Has anyone attempted to/willing to try to implement this on the Captivate?

This is really interesting. I'm into astronomy and it would be awesome to not have the phone blind me everytime I turn it on during an observing session to use it for google sky and the atomic clock.
Apparently no dev types are interested enough to tell us that they are not interested.

No doubt.
This thing is blinding even on the lowest brightness setting.
Yes, the brightness is pretty ridiculous. Is this because of the AMOLED screen? Can't set brightness below "blinding" due to no backlight?
I have heard that the leaked I897UCJH2 rom has a lower mininal brightness; which might help with the blinding brightness at night, and also helps bettery a bit.
Not sure if you guys are interested in leaked ROMs but I'm sure if Samsung does not release it that a cook will make a custom rom from it.
looks awesome
Bump.
I think this would be extremely useful.

Me too. I'm jealous of the iphone star map program. The authors were smart enough to make it all black and red. You can tell none of the google authors star gaze in their spare time with all that color.

on Google sky map theres a night mode option when you press the menu key.
I seem to recal hearing that at a certain point when the voltage is too low the screen will still work, but you see glitches/artifacts.
So im assuming this is why the min brightness is set where it is.

There is that very low brightness that occurs when you have less than 10% battery life. I wish they would make that brightness user selectable.
Even if the screen cannot be physically set below a certain level of brightness, it would be trivial to have the OS do the equivalent of putting a partially-transparent black rectangle over the screen. Sure, color fidelity would suffer, but it would be a welcome option anyway--I have seriously considered wearing sunglasses in bed.

wow, i think your right.
instead of trying to set the brighness lower just put a transparent gray object that sites on top of all the windows.
It would have the same effect and save tons of battery.
You can!

Search for a widget called Curvefish Brightness Level in the market. Set it to 0% brightness, which appears to be the same as the low battery life brightness.

Since the keyboard disappearing issue has been resolved with the new ROM, it may be a good time to share the Tile World Clock Tool.
Features:
1. Pin the clock for any timezone you choose to your desktop
2. Clock will be updated every minute.
3. 8 different clock types to choose from.
4. Dynamic updated tile according to your theme.
Disclaimer: The clock on the tile may not be correct for various reasons. Please use the system clock for important times.
1. When background updating is working, the clock may delay for 1 minute.
2. When backgrond updating is not working for various reasions, for example, battery saving mode. The clock on the tile will stop.
2012.01.11: Update to 2.2. Minor update. The clock will be slightly more accurate (Delay within 5 seconds in my test)
2012.01.31: Update to 2.3. Supporting Wide Tile as requested. Require InterOp Unlock. This version may not be very stable at this moment. Is this the first Home Brew that supports dynamic wide tile?
Help Needed: Is there any good code who can save PNG file with low footprint and high quality?
2012.02.29: Found a really memory efficient PNG encoder. Now it is time to continue my development.
2012.03.14: Update to 2.5. More customization options available. You can even choose a picture from your library as background.
2012.03.22: Added a slightly updated new 2.5 XAP. Changed a few background images. Fixed a bug so that two line style Time/Date is correctly displayed at center.
For me it took around 5-6 (sometimes around 10) minutes to update the tile, with background tasks running. Nothing can be done i guess.
But an awesome app, nonetheless.
Thanks
Very Nice App. I had no issues in time update with background update turned on. We also did a video review on wpxbox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBoreopVpuk
I will suggest you to give user option to how often they want to which can be anything between one minute to 30 minutes.
A bit more but you can think of combining reminders with each tile so it triggers them in that time zone.
Thanks.....Good application works properly on my Omnia 7

Thanks for the review.
Is there anyone interested in a clock that can delay upto 30 minutes?
As for the reminder, I think counting down and time ellapsed/stop watch could be good ideas.
could you make this app luks more offficial? Obiviously you used the wired font fron the default OS tile font, it need tweaks

That's good suggestions that I should take. Unfortunately, I am not so good at UI designing. If you have more specific suggestions, pleaes let me know.
Delay till 30 minutes can be only suitable for one set of time, When I get to sleep. Saves Battery. Please do correct me if I am wrong.
If you could make the tile look the the HTC sense flip clock this would get a gazillion downloads especially if it does update properly every minute

The clock images can change but no animation is possible. But my intention is to match the tile format since art is not my specialty. If anybody interested in making it more beautiful, please let me know.
Clock Name bug
I discovered a bug when entering a Clock Name that uses a space such as "New York". After using a space I am unable to enter any more characters - the keys no longer worked. But, I could get around this by exiting the app and starting it again and continuing the "York" part of the clock name.
Other people that only include cities without a space in the name would not encounter this bug.
So far, a good & practical app otherwise as I have only used it for 20 mins.
Well done!
Another cool app after the office/pdf uploader. I really like it !
Could you allow to add a custom background (.jpg) image for the live tile ?

Can't find any code in this page that will lead to this behavior. And the same issue did not appear in my test. However, your symptom looks very similiar to the keyboard disappearing bug of Mango. You may want to upgrade to 8107 or disable background task to verify.

Any specifics for this request? Select a picture from the phone library? If so, that will involve quite a bit of image resizing work.

Selecting a picture from the picture hub only allows to use .jpg files.
I would prefer to choose a picture from the isolated storage of your app so it´s possible to use .jpg or .png files. The files can be copied easyly to the isolated storage with Windows Phone Power Tools. Just a suggestion...
Anyway it´s great. I have tested it over the night and the tile didn´t stop to work.
The difference to the system time is max. 1 minute....

