Hi All,
originally postedv this on CMs experimental thread but may be better suited here
Ok - so i started with CM 4.1.10.1 and tried to flash to 4.1.11.1
I reformatted sd and ext2 partitions - wiped - placed zip file on sd - and flashed - update gave successful message and i rebooted but cannot get past the G1 boot screen
On adb lolcat i am stuck in a loop as follows

I have retried with clearing all caches including dalvik - basically started with a totally clean sd card and a wipe of the phone but still get stuck - have tried both CMupdater and "regular" flash of zip - have tried wiping and not wiping
have gone back to 4.0.4 stable and tried all the above again but still get stuck
i can flash 4.1.10.1 with no problems - bugging the hell outa me why 4.1.11.1 wont boot up
I am currently on 4.1.10.1 as per signature - i am at the end of my tether with it
my real concern is i wont be able to flash future updates
any suggestions would be really appreciated
Thanks...
there was a guy a while back with this problem for one of cyanogen's rom, daneshm9 (or something like that). he has a thread somewhere in the Q&A section about his problem (which appears to be very similar to yours)
from what they gathered it was a kernel panic. there was just the one version he could not flash for anything, he could flash older versions but it was just that one that wouldn't work ( he did get it working with someone elses nandroid of it, but could not flash the rom itself and get it to work)
if you can find the thread, you can pm the guy to find out if his issue ever got resolved and if he is able to flash later versions of cynogen's rom.
sorry i don't have any more info than that
edit: saw the guys user name in another thread its daneshm90
Hey, lol. I never got it resolved so i returned my g1 and bought a magic instead. Yea c if someone wud b nice enough to send u a nandroid of a wiped 4.1.11.1 and then try that.
Thanks mate - unfortunately I cant return my G1 - bought it off the net as we dont have T-Mobile available here in Ireland.
Is there any kind soul out there who would be willing to do as suggested and send me a copy of a working nandroid backup of CM 4.1.11.1 so I can try to get myself out of this mess
Please Please help me out - i'm dying here...lol

alright there mate
i feel your pain LOL
it would help if you posted what Rom/radio/spl / sd/ ext
that you are using - did you get a nandroid backup etc
makes it easier for the experts to help you out
suggest you add the info in your signature
also what you were doing with the phone when it happened -
can you hook it up to ur pc and see what the lolcat is showing
the more info you can provide the better to get some help
@cqms13 i am uploading the files right now to send you.
@kosj4f if you are trying 4.1.11.1 i will send them to you too, if you can't get it working.
Back in the Land of the living !!! yippee

I just got my phone back from HTC (wifi wnt on it and a battery leak tons of fun). I've been able to root the phone and get the new radio, SPL, and latest JF build on the phone but for some reason I can't get any other build on there that works. All the Hero builds seem to be force closingg during the HTC setup wizard right before it starts to sync so I can't get into the build, and all non hero builds freeze at the G1 T-Mobile screen.
I've tried formatting and reformatting my phone but nothing seems to work. I was going to test out the swapper builds so I just created a swapper partition (tried Paragon, Gparted, and the built in G parted for my ext2/3 and swapper partitions). Then I tried removing the swap partition and I still can't get any builds other than the JF builds to work. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on or having similar issues?
Update:
Solved the problem by using ADB to push the /system/framework and /system/lib from the latest Cyanogen build. Immediately afterwards I updated to that same version of Cyan's and it finally went past the T-Mobile Screen and after taking a fairly long time it booted. Initially I got this weird error where the screen was clearly on (could turn volume up and down) but the screen was black. From there I did a wipe and ran the update one more time and it went through perfectly and now I'm running cyan's latest build.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and assistance. The builds were all hanging because it couldn't overwrite certain files in system and framework but its functioning now so thats all that matters. Thanks again!
Did you wipe before you update? You should have a fresh ext2/3 before flashing.
Yes I've tried wiping and doing non-wiped installs both land me in the same spot though. I've also formatted my ext 2 tried using ext 3 and removing and keeping the swap partition. I am using the stock sdcard too btw.
have you tried going through the htc setup wizard without turning on wifi because turning on wifi whhen the pop-up appears is said to sometimes fc the process?
I believe this is not a development forum question. I think you should read over everything carefully. If you did indeed root your phone right and have some basic idea of what you are doing then you should NOT have too many problems. If you are going from one build to another I would suggest doing a wipe. Other than that everything you said is kinda vague.

I had a similar problem but only with Hero builds and not letting it turn on Wifi stopped the forceclose/reboot.
That it won't let you use other google based builds is very peculiar.

I never turn on the wifi during the setup it doesn't usually ask me either. I'm in a constant 3G surrounding so I never use the wi-fi to be honest.

