Is there any way to add shortcuts to the WM6.5 start menu without reinstalling the programs? On my SD card i have a few applications that i installed several ROM's ago (like Targus & Garmin) that run perfectly but do not show up on the start menu. Its a bit of a pain to always click through to their location via total commander/file explorer though.. surely there must be some way to manually insert them into the start menu/programs tab of Manilla 2.1? Im currently using EnergyROM Genesis if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!
not sure about wm6.5 but all other wm's if you put shortcuts in \windows\start menu\programs
they show up there

Navigate to the exe of the program you want (usually in Program Files) with Total Commander.
Then select the exe file and hit file and then the option that has all the >>> on it. Then hit create shortcut. The either type \Windows\Start Menu\Programs or locate it using the tree function.

Hi!
I am trying to find a list of programs launch names and the path so that I can set up short cuts.
The reason I ask is that not all file names are obvious !! I also think short cut links can be chosen to launch a program.
For example,
Pocket word - device/wndows/pword.exe
Pocket excel - device/windows/pxl.exe
Pocket Powerpoint device/windows/ppt.exe
WM Player device/windows/wmplayer.exe
TCPMP device/programs/TCPMP/player.exe
Sprite Backup device/programs/Sprite Backup/Sprite Backcup. exe
Does anyone know of a list of this anywhere? Yes, I have searched..
I also appreciated the path of installed applications depends on what was chosen, phone memory or memory card..
device/storage card/Program Files/Resco explorer/Resco Explorer.exe
Thanks very much!

Can't see this path of my TyTn II
will keep on with the trial and success approach.

Since everyone can install different software - Install Total Commander (free), select your favorite shortcut, look at properties, and go to the "Shortcut" tab. You'll find the path to any application on your phone there.
The path to all the shortcuts is \Windows\Start Menu\Programs if it's like 99% of all the installations out there.
But to be a bit more on topic - Messaging is \Windows\tmail.exe on the TyTN II.
PerfAlbion,
thanks very much ! I will get Total Commander and try that.

check this out, it has parameters too:

Tryed this on my Tilt and so far it seems to run fine with no problems. It replaces/adds functionally to the start button on the main screen. Has alot of options to customize it also. Its freeware.Simply make a folder called quickmenu in your programs dir, and add the files and click to run it.
ya, been using it myself. I like it. it's a lot like Windows XPs start menu
I love how it adds a % to the topbar battery icon, no more guessing from the stupid bars anymore.
i use SPB pocket plus which adds a few pixel bar across the top. I prefer that spot that quick menus battery takes for HTC task manager. it's a preference thing though.
can you post a screen shot of what this looks like? Thanks
The author has a thread going in the hacking forum on xda:

I just noticed that.
Once you try it out you wont go back to the standard wm6 menu button. Infact you can run both at once if you want just click on "start" for the original menu, or the little windows icon next to it for this quick menu.
QuickMenu is fantastic
Long ago I used to use SmallMenu. It was too slow though, for some reason. I have been using QuickMenu for a couple of weeks and I cannot live witout it! In fact I thought Microsoft was going to build something like this into WM6, and was very surprised they didn't bother...
This is freeware from China. I have version 2.7.387.1527. The web site for this software is:
http://www.alensw.com
What version was posted here? And where can we get a version that will be upgraded in the future, and could have an english web site? I guess you could use google to translate the above web page...
i'm having trouble getting this to work on my tilt, i cant get the file to open and install, any suggestions?

Download zip from first post
unzip the 4 files in it
put the 4 files in a folder on your tilt (make a folder in "program files" called quickmenu)
browse to the exe and tap on it
should work just fine. You will not see anything setup on your ppc. After thats done just click on the windows start icon (upper left corner) and the smaller menu should appear all installed and ready to go.
It is not a pc setup program, the exe is already in ppc format and ready to run on your ppc.

