Problem with cyan 4.11.1.1 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

the newest cyan build.
I installed with wipe and without wipe, both times the rom works fine until I reboot.
I just dont get it! the problem seems to be after rebooting I use advanced task manager to quit apps that i dont want running, everytime I quit the actual task manger by clicking on end task it freezes!
i've tried to fix permissions but that doesnt seem to work either!
any ideas?
thanks
edit: no worrys I think its working now! (I hope) the only niggle is when I use the quick search, say for pizza, it showed my pizza places around my area, now it shows them in chicago! nothing against chicago but I dont think they deliver to poole!

com.google.process.gapps?

Does anyone know what com.google.process.gapps is? I think, im not quite sure, but it might have started coming up randomly after I moved the caches to my sd card. It doesnt do anything when I hit force close, everything im still doing stay the same, its just annoying having it pop up periodically. Does anyone know how I can fix this without having to wipe my phone or anything? Thanks
wipes suck..
I used astro to copy all my apps to my sd so all I have to do is install each one , one at a time which is tedious but better than the market and, I have now noticed if I hadn't done that Id have to buy all the apps since I bought a second G1 in white gave my black one to my wife after a wipe, then used the same sd to re install stuff to the albino one.
But it seems to me that this point other than pinpointing the problem to 1 or 2 apps then kill them and hope it fixes the problem, not alot is known about these lil' suckers so most of the time wipe is the only option, but all your contacts mail & stuff is sync'd from the goog servers so its not as bad as rebuilding most pda/smartphones.
soon im sure things will get easier and better
bhang
Yea I think im jus going to backup my stuff with mybackup, then wipe it, cuz its really annoying
Be careful with that. I encounter problem a while back, cant remember what I did to cause it, but when I rebooted I had to sign back in to my gmail account and couldn't get a data connection with the setup wizard. I had to reflash all the way back to rc29.
I jus wiped it and and used mybackup 2 restore everything, but I encountered a problem with Download Crutch, whenever I tried to install another app after I installed Download Crutch it would ask me to choose what app to use to install the other apps, Download Crutch or Package Installer, and it would freeze at [email protected] screen and say "Android has enountered an error" or smthin, and ask to wait or force close, but it wouldnt allow me to choose, it would just freeze. So I uninstalled it and successfully reinstalled my other apps, everything is fine now, im leaving Download Crutch uninstalled
Linda File Manager has a "download crutch" built in (lets you pick what to associate files with). Download crutch seems to be just that small part of linda file manager. best file manager, imo. Astro is juuust behind it

Would you say Discover is below Linda as well, cuz I use Discover
You should have just clear data of gmail application and error would have gone.
How do you "just clear the Google data"?

hi, I've cleared the gmail apps data just as the post above suggested, but the error still comes up... now everytime I open gmail it'll force close immediately.... appreciate any help.. thanks

com.google.process.gapps
I narrowed the problem down to "google talk" on my EVO. I went into settings about 30 mins ago and i haven't had a pop up yet.
If you frequently use Gtalk, there are other messaging apps such as Palringo that syncs with gtalk. Hope this helps!
try disabling Gtalk...worked for me.
How did you disable Gtalk? I removed Gtalk and it started having this issue in gmail... the only way I fixed it was by putting Gtalk back.
wiped entire phone and reinstalled everything again... dunno why this happens but when it starts I cannot revert it.

I think I had similar problems with my Googles Apps, and a few other apps. What I did was installed Titanium backup. Backup up the apps that I was having problem. uninstalled the apps, and reinstall them from the Market. And that solved my problem.
Hi!
I was experiencing the same problem, and I couldn't install anything from Market. The problem is caused by the gtalk service. If you have it uninstalled, you can get it from a dropbox link. Here it goes: dlDOTdropboxDOTcom PERuPER15246936PERgtalkservice.apk
Of remove the spaces and the other stuff. Unfortunately the forum does not let meg paste external links since i'm a newbie here.
A guy named SAPS uploaded it. Say hallelujah It solves both problems.
Cheers
Could you please give me some more details about what i have to do with this :
dlDOTdropboxDOTcom PERuPER15246936PERgtalkservice.apk
I also have the same problem. I can't download anyting from the market. And my knowledge about computers is not too much.

You press menu from your home screen
click on setting
click on applications
click on manage applications
click on all
click on "app name"
click on clear data
Don't ask me which app, cause I am still looking for it.
On my galaxy tab from tmobile, I cleared the following: contacts, gmail.
It fixed it
But on my G2 from tmobile, i ****ed up the sync, and had to restore it.
The app that I think that cause the problem for me was the bump app.

