This Place is Awesome Can you recommend a rom.

Thanks. I bricked my Tmobile wing 2 days out of the box and all I had to do was follow the instructions to bring it back.
There are a myriad of ROM choices. Can somebody recommend one to start with . I want the touch stuff, the cube, Microsoft office, the eight button comm center. Id like to overclock a little, and free up some memory.
I dont need IM, tmobiles stuff...
Thanks again for the great forum.

I reccommend ITJE's TOUCH-IT rom or ASERG's ROM. I have used them both for prolonged periods of time and have been extremely pleased with both.

My First POST!!!
Howdy y'all.
Is there a place that gives good descriptions of all of the various features?
For example: What's the difference between Open Touch and Touch It?

test it. and ask you the question: what is the difference between AT&T, T-Mobile and O2...
all the same and completely different!
lol
Exactly. Each one has ups and downs but they play a part only in EACH individual's personal usage.
itje's TouchIT and ITsBlack are usually the latest and greatest in porting. Although, at the momment, we're all using the same build. Currently his newer builds are more about speed. His ROMs are Herald ROMs but you can switch the keyboard layout to almost completely match the Wing if you have a wing.
Ttran's Open Touch tend to go for functionality and pizaz. (sp!) They look good and do everything but wash your car. His ROMs are Wing ROMs but you can switch the keyboard layout to almost completely match the Herald if you have a wing.
Papamopps makes modded itje's ROMs that run a bit more to meet his needs. They tend to be very to the point and do their job without messing around. Like itje's, they're Herald ROMs.
Ivan: My clean series ROMs tend to be plain, clean, stripped down, no frills ROMs. No extra programs or features. I usually include both Herald and Wing versions with native keyboard drivers.
kidnamedAlbert makes the Carbon series, which are customized ROMs made in my kitchen. He's the newest member of the cooking crew, so we're expecting great things out of him.
Lastly, you can also use my kitchen to create a version of my own ROM with the apps you want.
But this "review" is not a review of ROMs but a "review" on the cooks who make them.
Forgive me if I forgot anybody.
i use open touch biggy 3.0..love it on my wing

you forget Aserg's rom
Also:
There's also PDAViets roms. This one is excellent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364706
It was my Favorite until ttran's Open Touch Lite. Been using this one for a long while now and its the Best. I've tried alot of others but without Internet Sharing I'm dead in the water.
For my first flash I used TTran's Open-Touch ROM (3.0 Biggy), it was really nice for a first timer who doesn't have the experience needed to tweak things.
Once you play with your phone enough you'll become more comfortable with installing/tweaking programs and you may want different things out of your phone (biggy has every feature you can imagine), this is where the clean/lite roms come in with more storage for the apps you use & more customization.
I haven't tried Aserg's or PDAViet's, so unfortunately, I can't comment on them.
Oh yeah and lets not Forget:
umchriswho
Nice Omega Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369295
I use open Touch and I love it. It was my first flash and I havent had any problems to make me look else where. My wing has been running 10 times better then when I had the stock rom. If you wait a little TTRAN is coming out with ver 4.0!
I have been using Aserg for a while now.. D
Duprade, Have you noticed the MMS working. Mine actually works.

the majority of the roms so far are only the os and some additional dll's ported. There still, as far as my knowledge, hasn't been a successful port of the entire rom (including video drivers) to another device. I have a kaiser and using leo's diamond v3 which has alot of things imported from the diamond rom.
It probably could be ported on the hima just need someone to do it
who cares about the rom as long as some1 can get that manila interface to other devices... btw is it out? is it runnable on other devices?

It is out but it doesn't run very well on other devices than Diamond.
Sascha
Ok, I have been searching the forums and reading a ton of posts. What I am looking for is a striped down version of the diamond rom for kaiser. One without any extra applications would be great. I just want the bare bones minimum. Does anyone know if they have such a rom?
lol i think ud have a much better chance of getting an answer to that if you ask in the kaiser forums... :|
Perhaps but I just thought I would ask on a pre-existing thread. Thanks for the info though,,,

