[Q] I rooted Captivate w/Froyo 2.2 - Now lots of problems - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I finally updated to the official AT&T Froyo 2.2 probably about a month ago. Everything was working great. I wanted to root/enable sideloading apps/unlock. I used SuperOneClick 2.1.1. The root worked fine (at least I think so). I was not able to enable sideloading apps so I read online how to change the value of sideloading apps from 0 to 1. I also unlocked the phone using the Galaxy S unlock app from the the Market.
Almost right after the SD Scan would take a long time and then I would get a red SD card symbol saying "Low on Space - Database storage is getting low". I tried clearing cache's to fix the problem. It didn't fix anything. Soon thereafter I started getting "Message Memory Full - Incoming messages rejected due to full...." I cleared phone log/txt messages but it hasn't fixed anything. I looked at my internal and external SD card. My external card is 3.68 total with 17MB available. My internal has 12.67GB available.
Today all of a sudden if I try to look at my missed call I get "samsung captivate the application phone (process com.sec.android.app.dialertab) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I get similar messages trying to open Gmail. I haven't gotten it on any other apps yet as far as I know. It vibrates like crazy when the apps crash.
Can anyone help me with the problem? It's making my phone useless right now and my battery is dying much quicker than before. Thanks!

My vote is to go with a custom ROM. It will solve all of these problems. Cognition is the most similar to stock and is quite easy to flash. As for the problems you are having, I don't know what to tell you.
Try Cognition 4.5.3. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the quick replay Jack especially on a Fri night. What exactly do I do? Is it difficult to do?

Well, not busy tonight. Watching pre-season football.
Flashing a Froyo rom is not too bad. Since you have stock 2.2 it will be a little more tricky than if you were still on 2.1.
First, what is your build number? look on the sticker under your battery to see a four digit number beginning with either 10 or 11.
I will private message you with more.

Make sure you READ EVERY LINE OF THE OP. When you think you got it, read it again, then give it a shot. For the time being just factory reset your phone, should clear up some of your issues. Good luck
sent from long ago, in a Galaxy far, far away.

^^^ he's right. READ, READ, READ... until you're sick of it. It will pay off and keep you from bricking. Sorry I didn't mention that. But I will be glad to help you if you need.

and if (or when) you manage to brick it do not panic,, go back and read some more,, seems that almost everything an idiot like me can do is fixable,, and most normal people are pretty safe,, they are not going to kill their phone,,,,if they read and follow instructions,,,not doing those two have found my phone in some pretty unresponsive states,, but I am running mosaic VI now and loving it,,but have been on so many I had to go look,,and have finally I hope learned the value of reading ( and those other people probably do know more than me so I should not think I know better ,,,yet)

Not sure how much of knowledge you have gained before doing these attempts of changing some values to enable side-loading...
I would suggest to do factory reset since you are still on FROYO and see if this does the magic.
If it gets locked back to AT&T, I suggest just talk to AT&T rep to unlock & side-enabling. Once all is well, you can do rooting as you did before. Hope this helps to solve your problem.
For any other help, we have XDA here and get some time to go through forums. As others suggested, please read, understand and act.

A day after I posted this the phone seemed to be working right. However Jackman pointed out if it happened once it's almost sure it will happen again. I tended to agree with him so did a factory reset and then flashed with Cognition 4.5.3 with a lot of Jack's help of course. Right now seems to be working flawlessly. I do like this whole custom ROM idea. Even thinking about buying a used Captivate on ebay just so I can mess around with other ROMs. Thanks everyone for your help & input. If you have any other suggestions my ears are always open...

Just for a bit of encouragement ive been using Cognition 4.5.3 as my daily driver for the past 4-5 months and have never had a single issue with great battery life. Ive tried numerous other roms on this forum and always have run into a boot loop, force close, or other random issue that makes my phone unstable but with Cognition I experience what my phone was meant to be like.

