Hello xda members,
sorry if this is the wrong section... first time posting here
anyway, had gone along with the process of installing cyanogenmod 6 onto a G1 and have successfully rooted my G1 earlier today... done all the steps up until the final step where you need to flash the ROM onto the G1. (Have downgraded to 1.5 as i was originally on 1.6)
Then came up with the E:can't find update_script file error.
And it did NOT finish installing the new ROM. (clearly)
Then silly me accidentally formatted the Microsd card. I still havnt realized why i did this.
But now i cannot get back any of the folders/files needed that go on the sdcard.
Tried copying the files and creating folders etc to try and force it to work but i still get the same error everytime.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am wanting to use Android 2.2
Regards,
Daniel.
recovery
are you using amon_ra recovery if so just enble usb mode and you will be able to put files back on your sd card.
no actually, i used the recovery.img... i tried putting the files back on from that img but i still got the same error as well as the cant open cache/recovery/command (obviously since there is nothing on the sd card)
i still got the same error once doing this. will i still get the error do you think with the amon_ra recovery?
i will try it at the same time as posting this
And now I'm at your mercy.
I received my Nook Color (1.1.0) today and immediately rooted it with Autonooter 3.0
After that, I went ahead and attempted to flash the Honeycomb rom. I was greeted with this error message in Clockwork and now no matter what I do, every time I clear everything and attemot to install a romm.zip, I get this error message in CWM:
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "zoom2" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "zoom2:
E:Error in /sdcard/romrestore.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Any help?
If clockwork works you should be able to fix it. Try downloading the rom again. I had a bad download once.

Sadly I've tried it a good 5-6 times. I get the same error every time. I've even tried redownloading CWM too in case of a bad download, nothing works.

are you attempting to use CWR from a SD card, or from internal memory? Which CWR version are you using? Also what are you selecting in CWR to install your zip file?
Have you tried Re-burning your SD card, it sounds like the image might be corrupted.
Also if you wiped everything try Restoring back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
Use this thread.
**O yeah also, which HC rom are you attempting to use, and did you check your download against the MD5?
Is it this rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071 it listed MD5. so you can make sure you download is not corrupted.

-Already tried that .zip, still no-go
Oh im not even trying HC right now. Just trying to get stock rom back first. I cant even boot into a rom anymore, it wont turn on unless there's CWM on the SD card.

Ok well that Link should work for you then.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
Also I was reading on the HC thread, and looks like the newest version requires EXT4 CWR, which is Version 3.0.0.6 the old version 3.0.0.5 will not work for CM7 or that new HC version. So if you were using the old version that would be the problem.
Don't worry you haven't broken your nook if you can still boot off the SD card, then you can Recover your nook. It might just take some reading of the threads.

My nook was 1.1.0, should I just re-download the 1.0.1 again and burn that and CWM on the SD card?

Just download the 1.0.1 zip files put it in the root of the CWR Sd card, and flash it to the system like any flashable zip file. Remember to Clear your System and Data partitions first. then once that is done you should beable to boot into a completely clean and freash non-rooted 1.0.1 state, Then just download the 1.1 update from B&N website, and do a normal update to 1.1 then you can Root it or anything you want.

If you are restoring to Stock 2.1 then the old one 3.0.0.5 will work fine,
if you need to install that HC rom, or CM7 then you wil need the 3.0.0.6 version which supports EXT4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959240
I'm pretty sure you can use that to flash EX3 partition as well, so that one will be good for using from now on till a newer version comes out.

This is the IMG file that you will need to burn to your SD card..... if your on windows I recommend using Win32Imager..... once you have your CWR sd card, Download the 1.0.1 Zip then drop that zip file into the root of the CWR SD card.... Boot off the CWR SD card. clear your system, data, and cache. Install the Zip file......
if you still can not boot after this you might have corrupted your boot Partition.
in which case you will need to download and flash THIS FILE which is a stock boot partition.
there are so many helpfully threads on this forum, you should really take some time and read through them.

Then I try to drop the romrestore.zip file on to the SD card and it says I need to reformat it. This would wipe the original win32 write, wouldn't it?

If windows is not seeing your sd card correctly then you either did something wrong or you sd cards is messed up..
Please tell me what windows you are using and what steps you did when you burned the img to the SD card... Also tell me what brand of SD card it is and what size.
also did you verify you download of the SD card img with MD5 checksum?

