I need some major help guys.... i need to send my g1 to tmobile but my only problem is i cannot seem to unroot. each time i get to the Grey and Blue screen it does not load, it says (loading no image)... then it goes back to the RAINBOW screen. im i doing something wrong? I have followed these steps. i would greatly appreciate your help.
I. Downgrade the SPL (If you never loaded a new SPL or are coming from a completely stock Donut G1, SKIP THIS SECTION).
1. Download the Original SPL:
Original SPL
2. Rename the Original SPL to Update.zip and place it (now named update.zip) on the SD card (not in any folder).
3. Turn off the phone
4. Turn on the phone holding Home and End key till the recovery screen pops up.
5. Hit Alt W to wipe the phone, then hit Alt S to load the update.zip
6. After the update is complete, press Home and Back to reboot.
7. Once the phone reboots to the G1 Logo, turn it off by taking out the battery. Then put the battery back in. *READ THE REPORTED ISSUES FOR A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS STEP!
II. Load the DreaIMG.nbh File
1. Download the Original DreaIMG.nbh file:
Original DREAIMG.nbh
2. If the file downloaded above downloads as a .Zip file, please unzip it first then put the DreamIMG.nbh file that is inside on the SD card, NOT in any folder. (If you did Section I the phone is off still, take out the memory card, put it in the MicroSD adapter and plug it into your computer to transfer the file over, since your G1 won’t turn on right now if you did Section I above. Otherwise if you did not need to do Section I above, then you can just put it on the SD card normally using the usb cable and the phone).
3. Turn the phone off if it is on.
4. Turn on the phone by holding the Camera button and the End key until the bootloader screen turns on.
5. Hit the End key to start the update. DO NOT INTERUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. Once it is done, hit the trackball to restart the phone. You now are on the stock firmware RC29.
First step is posting in correction section(Q&A). Second step is using the search.
Read the damn rules for posting new threads or go away
i did!! n i still didnt get help from the thread that was posted by {tubaking]
Did you place the file DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your sdcard??
yes i did... i even tried with rc30 but it didnt work.
i keep getting stuck on the last step. i have cynogenmod.
You are pressing camera+power to get this done??
yes i am...
i followed all the steps correctly..for some reason it keeps messing up at the end when it gets to the grey and blueish screen.
And is your card formatted to Fat32. And did you check the MD5sum on the file to make sure it's the complete file.
Wow mikey on here helpin.
yes it is formatted
i don't know what that is..MD5sum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Md5sum
how do i check if the MD5 is a complete file>?
To see if a given file is valid, pass the output of a previous md5sum run with the switch -c. Thus, the following two steps occur:
1. Compute the MD5 sum and store it in a file using md5sum file > file.md5
2. Check for validity with md5sum -c file.md5
If file is not present, omitting the file parameter or passing a - reads from standard input
i don't understand smh
Just redownload the RC29 file again and retry it then.
would you happen to have a RC29 file for download? i've tired about 4 different files