Phone hangs in sleep mode

Hello there,
I really am stumped, and would really like some help! I've searched the forums, can't really find what I'm after, so apologies if this as already been asked/answered.
Basically, my G1 hangs a lot when it goes to sleep. I'm running Cyanogen 4.0.4 with an 8Gb Class 6 card - everything was fine when I was using the stock 2Gb card that came with the phone, but after having loads of trouble trying to transfer my apps, I decided to just wipe and start again. The card is Ext2 parted with a 293Mb size partition. I did have it as Ext3, but thought this might be the problem (since I didn't have any problems with Ext2 on my old card), and wiped and repartitioned as Ext2 but that wasn't the case and problems persisted. Occasionally the phone will hang when it is on, but mostly the hanging happens when I leave it alone for a while; the screen stays dark and nothing happens, and I have to take the battery out and restart the whole phone.
One thing to note is that when I did reinstall everything, MybackupPro often didn't like the card, and gave me 'I/O problems with card' or 'Cannot install app' mesaages until I rebooted and started again each time the messages came up. I had to reinstall my apps in 10 - 20 app chunks in the end, rebooting when errors came up, but eventually I got everything reinstalled.
I'm running Swapper (I know Cyanogen does something similar natively, but wasn't sure how it worked...someone please correct me if I shouldn't be using it), and Overclock Widget. Like I said. I never had a single problem before with my old card and these apps, so this all leads me to think it may be the card, but any advice would be much appreciated!

Hmm... sounds like the card to me. And the fact that you are using swapper on a possible defective card may very well be causing your system to hang. The system is relying on the sdcard as part of it's memory. So if the cards fails at any point, so will your phone. It'll be like pulling the RAM module out of your computer while your using it. Include a logcat of the phone crashing if you can and post it. Also reformat and check the partition for errors.
Thanks for your advice, I thought it may be the card too. Partitions seems fine...I used Partition Manager and it didn't throw up any problems.
As for Logcat, I did try and do that, but got a bit stuck trying to fiddle with my computer, and I don't think it's going to happen. I'm a bit of a newbie I'm afraid.
I don't mind getting a new card, but the only thing I'm concerned about is moving my apps...on this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553469 it looked pretty easy, but could you tell me if these commands are to be executed in the terminal on the handset? Does it copy the apps, because I imagined that if you fiddled with stuff that's in use (like moving an app from the Ext2) would cause a lot of FCs and possibly even hangs.
odd hang
I myself am getting a bit of a hang when waking the phone up, i have to hit the menu button several times, kinda reminds me of the coma issue that we had back on the old kernal. i didn't have a problem till i clean out my phone by wiping and reformating my card, it is not that big off a deal but it is just strange. oh and to the op, you do not need to run openclocker since cyanogen's rom has cpu scaling that does it already and if you have your partions in order as fat, ext, swap than it will auto use compchace