I was using win32 wrong.
Windows 7
Chose the file (recovery-clockwork-3.0.1.0-encore)
Chose the drive ( E: )
"Write" - It flashed just for a second
"Write" - Correctly wrote recovery-clockwork-3.0.1.0-encore to the SD
Put rom on SD card (romrestore.zip)
Put micro-SD into Nook
Cleared System/Data/Cache
Chose romrestore.zip
Received the same error.... again.
It's a SanDisk 4gb

When you "Chose romrestore.zip" what menu item are you using in CWR
You should be going to "install zip from sdcard" >then "choose zip from sdcard" > then select your zip... I assume you are doing it like this.
the only thing I can think of if you are doing everything write is that your Zip file is corrupted. or you permission are screwed up....
Please download http://www.winmd5.com/ and verify that the file matches the MD5 checksum...
If your using the 1.0.1 from the link I gave you then the checksum is this
md5sum: 6d00a461a221e69195440355f6706104
While I was waiting, I tried the CWM removal and that worked, I can get to the "Touch the future of reading" screen.
A step further but it's stuck there...
I am running ICS 4.0.4 on my rooted Bionic (obtained through House of Bionic) and can no longer flash custom ROMs, but am not sure why. (I've been trying to flash both a JB ROM and/or Google Now).
When I try to flash ROMs or zip files, it gives me an error message saying, "E: can’t open /sdcard/[file name]… (bad)"
I'm definitely still a noob, but eager to learn. Thanks in advance for your help.
I've tried using CWM, Safestrap, but without success.
Still can't install Custom ROMs or zip files, but new information
Fadtydawg said:
Safestrap3.05 works great. Are u using correctly? No offence. Check SD file and download...make sure file is there. I would delete the ROM and safestrap and reinstall. I've never had a problem yet. Back up ROM on safestrap incase anything goes wrong

Thanks for your response. I did remove Safestrap and am pretty sure I used it correctly - no offense taken.
I never installed the ROM, actually, because I couldn't (I'm still on ICS 4.0.4). But, I can try un-installing the ROM from my SD card, as well as the Google Now files there (also couldn't install so far).
But, when I tried to back up my current ROM with ROM manager (CWM 5.0.2.5), I received this error which might give us some more info to work with:
"Verifying SD Card marker...
SD Card marker not found...
Checking Internal SD Card marker...
SD Card marker mismatch...
Error processing ROM Manager script. Please verify that you are performing the backup, restore or ROM installation from ROM Manager 4.4.0.0 or higher. [I am - it's apparently 5.0.2.5]
Any ideas anyone?
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue."
Hey guys, So i've been having a ton of internal sd card issues.
First off I used the "Updated vibrant update guide" from cyanogenmod's old wiki.
I flashed semaphore 2.7.4.tar, went to overstock screen, phone said it was partitioning, I waited about 30 minutes, nothing happened, so I continued to another way to get into cwm.
Next,
I flashed cmnard-t959-cwm.tar, successfully gotten into CWM v5.0.2.7, Afterwards I gotten this error when tried to mount USB storage:
"E: Unable to write ums lunfile (No such file or directory)"
Next, I tried flashing back to stock rom using the JW4.tar's provided by another post. here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647890
Then I got ANOTHER error along the lines of:
"
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on dev/block/mmcb1k0p2
Formatting /sdcard.andriod_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
skipping format!
"
Another one was Error in /sdcard/dev/block/mmcb1k0p2 (status 0)
So then I figured, well I think I screwed the internal SD card, So then I tried the external replacement approach from this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906089
Same exact errors, even after using minitools partition wizard,
So then again I tried another approach.
Why not just try and flash cyanogenmod 9.1 stable in CWM anyways?
So I did, and it worked, but then I get prompted with:
"The encryption on the devices was unsuccesful, please reset the phone's data to continue"
So pretty much internal sd card is screwed, I've been staying up til 4am almost 2 weeks straight, and no solutions yet.
Please for the love of god help this poor sap of a man(me).
Thanks for reading,

I've done research over the last week or so, and pardon my ignorance for what I'm missing.
So, I'm trying to load android one ui 2.0 beta on my note 9 via sd card (model number sm-n960u). I know the beta files go in a certain oder, and I have all of them. But, each and every time i try to load the zip via sd card in recovery, it tells me "Error in sideload/package.zip (Status 7)"
Btw, I'm doing the sideload from sd card method because I dont have a computer. So using odin and smart switch isnt an option. And also, I'm on t-mobile on the December security patch update.
Thanks in advance for any help!
