Hi everyone,
I have had this new xperia and love it, I have decided I would like to update my rom but want to make sure I have not missed anything.
If it's not to much to ask can someone let me know if this guide is missing any steps.
my phone and me are both virgins.
Thanks
------------------------------------
Preperation:
1. First lets download all that you will need in order to flash your rom.
Hard_SPL_X1_V1-
And of course download any custom rom made for the X1 of your choice...that is all you will need!
2. Extract the HardSPL somewhere on your pc, you might aswell extract the rom file somewhere on your pc too.
3. Connect your phone via activesync to your pc
4. When you are connected, (I let it finish synchronising one last time, to ensure all of the data on my pc was up to date with the current data on my phone), you then go to where you extracted "X1_HardSPL.exe" and you run it...
5. Follow the instructions at some point it should say something like "Image Version: 1.02.111.7" to "1.00.X1"
When asked, press "Yes" on the X1
6. - Now a Tri-color screen should show up, showing some version Information
After that, a progressbar screen will be shown and the phone will reboot when finished
Click "Finish" on the PC
(To check if you succeeded, turn the device off (long power button press). Then hold the volume down button and turn the device on again, still holding the volume down button until the Tri-color screen shows up. It should read something like:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707)
Remove and reinsert the battery to exit bootloader mode
You completed the first step and are now able to flash any ROM you want to your X1! (Well, at least any ROM made for the X1 of course ;-))
Steps 2-6 need only to be done once...from here on forward should you wish to flash another rom you do not need to install HardSPL again as it is already on your phone.
Flashing your Rom (The fun begins):
7. Rename the rom file you downloaded from whatever.nbh (usually it is ruu_signed.nbh) to Kovsimg.nbh (you can rename it on your pc or on your phone once you have transferred it over)
8. Start up the phone normally, if you have not already done so...then connect it to your pc...(at this point you can connect it without activesync, just as a memory card reader so that you can copy over your rom faster)
Copy your rom into the root of the memory card.
(You can also use any external memory card reader/writer connected to the pc and copy over the file)
Remeber to make sure all files have been deleted off your memory card.
9. Insert the memory card into the phone (You never know somebody might forget to do it :-S )
10. Turn off the phone completely, not standby mode (USB cable must not be attached)
11. Remove and reinsert the battery (This step can be skipped if you made sure you turned off the phone in step 10, this is just in case somebody put the phone in standby instead)
12. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button while still holding both of these buttons until the tri-color screen pops up.
13. Follow the onscreen instructions (It should install the rom +-5mins)
14. When you see the screen say "Succesfully updated", you can then go ahead and remove the battery and reinsert it.
Getting ready to see results (one last step):
Do not skip this step!!! This may result in errors!!!
15. Do a hard reset : Hold down the two silver buttons directly under the screen, while holding them down push the power button, you should then be presented with a screen that asks you to press "R" to reset your device....so go ahead and flip open the keyboard and press "R", when it completes it will ask you to press "Spacebar" to restart the device...go ahead..
16. You are done!
You have now flashed your rom....after it restarts please note the first time it starts up again will take longer than normal, you will be presented with all the normal setup's as you first did when you got your phone...
Like stylus setup and time and date etc...
With this particular rom that I flashed approximately 3/4mins after getting to the today screen a notification came up asking me to choose my operator and it then installed all the necessary connection settings for me....
You may also be asked to restart the device once more after the initial startup of the new rom, this is because upon first start up the rom may install some additional programs / cabs / tweaks which the "cooker" has cooked into the rom....
I cant think of anything more at this point, I tried to be as detailed as possible with this guide and use as much lame-man's terms as possible to make it clear and understandable....
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to post under this thread and I will answer to the best of my knowledge...
Once again thanks to XDA-Developers from whom I have learnt all of the above....

Thanks,
I have tomorrow off and will be flashing my rom tomorrow.
Now all I need to do is find the rom I want to use.
Is there a guide on all the different roms and what each one does and how it's different?
I know I want winmo 6.5 and htc touch.

