HI,
I gave my X1 to vodafone on 29/8/09 due to the handset not charging. The expected return date was 9/9/09 so i visited the shop but they did not have it and was told to come back a few days later. In the meantime i phoned up voda and asked a rep on the phone who told me it was repaired and in the warehouse ready for delivery back to the shop.
I visited the shop again on 12/9/09 but still no handset, the vodafone computer says it was in repair still? The manager of the store called up voda who said they could not fix it and has been sent to SE. The manager contacted SE who knew nothing but said to call back in a few days.
The manager contacted my gf on monday as im away for work and told her SE does not have it and its not booked in, voda say they have sent it but does not have any details or tracking numbers. So the manager was forced to say that the X1 was now lost and does not know where it could be!
sorry for the long post but im asking if any other users have a similar story and what they done to sort it out
Thank you for your time
Sounds like a good thing, new phone for you. Unless you didn't do a back-up before hand, in which case it's a bad thing and

I suppose it would be good but from what ive read here Voda dont have any Xperias!
What an absolute shambles
Well, that's a local service thing. I would call them and say them that this is absolutely not okay and that they should think of a solution insteaf of you. I would recommend a new phone as well. Good Luck in this case...
(with them I probably mean Voda...confusing story^^)
you thought ur post was long! lol
the struggle that is vodafone:

Thank you for your comments
comeradealexi im aware of your awfull situation and hope mine does not get as bad
Im off to the store tomorrow and try to get something from this.
The manager at the store has said he will refund 1 month line rental as ive had no X1 for 3 weeks now but once the 4th week is up they need to do something more than that!
ill keep you posted.
Unfourtunatley unless you make a disturbance you wont get any where - you gotta be really persistant with vodafone - just a tip otherwise they will try and almost rip you off
well magically my X1 has arrived at the store today!?
I have just gone down to get it and it is a refurbed model but in better condition than the one i sent
now for the punch line....
I sent my X1 with the battery as the issue was with charging, they sent back an X1 with the smallest battery i have ever seen it does not fit and my X1 is now back with the store until they can get a battery in for it.
What retard sent the unit back with a tiny battery that will never fit i mean its like a 1/4 of the size of the X1 monster batt.
what a shambles, even the manager at the store could not believe his eyes
I cant help but laugh

I think someone will receive his phone with a battery which is too big for it...
Well.
Got a refurbed replacement X1 on Saturday, The casing was not fitted together correctly and the SE logo was bulging up and not flush with the Batt cover. The guy instore squeezed it together and clicked it back into place.
Also the left side of the screen it not fitted together properly and i can fit my finger nail into the gap (hard to explain).
I didnt want to send it away again so argued and managed to get..
1 month free line rental £40
Reduced my contract from £40pm to £15pm also as my GF is on the same contract reduced hers to £20pm from £25pm
GF gets upgrade in December I get upgrade in January.
Still does not make up for all the hassle and bull*hit they make up to keep you happy.

