Constant Soft Bricking on all but JF Builds (Solved) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my phone back from HTC (wifi wnt on it and a battery leak tons of fun). I've been able to root the phone and get the new radio, SPL, and latest JF build on the phone but for some reason I can't get any other build on there that works. All the Hero builds seem to be force closingg during the HTC setup wizard right before it starts to sync so I can't get into the build, and all non hero builds freeze at the G1 T-Mobile screen.
I've tried formatting and reformatting my phone but nothing seems to work. I was going to test out the swapper builds so I just created a swapper partition (tried Paragon, Gparted, and the built in G parted for my ext2/3 and swapper partitions). Then I tried removing the swap partition and I still can't get any builds other than the JF builds to work. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on or having similar issues?
Update:
Solved the problem by using ADB to push the /system/framework and /system/lib from the latest Cyanogen build. Immediately afterwards I updated to that same version of Cyan's and it finally went past the T-Mobile Screen and after taking a fairly long time it booted. Initially I got this weird error where the screen was clearly on (could turn volume up and down) but the screen was black. From there I did a wipe and ran the update one more time and it went through perfectly and now I'm running cyan's latest build.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and assistance. The builds were all hanging because it couldn't overwrite certain files in system and framework but its functioning now so thats all that matters. Thanks again!

Did you wipe before you update? You should have a fresh ext2/3 before flashing.

Yes I've tried wiping and doing non-wiped installs both land me in the same spot though. I've also formatted my ext 2 tried using ext 3 and removing and keeping the swap partition. I am using the stock sdcard too btw.

have you tried going through the htc setup wizard without turning on wifi because turning on wifi whhen the pop-up appears is said to sometimes fc the process?

I believe this is not a development forum question. I think you should read over everything carefully. If you did indeed root your phone right and have some basic idea of what you are doing then you should NOT have too many problems. If you are going from one build to another I would suggest doing a wipe. Other than that everything you said is kinda vague.

I had a similar problem but only with Hero builds and not letting it turn on Wifi stopped the forceclose/reboot.
That it won't let you use other google based builds is very peculiar.

I never turn on the wifi during the setup it doesn't usually ask me either. I'm in a constant 3G surrounding so I never use the wi-fi to be honest.

I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum but I figured this is where I am most of the time and I see a lot of questions answered here. Anyway I used to be a flash junkie and I've used every build on the forums until my phone broke and I had to send it in for repairs. Unfortunately since I had my board replaced I've been running into problems. I have a PVT board for the record not a DVT which has been a problem in the past with the new SPL. I never had issues until I got my phone repaired but I didn't want to rule out the new partitoning of my card. Since my last post I've tried removing all the partitions and just going to single FAT32 partition and I still can't seem to get any builds (more specifically I've been trying latest Dudes, Cyanogen, JACHero, and JACHeroski builds.) As for being vague the problem to me is kind of vague. I'm tried so many different avenues trying to narrow the problem down to the card or the builds but it starting to lean toward the board being the problem here. I'll give any specifics just tell me what you wanna know.

try flashing the rom, then remove the sd before restarting, put it back in once the phone has completed setup wizard.

I believe that new board = new (to you) radio and SPL. ie, the old (stock) SPL, and possibly the old radio. boot it into the SPL and check ur versions.
personally if i got a new board i would start from square one. flash to RC29, root hack, radio/SPL update then ROM update. the works. if that doesnt fix your issue, well then i dunno.
EDIT: I believe this would explain why you're able to flash JF, but not others. JF doesn't require the custom SPL (pretty sure), whereas most others do.

stock sd card may be the problem. some of the ones that shipped with the phone were not of highest quality (mine sucked, and after a couple of weeks died completely)

Thats exactly what I did as soon as I got back that was the only way to get root on the phone that I knew of. I did it a few times but I still kept getting stuck on the Tmobile G1 screen when upgrading to any of the differnet mods.

