Xperia Bluetooth problems :P - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have an xperia, and I have a new JVC Bluetooth deck, I was so impressed how flawlessly it worked with my old phone the Kaiser/tilt, but to my surprise I have not been able to get it to properly pair up with my newer xperia. They will read each other and try to connect but I always end up getting an error. Sometimes it still shows up as connected but nothing works. I used my kaiser/tilt for both calls and streaming music through my new JVC bluetooth deck and I loved it, so its pretty dissapointing when I upgrade to what is/was one of the hottest & expensive windows mobile phones and it apparently has bluetooth issues.
I tried a few fixes already like changing the registry to read as a normal phone and I added in a missing bt profile, unfortunately nothings changed. I am curious tho because i had a magician and they had whole bt stacks that I messed around with, and I'm also wondering if a flash or two of a new rom may make a difference. Ocerall I'm really happy with the X1 (unlike my tilt/kaiser which had lots of problems) so much so that I don't really feel the need to flash a new rom, but if it might have a chance of fixing my bt I'm all for it.
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions, tia.

Tilt Bluetooth audio works on AVIC D3 but not BT phone

having trouble getting my Pioneer AVIC D3 to connect with the bluetooth on my Tilt; the bluetooth audio works just fine, but i cannot make or recieve calls on the Navi system and its pissing me off. i already made sure the device is visible and bluetooth sharing is turned on (idk if i need it on but trying this anyways)
anyone else have a similar problem or a suggestion?
ugh, i want an AVIC so bad. but my truck is only 1.5 din. wold require a custom install
My silly thoughts:
1. Your Tilt doesn't need to be discoverable, you AVIC does.
2. If the AVIC doesn't show under settings-connections-bluetooth, then you haven't created a proper partnership.
3. If it does show there, then you should tap & hold that entry and see if you get "Set Headset" or "Set Handsfree". If you don't then the device isn't reporting a BT profile for phone use to the Tilt.
If you go through all of that and it doesn't work, I'd check with Pioneer for software/firmware upgrades for the AVIC. It may be an issue that they've fixed with updated code.
bump, tried the above with no luck. my sony S710a works fine and this is REALLY pissing me off; i spent almost $500 on the phone and another 1,000 on the damn navi system, if this doesnt work out soon im selling the Tilt and going back to the Sony
It is more of a problem with the pioneer unit rather then the phone. I have the tilt (flashed to htc) and have a problem of auto pairing. Everytime I get in the car I have to turn bluetooth off/on to get the deck (9800bt) to see the phone. This is something pioneer knows about a realesd a patch for the avic z2 (is that right) to fix the problem.
check this place out for more info (sorry don't have a direct link)

thanks im a member at avic411 as well as here and have had no success thus far; looks like SIM swapping with my Sony S710a is the best i can do. too bad because skipping songs or going thru my playlists via bluetooth is freakin sweet.
yah, i have the avic-d3 and the att/tilt, im so almost about to take the phone back. Even my crappy iphone paired withno issue. Please post if you figure it out.
Sad to see there has been no progress. I just got my new Kaiser, and I can only use it for bluetooth music and not as hands free with Avic D3. What a piss offf!!!!!!!!!!
I believe its a conflict with WM. I have the Pioneer 6800DVD and bt adapter and the same issue with my Treo 750 and Tilt.
I was able to get it to work on my treo using a bt program called jetware. I haven't tried it on my tilt yet. but it might work
I can confirm that the Jetware patch works great with my Tilt! You MUST uncheck bluetooth stereo (on your tilt) and only use the handsfree feature.

Enable A2DP and/or headset profile for Tilt...