I thought this little story would show O2 in a slightly new light....
a couple of weeks ago, my prized XDA2s developed 2 faults....one, it the on/off switch stopped working and the only way to power off was to remove the battery (??!!) and two, there was no audio what so ever coming from the speaker....nothing on media player, nothing on a call (although i rarely used it as a phone)....
so, i rang the legendary CS and was told by a young person who clearly was on their first day of social speaking, that i needed to take it to my nearest O2 store...
this i did, to be told it needed to go away for repair (no replacements allowed) and that it would be approx 2 weeks......no loan unit, nothing....
anyway, phone call 2 weeks later from an entirely different branch to say my phone was back........
so, go into the store to collect only to be told by the assistant that they had not repaired the unit...........IT WAS WATER DAMAGED !!!!
personally, i have never used the pda in the rain, it has never left the expensive leather case that i lovingly enveloped it in.......plus, the screen was and still is in pristine condition, protected by the expensive protector that i purchased for it..................WATER DAMAGED!!!
he then proceeded to show me a photocopy of the main board with more arrows than a Red Indian convention - allegedly this was my board indicating all the alleged water damage...........
so after much discussion, whereby the assistant grunted, huffed, rolled his eyes, looked around the store several times at another argument that was taking place, he basically informed me there was nothing i could do........'claim on your household insurance'...........which bit of 'it has never been in the rain' did he not understand............
no repair, no replacement, don't care if i did write to Head Office, please take your £259.99 lovely pda with no audio/power button and leave....
WELL O2, YOU REALLY HAVE GOT LOUSY CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE.....
so if anyone wants knows anywhere i CAN get this fixed, i would be grateful
oh, and yes, i would definitely recommend Orange/Vodafone/T-Mobile to anyone !!!!
ouch....that sucks...were u on an insurance plan?
I was having a look through this insurance plan I'm on from o2 (oh...and not a fan of o2, just got the contract so I could get the phone for 99.99 and use it on vodafone) and if mine ever messes up *crosses fingers* then I'll probably call them up and tell them I lost it!
At least then I can be sure I'll get a working one back. lol
There is now a clause with lost phones, your claim must be accompanied by a police report number and then, at their discretion, they make a decision as to whether it is a "valid" loss, if they decide it isnt valid you get nothing it seems. I think the only people who need worry are those that have made multiple claims by way of getting a new phone every year.
all the networks are crap really, none them care, they are all halfwits in customer services.........and they still charge us a fortune for calls
It is fortunate of me, as i do not need to suffer from lousy customer service but the XDA in Singapore definitely cost more than those over at your side.
Hi, my name is Dom and I've been without my O2 XDAIIs for 1 week now. (thanks - I needed to get that off my chest)
I took my phone to an O2 shop last Monday and gave them a list of faults as long as the average M25 traffic jam. They told me 7-14 days and we should have it back.
If they tell me my unit is WATER-DAMAGED, I will be in contact with my solicitors. The closest my unit has been to water was being clipped to my belt while I took a wizz!!! Also, the only marks on the unit are the wear on the keyboard of the sliding mechanism and a slight scuff mark on the right edge where I knocked into a wall by a cyclist (crazy idiots).
My advice - contact a solicitor. Get he/she to get in tough with O2 regarding a replacement unit. The solicitor will cost a bit but it should get you a positive responce from O2. You might be able to get out of them.
Good luck!
Dom
Not only get a solicitor but make sure that the solicitor applies for costs as well as a replacement, that way it costs you nothing, assuming you win.
You may even be lucky and find a solicitor who is prepared to have a go on a no win no fee basis as it is likely to only take a few threatening letters to sort it out.
Just wondering if anyone can share there experiences with the exchange program through att..like what HAVE you gotten away with and what HAVENT you gotten away with and got slapped with the $500 charge lol
I followed the the warranty return thing on this forum, and I got no problem. I had seriously scratched the screen of the phone. I told the manager before sending it to quote she said its "normal wear and tear." But my speaker of the phone was messed up. On that same phone the void button and some ddamage as I was playing with it, I didn't what it was, until I found out later that its to open up the phone.
So, I got away with two major linear scratches on the screen which made writing with the stylus impossible. And I had damaged the button. But I told the manager of this before I sent it in. Or the High_end PDA department.

what did they find wrong with the phone???
i just sent one they sent me, the first time, i put it into the boot loader and noticed that the SPL was HardSPL, it scared me a little and well the screen cracked while i was looking at it an hour later, the phone rang so i looked and the caller ID and suddenly there was a broken screen on my tilt. not sure if they are gonna say anything about hard SPL but it came that way.
(part of me hopes i was holding someones old phone from this site)
oh yeah and this probably shoudn't be in ROM developement, ask a mod to move it to general
oh im just wondering..i was reading a post about putting the old att spl back on for an exchange and someone replied about how theyve returned 6 tilts with major problems all of which should fall outisde of warranty so i just thought id ask as i have a slight problem myself but its not keeping my kaiser from working and i opened a ticket with HTC directly as they dont screw you if you fall outside of warranty...my usb charger was getting a full contact and i had to bend it up and down to get it to stay charging (shoulda just sent it in then lol) and finally the plastic seperator of the pins broke out and then i bent in a pin a few times and that broke off..so i opened it up and soldered it back in and it eventially popped off again so i was thinking i could just squeeze the plastic piece that broke off back in as it wont come out unless you use needle nose pliers and sliding that pin back in..
I did a warranty return not to long ago. Phone was stuck with the radio from hell 1.65.17.10 and didn't have the friendly FrankKaiser that Jockyw2001 developed. Never had an issue with AT&T saying that I had altered the phone in any way. I flashed back to the original shipped ROM. Change the SPL to 1.56 the original one that it came with. I then re-flashed the original shipped ROM. When the ROM flash completed at 50% I unplugged the phone. This way on the phone will only go to the bootloader.
I actually just did a warranty return again today. Had some scratches on the screen that were really bugging me. There weren't big but definitely a nuisance for me. Told them the phone was stuck on the bootloader, or as I put it in "in this three color screen with Red, green, white." They issued a warranty replacement right away.

