Req: SMS via PC - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

Since there are a lot of developers here...
I'd really like an application with which I can send SMS via my pc (using either usb or bluetooth). So I am not bothered to type SMSes on my telly but rather on my computer.
AFAIK there doesn't exist a program like this?
For WM I used to use Jeyo Mobile Companion.
Thanks!

Quick search of the market brought up 'Droid Messenger'.

Thanks, but I rather have my messages not sent via a website. Who knows what they'll do with it.
Moreover, the website doesn't work anyway.
Maybe other suggestions?

I used to use a program called mymobiler on my Windows Mobile that allowed me to type via my keyboard onto the phone. Made sending long SMS's a breeze!
I just found this morning a program that does something similar. Allows you to control your Android phone via your computer -

Works quite well!

Thanks for that androidscreencast tip lewman! I have been after something like that for ages and even considered making myself one! Will try it tomorrow and see how it goes.
Just found something that might be interesting
http://sites.google.com/site/desktopsmsforandroid/en
not sure if it would work for htc hero, but worth a try.

I am using the desktop sms mentioned in previous post on my Hero and it works perfectly well.
It got installed as a package when I installed Droidexplorer (very nice program for windows users).

Well, I tried desktopSMS and it does appear to work. It did force close on me once at the beginning, but it seems to work ok now. Can sent a message and appears in the list when I receive them.
I just wish there was some sort of notifications on pc that the message has been received and who it was from.
Unfortunately, androidscreencast doesn't work for me. I get an exception error (permission denied) when loading the jnlp link. Lewman > how did you get your androidscreencast working?

if you don't mind shelling out a bit - get smsToMailbox - I've been using the Lite version and it works perfectly/free

Hi guys,
Any update on this? Is there any other app which can do this?

You want to write your sms from the hero via a pc, usb connected for example? I use My Phone Explorer... works on all Android devices.

Andriod version of "My Mobiler"

Is anyone going to made a "My Mobiler" type of application for the G1?
It was very nice to have it with my Wing.
i loved it on my Wing too. i miss it!
Please report this thread to Koush
As he already have Screenshot Application Relaying it to any IP Socket can make a Video Streaming of Onscreen on G1 then only Catching Mouse and Keyboard Events from PC to G1 is require and mapped and channels to Device can be done to Make such Applications
Bump!
Did anyone ever find an app that does anything remotely like this? I'd love to have this capability, since I'm near a desktop pretty much all day and could benefit greatly by responding to messages through a PC based console.

Someone, please do it! I used MyMobiler constantly on my previous WinMo phone (T-Mobile MDA). I would pay to have its equivalent for the Android T-Mobile G1. I haven't rooted my G1 (yet) but would absolutely do it if it was required for running a MyMobiler-like app.
Just think of it:
- Type text messages using your keyboard.
- View your mobile screen on your desktop.
- Control your mobile by using desktop keyboard and mouse.
- Copy/Cut/Paste text between mobile and desktop.
- Capture mobile screen.
- Drag and drop files to your mobile.

i looked in to this a little for a project i am working on (Droid Explorer). I found that /dev/input/event1 is the touch events, /dev/input/event2 is the trackball events, /dev/input/event3 is the keyboard and buttons, i cant figure out what /dev/input/event0 and /dev/input/event4 are for.
I tried writing to the file with events that were "recorded" but was unable to write to it. That is as far as I got when I was looking in to it, I put it on the back burner for now.
This would definitely be awesome to get going
Hmm, im not a dev or anything but wouldn't it be somewhat easy to redirect the emulator in the SDK to use the phone instead of the files in the SDK?

here is a VNC Server for android.
http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-server/
it works realy slow so its not for daily use (and after a time of use, the android turns into a reboot), but i think in the sorcecode you can find something that can help u
Hey guys there is one now!
[Tool] Android Screencast (open-source)

Go search for mymobiler at code.google.com and vote for it.
I want something like this too and I can't root my phone...
Does the VNC Viewer work over USB? (On Windows Mobile it make a RNDIS connection over USB so I could use TCP/IP programs like Web/FTP/VNC Servers...)
MyMobiler for Android is good solution
For those who have used MyMobiler on WM, I just read on there website that MyMobiler now supports Android! I tested it and it works on my Inspire
http://mymobiler.com/ it is also listed in this froum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230349

Does such a program exist?

I have serched high and low. I was wondering if there was anyway to get Microsoft Access onto my Fuze. I have a biz that runs on Access, it would be helpful if i could have it with me at all times instead of having to carry a laptop everywhere i go.
I don't think such a program exists. I'm assuming that your Access stuff is a full application with forms, etc? You can probably use something like this --> http://www.handster.com/programs.php?id=2906&for=Pocket PC mdb to update the tables, but I can't see it running reports, etc.
If you have a decent data plan, then one option is to run Remote Desktop to a PC back at base running the Access Application. I've got a Virtual Machine on my server which I can access from my Touch Pro. I can run any app I want on there, and as long as I don't try to do anything stupid (like play a video), then it works fine. This is the only way I could see your Access application working on your TP.
Cheers,
Steve.

I believe the client is built into the Fuze. If you have a custom ROM, just do a search. Several threads have the cab to install it on the Fuze. It has also been built into Windows since at least XP. You have to be a local admin or in the remote users group to Remote Desktop or RDP to your desktop.

