After my first 8GB class 2 card starting playing up i bought a new 8GB class 6 whiched arrived this morning. I placed it into the SD card slot on my laptop and all was fine. I added the ROM's i wanted to flash to the SD and booted into recovery to flash them.
I partitioned both my SD cards using Paragon Partition Manager and now BOTH cards aren't being read by my SD card reader.
When i boot into recovery, then console and ums_enable it says windows needs to format.
When ever i try flashing a ROM i allways get the boot sceen hanging. Does anyone know any solutions onto fixing either one or both cards?
Thanks
try partitioning to fat32 within the phone and then formating using cm 1.4 recovery image
I've just managed to get it working and can get it recognised using ums_enable in console, but still ALL ROM's i install seem to just boot loop

I have a Transcend 8gb Class 6 microSDcard.
I turned the phone off to put the card in a card reader to reformat....i noticed that in Paragon Partition Manager 10 Server, that my sdcard is only showing as it being all a ext3 partition.
However windows vista can still read the fat32 partition and so can the g1....I am running JACHero's Roms...I have the new radio/spl and cyno's recovery. My g1 is working fine.
I just want to format the sdcard so i can put a updated JACHero rom on it.
Have you tried using Ubuntu? I find that better than paragon.
heres what i did...and it worked. i got the jailbrake cupcake and put my sd card in a usb sd reader and treated as if the droid was plugged by usb then put the original rom put the sd back in my droid alt s and boom it booted thank god cause i was about to spazz if i had to buy a new phone
hi, i've been trying to format my microsd card and partition it to fat32 and ext4.
i have used paragon partition manager but its only v9 so its only able to partition to ext3.
subsequently i used gparted but i booted and did not detect my micro sd card at all, making it impossible to partition.
Any ideas/workaround? or other programs to do so?
Cheers
Search google for 'gparted'. Burn the image and boot it to partition for free. Used it myself to create fat32 and ext4. It works flawlessly

i tried that but i have no idea why the gparted do not recognise my microsd card. all it recognise was the harddisk only, therefore its not even listed on the list on formatable memory slots
I am getting the same issue, I also tried Paragon but even that is not allowing me to create a new partition.
I starting to think it's my SD card, I got a 8GB Samsung Class 6 card.
I really want to apply this mimocan fix.
Update:
I tried it on my work machine and GParted worked, going to install samset 1.9b now.
I used Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 and it worked without problems.
When booted up in gparted you insert your sd card and after that you need to hit the "refresh" option in one of the menus, cant remember the exact name of the menu, but try it if you havnt.
I lost my sd card data flashing a rom. Could not mount it even thru recovery. Got a card reader, but it won't format it.
Using Mini Partition Tool to troubleshoot. I am not at a point where it shows three partitions. The main 16gb unallocated, logical. The ext3 unformatted 500mb, primary (think I did that by mistake when trying to recover partition). And a 32mb unallocated, logical. All zero used memory.
I need to get back to one partition allocated, primary. Then I can get sd data back on it and reformat thru recovery.
Again using Mini Partition Wizard
Any help please!
OK,
I got it repartitioned as primary and formatted, bu sd card from pc now.
Hope phone recognizes it.
Will update, if I need further help.

If you want a good program to format your sd card, try SD Formatter.
Download and install that, plug in your sdcard into your sd card reader and format it.
Choose Full Erase On (if possible) and Resize On. It will format your sdcard to factory default and that means even the ext partition will be gone too.
Well, all transferred. Still won't mount. Says can't mount either of the dev/blocks mmcb1k0p1 and mmcb1k0.
Staus bar says sd card damaged.
?????
musashiken,
Thanks, typing while you posted. Based on my last post should I still do that?
Ken
Yeah I think you should try to reformat again with the program I suggested, as that will full format your sd card.
Once done, put your sd card back to the phone and create ext partition in recovery.
At work now but will be working on it.
Thanks
Ken
musashiken,
Thanks, appreciate all your help
That program worked, and I am back up and running
Ken
Glad it worked for you. My sd card kept giving me problems and I have to use this every few rom flashes.
I have a similar problem. I installed a new 32 gb SDHC card in a CDMA Hero running Cryogenmod. All was working well for about 10 days, then I got an error that no SD card was found. I had the original card and tried to get to the Clockwork recovery, no luck. Finally, through Rom manager, (flash alternate recovery to Ramon, then back to Clockwork, I was able to boot into recovery.
I still cannot format the new SDHC card, through Recovery, Windows 7, or the Panasonic program listed above. The Windows format option sees the card as a FAT 121mb card, so does the above program. Is this new card toast? It came with a lifetime warranty from Kingston, but I am mad that it did not make 2 weeks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Craig
If sdformatter did not work it may be bad.
I always had good luck with it.
Did you have all options set per instructions?
nook color running 1.2 did a hard reset on it to try and fix this problem
i ran CM7 off SD card fine for months till i did something stupid and deleted the build.prop and did not restore old one before rebooting.
sandisk class 3 4gb sd card formated in windows to fat 32 totally blan insert into nook it powers on.
now i redo all my steps i did few months back in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
insert card into nook and now nook wont power on unless i remove it wait a few seconds. no reformat it back to fat32 and insert into nook and it powers on fine.
any ideas?
so after putting in a new sd card it still refuses to boot with sd card in. could they have put some kind of preventive for booting from sd card? it boots fine if sd card is empty but soon as i put a boot img on it nada
hardware/port failure?
or can it read the sd card after you boot into vanilla nook?
i was updating a daily once and it would just sit there and always boot into nook... then i realized that my install (copy zip, boot, reboot) wasnt finishing properly and it appeared to not be booting from the sd, but it was, just that the sd contents were corrupt...
it will boot fine if the sd card is out OR if i format the card and it is empty. if i put a boot image on it nothing. first i thought it was the sd card but now ive tried it with 2 different ones and the image being wrote from 2 different card readers