yeah cause we don't know about the magic we can do with the "pretty rainbow screen" come on ATW you let a few little scratches bug you. i'm still waiting for them to send me one that works, i've sent back three and i still have the original that i bought. two broken usb ports and a broken screen good job at&t for being incompetent
Has anybody done a warranty replacement and convinced them to send a new one and not a refurbed?

actually yes, well they say they will be sending it when the get the phones i just sent back. i talked to Christina and she told me that the phone they will send me next will be the tilt as it comes out of the box, including the software cd, usb cable, stylus, battery, and back cover. i will confirm when i recieve it but they tell me it will be brand new
Well, after I figured out my ROM issues. My phone had some problems with continuously soft resetting. I suspect a bad memory block. I made it clear through out my conversation with the rep that I took really good care of my phone and that I don't know how people can throw their 400 dollar phones around like they are nothing. I also made a point to say my battery seemed to be going bad and that I had done some research about Li-Po batteries going bad and that this seemed to be a classic case. I asked if there was anyway she could send a battery with the phone. (Just so you know, when you call warranty replacement, it seems to me they have two options, send a refurb, or send a full kit) So, she said she could send me a full kit and it is otw now. That is a good thing because my phone wont boot now. I think whether you get caught with a bootloader that is different than OEM kinda depends on who receives the phone on the other end. I'm sure they are SUPPOSED to check that, but I'm sure they can get away with not checking it, and I'm sure there is no incentive for checking it.

They could have said F.U., you broke it we are not resposible.
My phone got stuck in bootloader while doing a rom update.Called AT$T, they sent me through three techs, my answer to all there suggestions were " did it ", " did it ".
Three days later, they sent me a refurb ( in perfect condition ), in the box was the phone, a return mailing label/postage, even a new piece of tape to seal the box. Put the phone in,sealed the box, put on the label, dropped it in the mail box. End of story. The new/refurb has worked great ever since.
Could not have been easier or more pleasant.
So far it has been very positive even when my phone was technically out of warranty they replaced my TILT (not a cheap phone)
I have done 4 returns via mail and 1 by going to a local AT&T Warranty exchange center. NO PROBLEMS, I did revert back to original ROM but I am sure they didn't check. store replacement was in and out in 25 minutes. ( 10 minutes after my phone was looked at they just gave me a new one ).
AT&T You do have great warranty service I will give you that.
so all sounds good i should just stick my device in bootloader mode and send it back?
i can only revert back the rom as i cant sspl it so it shows hardspl AND security unlocked at the top..think thatl make a difference?
My miniUSB port was broke, wouldn't charge or sync most of the time. I called AT&T told them what was wrong and they said they'd send me a replacement. Once the replacement got here, I reverted my phone back to at&t ship specs, sent it back to them and all went well.
My girlfriend and I both had the Hermes, unlocked w/ cooked rom. They physically broke to a point it was hard to revert them back, but eventually was able to, we got 2 brand new Kaisers for $50 a piece. I'd love to know if I can 'loose' this phone and get a new kaiser for another $50 then sell the one i've been using for a couple of months for 2 or 3 hundred. If anyone has done this or knows how let me know!
I recently had to send in my Tilt and recieved a refub in the mail and everything went very smooth. Customer service was good and fast.
just returned 2 8525's and they sent me a tilt, first 8525 white screen problem, second one wont continue installing rom above 12%. awesome hardware warranty service.
wow they upgraded you to a tilt, thats amazing
warranty
as long as the phone isnt in more than one piece and the liquid indicator under the battery is white there should be no problem. Keep this in mind also. It all really depends on who receives it when you send it in. Everyone views physical damage, wear and tear, etc in their own terms even though there is a standard measure for it. Some let things go and others will say that a wear and tear scratch is damage. Generally you can get away with a bit as long as the phone doesnt look like a dog to it. No broken screens. No screens with pressure cracks (internal cracks). The screen is usually the biggie.
when i first got my kaiser i joined this site.. days later i BRICKED my phone, i had all types of apps and crap on my ppc. SO i went over to my original at&t shop and the dude called my bluff of "i dunno why, its not working". So i took my device and the next day went to another at&t shop with my brother. I walked in flirted my ass off with the ugliest sales rep i found.. and man this chick was beastly, and was able to swap out my device and get a new 512mb mem. card .. with no problem. i didnt even have a reciept, i just talked my way thru and SHAZAM!
I don't want to sit here and ***** but I need to let some of this off my chest.
My gf bought me a brand new diamond from the Europe (no proof of purchase).
Now I'm not totally concerned with the battery life, speaker volume, in-call volume, etc as I know tweaks will show up for this phone slowly slowly.
My main concern that is KILLING me and I'm afraid I can't do anything about it is my screen. Its crystal clear, but I seem to have two spots at the bottom of the screen that turn yellowish on a white screen and whitish on a black screen?
Is it safe to assume I got a faulty unit and I'm pretty much stuck with it?
I'm honestly extremely furious with this, and they are not that visible unless im on certain screens but knowing that they exist simply kills me.
I have attached a picture which should give you a decent example of how it looks. Its not that visible with this shot. One blotch right above the HTC logo and the other to the very left of that.