Hello everyone...sorry for bothering, but I'm so frustrated that I'm about to scream...I really need some help here.
I have an AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) running their standard ROM. I just bought a Motorola H780 bluetooth headset for it. The salesperson said that he knew of some people who connected this model to their Tilts and was able to listen to music through it...and even on earpiece box it says that the H780 supports both the Hands Free and Headset profiles. However, I have not been able to accomplish this: it pairs for normal use (phone calls, etc), but nothing else. The "wireless headset" option is greyed out for me; the earpiece only gives me the option to connect using "Hands Free" profile.
I have looked...and looked...and looked for how to do this. The best I found from Google was for people who have Windows Mobile 5 (I have 6)...and even so, I tried a couple of those registry tweaks. On here, I keep running into countless forums that tell you, not how to enable A2DP, but how to improve it (using modified bitpool value in the registry, etc). Can SOMEBODY PLEASE tell me how in the world to get this working? I would really appreciate it...THANKS!
Well this is how i do it. I downloaded this http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware
that is the page then you get a2dp toggle
and then when my bluetooth is on the the headset is on i then go to this program and double click it and it puts another icon by the bluetooth icon and i get sound that way for my music and also calls still come threw too. I am not saying this is the right way but it works great for me...
bluetooth toggle
bluetooth toggle turns on the headset (single ear normal everyday talking sets) like a speakerphone.
all audio will get directed to it, im, e-mail, meeting announcements.
I had a sony headset model, with 12 talk time, nice because it will eat your battery while on ( tilt and headsets rated for talktime will apply to this ) . my plantronics only does 4 hours, so at lunch or when not in use I charge it and phone via usb cable.
I am in IT and most peaple are ok with me wearing bt headset (plantronics 655) and write me off on the gadget side when I wear it 24/7. In reality I listen to music (10% volume on audiomanager) all day (literally) from my 8 gig card.
I have streaming and resco radio, and podcasts. Mostly I converted my common mp3s to wma to have more on the phone and high audio cd quality is not to be expected over bluetooth. The right rom and radio are very helpful and the ability to tun off screen but still play music are all important or battery will suffer even more. using the stock rom and radio will work, just not a good balance team.
duttys roms and a few others had it included btw. I found a way to use audiomanager 1.2 on the new roms with 1 registry setting change to allow suspend mode.
I use a very simple version of it. I attached it because, I searched a bit to find a link, (still recommended for education on the subject) but didn't find it or in the chefs and mods downloads either.
Thanks to both of you for your responses! I appreciate someone taking the time out to help.
Blinkste21957, I tried your solution and it didn't work...for some reason, it saw my headset as being "unusable" (my term) with regards to headset mode. I don't quite know why; my headset clearly says on the box that it is. (Motorola H780). This is why I think that there must be something missing on my phone that will enable the "headset" option for my earpiece.
Acehole, I tried your solution a while back...but it was with the 8525, not the tilt, and with my (previous) plantronics headset. I was less-than-impressed with the problems I had to deal with last time...but I could give it a whirl again with this phone/headset and see what happens.
If anyone knows of anything else I'm missing in terms of "activating" the headset capabilities of my phone (which I thought was supposed to have A2DP), let me know. I'm just very puzzled why, for an earpiece that supports headset mode, my phone would have that option unavailable.
Actually, I think that it is the phone and not the headset. When I had a nokia I was able to listen to music via my bluetooth with no issues. The tilt will not allow you to do this without the use of a third party application. The following is what many people have used and are using as a work around. BTAudio, BlueMusic, A2DPToggle. Tech soft makes BlueMusic and the A2DPToggle and can be found here: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=products. Unless one of the bright developers here on XDA takes this on, I fear that it will never truly be resolved.
Thanks ACEHOLE.. I was struggling with my iMate.
Someone on here recommended the Sony DR-BT22 some time ago. I bought a pair and they link up and sound is impressive on the Tilt with Windows 6.1
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8458466&st=bluetooth&type=product&id=1184369168158
I can also control forward and reverse functions of the player with them too.
Bluetooth - especially compatibility - is still one temperamental beast! My car's built-in hand-free made me and the poor guy from AT&T a believer. They can plaster A2DP, HSF, HDP, ESP, JMDP, whatever on the box and it it means squat as to whether it will work or not. Only ones that do are manufacturer-to-manufacturer....sometimes.
Mack
If you have WM 6.1, and if you have a headset with the A2DP profile (NOTE this is not the same as the "headset" profile) then you can listen to music without any problem. If you don't have both, then you need to mess with the software add-ons mentioned earlier in this thread .
As for me, I got the excellent Jabra BT8040 and it works great with My Kaiser with stock 6.1. Only about $30 too.