My phone did the exact same thing when I was using either Jac's Hero 1.3 or cyanogenmod 4.0.1. I tried everything and it wouldn't go away so I ended up switching to xrom.
Since cyan has been doing a lot of kernal tweaks lately do you think that it is possible that the coma issue has gotten reintroduce though, I mean both mine and the op is doing it, his is worse but if you remember that is what was happening to a lot before, mine never got to the point of pulling the battery but to the point of annoyance just like it used to
How is the xrom <that's jac's non hero build, right?> is it comparable to cyanogen's, I love cyan's performance but if this persits, I might find something else for awhile
I love it honestly. He just updated it to 1.4r3 and its is sweet, it has a custom theme and it looks really good. The performance is great and I don't even use a swap with it. I tried cyan again when 4.0.3 came out and only used it for 2 days before switching back to xrom. Personally I liked the icons and lockscreen of xrom 1.3r3 better then 1.4r3 but that is just my opinion, If you want to try 1.3r3 I can send it to you since it's not up anymore. Try 1.4r3 first though and see what you think because IMO it is the best rom out. Hero is nice but no matter what you get some lag and after a week or to it gets slower so I don't use it yet, I try the new builds but never stick with them.
Yeah I feel the same way but the hero builds too, nice to play with but nowhere near usable for me, I might just have to check out the xrom but I don't wanna give up loccy's browser, it is just friggin sweet and it works good for me because of the option of viewing just destop versions of sites since I get the men's health daily newsletter and whenever I would click on a link it would give me the moble version and not the article I would like to read, if loccy's brower works on the xrom, we might just have a winner
I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure. Is it just a simple .apk to install or do I need to push it?
I just read the thread on the browser and it says it should work on xrom. It says to push it but I have just installed it like a normal apk before
Yea I am downloading it right now so I will let you know how it goes. Just so you know the browser on xrom doesn't have those zoom in/out buttons that pop up when you touch it, also it has multi touch just no double tap to zoom. I don't see any settings for turning off mobile pages though.
Well I am downloading the xrom right now so I will be flashing within the next half an hour or so, let me now if the browser works for you, by the way is compchache or swap automatic on it like cyan's or do I need to set it up myself, I perfer swapper, it just seems to work better for me
I think swapper is automatic but to be honest I never have used it for xrom because it is fast enough without it. The better browser works I just installed it normally, no pushing and I am using it right now with no problems, you have a pm.
If you like the notification bar icons in the first picture on the xrom thread they are from 1.3r3 because they changed in 1.4r3. If you want the older ones I can give you that rom amd it runs just as fast, only has a few differences from the newer one.
This xrom is nice, I am happy with the newest, oh and when I installed swapper and went in it was already set at 96mb and swappiness of 80 and I am on a fresh install and reformat so it must be automaticly set to then, explain why it is so smooth. Definitely comparable performance wise to cyanogen so I might have to stick with this for a while
I dont even have a linux-swap partition on my sd and I haven't had any problems with speed or lag.
Mine is silky smooth, better than I have had on any roms even the stock one

[Q] Which Route for me... no pun intended!!

Hello, I am in need of a little help. I am a complete noob to android and have no idea really how the system works. I have a Samsung Galaxy S and have decided to root my phone for 2 reasons.. ap2sd and so I can install the lag fix. I have done a bit of reading and chosen the path I wish to take but would like some assurance and pointers. I am also unsure of: If I root my phone does this automatically mean that with a properly partitioned sd card that I can store apps 2 sd or do I still need to flash the handset with a new ROM and if so there I am stuck... I do not know where to begin with searching for the best ROM for me. Also I would like to know if after i've done this will the handset still be able to receive the official updates or will I just need to keep updating it myself!
Here is the rundown as far as i have got so far...
Samsung Galaxy S I9000/XXJF3 Updated!
All the programs for XP i need are downloaded (eg.net3.5/4, samsung drivers)
The root method I thought was best for me was that of TGA_Gunman
The lag fix I had chosen is by Chainfire
I have still to back up the original ROM with ClockWorkMod (Is this easy to do and if I need to use it will it bring me completely back to my original settings for warranty purposes, or is there other things I would need to do?)
Also could someone provide me with a link to the best noob proof SD partitioning method!!
Is there anything I'm missing here, or anything that could be done a better way!! Any and all pointers will be much appreciated....
P.s. I would be wanting to update to the official froyo update when it's available will this cause me problems and if so what must I do!
Thanks in advance
ANDROID NOOB
rooting the phone is safe, and it will not cause any damage to the phone.
but stuff that you install after you root your phone, or modifications and customization changes that you do, might brick the phone, is not done properly (that's the worse case scenario), normally it will just get stuck in a black screen, or endless loop.
All that can be easily fixed using the 3 button Recovery Mode, or 3 button Download mode as posted in the Wiki
I'll suggest you to try the phone rooted but stock with whatever firmware you choose to run.
use the "Lag Fix" only if you really feel the phone sloppy.
I've been using my phone from day one to now without the "Lag Fix" because i've not experience any lag at all.
However I do install Apps to the external SD card, as i want to keep my internal SD as free as possible.
the best link for the Lag Fix & SD card partitioning is the sticky here