Try different image writing software or a cheap usb reader.
broke out an old free usb reader i had and installed it in tower and it worked but now im stuck at N logo. ive done boot partition fix i did 1.0 recovery even did hard reset and i let it sit for 4 hrs on the N logo and still nothing.. gonig to try 1.2 here in a min
edit: the 1.2 signed i got from here did the trick
i installed 10.1 and upgraded to 10.2 on my nook hd. I downloaded the cm 11 recovery and cm11 rom and gaps to my nook to upgrade to kitkat. After i downloaded the cm 11 to my nook, the updater took me to recovery. i installed the cm 11, but then had problems. I realized that I was using the cm 10 recovery , and should have installed the cm 11 recovery before I attempted to flash the new rom. I then wrote verygreen's sd card image for cm11 and it did boot into recovery. when i tried to install the rom, the device said it couldn't mount the sd card. i tried using the cm 10 recovery image and that didn't work either. same message, couldn't mount sd card. I then formatted cache, data, boot, did another wipe and same issue. currently, it takes a long time but the nook hd will boot into cm recovery, but same issue about not able to mount sd card. I checked similar threads for other devices, but I couldn't find any solutions. I called barnes and noble customer assistance and they were totallyuseless. My question is how do i get recovery to mount my sd card?
ditto
I had the same issue on my nook hd-
When I wrote the image to the sd card- I could boot in to CWM 6.0.4.6, from that sd card- but it could not mount the sd card, or find any files on it. so I couldn't flash the emmc version. When I pulled that sd card out, it reverted back to cwm 6.0.3.2 (which worked fine with cm10.1) but again, it still can't find the sd card.
/sdcard is the internal sd and while is mounted and navigatable, it's blank and there's nothing to install from it. (is there a way to copy to it from some other device?)
the other option is to install a zip from /storage/sdcard1 but that does nothing but pop up
E: Can't mount /storage/sdcard1
or
Error mounting /storage/sdcard1

I've been following and using the info in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572
I've used both a linux machine with dd and a windows machine with Win 32 disk imager for flashing images.
I've tried a variety of file systems (does anyone know what is the preferred file system for a grossly oversized micro sd card for CM11?).
I've tried to find a newer better version of CWM, and have found references to a 6.0.4.5b but haven't actually found the files yet.
have also tried sideloading with adb, but the device is never found. with either version of cwm
Would be ok moving back to cm10 as well, but as long as it can't find a SD card, I don't know how.
love this little device, would greatly appreciate any assistance.

after much banging of my head against the wall, I discovered that if i let it boot to the 6.0.3.2 on its own, it would let me mount the sd card that had the initial image written onto it.
So i loaded the new cwm zip and flashed it.
pulled the sd card out and had to let it reboot on its own 4 or 5 times before it popped up emmc CWM based recovery 6.0.4.6
..which then let me mount the sd card as /external_sd and I was able to flash the latest cm11 nightly (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment).
I've pulled the sd card out and rebooted...
AND IT'S BOOTING!!!!
...this is awesome.
Success
i changed sd cards and downloaded the recovery, rom, and gapps on the new card. Recovery was able to mount the new card and I got everything installed. Initially recovery aborted the rom installation, so I downloaded another cm10.1 and was able to flash it. So everything is good now.