Check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801
The only way to know which ROM is best for you is to try each of them out and see how it "fits" your personality.
Enjoy flashing!
I have not had time to do the rom flash, and might find a few hours tomorrow.
I have one last question, has any one done flashed a virgin phone in windows 7?
thanks
Need some assistance, I'm at the step where I have copied the rom to my sd card, I have renamed it to Kovsimg.nbh
I hold volume down and power on, i get a message no image file found.
I'm trying to use Jack_3.5b_Full.
I have formated the the flash memory to fat32, the rom is the only file on the card.
I have started the phone and I can see the memory card ok and the flash file.
Does any one have any idea's?
Thanks

Ok I just reformated the sd card and now it's working, go figure.
After a rom update has anyone noticed that the screen flickers on the bottom third?
I need some major help guys.... i need to send my g1 to tmobile but my only problem is i cannot seem to unroot. each time i get to the Grey and Blue screen it does not load, it says (loading no image)... then it goes back to the RAINBOW screen. im i doing something wrong? I have followed these steps. i would greatly appreciate your help.
I. Downgrade the SPL (If you never loaded a new SPL or are coming from a completely stock Donut G1, SKIP THIS SECTION).
1. Download the Original SPL:
Original SPL
2. Rename the Original SPL to Update.zip and place it (now named update.zip) on the SD card (not in any folder).
3. Turn off the phone
4. Turn on the phone holding Home and End key till the recovery screen pops up.
5. Hit Alt W to wipe the phone, then hit Alt S to load the update.zip
6. After the update is complete, press Home and Back to reboot.
7. Once the phone reboots to the G1 Logo, turn it off by taking out the battery. Then put the battery back in. *READ THE REPORTED ISSUES FOR A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS STEP!
II. Load the DreaIMG.nbh File
1. Download the Original DreaIMG.nbh file:
Original DREAIMG.nbh
2. If the file downloaded above downloads as a .Zip file, please unzip it first then put the DreamIMG.nbh file that is inside on the SD card, NOT in any folder. (If you did Section I the phone is off still, take out the memory card, put it in the MicroSD adapter and plug it into your computer to transfer the file over, since your G1 won’t turn on right now if you did Section I above. Otherwise if you did not need to do Section I above, then you can just put it on the SD card normally using the usb cable and the phone).
3. Turn the phone off if it is on.
4. Turn on the phone by holding the Camera button and the End key until the bootloader screen turns on.
5. Hit the End key to start the update. DO NOT INTERUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. Once it is done, hit the trackball to restart the phone. You now are on the stock firmware RC29.
First step is posting in correction section(Q&A). Second step is using the search.
Read the damn rules for posting new threads or go away
i did!! n i still didnt get help from the thread that was posted by {tubaking]
Did you place the file DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your sdcard??
yes i did... i even tried with rc30 but it didnt work.
i keep getting stuck on the last step. i have cynogenmod.
You are pressing camera+power to get this done??
yes i am...
i followed all the steps correctly..for some reason it keeps messing up at the end when it gets to the grey and blueish screen.
And is your card formatted to Fat32. And did you check the MD5sum on the file to make sure it's the complete file.
Wow mikey on here helpin.
yes it is formatted
i don't know what that is..MD5sum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Md5sum
how do i check if the MD5 is a complete file>?
To see if a given file is valid, pass the output of a previous md5sum run with the switch -c. Thus, the following two steps occur:
1. Compute the MD5 sum and store it in a file using md5sum file > file.md5
2. Check for validity with md5sum -c file.md5
If file is not present, omitting the file parameter or passing a - reads from standard input
i don't understand smh
Just redownload the RC29 file again and retry it then.
would you happen to have a RC29 file for download? i've tired about 4 different files

