hi everybody. im yakir from israel and i have the sony ericsson xperia for the past 6 months, as the other people who have it probably know and testify its very contradictory and unbalanced device, it's have a lot of very useful & distinctive features and attributes, on the othe hand, it not have enough performance such processing power relatively to the apps and potential programs available high quality video and graphics like online when the opera browser stucks for several seconds frequently. personally, i'v experienced many fatal and badly consequential occasions with this device, for example for more than four months i have problems with the clock, i put it on jerusalem time which is GMT+2 on the general clock, and on the second panel (the one with the temperature and the analog clocks and all that) i choose my city and put it on DST and its allways change the general clock along with the whole calendar appointments and tasks hour or two more or less, it was frustrating, not only because missing calendar items and tasks means missing money and many more, never mention have not be sure about the time, but because i was by myself in this array - theres very few owners of xperia in israel that you can be advised with, it's also not supported by the 3 major cellular companies in israel, bit except Orange that at least try to assist by HTC devices available handy which was mostly successful and this is the reason why i now subscribed with this company. even the sony ericsson official representative in israel dont give a damm - and i'v tried many times - they say that they dont know how to operate this device and they dont have it, basically a lot of bs i dont remember exactly but definitely remember the final result - they never help, and they not even try. thares more things with my experia such as that i cant do very basic thind that we regular from pc windows XP or VISTA, for example to check the size of folder or file and the general file properties very poor that even older and less sophisticated sony ericsson devices has more properties and details, and more these sort of problems.
i say all this things because what's happen several days ago was the straw that broke the camels back - i try to install an hebrew program, which, in addition to all above, make me a lot of suffer during the past 6 months, i dont remember what's happening but now when i turn on the device it's stucks on the green windows mobile screen, afterwards theres that message say somthing about turn on the device not correctly or boot problem somthing, that i can click on the volume up button to reset but it will erase all my personal data(!) or any other button to continue, of course i dont give up all this bloody data so i try to all buttons to continue - nothing happen. now i restart the device by removing the batarry and by the recessed reset button at the back of the device several times trying to save my data and i wasnt success, even wrose now when i turn on the device it's shut down after the green screen, thank to the experia for console my with two alert sounds during this tiring time before shutting down.
i called to sony ercsson in the united states for more than two hours, thay mentally kill me when they tell me that i have to loss all the data and i have no any backup for it so im dead! i try to back things up several times ago with the active sync but it wasnt successful, and back there, i wish it was be the least of my device problems...
please someone!!!

.. so you basically killed your x1 by installing 1000000000 apps.. and you come here saying you want help..
and you even blame sony ericsson for things that are with windows mobile.. dude get an iphone .. really..
And dont post in 4 threads.. just post 1, imagine what would happen if every one did that..
So wait, let me get this right: you haven't ever backed up your phone using ActiveSync, MS MyPhone or PIMBackup and you don't have the information anywhere to do a backup manually?
Oh dear! But look on the bright side - you'll never do that again!
have a question?
post only a question once
i have removed all other posts
Ermm I don't know how should I put it but I was able to read only the first 5 lines of your post then I got bored.
Hi Yakir
Looks like you're learning the hard way about the importance of backing up! ActiveSync is only one way... I've found MS MyPhone and Google's Sync service to be excellent.
Anything on your memory card is probably fine, but if the device can't boot it's unlikely you'll be able to rescue anything from there . If you have critical data, you may possibly find someone who provides a service to restore data, not sure.
I think you may have to just go for the hard reset though to restore your device, and then try some of the fine ROMs available right here to make your X1 a thoroughly pleasant device
Shalom,
Joe
so sorry to hear that
there seems to be no hope of getting back PIM
vietdoan20062006
ok.
again - i rty to backup the data many times. and again it wasnt successful..
in short: u are screwed.
use pimbackup or the active sync stuff next time.
Let it go. Your Data is gone. Move on.
Do a hard reset. This will wipe your device and restore factory settings. Hold down both left and right buttons on top of the pickup/hangup buttons, and press the power button (do not hold the power button). Follow instructions.
Next i recommend that you do one of the following:
1) Sell your device and get a non-WM device which isn't going to give you 6 months of suffering. Nokia's are good for this.
2) Update your ROM with some of the great ones available on this site. For you probably a win6.5 clean one would be best. If you don't know what ROM is, go to step 1.