Hi everyone,
I have had this new xperia and love it, I have decided I would like to update my rom but want to make sure I have not missed anything.
If it's not to much to ask can someone let me know if this guide is missing any steps.
my phone and me are both virgins.
Thanks
------------------------------------
Preperation:
1. First lets download all that you will need in order to flash your rom.
Hard_SPL_X1_V1-
And of course download any custom rom made for the X1 of your choice...that is all you will need!
2. Extract the HardSPL somewhere on your pc, you might aswell extract the rom file somewhere on your pc too.
3. Connect your phone via activesync to your pc
4. When you are connected, (I let it finish synchronising one last time, to ensure all of the data on my pc was up to date with the current data on my phone), you then go to where you extracted "X1_HardSPL.exe" and you run it...
5. Follow the instructions at some point it should say something like "Image Version: 1.02.111.7" to "1.00.X1"
When asked, press "Yes" on the X1
6. - Now a Tri-color screen should show up, showing some version Information
After that, a progressbar screen will be shown and the phone will reboot when finished
Click "Finish" on the PC
(To check if you succeeded, turn the device off (long power button press). Then hold the volume down button and turn the device on again, still holding the volume down button until the Tri-color screen shows up. It should read something like:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707)
Remove and reinsert the battery to exit bootloader mode
You completed the first step and are now able to flash any ROM you want to your X1! (Well, at least any ROM made for the X1 of course ;-))
Steps 2-6 need only to be done once...from here on forward should you wish to flash another rom you do not need to install HardSPL again as it is already on your phone.
Flashing your Rom (The fun begins):
7. Rename the rom file you downloaded from whatever.nbh (usually it is ruu_signed.nbh) to Kovsimg.nbh (you can rename it on your pc or on your phone once you have transferred it over)
8. Start up the phone normally, if you have not already done so...then connect it to your pc...(at this point you can connect it without activesync, just as a memory card reader so that you can copy over your rom faster)
Copy your rom into the root of the memory card.
(You can also use any external memory card reader/writer connected to the pc and copy over the file)
Remeber to make sure all files have been deleted off your memory card.
9. Insert the memory card into the phone (You never know somebody might forget to do it :-S )
10. Turn off the phone completely, not standby mode (USB cable must not be attached)
11. Remove and reinsert the battery (This step can be skipped if you made sure you turned off the phone in step 10, this is just in case somebody put the phone in standby instead)
12. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button while still holding both of these buttons until the tri-color screen pops up.
13. Follow the onscreen instructions (It should install the rom +-5mins)
14. When you see the screen say "Succesfully updated", you can then go ahead and remove the battery and reinsert it.
Getting ready to see results (one last step):
Do not skip this step!!! This may result in errors!!!
15. Do a hard reset : Hold down the two silver buttons directly under the screen, while holding them down push the power button, you should then be presented with a screen that asks you to press "R" to reset your device....so go ahead and flip open the keyboard and press "R", when it completes it will ask you to press "Spacebar" to restart the device...go ahead..
16. You are done!
You have now flashed your rom....after it restarts please note the first time it starts up again will take longer than normal, you will be presented with all the normal setup's as you first did when you got your phone...
Like stylus setup and time and date etc...
With this particular rom that I flashed approximately 3/4mins after getting to the today screen a notification came up asking me to choose my operator and it then installed all the necessary connection settings for me....
You may also be asked to restart the device once more after the initial startup of the new rom, this is because upon first start up the rom may install some additional programs / cabs / tweaks which the "cooker" has cooked into the rom....
I cant think of anything more at this point, I tried to be as detailed as possible with this guide and use as much lame-man's terms as possible to make it clear and understandable....
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to post under this thread and I will answer to the best of my knowledge...
Once again thanks to XDA-Developers from whom I have learnt all of the above....

Thanks,
I have tomorrow off and will be flashing my rom tomorrow.
Now all I need to do is find the rom I want to use.
Is there a guide on all the different roms and what each one does and how it's different?
I know I want winmo 6.5 and htc touch.

Check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801
The only way to know which ROM is best for you is to try each of them out and see how it "fits" your personality.
Enjoy flashing!
I have not had time to do the rom flash, and might find a few hours tomorrow.
I have one last question, has any one done flashed a virgin phone in windows 7?
thanks
Need some assistance, I'm at the step where I have copied the rom to my sd card, I have renamed it to Kovsimg.nbh
I hold volume down and power on, i get a message no image file found.
I'm trying to use Jack_3.5b_Full.
I have formated the the flash memory to fat32, the rom is the only file on the card.
I have started the phone and I can see the memory card ok and the flash file.
Does any one have any idea's?
Thanks