Thanks... I understand the risks. Bricked my windows omnia twice before I successfully managed to de-brand and update it!! lol... As to what you said about rooting it and staying with whatever firmware I choose? I wouldn't know which one to use. Normally I wouldnt bother with it all but the lag on my phone now is silly, 5sec pauses on black screens. I end up having to kill my inactive apps once or twice a day just to get some usability from it (which I'm not supposed to need to do)..... So with that in mind is there a firmware that is running better that XXJF3.... Also if flashing a new ROM will be more advantageous and easier I am willing to take that route. I had a look at the link you gave for the lag fix... but being honest I feel that is a bit much for me at this moment... there are many one click lag fixes out there that don't intimidate me so much, is there not a reliable one?... The reason the lag fix you posted scares me is that I dont really understand half of whats being said and am not to sure of the process (if i'm honest it's not explained simple enough for idiots like me) Also dont even know what a busybox is let alone have one, The one click options have them in the package. Sorry, I am so dumb and need the easy route!! LOL.... A Step by step dummies guide would be much appreciated.. LOL! But honestly The more I read the more it all confuses me.....
Anxiously waiting any help possible!!... if it's possible!

hmm.. then i'll suggest the "one click lag fix v2" in the developers forum.
that's the easiest way to get it going.
for the I9000 version JM1 seems to be the most stable ROM
I ma be following this thread as I am a noob as well
Thanks to the patient experts here!!!

Read some more into the problems with the lag fixes and now see why you were trying to steer me away.... Still way to many bugs for my liking!! I think for now its best like you said to just root and flash a better firmware... But how do I do this, correct me if im wrong:
1. Root phone via TGA_Gunman method
2. Back up phone using clockworkmod
3. download new firmware from samsung firmwares
4. put downloaded firmware onto root folder of internal SD
5. shut down phone then put the phone into download mode (Using the 3 buttons)
6. select the update.... then wait it out!!
Am I missing anything ???
As I side point I called the european samsung office today to ask if there was going to be a fix for the lag in the next month, or is it just the GPS it's concerned with... Samsungs response.... "There wasnt a problem with lag on the phone as far as we knew... You're the first person to complain of it... It has to be a problem with your handset"... Needless to say the conversation went no futrther, or I'd have lost the plot! LOL...

Yeah I've had the same... The longer the phone is in use the slower mine gets... I'm not leaving apps in the background either... It seems as if it just piles and piles inactive apps into the memory then goes slow!! I cancel the inactive ones and It's fast for a while then BOOM!.. slow again, 5/10 screen lag! unreal they're sayin they know nothing! Just hoping that a new firmware will make it better as the lag fixes look way too buggy still! Good luck with yours.. let me know if you find out any better roots/routes to fix the dam thing!
i'll disagree with the lag
i'm still using the stock ROM on mine, and i don't experience the lags some people are having.
i can browse fast, switch apps fast, play audio/video fast, launch GPS app fast, and get a lock fast even when the car is moving on the road already
i do leave stuff like Fring running in the backgroup for my IM and video calls, meanwhile the music player plays via Bluetooth to the car Deck or BT headphones, and using GPS to check my route for speed, traffic jam, etc.
email is constantly syncing, set to auto sync every hour
if i want to check the weather it loads up instantly
using stock JH2 ROM

As far as im aware you cant install a firmware using the update.zip method? this is more for custom roms and other modifications over the top of an already installed firmware?
you want to open up Odin3 and connect your phone ones in download mode, use this to flash the PDA file in your firmware pack
Using JG4. No lag. None zilch wham. I have seen the lag first hand at a local store.
I will not be installing a lag fix until I understand what they are doing so I don't be a tard (brick my phone).

