Since yesterday I own a g1 developer version, when turning the phone on by teh power button all I see is a red, green, blue & white background with the following text..:
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
Sep 2 2008
Serial0
When turning the phone on by the power button & the home button I get a white triangle with a exclamation mark, from there, the ALT+L button gives me the following:
Android system recovery utility
E: can't open /cache/recovery/command
From here you can reboot the phone, apply sdcard:update.zip or wipe data/factory reset.
I've tried different update.zip version, but when de update is going to install the following error appeared (Some update.zip versions give this, some give a line 2 error)
"faillure line 1: assert file_contains(“SYSTEM:build.prop, en nog een hele lap tekst..
Could it be that I use the wrong update.zip? Anyone a suggestion? All I want is the phone working..
a good tutorial how to patch and upgrade your phone can be found on the cyanogen mod page http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ in the wiki section. There is a foolproof description especially for the develloper version, just search for it!
From what I understand ADP1 uses different recovery procedures than retail G1s. Check HTC's ADP1 site for more details and to download a recovery image.
wrong section dude
now that you have a dream, u might want to avoid asking questions in the dev area...u will get burnt to a crisp very quickly
the search button (and google) is your best friend...use them before posting
I've followed this
1 Download the DREAIMG.nbh:
2 Place "DREAIMG.nbh" on the root of your SD card.
3 Turn your phone off.
4 Start up in bootloader mode by holding Camera + Power.
5 Hit power button to start the update.
6 Once the install completes hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot.
The phone is installing the update, but after a reboot it gives the same color screen I've had before.
Sounds like your camera button is messed up/stuck. Try blowing some compressed air in there or something like that, see if that helps.
I don't think it has anything to do with the camerabutton.. When I leaving the .nbh file on the sd card, en I turn the phone on, it comes with the color screen.. If the camerabutton is active, he should start the update..
Alright, I´ve made some progres..
Trough this site http://www.htcforums.com/threads/3298-POSSIBLE-SCREEN-OF-DEATH I came hier https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
This zip file is nog up anymore, downloaded it somewhere else & renamed it to update.zip, placed it on a sd card. Booted the phone with the home en power button, -> ALT + L -> ALT + S.. This is the first rom which is going to install..
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Openen update package...
verifying update package.. takes a minute
installing update...
formatting boot
extracting radio image
formatting system
copying files
After this a manual reboot with back & power button, the phone shows a kind of chip met a arrow, automatic reboot, show a white box with a arrow pointing to a phone, automatic reboot & again the rainbow screen.
Well, tried a lot, searched the internet, but can't get it to wrok..

The RGB screen is normal for that bootloader. Is the file named DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your sdcard? If it is, and all goes well, it should flash the RGB screen, then another gray screen will come up with instructions with how to flash the DREAIMG.nbh to your phone. I think the instructions say something like press Volume Up to flash the img, and some other stuff... if the DREAIMG.nbh doesn't work, try renaming it to DREAMIMG.nbh and seeing if the bootloader recognizes it then.
it was named as u said, but i get a quick grey screen then it goes to the RGB. i tried renaming it as stated, and got the same result.
Not quite certain why the bootloader isn't seeing the nbh file. I'll go look around, but maybe someone will post the answer here before me.
Btw, do you have the US phone or the UK version? The UK version requires RC7 not RC29, that might be why, but ehhh, sounds unlikely if you've been following the instructions...
EDIT: KK! Found a likely solution. After formatting it (your sdcard) from your phone, you still need to format it one more time in Windows. Make sure you format it to FAT32, not FAT16, not FAT, but FAT32.
Once that is done, I would re-download the file (some people said that re-naming the file made it not visible in bootloader and re-downloading it solved it). Make sure it is named DREAIMG.NBH (ALL CAPS, but also make sure you can see file extensions in Windows so that you don't rename it to DREAMIMG.nbh.nbh). Do that and let me know how that goes.
format ur sd card too fat32 thats probably y