Ok I just reformated the sd card and now it's working, go figure.
After a rom update has anyone noticed that the screen flickers on the bottom third?
I followed this and everything seems to going well except for the part where I want the update.zip to run. What am I missing..at what screen do you press alt+s to run the update.zip? Did I maybe not put the update.zip on the root of the sd card properly because all I did was download cyanogens latest stable release and renamed it update.zip and put it on the root? Please help me out guys!
nvm...I just can't read directions properly.
think before asking....think before asking.....think before asking
Ok I think I got that drilled in my head now..lol
okay...
Before you do ANY OF THIS know that this is NOT all that needs to be done to uses CM'S ROM. Just a few answers.
Always follow all the directions...
That being said...
1.When you are running Windows just rename it "update" not "update.zip"
Windows adds the ".zip" already.
2.After placing update on the root of sd turn off your phone.
3.On your phone you have a home button and a power button. Hold them both at the same time until it boots up and goes past G1 screen and into recovery or a triangle.
4. To apply update open keyboard and press alt+s.
So I've had my G1 for a while now on the stock non-rooted OS and I decided to try to get a 2.1 rom installed on it. After looking around and reading quite a bit, I primarily went off of this blog post to get it done. hxxp://www .myhangoutonline.com/component/content/article/342-tutorials/7-root-and-upgrade-your-g1
I got it downgraded to RC29 successfully and went through the rooting process. Once I tried to reboot it into recovery mode, my phone just sat at the G1 screen indefinitely. Waited up to an hour and restarted the entire process about 3 times with the same result. Then I started looking around thinking maybe the DREAIMG.nbh file that was provided was no good and I got one linked off of this site hxxp:// androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/
So the next time I tried to start over by restoring to the RC29 image it gets all the way through and fails at the end. It says "Update Terminate UPDATE FAIL". I tried going back to the image that worked a few minutes prior to that and I'm getting the same thing.
Any ideas on what I need to do? I'm stuck without a phone until I get this resolved...
Your post is difficult to understand.
The first question:
WHY did you install an NBH file?
The second question:
WHAT *exactly* did you do to the thing?
The third question:
WHY are you trying again to install an NBH file?
The fourth question:
What is it doing now?
The fifth and final question:
HOW can you possibly justify following a bunch of steps that some retard spewed out on a "blog"?
Note: NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER write an NBH file to your phone!!! Especially once you have root! NEVER.
Note2: you say its stock tmoble-branded htc dream? That means android 1.6 and I believe susceptible to the 1-click-root bug... why didn't you run the 1-click root?
What happens if you try to boot the phone ***NORMALLY*** (instead of recovery)?
What happens if you plug in the USB and run "adb logcat"?

1. I installed the nbh file because that's what was in every single set of instructions I've found said to do. Step 1 is to downgrade your phone to RC29 for US phones, and the DREAIMG.nbh file is the way to do that from everywhere that I've seen, mostly here and the cyanogenmod forums. If there is a better guide to follow, please link me.
2. I've already explained this. I followed the following instructions:
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
o Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the
notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
o Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
o A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select
Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAIMG.nbh file to the SD card.
(RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry boot loader mode. You should see a
gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you
don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT
DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
Rooting your RC29 or lower phone:
On RC29 phones and lower, anything you type into your keyboard is also being run in a hidden console
with root permissions. More information regarding that at the bottom of this post. But, to get root access,
do the following:
Instructions:
1. Download recovery.img or the new version by Amon recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2.img and copy
it to your SD card (see the previous instructions on how to copy from your computer to your
Phone's SD card).
2. Download the Hard SPL and copy the zip file to the SD card.
3. All files must be on the root of your SD card.
4. Restart your phone. Wait for your phone to start up fully and show the home screen.
5. After your phone starts up, hit the enter key twice, type "telnetd" and press enter. (Yes, it
will start up a contact search, don't worry. Just type it.)
6. Download an Android "Telnet" application from the Market and connect to localhost.
7. If you connect successfully, you will have a root prompt "#".
8. Type the following into Telnet (these commands will give you root access easier in the future):
o mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
o cd sdcard
o flash_image recovery recovery.img
o cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
Now you have root!

3. Already explained in #1. Again if there is a better, easier guide to follow by all means show me. I am new to this, and from what I've seen if noobs ask "how do I do this" around here, they get flamed for not figuring it out for themselves. Something I'm also sensing from your post.
4. I've gotten past my initial problem. This morning I was shown another DREAIMG.nbh file from another source, and I was able to get it on the phone and get it to boot. I've since gone through the root process (using the guide posted above), but I still can't get it into recovery mode. So that's where I'm now stuck.
5. As opposed to a bunch of steps some retard spewed on a "message board"? All of the guides I've gone through were either on or linked to from this forum or the cyanogenmod forum. Both I assume reputable sources for this type of thing.
Note: I think you need to show me another guide because what you're saying contradicts everything I've seen.
Note2: Don't know. Everything I've seen says I have to go back to 1.4 to be able to root it because the security holes were closed in 1.6.
The phone is again back to the 1.4 image from the nbh file. I've tried to root it and get it to recovery mode without any luck, so I could use some guidance on what to do from here. I'm not really sure what adb logcat is or why I'd want to do it.

