What about Windows 7 mobile ? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Somebody knows new Windows 7 for mobile ?

???
Dude I don't think that is on the horizon yet. Microsoft is still trying to get 6.5 to look good.

WM7 isn't even in closed beta stage yet. And when it IS eventually released, it will NOT run on the Kaiser, ever.

[edit]
I removed my post becasue I do not know what I was talking about

The last I heard was Microsoft released strong minimum specs for Windows Mobile 7 devices to ensure the new mobile OS runs well and gives a good consumer experience.
Here are some informational links:
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=7528
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/windows-mobile-7-chassis-concept-confirmed-by-microsoft-not-det/
http://uxevangelist.blogspot.com/2009/05/windows-mobile-7-ui-still-under.html

last thing i heard about it was:
Microsoft has confirmed that the current team of 1,000 developers, working on Windows Mobile 7, are planning to feature social networks as a key element of Windows Mobile 7. In a company job posting, spotted by Mobile Tech World, officials are looking for a senior program manager in the Windows Mobile 7 Communications Group: The Windows Mobile 7 Communications group is building experiences on the phone that present your content - friends, pictures, messages, events - to you in immersive and engaging ways. Our vision is to bring social networks to life by integrating them into the core experience of the phone.

windows CE6

Today windows ce6 was launched. can anyone tell me if this will work on a qtek 9100 ? currently running win mobile 5
Don't think so buddy .
"Released" means to manufacturers and developers. You and I will probably never see it on any device currently available.
It'll still be 4-6 months before any devices come to market with it...
4-6 months?
hehe.
Windows Mobile 6.0 will be released in 2008.
Platform Builder
Well, I've gotten my grubby little hands on the Ce6 platform builder, which should allow me to make a rom. Unfortunately, it requires a hefty amount of configuring to get it to work. When I get some time, I'll see if I can make a rom.
-Jim
I have also gotten the embedded CE6, when I have some time I'll check it out. See if it can be installed on the Wizard
plasticbiker: is that with a full HTC bsp, or just the generic non OEM version?

Would be nice to have a stable WM5 first...........
This is not what I was led to beleive it was, this is for developers and manufacturers who want to pay $1000+ for all the software. Maybe someone who is a hardcore programming hobbyist can help us, other than that I think we get to wait.
any chance of you shareing your embedded CE6 alone it may take awhile but if we all work together thing will go alot faster as u know

I have just the basic Platform Builder that MS is giving out.
Link
My experience with WM5 platform builder leads me to believe that it won't be a trivial task to create something that is actually usable on the wizard. One needs to migrate drivers and such from WM5. Odds are, unfortunately, that the WM5 drivers will not be compatiable. Microsoft is claiming Ce6 is a complete rewrite.

Free App Till 3/1/08 Fake Phone Call

FREE TILL 3/1/08 ***NOT FOR PPC'S***
*****NOT FOR PPC'S SORRY***
I came across the lil program that makes your phone ring at a specific time, so you can "politely" excuse yourself. Nifty lil program, and it's FREE

Nice find. This could come in handy for those company meetings noone wants to attend.
Call Jockey for Windows Mobile Smartphones
Platform: WM5 for Smartphones, WM6 Standard
Has anybody tried with PPC? Is it touch screen compatible???
The dev website shows SP only.
From their website FAQ:
Q: Are your programs compatible with WM5 PPC/Phone Edition or WM6 Classic or Professional devices?
A: Our programs are designed for smartphones and they are not compatible with any device based on the Windows Mobile 5 PPC/Phone Edition or WM6 Classic or Professional platform. We are considering development WM5 Phone Edition/WM6 Professional compatible versions.

XDA-Developers safe - HTC “happy” about them

Just saw this post over at wmpoweruser.com, and thought I would share it over here. Looks like HTC gives XDA a big pat on the back
This tidbit is not exactly ground-breaking, but it is an answer to a question that has been asked many many times:
How is it that XDA-Developers still exists, despite the rampant hacking of the Windows Mobile operating system and OEM software (especially HTC’s) that occur there.
aqtrans put this question to HTC’s official representative on twitter:
@htc since you don’t backport OSes, how do you feel about the community filling that void? I’m running WM6.1 on my Wizard thanks to them.
@aqtrans while we can’t officially comment on backporting OSes, we will say that we are happy there is such a vibrant developer community! There is no doubt im my mind that Windows Mobile would not be half as popular as it is now without the support provided by XDA-Developers, which to my mind ads a vibrancy to the platform lacking from more dull platforms like the Blackberry OS or Symbian. I am glad even HTC realizes the value of this very important community, which will hopefully continue going from strenght to strenght.

[Q] Android Market App

Newbie help please ! I have just got an unlocked T-Mobile MDA Vario 3 with windows 6.5 professional on it and want to download an android app (ebay) I have the link for it but it says I need the Android market Place app first, where can I get this from, Thank you.....
you have WM so i dont think its possible to run an Android app
haha... Have you heard of an OS? Short for Operating System. Mac is one, Windows is one, Linux is one. Now, you can't run a Windows application on a Mac, right? Well, It's the same for a mobile OS to (Windows Mobile, Android, iOS).
The Android App Store is only available on a phone running Android OS.
However, you can port Android to your WinMo quite easily, thats what the whole "Android Development Forum" is about.

Windows 8 RC1 for ARM Devices released.

Just got word of windows 8 with support for arm processors was released. Looking forward to see if anyone can port it to our lovely touchpads.
Sent from my HP Touchpad using XDA Premium
Well someone in the other thread said a good idea is to develop a bounty to get it done, in that thread someone calcjulated about $200 in donations for it. I add $10 more here.

I am probably going to catch Hell for this from at least a handful of people, but I need to point this out:
Any sort of port of Windows, in any form, to the TouchPad without the developer first receiving permission from Microsoft (which you won't get) and the user of said port purchasing a license from Microsoft is illegal. I vote to have this thread and any more like it that appear pulled.
I was actually unaware of this fact. I apologize for creating this thread then. And please pull it if necessary.

It should be fine and dandy if we use the development builds, but not the full releases. Development builds are used for development, which is generally what happens here. Once the full licensed versions come out, we cannot use those without the consent of Microsoft.

exactly. Ive been running windows 8 dev preview on my desktop for months now, and I didnt pay a dime. They install a kill switch on them, so whatever development we make may be short lived, because i dont see Microsoft selling a ARM version to the general public. I think that they will only make it available to OEM's in the long run.
Well a dev could always release some sort of tool or method to turn a Windows 8 iso into a ROM, without actually having to release a full version of windows. We could all use our own legal copies then to make our own ROM.

and how exactly do you plan to get a legal copy of win8 ARM when microsoft stated that they dont plan to sell any?

So its basically the same situation as Windows Mobile ROMs back in the day. It was a grey area and since you couldn't buy a Windows Mobile upgrade ROM, cooked ROMs were the only option. I haven't heard of Microsoft taking any action against all of the WM roms that were posted over the years.

The difference is that those WM devices had licenses for at least some version of WM, making it a gray area. The Touch pad has nothing of the sort. There is no gray ara for it. None the less, I am curious to see where development goes with this.
Nothing to see here folks, the leak was a fake.

Exactly right, this thread is ok for discussion, but we can't go down this road for the TouchPad. Sorry.