Call HTC service/support they should do an in warranty repair. There is no need for proof of purchase because they can just warranty it off the build date. I had to do this with one of my Tilts, did not have a receipt but they repaired it under warranty for free based off the build date. It did take 2 weeks for the whole process though.
Jeff
HI,
The battery life and other tweaks are already around and they have a made a massive difference to my diamond. (latest UK rom and a few tweaks)
You should not be stuck with it... have you called HTC ? how come you have no proof of purchase ? Even so you should still be able to contact HTC give them the serial number and be able to send it back. You may have to wait while it is fixed but hey its worth it.
The only other option is to buy a new screen (about £70) and fit yourself.
I can see how it would bug you just knowing the screen issue is there, but i am sure you are not the only person to have a fault, these things do happen.
I would be interested to hear what HTC have to say.

Since youve got this device early in its life (WAAAAAAAY under a year) get in contact with HTC and they will probably just ask for the serial number from under the cover.
I returned my TyTN after around 2 months to get the screen alignment issue fixed, they didnt ask for proof of purchase even though I had it etc....so wasnt a problem.
Had this been a year later then it might be a different story
Get onto HTC about it....and be calm with them remember this sort of thing always happens with consumer electronics it is nothing personal.
No it's not very visible!
Do you need proof of purchase for a repair? It's not like it could be out of it's warranty. If you do then contact the retailer or get a bank statement.
You're not alone though. I have a small guy inside mine waving a torch at me just above the home key. He's a little sh*t, but I'm the bigger person so choose to ignore him.
I have to agree with these guys. I'm on my 3rd or 4th HTC product and I'm here to tell you that their service is SECOND TO NONE.
They are one of the few companies if you call their customer service, they actually answer the phone, speak english and resolve your problem without putting you on hold.
Call them, you shouldn't have any issues.
Mark
Wow, I already feel so much better. I mean i was so hyped up with the VGA screen with this phone but it did let me down. I hope HTC acknowledge this problem and fix it for me.
I had initially contacted HTC America for repairs and they told me to call Europe. I did but they were closed. I sent out an email to HTC europe and I'm waiting for a response. Maybe it's better if I pick up the phone and call them in person?
I will report tomorrow if anything happens in regards to this topic.
UPDATE:
I contacted HTC America and told them about my problem, and to my surprise they were extremely helpful thus far and are taking my phone in for repair.
They asked where the phone was purchased and I told them, but did not ask for a proof of purchase.
I will be sending it out tomorrow and hopefully receive it back in 2 weeks time maximum. After that, let the modding begin
+1 for HTC support - really great service.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention; First person I talked to was not able to help me out and told me to contact HTC Europe. Hung up the phone and called again and I went right through