Bluetooth connection issues

[/B]Hi, just received my TD2 last week and is enjoying it. I have one major issue though. In my car I have a Pioneer AVIC X3 system including GPS, AV and BT. Its the one with the motorized monitor.
Unfortunately it seems that HTC has chosen a different type of BT that is NOT compatible with my Pioneer system.
Does anyone know of any fixes ?
Maybe you can draw more attention to your thread by adding an appropriate title. Good luck finding a solution!
I had a very high end pioneer, never again.
With mine, the problem was that the pioneer won't recognise PDAs, but it will recognise Smartphones and mobile phones. (Each bluetooth device broadcasts what type of device it is.)
I actually told pioneer the problem, how to fix it, and their support would only say "your phone is not on the supported device list". After i put the effort in to help them improve their systems dramatically, they couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge it / forward it to the development people.... so I spent £600 on a kenwood, worked like a charm, Kenwood's bluetooth modules are made by parrot. (also the £70 kenwood I also have works great too)
There are some registry edits that work to make your phone identify itself as a smartphone, as long as it has the MS bluetooth stack, not sure the exact details though, I've not needed to do that since I got rid of the pioneer.
Hi Trinode,
Thanks a lot for your comments. If I was to try the registry edit thing... would you know a link somewhere where I can get this information ? Otherwise I'm probably forced to change the Pioneer system also.

Bluetooth nexus one connecting to Renault carkit

I recently got my new Renault Scenic car and discovered a rather strange situation.
The phone pairs with the carkit and connects the first time without issues and works like a charm.
But however when I start the car and thus also the carkit the phone connects also but no audio is heared trough the carkit when calling or getting called. The phone says it transfers the connection to the carkit but nothing is heared.
It only works when I have bluetooth off, starts the car and then turning bluetooth on the phone on. Wait till it connects and make a call. With this procedure the connection is good till I step out the car.
Its a work around but hmmm not the one i would love to.
I have a nexus one rooted with the latest MCR (21) and an intersect kernel. Though I tried different kernels also but no go.
Hopefully one of you guys have an idea
Ok I searched a bit and found out the Bluetooth is done with the opensource code Bluez. So I wonder which version of Bluez is in the froyo roms and how it can be updated if possible to a new version.
Anyone knows ?
I feel your pain, I have a Renault Grand Scenic III (purchased last December) and the hands-free is unreliable, but music streaming (A2DP) is even worse as most often than not it will fail to connect.
I have to say that the hands-free works fine most of the times (for the phone part, not for music), but some days it will refuse to work no matter what. Since it isn't working much better with my wife's Nokia (BTW, which I had to do a firmware update or else it went into a permanent reboot loop when connected to the car-kit), I assume the problem lies on the car, not on the phone. I have yet to see if my Hero, which has been recently updated to Android 2.1, behaves any better. A firmware update on the Bluetooth car-kit seems a better approach, but I'm unaware if one exists since after some digging it seems my car doesn't use the OEM Parrot kit that other earlier models carried.

Hi,
I've just come across your post. Did the situation improve ?
I'd just point out that for me it comes from the Android system : I own a Renault Mégane 3 and was able to fully use the bluetooth system with my HTC HD2 (Windows Mobile 6.5). Now, I've just installed Android 2.2 on it and I encounter a similar behavior... and the car can't connect to the phone directory either...
Looks like I'll boot back on Windows Mobile when driving...
Regards,
Stéphane
My Hero with the official 2.1 ROM is now 100% reliable. The Nexus One with Froyo isn't, A2DP is still hit & miss.
Well... I'm getting the same but not with Renault ones.
I have LiquidAUX on my car and to have both phone and a2dp synced, I have to restart phone BT and LiquidAUX every time I go into car. And most of the times I can only have 1 connection each time, or phone is on and a2dp is off or a2dp is on and phone is off. It's really annoying since I had an HTC Hero with Android 2.2 and it used to work with no problems...
Hello, I've the same issue with my new Renault and Nexus LG. The phone pairs with the carkit and connects the first time without issues and works like fine. Once someone calls, the connection is terrible or lost! I checked the phone compatibility list at Reanoult and the NEXUS LG is on that list. So it should work. Updated R-link2, same issue. I went to the Renault garage and they told me that this is a bug in the Renault software, they can't do anything about it. Can't believe this, there should be a solution or fix.