question to the winmo devs

hi guys.
dunno if it's the rite section, but maybe someone can put some light onto this case...
recently I was involved in a big conract which was including some serious demolition and relocations on site. I've decided to take out of drawer my ol' trusty nokia N70 to protect my kaiser.
as a bit of a geek, I uploaded vbag emulator and couple of roms to my nokia, just to kill some time on my way to and back from work.
... guess what? on first of the N series phone with ~200 mhz cpu gba games fly. with frameskip set just to 1 I had no problems with baldur gates, zelda or even more speedy games like sonic 3.
now the question: is the good emulator of let's say gba just a matter of good dedicated programing for i.e. kaiser or does winmo suck in general??
I've tried all gba emulators for winmo and nothing can touch that damn old nokia with vbag... (-_-)'
don't get me wrong, I still love my kaiser, but if old N70 can do this wouldn't it be possible on kaiser?
thank You- come again
bro

the best rom to get speed ? and eye candy combo... idea..

can some one recomend a rom for speed and reliability thats stripped down but still has most features of new wm6.5 packages but not bothered about manilla or titanium... the plan is to run a very fast reliable rom then install all the apps i like and have spb mobile shel 3.5 as the ui i think this will make the smoothest and eye candy combo ava'bke for tp2.
anyone come in with any input please! discussion...

look at josh perfect black, hey have a stript version and i.m use the full one and that one is really fast
well i am goin 2 try that! and install the missing apps i need thats been stripped out.
what makes a device faster surley it dont matter how many apps are installed i am sure the amount of services running in the back ground are though.
i will be interested to see how a stripped rom using nothing but spb shell 3.5 runs compaired to manilla and titanium. idealy i think 6.1 is fater than 6.5 so maybe will use 6.1 rom as the base as 6.5 holds no other features imo other than a horrible start menu and a few different layouts in the settings etc.
i want services like face book twitter msn hotmail/live and location and weather on all the time but any other service can be stopped / took out if the device will still work with out it and not limit me to installing any future apps.
why dont chefs cook in spb shell and lose the htc crap ( its a hardware company imo and a damn good one best mobile hardware out there) all being let down by the aplications and reliability.
ff topic
look at hd2 specs they blow all others away yet when ever some one uses our fone or we show are mates something low and behold it will make u look a prick and freeze or not do what it should have done anyone else feel this lol!
dont get me wrong i am a hard core winmo guy and allways will be but part of me is wanting an iphone 3gs as a "2nd" fone for games and social front cause winmo is lagging behind.. there emulators work brillantly so do there gps apps now they hav tomtom and even sky sports and a banking app from natwest grrr whats going on! lol

SPB software is not free and sold at retail, if chefs were to cook software like this in, it would open up a massive can of worms.
Chefs respect (or should) the intellectual property of others, so this will never happen.
and htc and microsoft are free and open to be copied changed and edited? its all a grey area but i agree we dont want to be atracting the wrong attention indeed. like microsoft spokes person said its up the the manufactures and htc said about the chefs out there we cant live with them and we cant live with out them meaning they know that cooked roms sell there devices cause neither of them can get it rite in the first place... spb i suppose ont deserve to be dragged in/ ripped off cause like you say there a seperate entity// maybe someone can show us how to cook it our selves for ppl that own the software?
you can flash a lite rom without manila and htc staff, then install spb software or others by yourself
I HIGHLY recommend The Cell Series V7. Fast and looks the best!
Valkyrie's ROMS are excellent
Any ROM in here is a good choice!
PS: How will define eye candy and speed? If you can define that two, then suggesting a suitable ROM might be easy...

very insightful
I prefer the NRGZ28 ROMS.
No, I prefer the Deepshining.
Well, I prefer the Valkyrie.
I think the Cell series are the best.
How about Jackos, Twopumpchump, Josh's, LeoPard, Mccune, AthineOS, Aruppenthal, Bhar's, Da_G, daxy, Sergio, eras2r, ...
Stop asking which is best. It is a matter of opinion and need. And the answer is different for us all or we would just have the Miscrosft version and xda wouldn't be needed. Try them until you find what you are looking for, or cook your own.

Advice on what ROM to run?