Just because it was written does NOT make it right.
The process of rooting does NOT require an NBH file.
The process of REPAIDING NEVER needs an NBH file.
You should NEVER TOUCH an NBH file. The ONLY thing an NBH file does is it increases the risk that you will brick your phone by a bad flash.
Don't do it!

Define "can't get it into recovery". WHAT recovery do you have installed? The stock one that came with the NBH? Or some OTHER recovery that you installed? You say that it boots into the OS now? Congratulations. DO NOT INSTALL ANOTHER NBH FILE EVER!
What you need to do is install an engineering SPL, and NOT 1.33.2005! Try 1.33.2003.
You can then flash anything you like using FASTBOOT.

Again, what did you do to get there?
I can see that this can quickly escalate into an unnecessary back and forth argument. So to avoid that how about I tell you what I've done and where I'm at currently, and you can inform me on what to do to get to my goal?
From what I've seen I had to essentially do the following things:
1. downgrade to RC29
2. root
3. upgrade radio and SPL
4. Install ROM to get to 2.1
What I've done:
1. Formatted my sdcard to fat32, and put the DREAIMG.nbh file on the root of the sdcard.
2. Shutdown. Start up the phone holding the camera button. Got to the gray screen to update, pressed the power button to update.
3. Update successful. Rebooted by pressing call, menu, and power buttons.
4. Went through the setup wizard to set up the phone with my google account.
5. Installed telnet application from the market.
6. Downloaded recovery.img and spl-signed.zip (Danger SPL) and put them on the root of the sdcard.
7. From home screen, pressed enter twice. Typed telnetd.
8. Opened telnet application. Typed the following commands:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img/CODE]
9. Shut down phone. Held down the home button while powering phone on in attempt to get to recovery mode.
10. Phone did not go into recovery mode, but went to this image on the screen: (can't post links, so fix the url)
hxxp:// www .modmygphone.com/wiki/images/1/1b/Howtofirm1.png
Currently, the phone is showing the following:
Firmware version 1.0
Baseband version 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
kernel version 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #6
Build number kkila-user 1.0 TC4-RC29 115247 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
What exactly do I need to do from here to get a 2.1 rom installed?

First you need to be really carefull with the danger spl (make sure you have the right radio installed before installing that spl or bye bye to your phone). You need to install Amon Ra's new recovery. Put 2.1 on sd card. Wipe and flash.

I got the radio upgraded to 2.22.29.26I.
Turns out I have to hit alt-l to get past the ! screen in recovery mode. So now I should be able to install the danger spl, and then the rom, right?
The one I'm seeing with the guide is Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1.

To be honest I would flash Amon Ra's new recovery first so you can flash the danger spl and then the rom without a reboot in between. And if you want to install that version of cyanogen you really don't need the danger spl, but if you want to jump up to his 5.0.7 Test5 you'll need to (thats the 2.1 version).
If you want to avoid bricks, you really should NEVER go straight from 0.95.x000 SPL --> 1.33.2005 SPL. The reason for this is that there is no way to make that jump without using recovery, and since those SPLs are so different from each other, it has to use the cache-->update-hboot-->recovery-wipe-cache approach, which is where bricks come from.
If you have a 0.95.x000 SPL and want to go to 1.33.2005, you FIRST go to 1.33.2003 (that's a THREE) using recovery (since 0.95.x000 and 1.33.2003 have equal compatibility) -- this opens up the door for using FASTBOOT to flash your SPL. The move between ANY pair of engineering SPLs using fastboot is guaranteed safe since it can never get stuck in a failed boot-recovery (brick).
Okay i have this caution sign with a phone under it and i got this phone from my friend.
I have no idea how to get rid of it. i tried using dreaimg.nbh and holding camera and power button but it doenst work. tried using a update.zip file and it didn't work.
Any help...? :/
EDIT: i tried putting the .nbh file in an update.zip and it says no signature, verification..
Did you try pressing Alt+L at that screen and then following the commands to wipe it before running the update.zip?
do hard reset
Hey, u can do a hard reset.
When does this sign come up?
On the exclamation screen press alt+w(ie alt and w together), your phone will be factory reset!
Please provide more information so that i can help u, like when does this screen come up and all.
It always comes up, everytime i boot up the phone it is stuck on the caution sign.
Ive tried using alt+l and alt+w, been through the whole factory reset.
Nothing works from the recovery screen.
Can you get into Fastboot (Power + Camera)? If you can, you may be able to configure in fastboot to run a different recovery instead of the stock recovery.
See this to configure Fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
It's worth a shot since the Stock Recovery isn't doing it for you.
EDIT: I just re-read your post and you said Fastboot doesn't work. So the only other thing I can think of is reverting to an older version of the software. You said that you attempted to put the *.nbh file in a folder you named "update.zip". Did you actually make the zip folder or did you download the zip folder? If you created the zip folder (just took a folder, dropped the *.nbh in there, and then zipped it) then the signing would be the issue.
When you say nothing works from the recovery screen, does that mean when you press Alt + L the screen doesn't change layouts? Or do you get the text information?