some muppets do occasionally escape form jim hensons workshop!
Had to send mine in for repair due to the earpiece speaker had an annoying buzz at medium to high levels. Called HTC UK, told them the problem, they said they can repair it no problem, they sent an UPS delivery driver to collect my phone from my house. They received it next day.
Took about 10 days in repair but came back today well packed in a small box, gave it a good test and it now works perfectly .
When I received it back they left the test rom, radio and boot screen on it and wiped the internal storage. Made a backup before I sent it though .
First repair I have sent to HTC as usually all my HTC phones I have are through Orange UK and if I have any faults, they send out a replacement handset in less than 24hrs to the door, driver gives me new phone and I give them the faulty one .
For excellent customer service I give HTC a 10 out of 10
So maybe I should wait a couple more weeks before I send it in. Then there is a possibility of a replacement with a working US 3G version
i am a complete ****in idiot.
I bougth a tytn 2 got it cheap, worked nicely, but case was tatty, so bought a new one, thought ok ill fit it myself, dismanteled it which took ages, what a ****in job that was.
got the screen in, and then attached the slider, ob wasnt on right, connected the keybord, and went to slide, it , only came out half way, i thought mmm ok, ribbon cable stuck, went to remove the keyboard, was a bit rought, and i sliced the robbon cable on the phone,
after hours of being upset (its my gfs phone) i got the courage to call her and tell her what happened, she didnt blame me but she was upset, and i need to wait till saturday till i can get her a new one.
But i was thinking, shurely i can buy a new screen somewhere, and pay someone to finish putting on the new case and fit the newly bought screen before then to have it fully working before saturday,
can someone help me out here, im in the uk if that helps
You can find a new screen online, i just bought one off ebay for 35USD including shipping.
Since i'm not in the UK i dont know where you could go to get someone to repair it for you but i'd imagine there are such shops.
I'm having issues with my kaiser as well. The lcd i ordered is for my dad's (he dropped his phone down a marble staircase) and just right now i woke to find my kaiser screen all white
hi there thanks, i got a screen for 25 quid and a new case for 50, not to go to the local phone shop see how much it will cost to fix it,
your phone sounds like a software issue, did u try to reflash it with a diff or the same rom, or soft and hard reset it first ?
tytn 2 all fixed
i bought a new case, and a new ribbon cable, and long behold the phone is now 100% functional and working, new radio flashed and boom instant signal, loving the phone, but...... haha ..... not mine, its the gfs and she thinks its to hard to use, do she wants a new one, and not having the case i cant buy it, check ebay u guys its on there now, im so sad to see her selling it
Hi Guys
Yesterday I took my phone out of my pocket and immediately realised it had 4 or 5 thin cracks emanating from the left, roughly where the charging flap is.
This is a MASSIVE headache. The phone was perfectly fine one moment as I recorded a video with it... I then put it in my pocket and when I removed it 30 mins later it had broken. I did not drop, bang, bash, knock nothing it. I paid cash for my phone so I have guarded it with my life. I never had anything else in the pocket with it and it was loose fitting shorts.
Now normally this would not be the end of the world, but I am on holiday in South Africa. I live in the UK so warranty repairs I assume would have to happen there. I have Amex insurance on it, usually they are very good, but if they send me a new phone I would likely be liable for a huge chunk, as in 40% of the value, import duty.
If they make a cash value payment to me I can buy the phone here, but then if it breaks in the UK the service centre there won't touch it.
I honestly feel really angry about this. I sold my iphone 5 in September and bought this phone, knowing full well that perhaps the biggest price I would pay would be the drop in after sales care. I would have been able to live with the crack until I get back to the UK, but like I said my phone is totally unusable.
Oh yes and I am only going back in May!! That is 5 more months so I can't be without a phone for half a year...
Has this happened to anybody? My circumstances are pretty unique, but can anybody offer any advice at all? surely people's phones break while on holiday, Sony can't just turn their back on me?
Thanks,
Johann
I think it's a unique case but just to be sure can you post some pictures?

Ok my only camera is my phone, but I will borrow my mum's phone tomorrow and take some pictures in the light. I have heard about spontaneous cracks with the Z ultra but not really Z1... I would be keen to know if anybody else discovered cracks...
Hi I didn't end up taking a photo but thought I would post an update.
I called Sony Mobile South Africa and they will NOT do a warranty repair here as the phone was bought in the UK (Why did I leave Apple??) however if I want to I can have them fix the screen for me for R4000 which is £236!! Plus the phone would have to be couriered to Johannesburg about 1600km away from Cape Town...and couriered back at my expense....
I then contacted Sony Mobile UK and a warranty repair can only happen if I courier the phone to the UK and pay for the courier back to SA. One of the major risks in this would be potentially being slammed with an import duty on the phone of 40% which would be about £240... even though I do not live here and will be taking the phone with me back to the UK in May...
In the end I had to courier it to London at £40 today my partner will now collect the phone and send it to my insurance company who will then either fix it or replace it.... my partner will then send the phone back to me at approximately £70.
Why am I telling you all this? Basically, don't let your phone break when you are on holiday... especially if you are on a long holiday like me, 5 months...
Sony's aftersales care is PATHETIC compared to Apple... I keep on asking myself, why did I do this? I knew it at the time and it was perhaps the single biggest thing putting me off leaving Apple... little did I know my phone would break just 3 months after getting it...and that a cracked screen in Xperialand means UNUSABLE screen... unlike my apple phone that had cracks in the screen for many moons before I bothered to fix it.