Im waiting for my new phone Rhodium dah
And i have been looking around for different ROMs and i cant find anything that im looking for.
My old phone (X1) i ran a WM 6.5 barebone version that means no extra "stuff" or themes and on just plain simple WM 6.5 because i rum Spb Mobile shell i like the animations and so on in it so it feels waste of resources to run like TouchFLO and so on.
And when im typing this i could take the chans and ask about the Manila & Sense, Are they different version of TouchFLO 3D? never got the hang of that part :/
Thanks for all help in advance
Hi danne.
this topic is probably going to be closed soon, since this question is asked alot on this forum.
and usually, the answer is something like, take your time and install different roms to see wich one you like.
personally, I recommend you the T.I.R. explosion rom, cause it is stable and doesn't have lots of programs installed.
so it runs on the bare minimum, which is what you are looking for as far as I hear.
then again, this is my personal opinion and probably there are lots of other people around here who will tell you to try another rom.
and they are all right, so please, try them out and enjoy them all
love
fuzz
I don't know why it should be closed because ppl want to know what tip and what they should run. I mean in this case something "barebone" i all the ROMs i have been looking at i full with extra apps and other flashy teams..
Is this what you mean? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587419&highlight=explosion+rom
Thats not exactly what im looking for, I want a standard WM 6.5 not with a modified menu system or desktop.
Or if you should find a brebone some functions of the phone has been removed.. like radio. The point with barebone is not to remove functions that the phone has but to minimize the usage of memory and thems that you are never going to use. And maybe have the Themes like extra CABs or something.
im currently running a perceft barebone WM 6.5 with Spb mobile shel on my X1 and that is mutch faster then i ran a ROM with touchFLO and stuff and then mobile shell on top.
Test a several till you find the one that fits better for your needs and share it with us!
And donĀ“t forget to vote for Rhodium"!"!
Seems that no one understands what "Standard WM 6.5" means
Anyway................
How about the TouchFlO stuff?, 3D,Manila,Sense,MaxManila and so on, What is the difference?

Manila is mostly the same as both TouchFlo3D and Sense. Since Sense is name HTC calls the TouchFlo3D in newer devices with newer properties.
And the name "Manila ver x.x.xxxxxxx"(for instance: manila v2.1.xxxxxx are usually for TouchFlo3D and v2.5.xxxxxxxxx are for Sense) is mostly used in xda and devs forums because the source files of both TouchFlo3D and Sense is called as Manila in the windoes or Android directories.
I dunno much about MaxManila but what I think about your rom decision is the same as most people, you'll probably end up with spending hours in the forum and another hours for installing - testing - reinstalling roms to your device and trying to be careful about your data, but in the end I'm sure you'll find what you really want.
Standard WM 6.5? The non-touch screen OS? Or a bare-bones version of the WM 6.5 that comes on touch screen devices (a.k.a. WM 6.5 Professional)?
If you are talking about WM 6.5 professional versions, my advice would be to look at the various posts on the ROMs and read what those who have come before you think. Do the negatives out weigh the positives? How many bugs?
Personall, I like NRG's work. Stable and efficient.
I must admit that NRG does a great job! example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773&highlight=EnergyROM
Seems to support landscape and stuff and seems to use the latest stuff.

I haven't tried it, but this sounds about like what you're looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604893
And this NRGZ ROM has just a Titanium version. Titanium, however, is just another overlay/launcher like Sense, just not as complex.
I think Energy's roms are great, but the only issue about it is his roms are not so "energy",meaning battery life is not so good.
Rhodium_AF is also nice.
As for ROM's themselves i've notice in the past year here on the XDA forums that roms have become very similar to each other with very minor differences between them in the speed and the way they look. This as become more so since people have been cooking with wm6.5
Personally i am not bothered by this because i like the more business-like look of the ROMs and i am not embarrsed to pull my phone out and show off my new GUI. And not look like the more immiture ones from a couple of years back
personally after looking around the ones by NRGZ28 seem the most ascetically pleasing of the lot and seem to have positive reviews regaurding speed
As of now, valkerie's 23518-F5 rom got all thumbs up for tp2.
NRGZ > Fast roms, with almost no trouble at all.
Ark66 > Custom rom with a stock lay out, my own experience is that this rom freezes every 2 days, if not every day
Still I love the Ark66 theme and stuff that's why I am constantly switching between those 2.
I like dotcompt Roms, awesome work with the Diamond and now amazing Rhodium Roms.
Download DeepShining v11, it is simple the best there is.