I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum but I figured this is where I am most of the time and I see a lot of questions answered here. Anyway I used to be a flash junkie and I've used every build on the forums until my phone broke and I had to send it in for repairs. Unfortunately since I had my board replaced I've been running into problems. I have a PVT board for the record not a DVT which has been a problem in the past with the new SPL. I never had issues until I got my phone repaired but I didn't want to rule out the new partitoning of my card. Since my last post I've tried removing all the partitions and just going to single FAT32 partition and I still can't seem to get any builds (more specifically I've been trying latest Dudes, Cyanogen, JACHero, and JACHeroski builds.) As for being vague the problem to me is kind of vague. I'm tried so many different avenues trying to narrow the problem down to the card or the builds but it starting to lean toward the board being the problem here. I'll give any specifics just tell me what you wanna know.
try flashing the rom, then remove the sd before restarting, put it back in once the phone has completed setup wizard.
I believe that new board = new (to you) radio and SPL. ie, the old (stock) SPL, and possibly the old radio. boot it into the SPL and check ur versions.
personally if i got a new board i would start from square one. flash to RC29, root hack, radio/SPL update then ROM update. the works. if that doesnt fix your issue, well then i dunno.
EDIT: I believe this would explain why you're able to flash JF, but not others. JF doesn't require the custom SPL (pretty sure), whereas most others do.

stock sd card may be the problem. some of the ones that shipped with the phone were not of highest quality (mine sucked, and after a couple of weeks died completely)

Thats exactly what I did as soon as I got back that was the only way to get root on the phone that I knew of. I did it a few times but I still kept getting stuck on the Tmobile G1 screen when upgrading to any of the differnet mods.

Tried this and unfortunately it didn't work. as for my Phone type, SPL and Radio I have the following :
I'm using DREAM PVT 32b Eng S-OFf
Hboot-1.33.2005 (DREA100000)
Radio-2.22.19.26I
I grabbed the log from my phone for anyone that knows what this stuff means (btw this is right after updating to the newest cyanogen build 3.6.6.

Thank you everyone for your help so far.
It may be an odd suggestion, but try flashing JF RC-33. Ive had a somewhat similar problems with versions of TheDude's cupcake where it would one day just suddenly bootloop, and would keep doing it even if I wiped and flashed it 1000 times, but oddly enough, flashing RC-33 and then flashing another rom (Dude's in this case) would work. It may be worth a shot.
I tried flashing down but its still the same situation where I can only use JF builds now everything is giving me dalvik-vm errors in logcat as well as core.jar in the /system/framework errors. I'm trying to get there.
good day, I installed Cyanogen v4.0.2 a couple of days ago. I have restarted the phone 3 times and each time I restart the phone, it gets stuck on the android logo screen and I end up having to wipe and reinstall.
I searched and have found a couple of people with the same problem but no solution. Does anybody have a solution to this problem? thanks a lot.

Are you running a2ssd? if so then try fixing permissions, if that fails format your sd card (at least ext partition).
Easiest way to tell if your card is corrupted is to try booting without it.
Good luck.

thanks for your response. I haven't dl'd a2ssd because I thought with Cyanogen 4 it automatically saves apps to sd?
I tried restarting my phone with and without the sd card in it.
Also before I rooted I did fat32 with my 2gb sd card. thanks for any help.

CM roms (and any roms) will do apps to sd only if you have secondary partition (ext2, ext3 or ext4). If you did not partition your card then you don't have apps on sd and they are all in your internal memory.
Run logcat and post it here... hard to say what's causing it without seeing a log. Most of the time it will loop because of corrupt partition on sd card but it's clearly not the case here.
One more thing that you can try is restart in recovery and run these commands
mount data
rm -r data/dalvik-cache
mkdir data/dalvik-cache
reboot
This will clear out all odex files and force android to re-optimize all apps. It may or may not sort things out.
i ran logcat and it's several pages of logs, i saved it, but can't find it when i mount sd to post it, do I post the entire log, it's pretty long. I'm going to work so it may be 10 hours before I can respond, but I'll try to check on lunch, thanks.

hmmm even that sounds too long... I've never had it booting for longer then 2 min on CM roms and longer then 4-5 min for Hero roms but everyone's mileage may vary.
As for the log.... once you find it - post it on pastebin.com or something like that or even here (just attach it instead of pasting it due to the size)

thanks for all the responses, my when i have restarted the phone it hangs on the android logo for over 20 minutes, i restart and it does the same so i end up wiping and reinstalling Cyanogen 4.
Borodin, i run logcat, then I save the log, but can't find the log on my phone. thanks
not sure... I usually just email it to myself if I run log app.

