What kitchen are you using? I know joshkoss has a kitchen here, his kitchen is real simple to use. Do a search using the link in my sign.
JOSH kittchen is the best for me.. but not visual things.. also is not but for me..
just put what you need in correct folder and thats all
if you don't want something just delete it so simple..

Hi,
Please could someone point me in the right direction on a tutorial/guide on how to use KovskyKitchen? If there isnt one at the moment then please let me know.
Furthermore could someone let me know how to rip/extract the baseROM from a UK Vodafone X1. I am completely new to this game but would like to make my X1 as lean as possible (really how I see fit), do worry I HAVE SEARCHED THE FORUMS but cant seem to find a definitive guide.
Cheers,
Phil Rich

There isn't one for X1. But you could read the guide for kitchen for other device (Touch pro, kaiser ...etc) since all are basically the same.
Basically, you need to put the extracted nbh file in /baserom and run the command the to extract.
Or maybe you could try mine or itje's lite/clean rom to save yr time.
searched and searched but didn't bother reading a couple of threads down on here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446382&page=2
to dump the rom you need itse rom tools and run pdocread.
if you type rom dump into the google search at the top it tells you how to do it.
I have dumped the vfuk rom, but the 4 raw files are even at maximum compression 250mb+ so I haven't had time to post them
When you have the 4 raw parts you stick one of the base ruu_signed.nbh roms that are already on this forum and put part2 & part3 raw files in the base rom folder of the kovsky kitchen, as said here.

Thanks for the advice, but...
Hi,
Thanks for the links fards.
Please could you describe to me what a nbh file is?
What does it do and where can I get one from?
Does this come from the ROM dump?
Thanks,
Phil

Just curious, but do you have any experience flashing ROMs yet? I have owned 3 XDA's and flashed many ROMs so I know a lot about the ROMs SPL's and such. Thats something you should be knowledgeable in. I am thinking about getting into cooking too now.
A nbh file is a ROM. The nbh is the product of your cooking, and the nbh is what you put into the RUU to flash to your device. You can get it from a ROM dump or you can download it from others.
It's always a good idea to just download the tools, start them up and take a look around. See what options are available and get familiar with them. From there start asking questions. It's a bit hard to answer if you're basically saying "tell me everything".

you're learning fast
all ive ever done is read the other device tutorials and had a play, although i did prefer the hypercore kitchen on the athena to the kovsky/kaiser based one.
but it does the job especially with the really neat options.xml generator
I am starting to learn to cook roms, does the HyperCore work for xperia? what kind of dump should i select? normal OS.bin (option 3)?
anyone have any tutorials or anything like that, i'd like to make my own rom, own tf3d theme with the rom, own programs...any ideas guys i tired using the SEARCH but when i click on it, and type in what i am looking for , the next page i see is Page Cannot Be Displayed

I posted, no more than 5 days ago a link to a thread on the blackstone forum that told you exactly how to cook a rom.
Link is also in the X1 Wiki

Based on my recent experience i would say you are just gonna have to search and search and try and fail. I'm still having issue porting newer XIP and SYS's but u just gotta stick with it. A WHOLE LOT OF SEARCHING TOO!!!! Everything you need is on here (i know ur gonna hate reading that) you just have to do a lot of searching and googling and trying. It really helps if u start from a stock ROM so u can see how its decompresses and its structure. We will help as much as we can.. Good Luck.

Did you see anything missing in the thread on the blackstone forum? I thought it was really thorough.
How to Cook Roms
Okay there's plenty of people ask about cooking roms.
There's a good thread started on the Blackstone forums to teach it. It'll work as well for X1 as for the HD.

I didn't see that when i was searching around but i saw that a lot of tutorials just don't work. I used a couple tutorials to port the XIP and SYS and none of them worked. I finally just dumped someone's ROM and tried to build packages and tried to see which SYS folders needed to be moved over. Although that is failing now lol... That is the only thing that i didn't see in the thread that you posted was how to port the XIP and SYS. Maybe i just missed it i kinda just glanced.

have you tried bepe's package rebuilder? it's not bad at all.
Yea i've used that but i can never get the SYS port to function correctly. I think i keep forgetting a step or something cause its apparent i got it to work once For the XIP port i just xipportex. That is like the greated thing since sliced bread
I know there are tutorials, but they are way too much too read, I was wondering if some expert chef pens down simple method of re-cooking the Rom with any tracking software, so that all the novices like me can protect our expensive phone.
All I am asking for is with kitchen to use for 6.5 Roms and how to re-cook it with any tracking software, in simple steps.
Pls dont get offended by my pic.
Thanks
So you want someone to produce a halfassed tutorial that may not be complete and cover everything. Sounds good, I think I would like to make a rom myself.

If they are long there might be a reason, like, because those steps are actually needed to cook a ROM?
Maybe you could do the effort of reading the tutorials instead of asking someone to "donate" you 10x more of their own time to rewrite something just for you when everything's already there...
u CAN NOT recoock any wm6.5 ROM
u can coock one u self and put inside whatever u want .
ALL NEW ROMS are protected for recoocking by the new basic tool from BEPE .
bye
Your best bet would be too watch the videos in the wiki. They are stright forward and very easy to follow, and if that is too much , you should not be cooking roms for your phone. When I first started cooking, I had a hard time following the text walkthrough untill I found the videos. Maybe you can talk to one of the cooks that have released a 6.5 rom and see if they will help you.

I was asking for help, I know tutorial are there, and I have read it, I am very sure, not many people have time to experiment. All I am asking for is how to insert tracking software in Cooked Rom, thats in easy step, without getting in to changes to the Chefs Rom. Only thing added to the Rom will be the tracking Software.
Hi! I'd like to know if it is possible to modify an OEM package on a rom. I'm not sure this is how it's called. What I mean is that i'd like to remove some programs that are automatically installed after a new rom is installed (when winmo launches for the first time).. like the custom taskbar or the 4 rows in the start menu..
Actually, i already dumped some roms but then i don't really know how to recombine the files, also don't know nothing about signing, unsigning them and can't qite figure why some programs are asking for bin files instead of nbh (or nbf)
Thanks in advance for your time
id also like to know please :].
maybe someone can create a video? that would be a good way to help others with clarity..
well, seems to be quite a difficult task.. i figured the cook has to provide his ERV file for us to be able to modify his rom (even for a slight modification...) tough luck it is :s
There are quite a few kitchen thread for rhodium! Have you searched and looked? I dont think I understand what you say anyways!!
Look for the kitchen here, and read the thread. Most of your questions has been answered in this forum oneway or the other.
Are you using a kitchen now? If so, what is it? And why not ask for help in the kitchen thread?
Could someone point me int the right direction for cooking my own rom??? Programs, tool info etc...

Here's a kitchen by JackWater. I'm not a cook, but I would like to learn in the future, too.
I'm not sure if that helped or not.
...Just found this. I'll bookmark that! It seems promising!
I hope the latter helps a lot.

Just make sure the kitchen isn't only for CDMA! Make sure it can spit out a GSM ROM, too!
Good luck, new-found chef!
Hi I am trying to learn how to do this. I am trying to use the rollup builds from Da_g
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445
but I do not know what to do with it. It seems like all the folders are just thrown together in one archive. When I am looking at the extracted HTC ROM they are separated. I am looking at some guides but they are a little confusing. One PDF says "Copy the build folder (23022 shown above) into the Kitchen\SYS folder" but the folders in the rollup archive are not arranged in the same way at all to what is already in there.
Any pointers?
EDIT: Nevermind I found the Dump Sorter program, very handy.