I'm fine up to the point of flashing the formware could you or someone please explain in a bit more detail what ODIN3 is, how it works and what i'm gonna need and what I need to do!! Sorry to be asking so much, but better I ask and get it right than ask for more help on how to unbrick my phone ...LOL
Is it an android program or somethin I put on my PC... also is there anything I would need to do to the phone other than the root!!
EDIT: Why o why do I need to use odin3... From what i'e read all that does is send it back to original settings and firmware... WHICH I HAVE!! I have not even rooted the phone yet, I am gathering enough info before I even begin!!
So back to the point in hand.... I will root my phone back up the ROM with clockworkmod!!
After this I am stuck as to how I flash it with a different firmware one that is more stable and maybe not having issues with lag!!
Which firmware should I pick and how do I get it flashed onto the device!
PLEASE HELP! I need to try something to get rid of this lag it's unbearable! I'm now wondering if there maybe is something wrong with the handset as the lag is really not to be expected 10secs to switch an app... and i've only added bout 15 apps so its not as if I'm expecting alot from the thing!
before you go all the way and do all those Mod to make the phone faster
lets try something more simple and safer to get rid of that LAG problem (10 sec is definitely too much)
go to the phone dial pad
and dial this number
*2767*3855#
Then give us an update if the phone goes back to normal speed.

did that played with the phone a little a began to see the lag creep up on me again (I am beginning to think this is a problem with memory more than anything, it just keeps loading inactive apps into the memory till it's full) .... Ran quadrant and had a score of 856 although this means not alot to me... what is the norm... and why does that seem slow.... it is after all a 1ghz processor.....
awaiting any ideas/responses.... maybe I am just being too fussy!!!
While i'm still thinking bout what to do... Anybody got any thoughts on the APK ryanZA has released on the market place.. one click root and lagfix!! some comments that it does nothing and some sayin its runnin quadrant scores over 2k....
IS IT ONLY FOR CAPTIVATE/VIBRANT or will it work with european models???????
if it's slow like 10 sec lag even on stock.... i'll definitely return the phone to exchange for another unit.
it should respond immediately, like in 1 sec

As I say it doesnt start laggy... it just gets that way after a while of using it!! 'is it then to do with the apps i'm using but them the system manager says its all inactive programs using the space... why does it load so many in!
I have just decided to root and lag fix using Ryans' oneclick apk from the market place... Has worked a treat... Am just waiting for the official JM1 update for mine... Kies wont update my version for now.. Anyway wait and see, got a feeling froyo will be out before they sort out the kies update here! If all else fails wait for the official froyo release and apply it myself with odin!...
thanks for the help!
question for you.
did you install any software that will log your activities?
i just recently installed a network logging app, to see how much 3G /2G/GPRS data i'm using, and i noticed the seldom lags
as soon as i uninstalled that particular software, the stock JH2 ROM runs fast as usual again.
i still have all kind of other apps running in the background like IM, fring, and many other online stuff running continously without any lag

[Q] Poll On Successful Update to Froyo for I9000(m)

I would like to know how many of you had successfully updated their SGS (Samsung Galaxy S) to Froyo. I think this will help us understand the failure rates so people who do not want to risk bricking their phone.
1) Updated with no problems
2) Updated with problems
3) Tried to update and having problems
4) Did not update at all
If you are talking about roms.. Well most are a 1. I habent heard of an official froyo update. And.if.you by chance do.brick it, there are ways to unbrick it pretty easily.

mobilesyrup.com/2010/12/08/bell-samsung-galaxy-s-vibrant-upgrade-to-os-2-2-froyo-coming-december-10th/
Did update my Bell Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M with Bell release Froyo available using Kies and all seemed to be running smoothly until I had issues connecting my bluetooth and trying the voicedialing features that did not work in my case and after got Force close on every apps. Did a shutdown and got the device in a loop at boot up.
Will try tonight to reload the device with 2.1 and see from there to retry 2.2.
Finger cross !
I upgraded with no problems but I did do a factory reset as things started to get a bit slow and from what Ive read it is a good idea to do a reset to get rid of any residual 2.1 stuff on the device. Since then the update has been working well for me...
KNOCK ON WOOD!!!
I have 2 SGS phones so you'll just have to add another vote to the "successful upgrade" option in addition to the one I was able to cast
I've flashed the following 2.2's without any problems so far:
- unofficial JK3 (Canada) via ODIN
- official JK4 (Canada) via Kies
- straight JPU via ODIN
- JPU Doc RomMOD v2 via update.zip recovery
No problems with flashing.
And yes, clearing data & cache is helpful (mandatory?). Backups are good!
there is NO problem upgrading.
the Internal SD failure comes AFTER you have SUCCESSFULLY upgraded the phone, a few hours to a few days later

