Can't Format SD Card

I lost my sd card data flashing a rom. Could not mount it even thru recovery. Got a card reader, but it won't format it.
Using Mini Partition Tool to troubleshoot. I am not at a point where it shows three partitions. The main 16gb unallocated, logical. The ext3 unformatted 500mb, primary (think I did that by mistake when trying to recover partition). And a 32mb unallocated, logical. All zero used memory.
I need to get back to one partition allocated, primary. Then I can get sd data back on it and reformat thru recovery.
Again using Mini Partition Wizard
Any help please!

I got it repartitioned as primary and formatted, bu sd card from pc now.
Hope phone recognizes it.

If you want a good program to format your sd card, try SD Formatter.
Download and install that, plug in your sdcard into your sd card reader and format it.
Choose Full Erase On (if possible) and Resize On. It will format your sdcard to factory default and that means even the ext partition will be gone too.

Well, all transferred. Still won't mount. Says can't mount either of the dev/blocks mmcb1k0p1 and mmcb1k0.
Staus bar says sd card damaged.

Yeah I think you should try to reformat again with the program I suggested, as that will full format your sd card.
Once done, put your sd card back to the phone and create ext partition in recovery.

Glad it worked for you. My sd card kept giving me problems and I have to use this every few rom flashes.

I have a similar problem. I installed a new 32 gb SDHC card in a CDMA Hero running Cryogenmod. All was working well for about 10 days, then I got an error that no SD card was found. I had the original card and tried to get to the Clockwork recovery, no luck. Finally, through Rom manager, (flash alternate recovery to Ramon, then back to Clockwork, I was able to boot into recovery.
I still cannot format the new SDHC card, through Recovery, Windows 7, or the Panasonic program listed above. The Windows format option sees the card as a FAT 121mb card, so does the above program. Is this new card toast? It came with a lifetime warranty from Kingston, but I am mad that it did not make 2 weeks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I always had good luck with it.

Need help with class 10 32GB MicroSD

So I got myself a class 10 MicroSD from newegg from the company called Patriot (reviews for all their products say its a good company)

In any case I figured 99$ isnt too bad. So I got the memory card today and sure enough computer has no issues reading it.Speeds are great and no bad reads or writes
So Im trying to set it up with ext3 etc and nothing seems to be working. So in any case I reformatted everything to fat32 on my PC and the phone isn't even detecting the memory card.
I was under the impression 32GB microsd should be ok. I hope this isnt a compatibility issue. Anyone else have thoughts in this?
Tried partition magic, default disk management application on xp also tried MiniTool Partition Wizard and no luck. At this point I just want the phone to detect the memory card to I can format it from the phone and then do the ext3 either from CW or Amon

Anyone? Is changing the drive letter on a computer going to change anything?

I heard that FAT32 does not support 32GB partition very well.. also some card readers have problem with reading a 32GB shdc card.
Try to make a 10GB Fat32 partition on your SD card and leave remaining space free, see if your phone can use it.

Thanks ill give it a try but no point in a 32gig card if cant use most of it on the phone. Dont need most of the card as ext3 lol

Working fine here. I used Acronis True Image to clone the card the first go around, but didn't like how it setup the card. Then used Acronis Disk Director to reconfigure a 31gb FAT & 1gb ext3. You can use Amon_RA Recovery to setup the card too. I did do that too, but I already have Disk Director to give me the gui view of what's going on.

Cannot get EXT3 partition to work on Desire
I'm also having issues getting the ext3 partition of the Kingston 32GB micro sdhc card to work with my desire.
I used GParted to create a large fat32 partition and also created a 1GB ext3 partition, but when i reboot the handset i get an error meesage on the desire telling me that the sd card is damaged and that i need to format. When i go back into GParted the FAT32 partition looks healthy but ext3 partition comes up as unallocated.
This method has worked fine with an 2 and 8GB micro sd but it seems to have issues when using the 32GB.
I've also tried using rom manager to create a 512MB ext3 partition but that just causes the phone to sit on on the boot up screen.
If anyone is experiencing the same/similar problem, please let me know how you tackled it.

Try to use Amon_RA's recovery and reformat your SD card with it.

Gparted seems to be the best tool to use.

Same problem with a Patriot MicroSD 32GB Class10.
Attempt to partition MicroSD with :
-Gparted
-Minitool Partition Wizard Home
-CWM (HD2)
Partitions are always destroyed or strange modified so Android can't read FAT32 partition.
No problems with a Sandisk 32GB Class 2.

Ok i worked out what this issue was.
Unfortunantly i've purchased a counterfeit Kingston MicroSD.
Kingston confirmed that it was a fake after i send them pics so that explains everything.

I have spent over an hour reading threads and searching, cannot find what I need.
I have CM7 on eMMC.
How do I get my sd card back to 8gb?

Had this last night but try formatting the SD card within your nook. I had an SD card with 1 gig image and was having the same problem.

Just to clarify. Use the format options within the nook. Sorry not in front of Nook at the moment.

I read that on CM7 on eMMC when doing that it formats the boot on the nook not the sd card, so did you do this or just think its the way to do it. THanks

Use this program, the free edition:
EASEUS Partition Manager
Windows can only see the first partition on your card. There are probably 4 partitions left from your emmc install. Plug your microSD card into your computer and launch EASEUS. You should see the driver letter assigned to your microSD card and 3 other unassigned partitions on your card. Right click on each of those partitions and delete them. Then either resize the primary partition Windows can see to the full size of the card, or delete that partition, then create a primary partition on the card that uses the full card size. You should now have your full capacity back.