OK... I dont know how many times this answer or question has been asked on XDA, but I know for a fact that since i have had my first ever pocket pc phone, the PP-6600, which was about mid-2005, this situation has been a general problem with Virtualy everyone who has ever owned a PPC or
smartphone! (Maybe i will get my name in lights as a sticky post for this answer!!)
BUT HERES THE SITUATION... YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO GRADUALLY BECOME SLOWER. SOON ENOUGH YOU CANT EVEN SLIDE YOUR SCREEN AND ACCESS YOUR KEYBOARD WITHOUT A 30-45 SECOND DELAY, OR IN MORE EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO LOCK UP SO MUCH THAT EVEN A SOFT RESET DOESNT SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT FOR ANOTHER FEW HOURS IF THAT. ON THE MOST EXTREME LEVEL, SOME PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THEIR PHONE JUST SHUTTING DOWN AND THE WHOLE ENTIRE ROM REBOOTS ITSELF THUS FORMATTING YOUR PHONE, ERASING ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS, PROGRAMS, ETC.
Well please dont blame or consider the rom developer's anymore if you ever thought it was the Rom's fault, or even the pagepool...
But after all is said and done, my phone just lost EVERYTHING and reset itself, and I had well over 1700 messages that i really needed that had alot of important information in them! After calling HTC tech support, and even going to my MSDN buddies, i didnt find anything or any help that i didnt already know... So when i broke down and finally called T-Mobile Billing to see if they could recover in any way my messages from a server... and of course the representative said its not possible.... BUT THEN SHE SAID SOMETHING THATCOMPLETELY ANSWERS AND SOLVES THE PROBLEM OF THAT NEVER HAPPENING AGAIN!!!
For those of us who send and receive LOTS of text messages daily, weekly, monthly..... That is the problem with why our phones begin to bog down, and eventually cause us hair loss and mood changes... LOL... Depending on the model of your phone, and how much Ram it carries with it, the phones are built to AUTOMATICALLY RESET THEMSELVES, as a last resort when it begins to get overloaded with text messages... especially threaded sms, and mms... but the first symptoms of overload is gradual slowdown of how quick your phone either switches to another app, or rotates the screen, or even
keyboard response time... 75% of this is caused by your phone having too many messages stored on it! There's really nothing you can do to remedy this other than deleting half or more of your text messages when u notice this happening, or obtaining some kind of regular pc program which will allow you to sync and download all your messages to your PC and thus allowing u to delete them all from your phone, and free up the excess memory... Now I dont have any knowledge of such a program and i would really LOVE some suggestions if someone knows of such an application... But my point was to address and hopefully solve this ongoing question!...
Now the credits.... Her name is - Tonya P. - and she is now with T-Mobile Billing... but look for her to soon join us, because we talked for over an hour, and she definitely knows ALOT about HTC phones that some of us may benefit from! She used to specialize in HTC phones and was assigned at T-Mobile as a support tech for them...
OK hopefully this post will help some of you...