I need some major help guys.... i need to send my g1 to tmobile but my only problem is i cannot seem to unroot. each time i get to the Grey and Blue screen it does not load, it says (loading no image)... then it goes back to the RAINBOW screen. im i doing something wrong? I have followed these steps. i would greatly appreciate your help.
I. Downgrade the SPL (If you never loaded a new SPL or are coming from a completely stock Donut G1, SKIP THIS SECTION).
1. Download the Original SPL:
Original SPL
2. Rename the Original SPL to Update.zip and place it (now named update.zip) on the SD card (not in any folder).
3. Turn off the phone
4. Turn on the phone holding Home and End key till the recovery screen pops up.
5. Hit Alt W to wipe the phone, then hit Alt S to load the update.zip
6. After the update is complete, press Home and Back to reboot.
7. Once the phone reboots to the G1 Logo, turn it off by taking out the battery. Then put the battery back in. *READ THE REPORTED ISSUES FOR A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS STEP!
II. Load the DreaIMG.nbh File
1. Download the Original DreaIMG.nbh file:
Original DREAIMG.nbh
2. If the file downloaded above downloads as a .Zip file, please unzip it first then put the DreamIMG.nbh file that is inside on the SD card, NOT in any folder. (If you did Section I the phone is off still, take out the memory card, put it in the MicroSD adapter and plug it into your computer to transfer the file over, since your G1 won’t turn on right now if you did Section I above. Otherwise if you did not need to do Section I above, then you can just put it on the SD card normally using the usb cable and the phone).
3. Turn the phone off if it is on.
4. Turn on the phone by holding the Camera button and the End key until the bootloader screen turns on.
5. Hit the End key to start the update. DO NOT INTERUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. Once it is done, hit the trackball to restart the phone. You now are on the stock firmware RC29.
First step is posting in correction section(Q&A). Second step is using the search.

i did!! n i still didnt get help from the thread that was posted by {tubaking]
Did you place the file DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your sdcard??
yes i did... i even tried with rc30 but it didnt work.
i keep getting stuck on the last step. i have cynogenmod.
You are pressing camera+power to get this done??
yes i am...
i followed all the steps correctly..for some reason it keeps messing up at the end when it gets to the grey and blueish screen.
And is your card formatted to Fat32. And did you check the MD5sum on the file to make sure it's the complete file.
Wow mikey on here helpin.
yes it is formatted
i don't know what that is..MD5sum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Md5sum
how do i check if the MD5 is a complete file>?
To see if a given file is valid, pass the output of a previous md5sum run with the switch -c. Thus, the following two steps occur:
1. Compute the MD5 sum and store it in a file using md5sum file > file.md5
2. Check for validity with md5sum -c file.md5
If file is not present, omitting the file parameter or passing a - reads from standard input
i don't understand smh
Just redownload the RC29 file again and retry it then.
would you happen to have a RC29 file for download? i've tired about 4 different files

when i get to the rainbow screen it goes to the grey and blue screen to do the last loading. all it says "loading no image" then it goes back to the rainbow screen within 10 seconds. and ill have to pop the battery out and restart my phone regular again...
do you think something is wrong with the ROM that i have?
im also wondering if i can change the ROM and try to unroot if it will work...
any suggestions?
Hi Everyone,
I am sorry to bother you guys, but I am writing since I am having a hard time upgrading my g1 to the hardspl or any spl for that matter after downgrading and then re-rooting. As per the directions I have:
1. First reformatted my sd card to fat32 in Windows.
2. Downloaded RC29 DREAIMG.nbh file and placed in main sdcard.
3. Turned off the phone off and rebooted holding the Camera button and the Power button until the phone is in bootloader mode.
4. Followed the directions and installed DREAIMG.nbh; and then rebooted the phone via Call button, Menu button & Power button all at the same time.
5. Used t-mobile sim card with data to log in.
6. Then pressed “enter” and type “telnetd” and then “enter.”
7. Next downloaded telnetd from Market.
8. Gained access via telent and did the following
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
The recovery image that I used was the Cyanogen AmonRa recovery from ttp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Dream:_Rooting
9. Step 8 was not fully successful in adding in the recovery image. So I downloaded AndExplorer from Market and installed it. And then I installed Flash Recovery as well, and used Flash Recovery to install the Amon Ra Recovery.
10. After that I rebooted the phone into recovery and did wipe and factory reset.
11. Then I Partitioned the SDCARD to 512mbs for ext2 and fat32 for the remainder. Then Partition SD Card > SD: ext2 to ext3.
12. Then I did USB toggle and loaded up the radio ota-radio-2_22_19_26I, Hard SPL, update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed, and signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.
13. First I flashed the ota-radio-2_22_19_26I and rebooted to apply.
14. Then Hard SPL and rebooted to apply
15. Then did factory reset/wipe.
16. Then applied signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721 followed immediately by update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.
After doing the above 16 steps, I was able to boot in Cyanogen 4.2 and when I checked the radio, it still shows the original old 1.22.12.29 radio. And when I reboot the phone via “Power” and “Back”, in fastboot it shows the rainbow screen with the info
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
Radio-1.22.12.29