No, I actually did the format using CM7 on my Nook Color. Bit hazy on the exact details, but if you look at the SD storage section in the Settings you should see the different SD cards and will show which to format. I had used my 8 gig SD card as a 120 meg SD boot with CWM so this SD card kept showing available space of about 120 meg (so I chose this to format).
'Should' be fairly obvious but can understand your hesitation.
FYI, I tried Easues Partition on my Windows 7 64 bit machine but did not recognize. Might be worth trying XP or Linux if you have but I would test the above option (Backup everything if concerned). I had just flashed CM7 to my nook so wasn't too bothered if I lost anything.
I can check when I get home.

Windows only sees one primary partition, so you have to use a partition manager to delete the other primary partitions. MiniTool Partition Wizard claims to work in all versions of Windows, I only have 32 bit Vista. Or you could use Linux in a virtual machine such as Vmware, it's free for home use.

I'm currently using the stock 16GB card that came with my Telus Milestone. I just ordered a 32GB class 10 card to replace it. I'm using EXT2 on CM7, so I've got a Fat32 partition and an EXT2 partition.
What's the best way to get all my data on all partitions over seamlessly and easily? Can Norton GHOST or Acronis access the cards and do a clone from 1 to the other, as if they were regular harddrives? (using USB card readers)
Any advice would be appreciated!

Yeh norton ghost worked fine for my 8gb with fat32 and ext2 partitions to a new 16gb card.....

Ghost didn't work for me. It simply wouldn't see either card, using a multitude of card readers.
I ended up partitioning the card manually using Minitool partition wizard. I needed a FAT32 partition and EXT2 partition. I then created a nandroid backup of the phone which included the ext2 partition and copied everything from the old card's fat32 over to the new card manually on my windows machine with robocopy. Popped the new card into the phone and immediately restored the nandroid backup before the phone could boot.
Worked like a charm, though annoying. I really wish Ghost would have worked!

And I'm an idiot: partition wizard has an option to do exactly what ghost does: copy the entire disc, and resize whatever partitions you needed.
I just did that on a second card and it was a lot easier than the first time around...not that the first time was difficult

[Q] How can I format a partitioned SD?

Hey all, I want to write a new image to what is currently a verygreen size-agnostic card, but Windows, EASEUS and the NC itself only see the boot partition. If I try to format it from Windows 7 x64, will it just wipe the partition, or format the whole card? Is there a way to do it from CWM?
I have:
verygreen's latest size-agnostic card running CM7.0.3 + dal's 4/24 OC kernel
the 3.1 beta running dal's 5/13 OC kernel on eMMC
the latest CWM on eMMC
EASEUS on my PC
I do not have:
another SD card
a card reader other than the NC
Obviously "get a card reader" and "get another card" are answers I could come up with myself. Do I have any options using what I have? The goal is to write racks' Phiremod/HC dual-boot to the card.
ETA: I am hesitant to attempt formatting from CM7 due to the big red letters in the dev thread for 3.1:
DO NOT FORMAT YOUR SD CARD IN CM7. DUE TO A VOLD ISSUE THIS WILL FORMAT YOUR /BOOT INSTEAD OF THE SD CARD!

Does that still apply? Does it apply to the 7.0.3 build? Would flashing eMMC to CM7.0.3 and formatting the card be a possibility?
UPDATE [SOLVED]: As the final post says, the best method to revert a bootable card to storage seems to be, in EASEUS, deleting all partitions except the "SDcard/CM7 SDcard" partition, then dragging that partition to take up the unallocated space.

I use XP and using a USB adapter plug it in go to my computer right click on the drive which will say boot and click format. It takes about 5 seconds to format. Tou will get a warning. Not sure if it is the same with Win 7 but cannot see why it wouldn't format the same way.

Well, I did order a card reader from Amazon. This one seems like it may actually come in handy down the road and not be a one-use thing, and it should be here tomorrow. Maybe for experimentation's sake I'll do one last back-up and try formatting the card in the NC.
I can't sync my apps from Titanium + Dropbox until I get Titanium pointed at a bigger partition.

In the interest of completeness and for the unknown googler: Windows was incapable of formating any but the first partition of the card whether in the NC or a card reader. I tried "Wipe drive" in EASEUS, after which neither Windows Explorer nor the NC would recognize the card to format it. I wrote a new image to it (the HC/Ph dual boot) with WinImage, which worked fine. However, CM7 on the NC still only had access to the boot partition, and I needed more space so that I could sync Titanium Backup with Dropbox to restore my apps and settings from my old SD installation.
Again, there was no formating the partitioned card, so in EASEUS I deleted all the partitions except SDcard, extended that partition, and then formatted it in Windows. I was almost right--the last step was not only a waste of time, but rendered the card readable to Windows but not to CM7 or CWM. So, I once again wrote an image to the card, deleted all the other partitions, extended SDcard to to take up the unallocated space, and then jammed the card in the NC: success!
And Titanium Backup FCed whenever I tried to sync to Dropbox :/
Well, so be it. I manually replaced the Titanium Backup folder on the SD card with the one from my Dropbox, and it's almost done restoring now #knockonwood