EDIT*******
Shortened.. but it must be explained in detail to address all the different problems which occur do to this feature...
and you can dispute it all you want fellows, but i have 10 friends who volunteered to help me test this by putting our
unlimited text messaging to the wall... Using mass SMS software, they were able to send me 1500 text messages to my HTC
8925 and that was the starting point for the phone just doing its own soft reset / for non responsiveness!....
At 1791 messages the phone shut down, and all of my customizations/contacts/programs/messages disappeared!! ... The
phone dropped to Athine OS Rom which was flashed before we started the test. But it was really a NAKED copy, which i
DID NOT flash to the phone.... and also i noticed that because of the HARD SPL... it was unable to fully format the phone so instead it just erased all my PERSONAL DATA / CUSTOMIZATIONS ... and the memory tab under settings said 116mb used ... but this has been tested and confirmed... I have no reason to make up a situation that will keep you from texting your heart out... I simply am trying to save some of you the EXTREME HASSLE that i am going through now, because i no longer have any of the information that was saved in my sms messages, and so i am about to lose $15,000 ... all because HTC never explained, or even warned that such a thing could happen!
So if its too long for you dont read it!... Im sure alot of people will thank me for going into so much detail so they could pinpoint exactly which scenario is/has occurred with their phone and can maybe prevent the disaster!

you lost me.
keep it short and sweet
Simple and short...
Delete you old text messages. The allegedly bog your phone down. I say allegedly as mine has over 1000 on there all threaded and it is still a zippy as the day I flashed it.

Yep, as above it appears (in short) that the poster is suggesting that text messages (and I guess MMS/email too) will start to fill up your storage memory, once the memory is full it may cause your Kaiser to hard reset itself.
...That sounds pretty scary. The worst I've ever had is a popup warning me that 'Storage Memory is Critically Low' - If I take action and clear out old messages/email it speeds up a bit, if I ignore it, applications freeze and the handset is unresponsive until soft-reset.
...Worth bearing a potential autonomous hard-reset in mind just in case though I guess...

Rob.
My stock T-Mobile Vario 3 has been performing fine for two years, until yesterday when for some reason Bluetooth would not enable when I clicked on the icon (otherwise the phone seemed fine) so I did a basic Windows shutdown/reboot as I have plenty of times in the past.
The boot initially got stuck on the first white T-Mobile boot screen with the ROM/etc revision numbers on, and would not go any further. I removed and re-inserted the battery and tried again several times, and after a couple of tries it managed to get as far as the first green Windows load screen before sticking again.
I think it must have hard-reset itself at some point during these attempts though, as now it will sometimes go as far as the default "tap screen to calibrate display" message, which I can tap and then see the central cross-hair. If I tap on this quickly enough it sometimes moves the cross-hair up to the top-left, but then it locks and won't do anything else unless I disconnect the battery again. That's the best I've been able to get it to do so far.
Help! Any ideas?
Andre
I came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get my old system back so I forced a hard reset myself (two soft-buttons & reset hole) and it has now reloaded to factory default, but as least it's working which I rather doubted it would be.
Photos, music etc were all on the memory card, and contacts/calendar info were daily synced to my PC, so there only some old SMSs lost which isn't too bad.
Oh well, I guess I can now look around for a more modern ROM for it (now that there's nothing on there to backup/reinstall). Anyone got any particular favourites? (as there do seem to be a lot around!)

