rooting issues

so I tried to Root my Dream and choose after a number of failed attempts I have decided to just give up so I want to wipe and restore my phone's OS the factory but when I try though the settings menu the phone restarts then just sits on the "Rodgers" logo for ever so is there anyway to fix that?
Don't give up so soon
I definitely recommend rooting. The rogers firmware sucks by default imo. I did not like my phone at all until I rooted.
Check this guide by HyeProfile, I just used it on a new rogers dream and it worked 100%:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4280573#post4280573
If you really don't want to root, you can follow the steps to try flashing (using the same instructions he gives in that post) with the official rogers radio.img and recovery.img here: http://www.stevebirstok.com/android/losemyroot.zip
well I hate how slow my phone feels so I'm going in for the root again thanks for the push to try again.
ok ran into an issue:

that means it can't see your sdcard.
see if dropping into the recovery console(alt+x) and typing
Code:
mount /sdcard
recovery
see if that helps anything since that command will mount your sdcard which it appears to be failing to read.
when I try enter the console all the options are removed form the screen then nothing happens all I see is the yellow text.
The yellow text I'm talking about is the error message I posted.
if you are trying to unroot it, use the same rc package that you use to downgrade it in the bootloader (camera and power) and run the .nbh there

Are you sure your sdcard is formatted to FAT32?
I'm going o try that when I get home
ok so it's weird.
E:Multiple firmware images
E:can't store hboot images
E:failure at line 1
write_hboot_image PACKAGE:hboot.img

ok so now it just sits on the "Rogers" logo and wont enter any mode (camara+power)
edit: looks like that means I biked the thing hope they will replace it (i'll just blame it on their firmware update thing)
edit2: calling rogers to try get a replacement
will it it read an .nbh in the bootloader?
I don't know how can I test that or see if it will?
I was refering to the dreaimg.nbh from either rc29 or rc7 that you use to downgrade your phone in order to root it, that use the bootloader camera + power
no it wont enter any mode at all just sits on the rogers logo so a new phone should show up in the next 3 to 5 days
this kinda scares me off from trying again but I want to so I might.
got a all new phone and it still wont mount the Sd card like last time
ok so i helped some one root their rogers phone last night. are you trying to flash the radio, or have you followed all of the fastboot commands in the "rogers heres your real root" thread? the guy i was helping couldn't flash the radio but we got it with the fastboot commands
no I'm past loading recovery.img with fastboot and I'm trying to apply the update.zip
thats very odd. so you did all the fastboot commands and still can't get it to work?
is it any rom you try to flash?
well I was following the guide in one of the first posts

G1 - Recovery mode Exclamation Mark Screen

1. I had a rooted phone with CyanogenMod 4.1.9999
2. I downloaded Original System Image (signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-img-14721.zip) from http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
3. I updated the phone with the zip file
Now I'm getting an exclamation screen when I try to get into recovery scree (Pressing Home button during boot)
I tried to downgraded using RC29 Image: http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/DREAIMG-RC29.zip - Followed first 6 steps from http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=8970.0
I'm not able to update or do anything with the phone now.

I haven't fixed it yet. Am not able to place the recovery image using fastboot - my phone is not recognized by the computer
Work around I've found for flashing the recovery image if you can't figure out fastboot (I've never got it to work) is like this:
1. Follow the root procedure.
2. Install the most recent CM rom without using the HTC image (reason I do this is he's got some linux commands built into his ROM that aren't installed in the vanilla android build).
3. Download the cm-recovery-1.4.img to your sd card (or whichever recovery image you like)
4. Run terminal commands like so:
$su root (the reason I do this is it gives you higher level access to the system than just su, and I've found it doesn't work with just su for some reason)
#flash recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img
#reboot
5. Hold your home key as it powers up, and you should have the new recovery image installed.
Of course, I'd say do a full wipe, then install the ROM, and go through the fix permissions and clear cache.

You won't be able to use terminal from recovery until you have a thirdparty recovery image installed. The steps I've listed are for a working phone, and I'm sure that's where part of your problem is. I'd suggest doing a wipe (Alt+W) and going through the root process again. When you get the CM Rom, change the name of it to update.zip, then try the steps I mentioned. I'd suggest having a separate SD card with just DREAMIMG.nbh installed on it for emergencies (especially if you're going to partition your main card).
Thanks
2) Install the most recent CM rom without using the HTC image(What is it? Can explane?)
4) Terminal as i understand its Telnet?
Can i do works a boot mode and then downgrade it to RC29?? Because after it i'll know what to do... Thanks!

