How did they fix it without releasing a ROM update?

not sure, i saw on twitter that HTC Peep issue had been resolved. Maybe not though...? I just read a few minutes ago that they (HTC) "are working on a fix, please be patient"

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/09/23/htc-hero-users-hit-by-twitpocalyse-bug/
If this is true, they may need to update the app. I don't know how Twitter is going to change their identification on their end. It sounded app-specific to me.

com.peep!
the bug seems to be still in full swing on my g1 BUT...
Today i wanted to do some experiments on my g1 unrelated to peep, so i put my experimenting SD card in which has a copy of DRIZZYS ( old ) PERSONAL V3 rom on it
and i started to do my thing..
after a few hours it occured to me i hadnt had one PEEP com. error at all, all my twitter updates were loading and i was able to tweet fine, this has been working all day for the past ten hours.
i re-flashed a newer rom again a few mins ago but that resulted in errors again so i know the problem aint fixed but if anyone wants to try the DRIZZYS PERSONAL V3 rom method i would love to know if it works for you ??

Hmmm interesting... I just bought my daughter a G1 yesterday got it home rooted it for her updated the radio and installed JF 1.51 US and about midnight last night she noticed that some of her peeps were not responding to her text msg's but paid it no mind since it was late... she got up this morning and started texting and no one was getting her text, she could receive them, but no one was getting her's... she called me in a panic(god forbid texting don't work) that she can't communicate with text messaging... I could not think of what to tell her that she would know how to do. I left the update of the ROM file on the SC card I was going to have her do a wipe and reflash it, but if I don't do it I don't feel comfortable in letting her do it so I told her to power off and power back on... its(texting) been working for the last 4 hours so far... as I keep sending a test msg to see if she can respond to me...
power it off and back on... I don't know if that works or not... but it did for me so far... if anythings changes I will edit my post... peace
They did close my post! Anyway, I think my problem is reversed from yours. I can receive. On and off did nothing....

Missing text messages?

I have had my G1 since about a month after it has come out and I have never had any problems with missing text messages. I'm a heavy texter so they are important to me. I rooted my phone a while after I got it and still never had any problems, but recently I have been have problems with getting and receiving them. I have gone through many roms from hero's to cyanogen to others without problems. But they have started about a month or two ago. I currently have Cloverdale's Blue_Haze-Eclair_2.1-v1.7 with Haykuro's special spl. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?
Is the problem intermittent, or do you miss your texts 100% of the time?
Do you have access to ADB so you can get a log of what's happening when you get a text?
I once couldn't receive texts because I switched from a Hero-based ROM back to a standard ROM, and the data format of the Messaging app is different. The phone would get the message, but the Messaging app would crash before saving it due to the error and I didn't have a clue until I looked at the log, so that's one possibility.
Well the problem is intermittent. I get them most of the times but there are a lot of times when I don't get them. I don't have access to ADB. Is it difficult to do that? That is an interesting perspective though. I have never thought about it that way.
i had this problem and then i had a problem where i would get the text notification and when i go to open it its like it disappears and the new text isn't there. i've had friends tell me they texted me a few times and i never got anything, i was running CM's rom and a few weeks ago i switched to super D and have not had any problems with texts whatsoever. i'm not sure if it's a rom thing or what but its weird and i racked my brain trying to figure why its happening and how to fix it. id suggest maybe using super d's rom for a few days and see if it solves anything but i swear ever since i switched i've been getting and sending all my texts
Yeahh I have had the disappearing texts problem also. So do you really think if I switch to super d that the problem will be fixed?
And also do you think you can post the link the super D page so that I can check it out? Is it updated regularly though because I also rely heavily on updated roms.
I had that problem with other Hero ROM's. It solved when I flashed the latest MghtyMax ROM. Also install Handcent SMS then go to settings and activate the "Autoretrieve", "Show pop-up" and "Self check" options.

I'm not promising anything but since I switched I haven't missed not 1 text and it's goin on about 3 weeks now and I text everyday...heres the link for the rom, you do have to have the danger spl but it's super easy to install just make sure you have the right radio. if you need any help just hit me up and i'll try my best

Awesome thanks. I think I'll give super d a try

My milestone crashes, how can i make it stop?

My milestone has a nasty habit of rebooting itself every now and then.
Here are some logs i was able to save right after it rebooted, i can't make any sense of them
pastebin.com/YYQhwvt0
pastebin.com/M3DtwN1h
pastebin.com/91cD1qzQ
pastebin.com/s2bRYJKw
(can't post links yet, so you'll have to copy paste)
I'd really appreciate if any of you guys could decipher what's wrong with ma phone
I have a Milestone to and it also random reboots!
The problem is not your handset but motorola's crappy programming...
I had it before the update that was released last week and after the update it only got worse on my Milestone...
The only thing you can do is wait for another update for 2.1 (if they will make another update) or pray that Motorola will release 2.2.
I know some people with a milestone that don't have crashes at all, and they're using my version too..
yep i know some to but mine reboots atleast 1 time a day and when i get it out of my pocket i need to enter the damn pin again...
Sometimes even when im driving it reboots itself what is rly anoying when ur navigating with Google Nav...
Well, i've got 4 logs, the answer must be in there.
Now just to get someone who understands it to read and help out..