There is only one rom for this phone and that is the Open Zio Rom. it is in this section under the Zio M6000 Android Development section, make sure you follow all instructions to the letter. This includes Backing up your current Rom and wiping it to install the new one.
Edit Here is the direct liink to the OP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073889
I just got a Zio 2 days ago, and the basic process is this:
1) Get ClockwordMod Recovery for the Zio here - follow the instructions in that post, to the letter - but ONLY when you're actually ready to get the ROM installed because you need to copy it to the microSD storage card *first* so CWM can install it.
2) Get OpenZio ROM 2.1.2 from here - download it, but do NOT extract the Zip archive. It needs to remain a Zip file.
3) Plug in the Zio making sure you have a microSD card in it that can hold the OpenZio ROM archive (openZIO_ROM_2.1.2_Spz0.zip 81MB) - hopefully you're using something like a 2GB or larger microSD card so you've got space. Copy the Zip archive to the root of the microSD card (makes it easier to find).
Also note: this ROM does not run off the microSD card like some phones are capable of, the Zio can't do such things, at least that I'm aware of.
4) Once the ROM archive is copied to the Zio, and while the Zio is still plugged into the computer (because you're about to use the boot over USB capability it offers, aka fastboot), shut the Zio down completely.
5) When the Zio is powered off, press the Send (green) and Power (red) buttons at the same time and hold them for roughly 10 seconds or so, might be less on your phone, I don't know. What you'll see is the Kyocera logo (probably) on the screen and some white text in the upper left side.
When you've waited about 10 seconds, let the Send and Power button go. If everything is working properly, your computer should notify you that a USB device is now attached - with Windows you'll get that "duh-dunk" sound.
6) Follow the instructions for Clockwordmod Recovery as noted in step 1 - now is when you follow them to the letter. Open the command prompt, change to the directory, run the command:
fastboot boot clockwork-recovery.img (press Enter)
After a few seconds it should finish the process on screen (on the computer) and you'll note activity on the Zio itself, after a few more seconds you should see a blank screen with green text options at the top. Use the Volume control buttons to move up and down the selections, use the button under the scroll ball (press the ball down till you feel it "click") to make the selection highlighted.
Use the normal Back softkey to back up a step, etc. You can also use the Home softkey to go back to the main CWM menu at any time.
6) Choose the "Install from zip" option, browse for the file the openZIO_ROM_2.1.2_Spz0.zip file in the root of the microSD card, say yes to the confirmation messages, and wait for it to flash the ROM. When it's done, press Back or Home to get back to the main CWM menu, then select "Reboot the phone" and that's about it.
It should reboot into OpenZio 2.1.2 from that point on. If you don't see the somewhat familiar green Android with the glowing silver-gray circle and the green-swishy water pattern, well... I didn't the first time I did this until I read someplace that OpenZio is best installed on a device that has just been freshly restore to the stock 2.2.1 image from Cricket - as Spz0 said in the OpenZio thread, this ROM is for the Cricket Zio but it might work on the Sprint model. It's your choice to try it if you've got the Sprint model.
Because I wasn't getting any noticeable improvements in performance, I decided to go back to the factory Cricket Zio image (found here and THEN I installed OpenZio and THEN I noticed a boost in most everything.
So, the proper method is make sure it's got a factory/stock 2.2.1 installation on it, then install OpenZio 2.1.2 on top of that, and when it boots the first time (it'll take longer, of course), you should see that little green robot and then swirly water mist thingy... you're good to go if you do.
Hope this helps...