Website Monitor

I was wondering if there is any windows mobile software that can monitor some specific websites on http or on specific ports.
I'm a web developer with some servers which I want to check every 10 minutes if they are online, and since i always have my mobile it would be useful if i could run some program on it.
I found the following software:
- Porta+ http://portaplus.com/
This one does not work on windows mobile 6, it always says it doesn't find a data connection, even not when I use wifi or gprs
Perhaps someone has something better?
Found in the Windows Mobile MarketPlace a nice one: "Server Monitor"
Greetingz Themuzz
Email Alerts?
In my opinion, the far better option is to run some server-side monitoring package which sends out email alerts. Then use push email to your phone. Much more powerful monitoring can then be done, you can filter which alerts you want to get, and you'll still have monitoring being performed (but without the alerts) if you switch your phone off.
Nagios is one option - my preference is the free version of Big Brother (see http://bb4.org/home1.html - available in *nix or Windows versions). Both of those would do what you want - and more.
Thanx for the reply, but the problem is that I don't have a server where I can runs this sort a software, I only have dedicated servers pure for http en sql.
My phone is always on and has a internet plan so it would be easy if i could run something like porta+ on my phone.
Perhaps someone else has a solution?
Greetingz Themuzz
Ask porta+ if they can update it?
Just did, i'm wondering what their response will be.
But in the mean time, if anyone has another solution?
Well, found a nice one (after a year ) on the Windows Mobile MarketPlace. Namely "Server Monitor".
(For the people who where still searching)

brutal combo of scenarios

So I've been diligently managing a pretty pristine outlook contact list that im pretty satisfied with. I've been syncing back and forth via bluetooth (usb port went bad about a year ago).
Recently i reformatted and reinstalled windows 7 on my computer. I did not back up my contacts on the computer because they are on the phone and figuring i'd get them on the re-sync (which I've done before). Unfortunately In that short time period I managed to smash my phone touch screen up pretty good, making things more difficult (and a lack of tap and hold). I cannot for the life of me get the two to sync up to each other via active sync. They pair together fine and send files back and forth to each other, but cannot get them to sync to each other. In the past i've just gone on the phone active sync > connect via bluetooth and then it starts doing its thing in windows mobile device center... Whenever I do it now I get the message
"cannot connect using bluetooth to a pc that supports active sync. you may be out of range. it then asks if i would like to create a different partnership with a pc."
I've obviously created a new pair, turned on visibility and discovery on both pc and phone. Each time it gives me that error message about creating a new pair.
A couple of side notes.
-I have some thoughts that it might be a conflict with the new and old bluetooth pairing but i cannot delete the old one due to the lack of touch screen for the tap and hold. (perhaps there is a way to do this on the hard keyboard)
-I could give a crap about the phone, I've already got a new one. I just want to preserve my contacts.
-I've made a pim backup and a sprite backup of pertinent info but its my understanding that both of these only work with my phone and not outlook, not to mention only my specific rom version.
What is the easiest way to proceed to salvage my contacts?
Sorry for the rather long post on a familiar and oft rehashed question but I couldn't find the answering in any other posts and wanted to be pretty clear with my post.
first of all, since you have made a pimbackup of contacts, your data is SAFE no matter what ROM or which windows mobile device you have! the sprite backup, on the other hand, CAN be specific to your ROM/device depending on exactly what you chose to back up.
so you can always restore the pimbackup archive to a good working windows mobile device (borrow a friends?) and sync up that device with your desktop.
with that out of the way...lets see...you've got a bad screen? i would suggest using a "remoting" tool (like mymobiler)...but i think mymobiler requires a working activesync over usb...but you say your usb port is screwed?
if you can use the screen just enough to install "wifi remote access 1.7" and configure it and enable WIFI, then you can remote control your device using the relevant functionality of "wifi remote access 1.7" from the browser on your desktop, assuming you have a WIFI network at home.
with the screen hurdle out of the way, i suppose it would make your ability to configure things on the device a bit more possible. for starters, even though you have used pimbackup, also install microsoft myphone and upload your contacts there as well. while you're at it, you can mess around with activesync on your device some more to try to get it to sync.
BUT! i think the problem might be on your recently refreshed desktop. i hear windows mobile device center should be upgraded because an update is available.
if all else fails, you can use pimbackup to create a "non-binary" archive (the style is configurable during the backup wizard use case). this non-binary archive is actually a zip file containing a csv file (comma separated values). so you can rename the archive to "something.zip", extract the zip on your desktop and use microsoft excel to open the extracted csv file. here, you will get an easy to edit file with your contacts laid out over rows/columns.

Or I just won't use the program that is good for nothing. Why would I search for a file when he posted one that "works" Maybe because it doesn't "work" and has been proven by not just me. So take your ignorant remarks elsewhere.
why are you still complaining? if it doesnt work for you ok you dont have to keep saying the same thing we get it steve jobs!!!!!!!!!!!
Current version 1.76.208
I am running version 1.76.208 on Windows 7 64 bit, controlling an Atrix 4G
Download the program at http://91.pandaapp.com/pcsuite/
A fix for a bug that the developer keeps forgetting to repair (it always opens in Chinese!)
Close down the program and open the directory where the app is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\NetDragon\91 Mobile\Android on 64 bit machines
C:\Program Files\NetDragon\91 Mobile\Android on 32 bit machines
open the file named "91 PC Suite.xml" with notepad
change this line
<Language Current="zh-CN" Default="zh-CN" />
to
<Language Current="en-US" Default="en-US" />
Save the file.
Restart the program