Tried this and unfortunately it didn't work. as for my Phone type, SPL and Radio I have the following :
I'm using DREAM PVT 32b Eng S-OFf
Hboot-1.33.2005 (DREA100000)
Radio-2.22.19.26I
I grabbed the log from my phone for anyone that knows what this stuff means (btw this is right after updating to the newest cyanogen build 3.6.6.

Thank you everyone for your help so far.

It may be an odd suggestion, but try flashing JF RC-33. Ive had a somewhat similar problems with versions of TheDude's cupcake where it would one day just suddenly bootloop, and would keep doing it even if I wiped and flashed it 1000 times, but oddly enough, flashing RC-33 and then flashing another rom (Dude's in this case) would work. It may be worth a shot.

I tried flashing down but its still the same situation where I can only use JF builds now everything is giving me dalvik-vm errors in logcat as well as core.jar in the /system/framework errors. I'm trying to get there.

Logcat File?

I have been searching around but haven't found the answer. I have got logcat working but I haven't figured out how to make a logcat file to look through on my computer. I found a post that said to type: adb shell logcat > /logcat but the screen just sits there without anything ever happening.
I think it would also be helful for someone to write up a good tutorial on how they use logcat to figure out problems with there phone so people can do more than just come into the rom forums and say they are getting a force close on this app or there is a lot of lag. Those don't help much in figuring out if it is a problem with the rom, the app, or some old apps hanging around causing trouble and time for a wipe.
Have you actually confirmed that ADB is working? Try just typing "adb logcat" and you should get a scrolling log that updates as the phone works on Command Prompt.
Yes that is what I am getting now but I want to output that to a file.
Someone should be able to answer this question for me.
What am I doing wrong?
Nothing. That works fine. You can then go to command prompt menu (right click the title bar I believe) and select "mark". That'll let you select text, then you can use that same menu to copy and paste.
I answered my own question.
You type:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
Then the command prompt screen doesn't appear to be doing anything but it is writing everything to the logcat.txt file which is in the SDK tools folder that you are running the logcat file from.
Now my question is, is it normal to get this Low memory warning. I wouldn't think it would be but I don't know for sure. I do see some background applications that I can get rid of permanantly but is there anything else I can do or I can look for to prevent this. Also to exit the logcat I have just been unplugging the usb cord from the phone, is there some other way to end the command?

Stuck at G1 screen - Help!! [SOLVED]

Hi All,
originally postedv this on CMs experimental thread but may be better suited here
Ok - so i started with CM 4.1.10.1 and tried to flash to 4.1.11.1
I reformatted sd and ext2 partitions - wiped - placed zip file on sd - and flashed - update gave successful message and i rebooted but cannot get past the G1 boot screen
On adb lolcat i am stuck in a loop as follows

have gone back to 4.0.4 stable and tried all the above again but still get stuck
i can flash 4.1.10.1 with no problems - bugging the hell outa me why 4.1.11.1 wont boot up
I am currently on 4.1.10.1 as per signature - i am at the end of my tether with it
my real concern is i wont be able to flash future updates
any suggestions would be really appreciated
Thanks...
there was a guy a while back with this problem for one of cyanogen's rom, daneshm9 (or something like that). he has a thread somewhere in the Q&A section about his problem (which appears to be very similar to yours)
from what they gathered it was a kernel panic. there was just the one version he could not flash for anything, he could flash older versions but it was just that one that wouldn't work ( he did get it working with someone elses nandroid of it, but could not flash the rom itself and get it to work)
if you can find the thread, you can pm the guy to find out if his issue ever got resolved and if he is able to flash later versions of cynogen's rom.
sorry i don't have any more info than that
edit: saw the guys user name in another thread its daneshm90
Hey, lol. I never got it resolved so i returned my g1 and bought a magic instead. Yea c if someone wud b nice enough to send u a nandroid of a wiped 4.1.11.1 and then try that.
Thanks mate - unfortunately I cant return my G1 - bought it off the net as we dont have T-Mobile available here in Ireland.
Is there any kind soul out there who would be willing to do as suggested and send me a copy of a working nandroid backup of CM 4.1.11.1 so I can try to get myself out of this mess
Please Please help me out - i'm dying here...lol
Thanks guys