Basically to get this working you're going to need to downgrade to RC29 first - so follow the root instructions.
CM = CyanogenMod ROM. To get his working fully you need two roms, which are the HTC Developer ROM and the 4.x ROMs he created (reason being legal distribution of software), but for my instructions, on his ROM page, you're going to skip his instructions, just download his ROM, rename it to update.zip and just flash it from the stock recovery, just so you can get to the terminal once the phone boots up and load terminal (it's in the programs tray). When another screen pops up asking if you want to allow it to use SU functions (it will as soon as you type "su") hit allow.
Terminal is a program downloadable from the Market, it's included with the CM ROM.
His instructions for install are not going to work unless you have a thirdparty recovery image, which at this point from the description, the triangle with the exclamation point is the default system recovery image.
CM Rom page
You should be able to find the Root posts and choose a customed recovery image, there's about 4 or 5 really good ones, I use Cyanogen's, thus my instructions on how to flash it.
You're fortunate that you're getting to the stock recovery, means your phone isn't bricked.

Not sure what you mean? Telnet for these intents and purposes is basically just a command. The page on how to root has become pretty convoluted at this point. The part where it tells you to type 'telnetd' is just running a script which is an exploit in the old releases of android. You won't be messing with Terminal really until you get to the point where you've updated the rom. From this point, I'd suggest downloading this root.apk from your browser, install it, allow it, follow the instructions step by step in the program.
My problem consist of that i can't turn on my phone and i can't get into bootloader...only recovery can you give me a link for RC29 download and then install it from recovery on my g1 from recovery.
Thanks!

You're probably going to need a card reader...here's the instruction for rooting with a download for the RC29.

You don't...with the DREAMIMG.nbh or any .nbh file you start up the phone holding power+camera. The recovery mode looks for an update.img file. You'll make it through, don't get frustrated.
Here's a more updated rooting guide:

ADP, no recovery?

Since yesterday I own a g1 developer version, when turning the phone on by teh power button all I see is a red, green, blue & white background with the following text..:
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
Sep 2 2008
Serial0
When turning the phone on by the power button & the home button I get a white triangle with a exclamation mark, from there, the ALT+L button gives me the following:
Android system recovery utility
E: can't open /cache/recovery/command
From here you can reboot the phone, apply sdcard:update.zip or wipe data/factory reset.
I've tried different update.zip version, but when de update is going to install the following error appeared (Some update.zip versions give this, some give a line 2 error)
"faillure line 1: assert file_contains(“SYSTEM:build.prop, en nog een hele lap tekst..
Could it be that I use the wrong update.zip? Anyone a suggestion? All I want is the phone working..
a good tutorial how to patch and upgrade your phone can be found on the cyanogen mod page http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ in the wiki section. There is a foolproof description especially for the develloper version, just search for it!
From what I understand ADP1 uses different recovery procedures than retail G1s. Check HTC's ADP1 site for more details and to download a recovery image.
wrong section dude
now that you have a dream, u might want to avoid asking questions in the dev area...u will get burnt to a crisp very quickly
the search button (and google) is your best friend...use them before posting
I've followed this
1 Download the DREAIMG.nbh:
2 Place "DREAIMG.nbh" on the root of your SD card.
3 Turn your phone off.
4 Start up in bootloader mode by holding Camera + Power.
5 Hit power button to start the update.
6 Once the install completes hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot.
The phone is installing the update, but after a reboot it gives the same color screen I've had before.
Sounds like your camera button is messed up/stuck. Try blowing some compressed air in there or something like that, see if that helps.
I don't think it has anything to do with the camerabutton.. When I leaving the .nbh file on the sd card, en I turn the phone on, it comes with the color screen.. If the camerabutton is active, he should start the update..
Alright, I´ve made some progres..
Trough this site http://www.htcforums.com/threads/3298-POSSIBLE-SCREEN-OF-DEATH I came hier https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
This zip file is nog up anymore, downloaded it somewhere else & renamed it to update.zip, placed it on a sd card. Booted the phone with the home en power button, -> ALT + L -> ALT + S.. This is the first rom which is going to install..
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Openen update package...
verifying update package.. takes a minute
installing update...
formatting boot
extracting radio image
formatting system
copying files
After this a manual reboot with back & power button, the phone shows a kind of chip met a arrow, automatic reboot, show a white box with a arrow pointing to a phone, automatic reboot & again the rainbow screen.
Well, tried a lot, searched the internet, but can't get it to wrok..

[Q] need help! Can't get nanodroid to work again.