Bluetooth Auto Connect

Hi,
I bought a Bluetooth Car Stereo. I've paired it and it pairs fine. When I connect it, it works great and IF I leave BT permanently on, it automatically connects when I sit in the car. If I disable bluetooth to conserve battery, upon re-enabling it, it DOES NOT automatically connect. Instead, I have to go Settings, Wireless, Bluetooth and press Connect manually.
Is there no way of making my phone automatically scan or check or whatever? I'm pretty sure my old Nokia could connect automatically, in fact I'll test now!
Thanks,
Joe
Anyone? Perhaps an app you can recommend?
Bluetooth Autoconnect (by WestOneTech) ... but it's not free ...
Okay. I flashed MIUI MintBerry Edition, and guess what? It allows automatic reconnecting on bluetooth enable. So I know for a fact this isn't some android limitation and it's definitely a setting or config of some sort in SGS firmware.
There has to be a way in which this can be fixed on a stock rooted ROM.
Any help would be smashing!
That happens to me with my samsung gt-s5560 witch is a rather crappy phone. I need to manually tell the phone to connect with my car, even if it's paired and set to auto permit.
On my SGS with ICS EliteRom 1.2, however, it works perfectly. Connects automatically whenever i have bluetooth on (either if it was on before being in range or if i connect while i'm in range).
Bluetooth works as handsfree for calls - from the car interface the phone allows to take and place calls, browse through recent and lost calls, phonebook (it even downloads it) and it even streams music to my car's speakers (using Google Music) with no additional configs.
It connects rather fast, like 3 or 4 seconds after turning BT on.
Exactly Kayn and that is why I can't understand why the stock room doesn't do this and more to the point why nobody has raised this issue before. I like the stock ROM. I genuinely do. I find it intuitive. So why can't it automatically connect to my car stereo when Bluetooth is switched on. This custom ROM has no problem doing it. I simply switch on Bluetooth and boom it connects. I need that functionality on the stock ROM if possible
Im going to flash the newest value pack tomorrow and see if that helps but I doubt it will. I genuinely believe this is an issue with the stock ROM. The only thing that might have caused it if the stock ROM does support it, is if I've removed something using TiBa but I very much doubt it. I didn't touch any core system components.
Haven't flashed the latest value pack but I've worked out how to make it work. Ridiculous on Samsungs part and I think they need to get their heads out of their arses and sort it.
If I activate Bluetooth before I turn on my car stereo, then it picks it up perfectly.
So if I turn on my car stereo and then switch on bluetooth... doesn't work.
If I turn on bluetooth then switch on my car stereo... works fine.
Absolute joke on Samsungs part that this glitch is the only way I can get it to work. I'll keep investigating and I'll eventually write a guide to help people with it.

Makes us both but i can't really cope with the battery drainage when the phone's plugged during several hours (i use loads of battery intensive like torrent-downloading apps, radio streaming, etc and the phone needs to be plugged) so i had to make the change for some custom non-samsung based rom.
Samsung has loads of this minor quirks that make the experience that much less enjoyable. I only found solution in custom roms (very thankful to the devs for that!). Don't think they ever really cared about solving some under-the-hood issues (they did add some new features though) and even went as far as to pull the "flawed by design" apple-move.
I would still tell you to give a shot at customs, some out there are really good, but i can understand not wanting to change something we really like.
Good luck with that mate!
It's not that I don't like custom ROMs, I love custom ROMs but unfortunately, none of them have the Samsung Browser and let's be honest, everyone knows the best Android browser is the stock Samsung one. The browser that came with MIUI was very choppy and laggy.
I get decent battery life out of my stock ROM, but if I had to leave BT on permanently this would go down a lot! I suppose i just need to remember that as I get into my car, turn on BT and it'll connect first time.
Just crap that other Custom ROMs can search on enable and connect. Worst still, I can't believe we're the only ones who have this issue.
I never thought samsung browser was something that good, i hardly even see it being mentioned. I never really used it much since i have not used sammy's roms since ginger bread came out, but have you tried opera mobile? This is, by far, the best browser I've used, it's not even fair to compare - it's on a totally different league. I was actually losing hope of decent browsing (tried just about anything) on Android until i came across opera. Needs to be the mobile and not the mini. Faith in Android browsing restored
if you haven't, give it a shot, free on market. If that's the main reason not to use a custom rom, you may be changing your mind soon
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I am having just the opposite issue, I have a bluetooth headset that auto connects every time it's in range if I want it to or not, I'm running a stock rooted room kitkat on an old Nexus 7