G1 bootloader loop

In my stupidity I removed the battery during the first boot after installing the most recent CM. When I went to boot up again it wouldn't get past the boot screen(the initial one, not the CM one).
Using ADB I pushed on a few roms that I though would help, none did. I started up adb logcat and here's what I got(this loops continuously):

This is the logcat, I don't know if this is relevant but I figured I'd include it if anybody can understand it.
I have the same problem. I go into Advanced Task Manager and kill the 'Home' process and everything comes back. It's annoying when it happens...so hopefully it'll be fixed soon!
ETA: I use the same weather widget you do...I wonder if that's a contributing factor.

Can no longer flash any roms (didn't lose root)

Greetings fellow tinkerers, hope you can help.
After flashing AOSP eclair 2.0 I'm now unable to flash anything else, I get the below error (see code) for any mod I try and install.
I can no longer restore nandroid backups. I can only install the default sappimg.nbh.
I've tried to reroot the phone thinking maybe I lost root, but I can SU in terminal so I don't think that's the case.
edit: I've wiped and cleared everything, formatted the SD card, swapped the SD card.
edit: every time I try to do anything from the recovery console, e.g. nandriod resto or "fix package uid matches" it give me and error and tells me to run fix_permissions from adb
Tmobile MT3G (32B board)
HBOOT 1.33.0006
Tried Amon Ra and CM flash recovery
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I've cleared and wiped, reformatted my SD card.
Reinstalled sappimg.nbh.
cleared and wiped some more.
I've wiped and cleared with both root access and non-root access

I don't see "console" in the recovery mode for any of my recovery flashers, but I have seen the option before; as I have a MT3G there is no physical keyboard so I can't use console anyway.

He is using mt3g so there is no console.
IIRC correctly I can get a console if I use a dream recovery flasher
well have your tried to run fix_permissions from adb like it said? if you dont know how to use adb there are threads on how to set it up. also if you can boot a rom and download a terminal app with an on screen keyboard you can run fix_permissions from terminal
Just boot into recovery and open up the cmd prompt and do
adb shell
then below should be a

Definitely worth trying, where can I obtain the correct framework.jar?

I'm still getting all sorts of errors. Not to mention I apparently am still able to flash the phone, there are apparently only two ways to get my phone to run:
sappimg.nbh or a nandroid restore
I can't flash/upgrade any roms nor get root access (used telnet and unlockr method)
Did I brick my phone?
Any ideas?
I will love you for always

sorry for being late to response
u can get framework.jar from the original donut rom or any other rom i guess
from what i know if u can access the bootloader mode then ur not bricked.
did u get your phone to work by using sappimg.nbh?
i figured out u have perfected spl, i think that there is a 10% chance that it is causing all this stuff
dunno if it helps but plz check this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
!!!!!!!!BUT PLEASE TAKE CAUTION WHILE TRYING THIS OUT, DO SOME READING!!!!!!!!
still no dice
Tried the NON-perfected SPL's and didn't seem to fix the problem,

Update
I got the whole gold card thing working still having the same problem with framework.jar with cyanogen 4.2.8.1.
For some reason the ONLY way to get anything working is through one particular nandroid from cm 4.2.7.1 that I have. Is there anyway to use that to my advantage.
I can't upgrade or install any other ROMs, and I'm pretty much at wits end.
Anyone?
bump,
How do I fix this?

reformat your sd card again, place on it hard spl, htc image for mytouch, and cyans latest rom. then flash hard spl or w/e is similar to it for the mt3g (majority of the time the danger spl is what screws things up for people), then reboot, so it takes you back to recovery, then flash teh htc image, do no reboot yet, and immedaitely flash cyans rom, then reboot. should allow you to start from scratch and have everything work again.
Can you please clarify hard spl and where I can get it?
Thanks.