Hi,
I read everything i could find and I still can't get anything to work properly on the phone.
Is there even a milestone wiki so i know which version my phone is?
I got the open recovery thing to work once, but i can't get it to work again, it keeps saying I have a cache error. what do i do?
also, when I install app2card, it totally ruins my phone, is that app meant for my phone?
I tried to install app2sd, but it keeps saying busy box permission failed something.
I got my phone thru ebay, how can i check the region?
I just know I have an unbranded milestone.
I google all these questions and nothing helpful comes up.
Can somone please tell me how to get into recover again?
Do i need to reflash it?
I only got into it once and installed the zip.
but when i try to run the zip again, i get an error.
If you have nandroid file in your sdcard, you can copy and paste (anything that is important to you) to your PC.
1. Take out your sdcard and pluck it to your PC if your Milestone cannot switch ON
2. Format your sdcard via PC
3. Extract G.O.T OpenRecovery v2.00 or Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3 to the root of
your sdcard. (you'll see OpenRecovery folder and update.zip) Put the sdcard to your
Milestone and enter bootloader.(Press and hold volume up+camera key & power ON)
4. Open RSDlite and connect to your Milestone. Flash sbf to your Milestone, stock ROM
or 2.2.1 G.O.T beta version
Guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696845
5. Your Milestone will be switch ON after flashing sbf is done. Turn it OFF and enter
into recovery. Press X button and power ON. Once you see the triangle and '!',
press volume up and camera key.
6. You'll see Recovery 2e, all letters in blue, select update and the rest is your choice.
You can nandroid backup if your Milestone works as before and restore your previous nandroid that you copy to your PC.
Yes i did that the first time and it worked.
but how can i get into it again to make a backup?
thanks
You mean you still can't get into the recovery mode after formatting your sdcard? Even with the button combination:
PRESS AND HOLD 'X' AND POWER ON THE PHONE, LET GO ONLY AFTER YOU SEE THE TRIANGLE AND '!' MARK ???
I get to the triangle.
and it get to the recover menu. but when i press install the zip again.
an error message pops up.
do i need to redo step 3 and 4 everytime i want to go into recovery menu?
what open recovery u r using? GOT or androidiani?
if its GOT then try switchin to androidiani to check if the problem presist, vice versa.
report back here if there is any improvement.
one more question:
when u enter the bootloader menu (pressing the up dpad and power key) wat bootloader version it states there?
Thanks
I'll try it out tonight been a bit busy this week.
does Flash sbf do anything to my system?
for example, will i need to reflash my current rom after doing Flash sbf?
I know for the x10 mini pro, after doing update.zip i will need to reflash the rom.
is it the same for milestone?
I still can't get it to work.
here are my steps.
My phone is already rooted.
and I already flashed the Recovery-Only SBF when i installed the new rom. (do i need to redo this step? Maybe I'm using an outdated version?)
Can someone link me to the file if there is a better one, all the links are dead.
I am using this version: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78
I downloaded this:
http://groupoften.wordpress.com/2010/10/22/new-g-o-t-openrecovery-v2-01-launched/
I put the files on the root of my SD:
OpenRecovery
OpenRecovery-CFG (do i need this?)
update.zip
I press the Up dpad and power, I get the triangle thing.
I press the install.zip and still cache error?
E:can't open /ache/recovery/command
I don't get what the readme in the GOT is telling me to do.
it says:
create a folder in /OpenRecovery/recoveries ( for example "My_OR_MOD" i don't use space in folder name, to avoid problems)
does that mean I make a copy of the "openrecovery" folder and put it back inside the "openrecovery" folder? that means every thing will be duplicated? is this correct?
thanks
I would try the androidiani, but i can not find the english guide.
Edit:
just tried androidiani, and I'm still getting E:can't open /ache/recovery/command

[Q] couldn't go to flash mode

Hi there
I don't know it's right place for this question or not sorry anyway
I have Arnova 7bg2 Tablet and tried to add cwm to my stock image rom I downloaded from it's site and it was my first attempt for that.
everything was good and I unpacked it with RK29xxImageTools_v2.1. added some apps which I needed.
but in adding of recovery I think I made mistake.
replaced default recovery image with my own recovery I downloaded from "androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/rk2918/"
and replaced misc image with another one that was on this downloaded zip file
device started not bad but there were some problems in boot loading like didn't show boot image.
I decided to change rom by default one and I put stock rom on root folder for usual updating and changing.
device went to recovery mode but it don't work
E:Can't find misc
E:Cant mount /cache/recovery/command
.... and so on
tablet never get out from this mode (just restarting to this mode again)
I can't do anything
other flash tools like Rockchip batch tool didn't work
and by hard keys I couldn't change to flash mode
is there any software for changing to flash mode without hard keys way?
what should I do?
I'll say very really TNX to everybody who can help me