Since there are a lot roms out there, the only one who knows what is looking for is you..yes...you...Andre because, what's favorite for me probably will not be "favorite" for you, that's why there are so many options out there. Try a couple of them (6.1 or 6.5) it does not take a long time to flash them (< 10 minutes). After that, you will come up with your favorite as many users in these forums. You will definitely will enjoy the flashing and testing the different roms!. That's what I feel LoL
Hi all
I am a newbie here but I have been modding and reg editing my phones for some time. Today I had a serious incident which I have never seen before. My password prompt came up as usual after the tomeout period but the 4 digit simple password wasn't accepted. The password is DEFINATELY right and when I press cancel I get a brief flash of the today screen. So unable to go around this I hard reset the device. Fine. Reboot. Fine. Restore a Backup from 3 days ago (SPB Backup) and boom another password screen appears. One I have never seen before. After getting the password wrong a couple of times a countdown timer appears and doubles the number of seconds I have to wait between attempts. 2 seconds, 4 seconds, 8 seconds, 16 seconds etc etc. This looks and behaves like a virus but HOW can it be in my backup?
Please help me recover my beloved X1.
Cheers
Magyver
Update..
I am quite surprised not to have had any replies to this as usually this forum is quite active.
I tried a new tack last night and reinstalled my SPB backup on a hard rest (again) but this time I only restored certain elements, which SPB Backup allows you to do, this succeeded in getting my PIM data back (phew) so then I tried some but ot all of the registry. Eventually I was able to incrementally bring the phone back up to "4 days ago" HOWEVER in this process my phone memory "storage" section became full! Of what, I have no idea as when I do a search there isn't any big stuff in there. I am totally baffeled, so if anyone has any ideas observations comments on how I can deep scan the "storage" memory to see what is going on I would be greatful. There does appear to be an awful lot of "manila" files in there but I can't remember what I installed or removed which might require manilla files.
Come on guys, I feel like that teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day Off;
"Bueller, Bueller, Bueller.........."
1 - Are you on a custom ROM
2 - Just look whats on your storage card and tell us what it is and which ones are newest and taking up the most space.
3 - What did you last install before it broke first time?
both official roms and custom roms have bugs
but virus's are not cross platform so a pc virus could never work on a wm device because it's not the same os
and the market % of wm devices mean few virus makers will spend too much time making custom virus's for your phone
there are maybe a handful read here

Being rather new to android based tiny wee computers that just happen to make phone calls I am just a bit reluctant to 'experiment' with my shiny SGS (hence not previously applying anything but normal apps). Having said that, last week after reading of the whizzyness of FROYO via the registry hack, I went and convinced kies that it was swedish and popped FROYO on my phone. After some nail biting it whizzed along like a new-new toy and I was one happy bunny.
Although I am still very happy with it it has one or two niggles such as Skyfire, as of today, locking up and FCing after 30 secs of use for some reason (not tried just reinstalling yet so that may help) and the odd freeze with Angry birds etc requiring a reboot. I am Vodafone contract in the UK (but not with a branded phone even before the froyo) and was told ages ago i would get an OTA update when it came out.
I saved a copy of the original kies registry keys just in case but just wondered (a) is reverting to Eclaire is possible, and if so how? (b) will popping the old settings back into the kies registry cause WWIII and an alien invasion if i reconnect my SGS (c) When, eventually, i get the OTA notification will this overwrite the current OS no matter what or will it just go meh...i can't be bothered?
All relevant data/contacts etc were backed up on the PC prior to the update.
Cheers