i just restarted for the 4th time and its stuck on the android logo for the past 30 minutes, one time it got past the android and went to a black screen and it stayed there for 15minutes before i took the battery out.
What's the state of your SD? (what partitions do you have)
If your ext is clean and you're wiping before each flash then there should be no looping.
Hey guys,
Been beating my head against this for weeks. (see the history of my lament here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597987)
This all happened after I installed Android 2.0 EOSP and death SPL.
I'm unable flash new roms, I get the below error loop (see code) whenever I try and install cyanogen mod (yes I'm doing it properly as I've done it 30 times before).
I've tried a goldcard.
I've tried all the perfected SPL tricks outlined here to no avail (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=570659 &
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019)
I've tried:
Engineering SPL 1.33.2010
Engineering SPL 1.33.2009
Engineering SPL 1.33.2005
Engineering SPL 1.33.2004
Engineering SPL 1.33.2004 by Crios
The only two things I can do are restore 1 single nandroid (I have like 6, only one works) or sappimg.nbh.
My phone is a MT3G, it IS rooted.

wow im impressed you tried every SPL in the book and havent bricked your phone lol.
anyway the best SPL for mytouch 3g is 1.33.2005, make sure its the engineering SPL (This one)
then try flashing a rom again.
also it would help to post the info on your bootloader menu ( all the stuff on top)

So far EVERYTHING I've tried other than sappimg.nbh Or one of my nandroid restores, I get the boot error loop that I listed above.
well install the 2005 spl to be sure, go into recovery, wipe data, format sd card, and flash a fresh rom.
I did that after your post. Still get the same error.
Any other ideas?
I also tried this with a brand new SD card.

no idea if this will work, but it won't do any harm to clear cache
( I see no mention of it above )
if you haven't already use the wipe dalvik-cache option in RA-1.5.2 ( or current version ) and reboot ( back button and choose option )
if you have tried this then try manually
drop to recovery console
Code:
mount /cache
rm /cache/dalvik-cache/*
if you get errors post them here
if not reboot
Code:
reboot
if that doesn't work...
go back into recovery
use all of the wipe options ( data/factory, dalvik-cache, sd:ext )
reflash, reboot
if that doesn't work I tried my best, but no harm in posting any observations you may have made while trying
"When the DEX file is created, the file header is first filled with
0xff. Then the rest of the file is written, and finally the header is
written. So, the "incorrect opt magic number" message just means that
a previous run of dexopt failed before the file was completely
written.
What you need to be looking at is the segmentation fault in dexopt.
You've broken something in the VM"
Just got this on google groups, does anyone know what this means?
Was a solution to this problem ever found?
I get this problem nearly every time I flash a ROM, and the way that I fix it is to unzip the ROM, find the "broken" jar file and re-upload it to the phone using adb as per this post by firerat:
Code:
forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2132-need-serious-help-cant-flash-any-cm-build-but-cm-6-nightly-tests/page__view__findpost__p__21040
I hope this helps...
Because I saw often a question about navigon on CM7.
It works!
Found it in CM7 forum:
www.darav.de/android/
Have fun.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunate I still can't get navigon to work.
What version to you use? Navigon 3.5.3? CM7 build from which day?
Could you post logcat output when starting navigon?

Ok. I downloaded 3.5.4 from the internet. Couldn't find it on the market. After it download the additional data it only has German and Austrian maps availabe to use. In the maps folder on my phone I have the Australian maps that I need. Is there a way I can get it to work on the Australian maps?
My phone product code is XEU but original is OPS. If I change that will it help so that it downloads the map I need?
In the app it does have an option to download more maps but I think all that will do is download more EU maps which are useless for me.
Well at least I now know it works, but currently maps are for a different country.

Weird , i flashed recovery again and it work ok
But recovery not important, you can use old recovery to flash ICS_test rom
just for informing i can boot now into ics but flashing and corrupted screen... but i saw it ;-)
for recovery it's really weird cause your last version you posted in zargloub's thread was working flawless for me don't know what could be the problem...
i will post testbuild1 after check a few functions to certain work
P/S : updated #1
hhmm with the kernel in zip i never got past your boot screen 'x1 forever' either i get stuck in there or in white lines during different driver inits or it reboots somewhere there
i tried a kernel i built from a combination of zargloub's and hackun's repo with this i got to the pin request but screen was corrupted and flashing between terminal lines and boot animation / ics pin request...
so far my experiences
EDIT: oh forgot here are keymaps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21956852&postcount=52

you are right .kcm.bin is now .kcm and in java code i will make the maps for you but give me some time it's a hell of work
one time i got a connection via adb and it rebooted after:
Code:
D/dalvikvm( 70): DexOpt: --- BEGIN 'android.policy.jar' (bootstrap=1) ---
afterwards i never got a connection via adb no matter if stuck before boot screen or in it also after fresh installation
and for you it boots every time fine into the rom?

yes ,boot with no fail
When boot screen load ,you must wait a little ,after that type "adb logcat"
you can check partition system by commands "adb shell" after that "df -h system" ,it equal 200mb?
P/S :can you upload your logcat ?