I would like to know how many of you had successfully updated their SGS (Samsung Galaxy S) to Froyo. I think this will help us understand the failure rates so people who do not want to risk bricking their phone.
1) Updated with no problems
2) Updated with problems
3) Tried to update and having problems
4) Did not update at all

Cool. That makes this type of poll misleading then because someone reporting success today may have issues tomorrow (we can't change our vote correct?).
That's right. I saw your post about your phone going bust. Sorry to hear that.
I just can't get Kies to work -- it just says "connecting to device" and it hangs
Also can't install MPT USB drivers -- always fails. I installed the correct x64 bit Windows 7 drivers and everything.
Ughh
Wow. I didn't think people would have problems after the update. Man, I really should wait until we all know that its okay to update. I am new when it comes to the SGS so if I fail at it, I don't want to start crying. This is such a nice phone....so if it works, why break it?

Same - I am hessitant now to upgrade.
I had one of the original phones, it sucked, no GPS, etc. and it died on me.
I got a new phone, for free, my buddy works at bell, GPS works fine, and this one I think had the internal card failure b/c one day it just went black - reboot and the bottom lights light up but it doesn't boot in.
I did a recovery mode -> hard reset seemed to fix it -- tho i lost all my apps and contacts etc.
Now I haven't rooted or lag fixed, but I REALLY want froyo.
But what's the point ? I already had to do a reset b/c of internal card failures in the past, that means im almost guaranteed to lose this one if i upgrade,...

If your card is gonna die its gonna die no matter if you upgrade or not....Flashing just seems to speed up the corruption.
Thats a good question. People seem to be having big issues with this new Froyo update here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867157. I really hope Bell gets a fix for this new "firmware Froyo 2.2" that they just released.
If the Nexus S is the so similar to the SGS I9000M why dont we have Gingerbread (2.3) yet?
Again people. It's not the froyo update that's a problem it's bad internal SDcards. These phones were dying before froyo came out and without ever flashing anything.
If they're gunna die, they're gunna die. Flashing just helps to speed up the failures. SO flash away and hope it blows before your warranty is up.

If I was you I'd flash the crap outta your phone. If your black screen was due to a weak internal SD then it's gunna go. So flash it and hope it goes so you can get a new(repaired) one. Of course the wait time is a bit long right now for repairs. And there's no guarantee that the newly repaired one won't blow.
Damn this phone....

How to do it?
It will delete also my files (photos, music....) on the internal memory?

yeah!
my phone upgrade went well..but i have occasional force closure on apps. Then one day it just hang using Msn Talk Pro and I had to pull the battery out to reboot and it never came back on - stuck after the bootup S logo. grrrr..
how long does the warranty repair usually takes?
Anyone in Vancouver Canada that are non Bell subscriber have any problem bringing it in? Which store do you guys go to? I will try the same store for hassle free repair job. Thanks

Is there a chance that my phone has a bad internal SDcard?

Took mine into the bell store at guilford mall, originally purchased at wireless wave.Unlocked and being used on the fido network. No issue at all, the guy took down my cell number as a way to track its progress.

There's no way to know for sure. Some ppl seem to have a bunch of force closes bfore it dies and others just turn it on and it's dead.

Ok. Whaaaat? Rooted NC stopped working? (will re-rooting help?)

Picked up my NC 1.0.1 today. Rooted without issue. After having a Google Talk conversation, I lost access to Marketplace, and all Google Apps? Can't log back in?
Anyone else having similar issues?
P.S. My wallpaper was changed as well ?!?!?!?!?!
p.p.s. My browsing history and favorites are gone too? Please tell me an update or something was just pushed out. I feel like I just wasted a few hours of my life here.
My rooted 1.0.1 nook has problems as well. Gets authorization error and resets data. After restoring through the clockwork recovery, had it up just for 5 minutes before it automatically reset again. Lost all my apps, market access, youtube, etc. Don't know if this issue has been discussed before. May just have to go back to stock.
It appears that something is amiss. I cannot sign back into any Google Services.
Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server
This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues call Customer Care.