[Q] contacts and phone dialer stopped working

Hello everyone...So all of a sudden today i cannot get into my contacts or phone dialer. I go to my apps menu and they are no longer there..all of this was just out of no where...my Nexus One is currently on the CM 6.1.1 and the kernel that came with it... I have been running this ROM for well over a week with no issues what so ever and all of a sudden today those things dont work...tried to restore the phone from a few days ago and still the same issue.... i can still find contacts through my text messages as if i was starting a new message but if i click on the contact icon it just force closes messaging....so im curious if anyone has ever had this issue before? Any advice on what to look for or look into will be greatly appreciated
Never mind everyone got the issue fixed late last night...sorry for the useless thread
It's not such a useless thread if you post what happened and how it was fixed.
I'm sure someone else will come across the same problems down the line.
yeah the fix was simple haha...like i stated above i flashed back to a restore i did a few days ago and that didnt fix.....found out i had a restore that i did like over a week ago (same ROM and Kernel as the one that messed up) and boom! Works like a charm now...dont ask me what is different between the 2 backups i had cause there wasnt a difference just the date but its all good now

[Q] I rooted Captivate w/Froyo 2.2 - Now lots of problems

I finally updated to the official AT&T Froyo 2.2 probably about a month ago. Everything was working great. I wanted to root/enable sideloading apps/unlock. I used SuperOneClick 2.1.1. The root worked fine (at least I think so). I was not able to enable sideloading apps so I read online how to change the value of sideloading apps from 0 to 1. I also unlocked the phone using the Galaxy S unlock app from the the Market.
Almost right after the SD Scan would take a long time and then I would get a red SD card symbol saying "Low on Space - Database storage is getting low". I tried clearing cache's to fix the problem. It didn't fix anything. Soon thereafter I started getting "Message Memory Full - Incoming messages rejected due to full...." I cleared phone log/txt messages but it hasn't fixed anything. I looked at my internal and external SD card. My external card is 3.68 total with 17MB available. My internal has 12.67GB available.
Today all of a sudden if I try to look at my missed call I get "samsung captivate the application phone (process com.sec.android.app.dialertab) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I get similar messages trying to open Gmail. I haven't gotten it on any other apps yet as far as I know. It vibrates like crazy when the apps crash.
Can anyone help me with the problem? It's making my phone useless right now and my battery is dying much quicker than before. Thanks!

My vote is to go with a custom ROM. It will solve all of these problems. Cognition is the most similar to stock and is quite easy to flash. As for the problems you are having, I don't know what to tell you.
Try Cognition 4.5.3. You won't be disappointed.
Thanks for the quick replay Jack especially on a Fri night. What exactly do I do? Is it difficult to do?
Well, not busy tonight. Watching pre-season football.
Flashing a Froyo rom is not too bad. Since you have stock 2.2 it will be a little more tricky than if you were still on 2.1.
First, what is your build number? look on the sticker under your battery to see a four digit number beginning with either 10 or 11.
I will private message you with more.

Make sure you READ EVERY LINE OF THE OP. When you think you got it, read it again, then give it a shot. For the time being just factory reset your phone, should clear up some of your issues. Good luck
sent from long ago, in a Galaxy far, far away.
^^^ he's right. READ, READ, READ... until you're sick of it. It will pay off and keep you from bricking. Sorry I didn't mention that. But I will be glad to help you if you need.
and if (or when) you manage to brick it do not panic,, go back and read some more,, seems that almost everything an idiot like me can do is fixable,, and most normal people are pretty safe,, they are not going to kill their phone,,,,if they read and follow instructions,,,not doing those two have found my phone in some pretty unresponsive states,, but I am running mosaic VI now and loving it,,but have been on so many I had to go look,,and have finally I hope learned the value of reading ( and those other people probably do know more than me so I should not think I know better ,,,yet)

Not sure how much of knowledge you have gained before doing these attempts of changing some values to enable side-loading...
I would suggest to do factory reset since you are still on FROYO and see if this does the magic.
If it gets locked back to AT&T, I suggest just talk to AT&T rep to unlock & side-enabling. Once all is well, you can do rooting as you did before. Hope this helps to solve your problem.
For any other help, we have XDA here and get some time to go through forums. As others suggested, please read, understand and act.
A day after I posted this the phone seemed to be working right. However Jackman pointed out if it happened once it's almost sure it will happen again. I tended to agree with him so did a factory reset and then flashed with Cognition 4.5.3 with a lot of Jack's help of course. Right now seems to be working flawlessly. I do like this whole custom ROM idea. Even thinking about buying a used Captivate on ebay just so I can mess around with other ROMs. Thanks everyone for your help & input. If you have any other suggestions my ears are always open...

Just for a bit of encouragement ive been using Cognition 4.5.3 as my daily driver for the past 4-5 months and have never had a single issue with great battery life. Ive tried numerous other roms on this forum and always have run into a boot loop, force close, or other random issue that makes my phone unstable but with Cognition I experience what my phone was meant to be like.