I have some other basic questions for my new Galaxy 5 which I am very close to hurling at a wall.
First and foremost, how do I turn off the "always on mobile?" I can find the always on button, which is green for on, but pressing it doesn't turn it off. That box appears to be greyed out. I know it seems odd that I'd have a phone like this and not use the internet, but I buy minutes instead of contract (typical here in Dubai) and I went through about 3 months worth of minutes in about 4 days. grrrrrrr
Second, on my old phone (a Treo) to check my minutes, I dialed *121#. In a second or 2 a screen would pop up telling me how many minutes I had left. On this phone, it seems to go through the process, but never actually pops up an answer screen.
Third, in setting up my phone, I told it I have a gmail account, which I do. It pulled a massive and utterly out of date address book from my gmail account and made it my default address book. How can I delete this or at least make it NOT my default?
Fourth, I've been promised that I will adjust to the pad of finger press process instead of my perfectly good and utterly accurate fingernail. When am I going to stop pressing the wrong buttons? Is there a way to make it sensitive enough for a fingernail instead of a sausage finger?
Fifth, I'm trying to sync my outlook calendar with the phone. It's erroring out, saying Execution Privilege prevents accessing Outlook. Please try again with Administrator .... (I lost the end of this because I decided to kill the phone and start from scratch)
I am a broadcast engineer and have been a Linux user for the last decade. So when Android hit it was only a matter of whose device. After a lot of research and waiting for 6 months for the initial “teething pains” to pass selected the Captivate for several reasons.
As a broadcast engineer 24/7 reliable cellular communication with data is a professional necessity not a convenience. For that reason my wife always has the same phone as I carry as a backup. If mine gets broken or unusable for any reason we switch SIMs and I am back to work. So we both received our initial “trade up” Captivates at the same time. About 25 days after receiving our phones mine started randomly shutting itself off. After three warranty replacements finally got one that stayed on. Six months later wife's was replaced due to no audio from the speaker. Later after my father past my mother merged into our family plan and choose Captivate as well.
So we have three Captivates in our family. Love the phones. Mine by my nature is loaded with “all the bells & whistles.” Lots of app, widgets and rooted. As soon as I am comfortable with my choice and feel prepared will take the plunge and try flash a custom ROM. More than likely several through ROM manager of some kind. I really like to looks of the four tap lock and other features only a custom ROM is going to get you. Besides I am a “power user,” which my wife thinks translates to “if it works, it doesn't have enough features.” My wife has a few widgets & apps as well as my mother to a lesser degree.
In the last 90 days we all three have been experiencing something that I describe as a “loop soft rebooting.” Started with my wife, she described it a “loop rebooting.” Every weekday from 10:00 to 10:20. Once I had a chance to observe I found it does not do a complete reboot. It does not show the shut down animation like a controlled shut down. Or the turn on animation like a power up after a complete shut down or OS crash. I would describe it as more like a “soft boot.” Almost like a launcher crash, but it also has to rescan the SD media. It vibrates once with the screen off or on, in use or out. then twice more, another 8 to 10 seconds another vibrator alert then the launcher appears and starts to load widgets, apps & scan media. Completely unresponsive to any key input until after the launcher reopens. The wife has never used anything but the AT&T/Samsung stock launcher. I did all the usual things. Backup, factory reset, restore. Still does it. Backup, Hard reset, restore, still doing it. Hard reset, rebuild from scratch, no restore, stayed completely vanilla, no apps or widgets at all. It still does it. Then mine started doing it. I was using ADW Launcher, switched to Launcher Pro, have even dropped down to using the original launcher since it acts like a launcher crash. No affect. Went through all the above same process with the same results. Mine does it's act between 5:00 & 5:20. About a week later my mother reported hers does the same thing between 4:00 & 4:20. Interesting side note, if we turn off the radio (airplane mode) it does NOT do it, completely stable in PDA mode. But when we turn the phone back on, it then starts the process and runs for 20 minutes and stops. I have been collecting logs off my wife and my own phone but work duties have not given me the opportunity to read through the thousands of lines of logs to find a “smoking gun.” Now in the last week we see the same activity more often and for longer periods. Because turning off the radio stops the activity there has to be a trigger from the network. It also uses lots of data during these periods. Maxed out my wife's data plan the last 3 months. We have Lookout Security installed on all three phones and it reports no Trojan's, viruses etc... Also the Hard reset should have killed anything like that. I have done hard resets three time on my wife and my own phone and rebuild from scratch now. We have left her phone completely factory fresh only adding back her contacts through Gmail. I have Titanium Backup and have tried “freezing” & unfreezing” everything I can think of. Nothing but turning off the radio seems to effect this issue.
Has anybody out there experienced anything like this???
Damn dude, can I get the cliff notes?
If you're thinking of taking the custom rom plunge, I would say to go for it. The reason I suggest this is that most custom roms will also flash a different modem, which might allow your phone to connect to the towers in a way that will prevent the hot reboots you're seeing. Just make sure to do the normal backups (Titanium backup) of stuff you want to save before flashing.
^ +1
sound74145,
yeah since ur rooted, i would suggest flashing a different modem (radio) if u don't want to flash a Dev Rom yet.
What is ur Baseband version now... i897uckb1 ?? If so try i897ucKH3.
Check the modem stickied thread. It should be attached behind the paperclip at the title of the thread.