Would a simple re-rooting solve the issue?
Same here. Was using everything fine Saturday. Turned on the device and in a few minutes I got an error, something about a problem with the registration and it said it was rebooting. It did and wiped everything of my rooted install except the market. Can't login to google account now.

I might add that I got my device it was at 1.0.0 and I rooted then reflashed to stock to upgrade to 1.0.1 and rerooted. Then I noticed after today's unexpected reboot/data wipe (the status screen during the reboot says it was wiping data) it again gave a message that it had just upgraded to 1.0.1 so I initially thought this was an issue with the device thinking the firmware upgrade was not quite done...
Mine quit working as well. Mine is a 1.0.0 that was auto-nootered. Everything was fine and I used it daily. Now it is a brick, nothing I do seems to make it boot. Every once in a while I can get the backlight to come on but nothing else and it just goes off again in a few seconds.
Rather than troubleshoot, I busted an 8 times reboot to go back to stock then re-rooted. Seemed like less headache, panic and stress.
If your NC dosen't boot at all. Try doing a dd of snowfox's boot.img in dev section. See thread for more info. You'll need to boot into NF from SD.

I have tried rerooting, and restoring through clockwork...it seems to always revert and bootloop. Although the reroot lasted a week and clockwork restore hasn't lasted 24hrs twice now.
Not sure what to do but My wife is ready to kill me! I'll have to go stock till someone finds a way to bust up this authorization or just wait I read some ROMs are being developed.
Have any of you disabled the otacerts.zip?
If you haven't it may be the problem.
I have and same on my wife's and neither of us have had any issue, and we use them daily.
I hadn't realized I should be doing this. I will try it. I am actually thinking that my first store purchase came w/ an update (my issue seemed to start right after a magazine trial purchase was made).
Thanks.

Thank you, I will try that. All the searching I did was for disable OTA NC and such but actually searching for OTACerts brought out many many threads that were archived on this subject... I can't wait to get home to try it!
I did not rename the ota file.... will give it a go.

[Q] Have you guys fixed the ghost call issue..?

It seems like most of people dont have the ghost call issue of gingerbread update. If not they haven't figured it out as it doesn't occur always. I checked it with my home phone. I made 10 calls and 3 of them were ghost calls.
There problem is with the baseband according to my knowledge.
Do we have to wait for the next update to overcome this problem.?
If we did, there'd be a thread about it.
Please use the search function next time.

I feel bad for all you people having ghost call issues. I would say for anyone having them to take it to your store you got it and demand a different one. I have tried all the gb kdz's and never once had ghost call issues. It might be a problem specific to individual devices being not everyone has them. And it seems like the people who haven't had GC once, haven't had them ever.
And so I have spoken it.. and so it shall be.
ahh :-( :-(
that means we are not going to receive and GC fixing update in the future. Unfortunatly im outside US and will not be able to go to any store.. :-( :-( :-(
Factory resetting (from the menu and also all options in recovery menu) before and after reinstalling GB did the trick for me. Didn't notice any GCs after that and never got complaints from family anymore. I was on my countries official GB though. When I was trying to use Rogers nothing could have stopped GCs for me.
Im on the at&t baseband. Factory resetting it didn't work for me.

So did I, for some reason the last time I did it worked. Like I said though, I didn't simply factory reset it. I removed the mem card, formatted internal mem card 3x, factory reset phone from settings 3x, boot phone into recovery mode and performed all wipes 3x, than installed GB on this completely blank slate, than did all that again before using it. I believe I did have 1 GC instance after that, I don't remember for sure if it was before or after I did all that, but than for at least 5 weeks I whenever I noticed white signal bars I dialed a number and sent myself a text. They always worked fine and I never got the RIP message. Also no one ever had trouble getting a hold of me or mentioned that they couldn't, and my wife is very vocal about that. That's how I knew I was having so many problems before the final straw that forced me to try all that. Either way I've now jumped ship and an happily using an iPhone 4S. Sure I miss my custom keyboads and stuff but my phone finally works smooth as silk and I never have to worry about it again.