So it means that the HardSPL is not installing, neither is the radio.
I have tried repeating the above steps with installing the radio then DangerSPL and then Cyanogen 5, but the phone remained stalled on the loading Android screen for 1 hour. So I pulled the battery and followed the above steps to restore the phone back to Cyanogen 4.2.
So can anyone please give me advise on what I can do to get HardSPL and the latest radio to install. Btw this originally an ADP1 that I got installed with the Tmobile stuff. If there was an ADP1 image, I would definitely restore it to that, but I have not come across one yet T.T
Thank you in advance for your help everyone.
So no one has any idea on what i can do to install the hardSPL? I even went here ttp://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#Dream.2FG1.2FADP1 and rebooted everything. And at this point I am running Android 1.1 with RC30 by jesusfreak with his recovery.img. Yet, I am still unable to install the hardSPL.
When I go through recovery mode and run the hardSPL installation, it the installation bar goes to 50% or so visually and then says everything is complete. And after that it tell me to press "home + back" to continue and it does the reboot and reboots back into recovery as well. So after that I reboot the phone and press "power + back" to enter into fastboot and it still shows the rainbow fastboot.
Sigh. So what is missing or what am i doing wrong. As i said I am still running Android 1.1 RC30 JesusFreak mod and I do not want to go up higher unless I am sure I can install the HardSPL.
Please any help would be much appreciate. Happy Holidays everyone .
I almost said flash the radio via fastboot *facepalm*
Are you sure you're using AmonRa's recovery? If you're using Cyan's you can't flash via 'any update.zip on sdcard' or whatever. It *must* be called update .zip and you must flash using alt-s, *not* using the trackball.
Hi,
I have searched similar threads but none of them have helped to me.
My DREA110 HTC G1 T-MOBILE (UK) phone shows me an EXCLAMATION mark in a triangle form.
When i press ALT - L it shows me ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY 2E menu with 4 options
reboot system now HOME BACK
apply sdcard:update.zip ALT S
wipe data/factory reset ALT W
wipe cache partition
these are tried so far.
1-I have rebooted phone using 1 option in menu but got same error message.
2-wiped cache using menu option, restarted and problem continues.
3-downloaded Android 1.0 RC33 from here (http code google com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unbrick) and renamed as update.zip and put into a FAT32 formatted 2gb memory card and used apply sdcard:update.zip option but received error messages below.
E:CAN'T MOUNT /DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P1
(OR /DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0
(NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY)
E:CAN'T MOUNT SDCARD:UPDATE.ZIP
INSTALLATION ABORTED
i am a newbie please help.
Hello
I'd love to refresh this topic. I have same problem.
I can not access device via adb or fastboot. i can't boot with CAM+POWER, device always boots to recovery 2e.
i can't install zip from sdcard (windows formatted fat32) - it gives error "can't mount SDCARD"
i can boot to "blue light mode". but i don't have serial interface to connect.
If anyone can help us with this, please do
Problem Solved. There was a cold solder in front keypad PCB (at connector). It made HOME button "pressed" all the time. After resoldering it works fine.
What were you doing when this happened?
I bought damaged device
You may want to look on the inside of your phone. May be because of a stuck home button or something else

I love when this (already solved, but someone solves it anyway) happens...lol
Funny how close it was, though