Hi,
I just installed SKTools and tried to free up some memory. After I ran it and it "cleaned" up certain things - I noticed that I lost my whole Java section on the phone.
The java section meaning the application needed to launch the various Java apps.
I really don't use the many Java apps, the only one I use on a daily basis is the Gmail app for Java.
How do I get this feature back...
help!
Recreate your java.exe shortcut from \Windows into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
and DON'T USE SKTools to clean ever again.
If this is too hard to figure out, hard-reset.
thanks i will try this immediately

oh okay thanks...
This happened to me too but no need to panic. All SK Tools does is remove the shortcut as it sees it as a "redundant" shortcut for some reason. SKTools has probably removed some other shortcuts too which you will only realise when you need to run that particular app!!!
I use Total Commander v2.5 (Freeware & latest version) to recreate shortcut. You need to make all files in ROM visible first in Total Commander, then you go to Windows and find the java executable and create a shortcut which you then place in the Windows/Start/Programs directory.
VOILA!!
This sould sort it out.
NEVER use SKTools to do a system "clean" as this will always happen.
Im trying to figure out how to make a shortcut in windows mobile 6.1... My device is loaded with them... just cant figure out how to create one.
Never Mind got it although its a complicated affair of copying a shortcut on my Kaiser to my windows desktop and editing the location in notepad
This might be a tad easier friend.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms838634.aspx
It says WM2002 but its the same universally
1. Use activesync
2. Browse from "My Computer" to the mobile device
3. Right click an app/file and select "Create Shortcut"
4. Cut the shortcut and move it anywhere you would like by pasting it
Not that bad really
another possible way is it to use total commander, a freeware file manager for your mobile that allows you to create shortcuts

When I click Programs on my start menu, the device just returns to the TouchFlo home screen. The settings link works fine.
Any idea what has gone wrong and how to fix it?
Programs menu...
Has the 'Programs' shortcut menu ever worked?
If so, it sounds like the folder may have been deleted or moved. Use a file explorer application and browse to 'Windows\Start Menu' - does this folder contain a 'Programs' folder?

It used to work fine and yes, Windows\Start Menu container a Programs folder.
When I double-tap it to open it in Total Commander, it opens in Total Commander absolutely fine and all my shortcuts are in there as expected.
One thing I notice though it may mean nothing is that unlike my Games sub-folder it has no icon.lnk file. As I say, that could mean nothing!
It appears that Programs in the start menu is a kind of default thing in Windows mobile, is there a reg setting that may have got screwed?
Thanks for the help. Anything else to suggest?
Rename the troublesome Programs folder in start menu to something else like Programs2. Next make a new folder and cut and paste all the shortcuts in the Programs2 folder into the new folder. Finally delete the original Programs2 folder. So you have made a new Programs folder. Let me know if that works.

Thanks for the idea. I have tried that but get exactly the same result.
One discovery I made is that if I disable the enlarged start menu, the Programs link works fine!
Anyway, if there are no more ideas from anyone, I fear a hard reset could be in order.
Thanks
Ahh shucks! Sorry it didn't work. I suggested it because I had the sae problem. I made a new folder in Start Menu called Phone and it stopped opening after a while. I did the trick above and it works fine now.
See I have unchecked favourite apps from showing in start menu by unchecking them in the Menu option in Settings. Instead, I created folders in the Start Menu folder, such as Internet, Media, Travel, Office, Games, System, Audio etc and copied the relevant shortcuts from progam folder to the new folders. So when I hit start menu from my home page, I get a drop down list of folders only. Much better in my opinion.

Interesting way of organising your Start Menu.
However, I would probably forget in which folders I put the apps! I quite like the Programs list - it does exactly what I want - so thats why I will just stick with that. I was actually wondering if there was a way of making that Programs folder look better - for instance removing the scrollbars or something. Just a nicer looking program launcher really, but as I say, I like the way it works for me.
Anyway, thanks very much for the help. The programs link is a special link of some sort I reckon, hence your fix didnt work. I think I will upgrade my ROM and do a hard reset!
