only to hear info about a new device next week...
Would also like to know if there a re any rumours although I would be surprised if anything was released this soon. Would be a bit unfair on current WP7 users.
it always depands on you... how much u need a phone, and what phone you are looking at...
those models which will be launched in CES should be leaked by now...
i am using HD7 since launch and i cant be more happy with the device... i came from TP2 and i was looking for a Keyboard device, but there were none, so i got the biggest screen and it took me some time to get used to the on screen keyboard but now i am flying...
why HD7 as HTC is THE COMPANY which only makes PDA... i will looking at dell venue pro as well, however it has so many issues and its not even sold in asia...

i'd wait last thing you want to do is by hd7 only for some super ameoled dual core super w7phone to be announced
CES is two days away. Wait.
Yes, wait. Then maybe in three months or some they will release new device that was presented there and when they do, new phones will be presented. And then you will wait forever to get new phone. It's stupid to wait. World won't wait for you...

If you wait for CES you may aswell then wait a month for MWC
Then when something is finally released that was announced there, something else will be announced.
Then do you wait for that? Because if you do something else will be announced when that's released...

why opened two thread for same discussion?????

You could wait, but just because a phone is announced at the CES doesn't mean you can get it next week..(you say you lost your phone op )
I believe a GalaxyS phone is coming on Tmobile soon (like the Samsung Focus on ATT). Super Amoled screen, hummingbird and thinner/lighter phone on a more realistic size (4" is better than anything bigger IMO)
If CES is in two days, well lets see if that phone is announced, ATT just dropped the Focus price to half (now $99) I am assuming to take out the fanfare associated with the other carriers bringing out their versions. ATT did screw the pooch by not advertizing the Focus at all.
GalaxyS has been available through TMO for some time now. It just goes by the name Vibrant.