New Market

Is there any tmobile customer who actually likes this new market layout? Tmobile has replaced the "downloads" button with a "tmobile recommended apps" button. Not only is that self-righteous and gay, but all the apps there seem completely random besides the tmobile apps. Wtf.
Is there a way to push a non-tmobile version of market? Im not sure, but i dont think this is the new version 1.71. Mine still shows as 1.66. If anyone has 1.71 please post it here. Id rather have an updated market app than this gay ass layout change. Thanks.
I have v1.66 as well, and no I do not like the market.
I have never liked the market.
Category layouts are dumb.
People search the market in 3 ways.
They either know exactly what they want... Search Program Name
They know the type of thing they want... Search "program does this.."
Or they go window shopping. Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll...etc
The F*ing scrolling is driving me crazy! By scrolling through a huge list, I never remember where I was, and I have to constantly start over.
I want to be able to see what apps were uploaded each day. That way I can search a given day and know that there are no apps that I like for that time period.
Hmm what did the Dev's throw out yesterday....Oh cool! aw crap. Neat!
I stopped looking at their "recommendations" a long time ago.
I don't care what they think I might want. I sure as hell don't want My Account which has been listed as a #1 app since it came out.
For more experienced users..The F*ing program doesn't do anything that logging into your account, or using one of 20 other programs doesn't already do. Like I need ANOTHER battery monitor!
I just found a market app that might be better. Called My Market by Chris Hager- allows multiple filters, recommendations based on users comments, and you can bookmark items. Let you know how it goes.
OK this is one of those programs that you find once in a while that are the "OMG Why isn't this standard." type of thing.
It does have a little problem staying connected to the market server when I am using it, but....
I can scroll through all the apps in the market, bookmarking any apps that look interesting, and "Removing" ones that are not. (removing just hides them in a folder called "Removed")
I can mark an app as "recommended", not star'd like the market, but just a flag saying that I liked the program.
I can also email the market link for an app to someone from inside the program.
You do have to open the market to DL though which is kinda annoying, but the fact I can sort through stuff makes it totally worth it.
Yea i gotta say mymarket is pretty cool. Only thing that bugs me is that it looks like the old market from 1.1. Thanks for the suggestion.
So 1.71 is the market from 2.0?
I also noticed that apps I have installed originally from the market and later uninstalled due to a wipe or whatever. Then reinstalled from SdCard are now showing up as updates available. Would of been ok, however I have two apps I simply do not want to update and its annoying the heck out of me because I now have to look at them everytime I goto the market.
How did this Market update happen? I don't remember updating it or was it forced or a forced layout change or something?
Looks like you can go into Settings > Manage Applications > Market
Uninstall Market upgrade. Of course how long before that comes back.
I think this is the market you guys are talking about.
http://www.mymarket.cc/
I noticed in the /data/data/ folder there is two listings for the market. One being an upgrade and one being the regular.

Apparently it takes less than a day to come back. I uninstalled the T-market yesterday morning before work and it was back before the end of my work day. This kind of sucks. All their "update" did was make me have to use the physical menu button to check my downloads for updates. More time wasted and more wear on my menu button. Thanks T-Mobile.
I went into /system/apps and deleted the vending updater program. Also uninstalled the "update" to the market. Not having any trouble now. Was having a ton of trouble with stuff not install after downloading. The update hasn't come back yet either, so so far so good.
After my uninstall I haven't seen it come back as of yet.
Yeah the market app is kinda screwy lately. Literally last night before I went to sleep I was using it to download something.
I wake up today in the morning and it's completely gone I have never had that happen before.
Lets see if it comes back on its own through out the day hehe.
Honestly I really hope it's my rom doing something screwy though cause I would hate knowing that they can take off an app off my phone when ever they want just like that. WTF you know.

How did you uninstall the update? I just went to settings>applications>manage applications>Market--uninstall updates. I may try Gilliland12's method but I don't know what else that method may effect.
sxfx:
Many people seem to be having problems with the market on Cyanogen's latest. I always wipe and do a full install and I don't use a2sd, compcache or swap and I've had few to no problems with his ROM's (just some random reboots on one of the older versions).

Yeah Iv been using Cyan for as long as I can remember. I do use a2sd, and some swap nothing major.
But I don't seem to have 99% of the problems everyone else is having heh.
Just a glitch here or there but nothing I cant really figure out.
This market thing really just happened recently when tmo started screwing with it. I guess we will see what happens in the next few days .
Supposedly there is a really nice updated coming from Cyan sometime soon. ..

I would try wipe and reinstall. I used fix number 4 and my htc apps have been completely removed.
I have to agree, I am also still seeing com.htc.worldclock and com.htc.lockscreen and clicking on them does in fact cause a FC. But I can confirm that those apps are indeed uninstalled, so I don't see it as a huge deal. I don't like using the manage applications menu anyways because it takes so long to compute all the sizes and load all the names, so not a huge deal for me. You think that maybe whiping the dalvik cache might fix this? Just a suggestion, not sure what it would actually do.
I don't know i will try it i just hope it not related to a bigger problem
I tried wiping via recovery and it tells me to flash via adb shell I'm currently running recovery 1.5.2
I have found that even on 1.5 if you removed a system app after it was installed on the phone that it still left a trace on the phone. the way I got around it was just by downloading the ROM unzipping it changing what I wanted to change and then rezip and resign and then flash then there is no trace at all.
im not to sure how to sign a rom is there a good page tutorial for it.\
Thank you

Wiping Dalvik doesn't fix this problem for me. I have the same issue -- "ghost" items in your Manage Applications menu that you know you have already uninstalled.
One temporary fix I've found is if you go into the Manage Apps menu and "Clear Data" in either "com.smithmicro.DM" or "Download Manager", all the ghost apps and pieces go away. But this doesn't last through a reboot -- those all show back up again after every reboot, so it's not a permanent fix.
Any others have any luck with clearing these "ghost apps/pieces" out of the Manage Applications menu?
(I'm currently using ZenEXP MT3G ROM 0.9.6.3)
I haven't looked into it, but I noticed the same problem. The app list must be cached somewhere, which is interesting because it takes a good 10 minutes to load the app list every time i go to manage applications, which is why I rarely use it.

