Yea thats because everything for apps2sd is linked to that one card. What you will have to do is just copy your ext partition to your other phone.
and how do you do the copy? Do you just mmake a new ext3 on the new card?
Swap is the bigger issue here and there's no way around that. Get a bigger card so you can put all your music on one card.

So I switched sd cards to a new 8gb class 6 one. I'm running mlign 3.2B right now. So what I did is I took all the stuff off the root of the card and put it in a folder on my computer. Then I opened up recovery with the new card in and put everything back on. When I rebooted it just loops at the htc screen with the android.

You never transfered all the files in the ext2/3 partition over. I would make a full BART backup including the ext partition on the old sdcard, copy the files from the backup to the new sdcard, and just restore it from there to get a full copy of your ext partition back.

well instead, I just did the following: in recovery I partitioned at 128, 512, and rest, then I did ext to 3 then 4. Then I rebooted to recovery, put the rom on, wiped data, dalvik, and ext, then I flashed the rom. Then it says htc provider has stopped working, along with google maps.
Did you format the ol card?
You could do the EXT+Nandroid option in Amon_RA.

well I did this just with it straight out of the box so no. Should I format it, and how?
every time I unmount the card it's fine, but once I remove the card the phone restarts.

You cant take the sd out of the phone while its on b/c of swap or app2sd being active still.

Hello everyone,
I am new to the hero and just rooted my phone using kitchen. I wanted to get an 8GB card and wanted to know what the process was. I didn't want to mess anything up so how do I change micro sd cards. I did a search but was unable to find the answer.
Are you using apps 2 sd?
If yes there is a guide
If no, then copy your data to your pc.. unmount the card(or turn the phone off) .. insert new card, format... then copy stuff back.
cool, never used apps 2 sd. Thanks! Will wait to get a new rom after.
Just remember its a mounted filesystem, if you just took it out that would be like unhooking your computer's hard drive. Probably going corrupt some data.
So just make sure the phone is off before switching cards?
i just made that mistake last night, burnt up an 8gb card, make sure phone is off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't need to turn the phone off. Right in SD Card and Storage Settings, there's a button to unmount the SD card. Hit that button, eject the card, then put the new one in and copy all the data back on via USB.

You shouldn't have been able to burn a card doing that. Maybe confuse the filesystem on it. If worse comes to worst, reformat the sdcard.
What items on the SD card are necessary? I did the root and there are two recovery images on there. I haven't done anything else besides rooting the phone.
Sorry dumb question, rooting doesn't change when changing cards right?
Since there is an SDcard discussion. Every time I play music the songs glitch at the beginning of the track and sometimes mid song..but always at the start UNLESS the phone is awake, then it plays fine.
Could it be the class of the card or that the phone wakes up after the end of every track and glitches? I still have the stock 2 gig card and was looking to get a higher class / more capacity to swap if that is the case. if not I'll just stick to my ipod shuffle.. bleh.

Nothing on the SD card is strictly necessary. Rooting and applying ROMs does not affect the SD card.

Necessary? Nothing. The phone should run without the sdcard even installed. Some applications aren't going to like it not being there, like the camera.
New card partition question
Stock hero with new 8 gb card. Will be rooting and using fresh 2.0 and apps2sd. Question is: Do i need to partition the card first before rooting or will it happen on its own when i flash new rom? thanks

No and no.
You only need to partition the card if you want it partitioned and partitioning it has zero to do with rooting or with applying a new ROM.

Yes, you'll need a ext partition for a2sd.

OK, so I just upgraded to a Transcend 8GB Class 6 MicroSD card from the stock card that was included with the phone originally.
Now, my issue is I have it partitioned for APP2SD and such for Nightlys.
If I partition the new card, I know I'll obviously take all the base data off my old card and put it on the new one. Now, all the apps and stuff on my ext3 part of the card....
Should I just:
A) Do nandroid backup +ext, put new card in and restore (I'm just taking a shot in the dark and assuming this would work)
B) Other method?
Any advice would be great
Shoot, my apologies.
I posted this in the development section by mistake. I had too many tabs open!
Well i just recently got a 32GB card. All i done was any apps i had on the sd card i moved back to the phone. Backed-up anything i had on old card (mp3s, photos etc). Plugged in new sd card, formatted it then thats about it.
Only thing that changed was beautiful widgets, but all that had to do is download some little file again.
Also, when partitioning, how much do you suggest for ext3? I was thinking about 32MB SWAP, 256MB Ext3.....ext3 is used for apps, right?
Thanks.

personally i don't think 256 is enough. i currently have 756 and have 100mb free.
you can just do a nandroid +ext backup and it will restore it correctly as all it does is tar the sd ext directories then extract them on restore. obviously the partition has to be larger or equal in size.
i didnt partition my card at all. Is that bad? Wont the phone do it when you format it?

Hi,
I have CM7.1 installed on a 2GB sdcard, but now i want to upgrade it to an 8GB sdcard but without losing everything that i have installed right now. How can i do this in order to keep everything working with the new card?
Thanks!!
You could use the WinImage (or whatever you originally used) to clone it to another card.

Thanks for your answer but what about the extra space? i think that if i use WinImage it will still leave the partitions using only 2GB instead of 8GB.
I used minitool partition wizard home edition which is free. Copy the card from the old card to the new card and move the partition to occupy all of the new card.

I downloaded that program but am not seeing my SD card listed. My SD card is drive G: but I'm not seeing it. I'm looking at moving from a 2gb to a 16gb SD card

You could try using Easeus, which is also free.
Thanks, I figured it out!
Hallo...
I've installed 2 different custom ROMs with Stock Kernels by 2 different methods (xRcvry and CWM),
On both ROMs, the SD Card is not detected as if it is unmounted, even though physically it is, and I couldn't mount it even by xRcvry nor CWM..
When I connect the phone to PC, there is no options to connect, or charge, like it usually is.
What have I done wrong..? Can anyone please help me..?
I'd be really grateful.
I tried that multiboot a weeks ago...but my original Rom, the Rom installed to the phone, it mounted my as card...but the problem was the other Rom didn't mounted it.....i couldn't fix it...

No, I didn't make any partitions...Should I..?
I didn't make any, because it's not part of the requirements for installing the custom ROM.
Btw, should the SD card be formatted into different file system, such as FAT, and not FAT32, prior to installing the custom ROM..?
From what I found here , the problem seems to be on the SD card class that we're suppose to use.
Mine is the original, which I believe is, class 2.
Could that be the same case as this...?

use card reader to check the format,,your sdcard must be FAT not NTFS
backup(just copy past all your folders) your sdcard then format it
turn on your phone WITHOUT sdcard..than turn on again WITH sdcard
now look..is it still not detect your sd card ,,

I've tried what you instructed (to format it from FAT32 into FAT), but, it's still unmounted (not detected)
Should I format it back to FAT32..?
What did I do wrong...?
Could it really be the card's class...???
Because, every time I flashed it back to Stock ROM by using SEUS, it always detects it.
I think it's sd card class....try a another card, don't buy a new... Just find a one from a friend or