Understand your point. Don't think this a common request but I will try when I got time.
As for the time difference, my application currently runs every 60 seconds. That's where the difference comes from. But I recently found a way to reduce the difference to, let's say, five seconds. I upload the new verion when I complete it.
Hi everybody here,
I'm an Android developer for years, but now I want to try something new in Windows Phone section. Currently, I want to create a clock app with beautiful and smooth UI for free. I want to ask you guys here about, what feature do you want a from a clock app?
Now I should have: hour/minute/second/mini-nanosecond clock; alarm; timer with animation and translucent theme
Do you guy want anything else? Customization maybe? Just let comment!
Thank all!
A text-clock (e.g. no 12:30 but TWELVEthirty). Not very useful but it's trendy lol

Binary time on the lockscreen, it doesn't matter if its every minute or every half an hour. I asked someone else to implement that, but they didn't want to put the time in.

Afaik, we can not have a custom real clock at lockscreen, so it should be a trick to use a dynamic image which have current time drawn in it. So if the "clock" is updated every minute, it should be harm to battery.
I will discover more to know if there is another way to do it. Thank you!
Can we have a clock that is updated "on-sight" in WP8? It's not possible, is it?
I would want a clock with various style options: analog, digital, text, binary,... The HTC Sense style clock is great also.
And implementation of stopwatch or countdown timer? Metronome and alarm?
A customizable double-sided live tile.
A clock updated every minute will drastically drains battery, while a clock updated every 30 minutes doesn't really count as clock, I think.
So it'd be better to have an option for switching between real time, 1 minute, 30 minutes or manual update mode, for personal preferences? Like we don't need the clock updated while asleep, do we?

You could always use static images and have it updated every 15ish minutes. Anyways I don't think every minute is plausible for an app that sets the lock screen could be efficient anyways. e.g. Fuzzy time

Hi, i just want to see time on live tile update real time in every minute..!!! i dont like this bull **** updating after 30 or 40 minutes.. what is the purpose of a clock when i cant see the actual time on my start screen and plz make weather clock too
an alarm (of course) but with an option to disable the snooze button
Hi Guys,
Is there a way to automatically turn off the screen at night (during a specific time).
Is there any app to do this ? Or tasker/IFTTT/Tockle profile to do the same ?
I would like a swipe-from-the-right switch similar to the mute switch (swipe from top) which puts the watch into airplane mode and deactivates the always on mode, too. (=night mode)
WatchMaker app just got (after the last update) tasker plugin. You can switch different faces based on different parameters. If you build a face with dim mode - off and you will activate-it after midnight (as an example), then you will get exactly what you want.
Any example for this.. I am unable to figure this out
You need to install "tasker" also, in parallel with "watchmaker".'Go to watchmaker app and create the watch face you desire (or download one from the internet - there are plenty to choose from).
Take the watchface of your choice and create a duplicate.
On the duplicate add a BLACK png file on top of everything and activate-it only in dim mode.
Then, set-u tasker to switch on the duplicate face while it's night and to the original face in the rest of the day.
Now, you will basically have the same watchface in all circumstances, but at night, the dim mode will just be black (which, in the amoled world, means, screen off).

you can do the same thing without Tasker:
add a BLACK png file- or even better: a shape with the color black and size of 512x512px - on top of everything and activate-it only in dim mode
then use the following formula in the opacity field:
{dh23} > 18 and 100 or {dh23} < 7 and 100 or 0
red indicates the time in which to apply the filter (in my case between 19:00 and 07:00)

yes, WatchMaker is great on its own - but I really love the tasker integration!
I'm using the above formula to set a 50% opacity shade during the night hours in order to dim the screen
btw: the same thing should be possible with Facer

i have used tasker to set the black watch face in the night. but 1 problem, watchmaker works only when one of the faces from watchmaker is selected. If i select any of stock watchface, the tasker thing does not work as it is mentioned in watchmaker app description that to change the face one of the watchmaker faces should be selected on the watch..
Of course it's working like that, seriously, what have you expected?
If/when the main wear app will allow changing faces remotely via tasker (or it will offer an API for that) then we will be able to do that.
Anyway, my watch is turning off by itself while it's placed in the charger. It will not turn off immediately but after few minutes.

I haven't tried it myself, but FaceLift could be what you are looking for
it should allow you to switch to watchmaker (which you have to pre-set with a black image) and back to the stock face at certain times

As I understand it, praddz wants the watch to turn off during a certain time frame, not when charging
If you want the watch to turn off immediately when charging and are willing to enable developer options, for me it works to set the keep screen on option to enabled
At night I just deactivate Screen Alway ON to have screen off while charging. So easy that changing face or other workaround no ? Long press button and just click on screen parameter.

Figured I'd chime in that changing faces from the app is confirmed for the Lollipop/Wear 2.0 update rolling out this week. On another note, it would be cool to have the 5.0 notification system integrated into Wear, so things like Quiet Hours, Priority interruptions, etc. Maybe someday.
Am i missing something? My watch automatically turns the screen off when it's on the cradle, after about 10 minutes.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to force night colors in android auto. The day colors look so washed out for some reason and was hoping to just use night colors all day long. Thanks!
And while I am at it, does anyone else think that the traffic symbols in Google Maps is way too thin to see clearly. Would rather have it more like it is on the actual phone.

On my 4100NEX, I have the ability to manually set the night/day mode trigger. It can be auto-triggered by the headlights, or set on a timer. You could probably set it to run on a timer, and set it so it pretty much stays in night mode all of the time.

I messed around with the the settings for a couple days. First, I had it set go into (and out of) night mode at a specific time. Around the same time as sunrise/sunset. Now I just have it set to night mode because I too prefer that setting. It also seems to make the traffic lines more visible. Would be nice if satellite layer was an available option too.

Activate developer mode in Android Auto and one of the dev options is to force night mode.