Accept terms whenever you access the market application?

Every time I press the market application it takes me to terms and conditions. Its not a huge hassle i just accept them over and over again. Anyone else?
not rooted
Did you try to clear the data from settings>applications>manage applications?

thanks for the reply. Yes i actually do that with a lot of apps pretty regularly.
I also just pressed Maps and it went through the initial page like its the first time to press it ever or after an update. It doesnt happen every time with this app but sometimes. Again its not a big problem just kind of curious...Im going to keep track of all of the apps this happens with, maybe its native apps only, not that that would necessarily mean anything to me. Oh well, i forgot to mention i have the test froyo so in all probability its just a temporary issue until the official 2.2 is released.
I'm alos using Froyo and i don't have this issiue. do you maybe have a app that clears everything, like cache?
What i noticed in Froyo you can clear everything, if you do this the app acts like a fresh start. I had this with browser, lost all my bookmarks. Luckily i had a backup with titanium.
I don't have an app like that afaik but it sounds like it could be the cause so I'm going to go ahead and check my apps again. Thanks
If you are running an app like Advanced Task Killer or any other task killer app, you need to make sure Maps and Market are on the exclude list. From what it sounds like, you have it set to kill apps whenever you turn the screen off. So when you click on Market, it asks you to accept. Try this. Go into Market. Hit Accept. Click the home button, then click back on market. Does it prompt again?

So i tried what you said and when i immediately reentered the market i didnt get the terms and conditions page. Ive accessed the market 4 times today and ive had to accept terms twice.
However i stopped using a task killer a month or two ago. Could it be some app interfering?
Also, I have one nexus one that i use just to charge a battery so i exchange batteries usually at least once each day, i wonder if that could reset it? Except Maps has worked fine all day and i have to go through the initial info screen in that app every now and again. strange...
One last thing. When i use Flikie HD wallpapers, about evry third time i use it it freezes my phone and i have to pull the battery, but im not exactly sure when i installed that app and i believe the market/maos and other apps issue began prior to installing it, but possibly not. A lot of factors in play here

Yeah, I just had the same issue with Angry Birds Seasons... maybe trying a data or cache clear on the market will help, haven't tried yet though.
You can just hit the thanks button too btw And, you're very welcome.
ok, just cleared data for market... Settings > Applications and fixed angry birds seasons for me, might want to try that.
I did not thank you with the button, as I did it through words, and I was in a rush. I'll try the clearing method and see what happens.
good stuff!
one thing you may want to add to your updater-script....
delete("/system/app/com.android.vending.apk")
and/or
delete("/data/app/com.android.vending.apk")
delete("/data/app/Vending.apk")
i know that some older versions of DT a2sd used to put an "extra" vending file in the data/app directory... and some ROMs (like my RCMix... which does use an updated market), have the "com.android.vending.apk" file instead of "Vending.apk"

Ahh, good to know, thank you.
Updated script and added the blue themed market to the op also... thanks again for the heads-up Tenzo.
People seem to be having FC issues with this, I am not. I will look into it more tomorrow. You can take the .apk out of the zip and place it in system/app with a file manager that can gain root or push it there with adb, that should work for sure. If you are STILL having FC issues... I'd stick with the older Market.
force closes
Ya I've tried all the different zip files for this on the forum and they all cause force closes. I would try the market fix but I cant download it off the store unless someone has an apk
This seems to be working great for me I installed and haven't noticed any problems as of yet.
Installed on KaosFroyo v38 with CFSv9 with no problem.
thanks for the blue one, works great and iv got a black/grey/blue theme thing going on
XDA droid eris forums are amazing keep it up
market opens up but every time I pick an app to download it force closes.
Just force closes on me as well, any updates to get this going?
Works just fine for me on CELB 3.9. Had to wipe the dalvik cache to get it to get past "starting download".
I just dropped it in system/app through root explorer, changed the permissions, and restarted instead of flashing. Loving the look of the blue themed one. I like the look of the update in general, but it sucks knowing that the looks came at the cost of 23 hours and 45 minutes worth of trial time for apps.

I totally agree. They could've made it at least 30mins or 1 hour. But it was mostly game makers screaming about refunds after 24hrs because so many people would beat the games within that time and refund. But, they didn't have to be so extreme with the change to 15 mins... is Steve Jobs working over there under the table?
The original market looks better in my opinion. The new one is nice but it cuts the screen more than half with the coverflow style and ads.
Wiped the cache and data for the market app and broke it. FC's now every time. Had to replace it with the old one with root explorer.