when i get to the rainbow screen it goes to the grey and blue screen to do the last loading. all it says "loading no image" then it goes back to the rainbow screen within 10 seconds. and ill have to pop the battery out and restart my phone regular again...
do you think something is wrong with the ROM that i have?
im also wondering if i can change the ROM and try to unroot if it will work...
any suggestions?
Hi all,
I'm a beginner to this stuff, so please bear with me. I've gotten an SGS from Optus here in Australia, with Android 2.1. I want to upgrade to 2.2, so here I am on these forums
I confirmed that there was no 3-button combo mode on this SGS, and have successfully installed the fix as detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201 (a much more painful process than I thought, having to get a hold of a Windows computer (wasn't comfortable using Windows in a VM to flash my phone, couldn't figure out how to get the 3-button on my SGS with Hiemdall), get the USB drivers from the Android SDK, install Java, stab self with spoon, etc)
Now I've gotten the 3-button combo on the phone, I have read through the FAQ thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596) and the thread on the newest ROM(?) Doc BUJP8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703).
Bearing in mind that I have never done this before, what the heck do I do next? I tried putting the BUJP8 file (BUJP8_Doc_V9.zip, renamed to update.zip) on the phone storage in a folder titled 'sdcard', rebooted with ADB and got told that the phone couldn't extract the update.zip file. Is that correct? Do I need any other files to update my phone from 2.1 to 2.2?
Edit: The phone tells me "E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) Installation aborted."
I'm rather frustrated and grumpy I know that I'm missing something, so if you can please let me know what to do next, that would be excellent!
From the threads installation instructions. This rom works fine on Optus (I'm using it as well) with Dark Theme.
BTW, don't rename the Doc ROM to update.zip. You need to use the clockwork file as update.zip (see below)
Good luck
Installation Steps (Read this very carefully!)
01. Download the ROM (which you seem to already have downloaded) and put it on your internal sdcard.
02. Download clockworkmod recovery from here: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-galaxys.zip
You *need* Clockworkmod, this won’t work with stock recovery.
03. Rename the clockworkmod recovery file to “update.zip” and put it on your internal sdcard.
*SKIP THIS STEP AS YOU'RE COMING FROM AN OFFICIAL OPTUS ROM WITH NO TWEAKS*
04. If you had Voodoo installed prior to installing this ROM (Eclair or Froyo), make sure you still have the "disable lagfix" folder inside "/sdcard/Voodoo". If you’re coming from sztupy’s kernel, make sure you have disabled all Lagfixes from CWM.
05. Shutdown phone, wait for it to power down, then boot the phone into recovery mode (press volume up, keep it pressed, then press home button, keep it pressed, then press power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it).
06. Select “apply sdcard:update.zip” (use volume rocker to move up and down, and home button to select). Clockworkmod recovery will boot now (you may have to do apply update.zip twice for Clockworkmod to show up).
07. Once in Clockworkmod, select “install zip from sdcard” (use volume rocker to move up and down and the back button to select).
08. Select “choose zip from sdcard” and then select the ROM zip package. Then choose yes.
09. The update will start (will take some 5 minutes) and during the flashing you will see some strange big characters on the screen, don’t worry, that’s normal. After the process finishes, you will be dropped back into Clockworkmod recovery. From there, choose go back, and then reboot phone.
10. The first boot will take some time as the ROM will deodex
11. After the phone boots up, shutdown phone again, and then boot into recovery. The phone will boot DIRECTLY into Clockworkmod. From there, select "advanced ULK features", then "Lagfix options". You can select any of the lagfix schemes (description here). I recommend NO-RFS advanced EXT4 (others are known to have issues and may cause loss of data)

Woot! All working now The trick I hadn't worked out from all the instructions was to put the update.zip file in the root of the phone storage as seen by Windows, as it wasn't clear if I should have created a folder called 'sdcard' and putting update.zip there or not.
So once I worked out that putting update.zip in the root of the phone storage was the correct thing to do, I could finally get the recovery mode and have the phone successfully see 'update.zip'!
The phone has booted, and I've shut it down and gone back to clockwork, but there isn't a 'NO-RFS advanced EXT4' option for lagfix - the closest is 'NO-RFS advanced (a=e4)' - is this the EXT4 option, just badly rendered?

How long did it just sit there? Starting up a new ROM the first time sometimes takes a few minutes or more. It it's not rebooting itself, let it sit and load.
maybe

more info is needed to help you. What steps did you take EXACTLY? get long winded. Like what root method, what recovery, what wipe process, what flash process, etc.
Okay...I used Z4Mod and went with a permanent root (seemed to be successful)...I grabbed the free version of ROM manager from the mkt place...I then flashed Clockwork Recovery in ROM Mgr...Finally, I selected "Install ROM from SD Card." A prompt showed up and I selected "Backup Existing ROM" and "Wipe Data and Cache." After checking OK, it rebooted and froze on the HTC screen for 15+ minutes two times. I have two zip files on my sd card: "update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Heroc-signed.zip" and "gapps-mdpi-20101213-signed.zip" This is as far as I could get...thanks!
Well when you chose to backup existing rom that was good. When you chose to wipe data that was bad. Now your phone can't boot into anything because you wiped all of your data. But you were smart and made a backup. A general rule of thumb at least IMO
Is only wipe data if your flashing a new rom or having trouble with an exiting one. With that being said. Just boot into recovery by
Holding home and power until you see your recovery
Then look for an option that says install update zip from sd or update from sd. I don't use clockwork mod but I'm sure its something to that effect. Then choose install from sd or what ever the option was. Then you should see your two rom zips on your sd choose which one to install, let it finish and reboot. Being a fresh install it might take a minute. Or if you want to go back to your factory rom just look for an option that says restore and choose your backup you made when you used rom manger. Hope this helps good luck.
Yea its me Again With the

Instead of installing from ROM Manager, select the option to Reboot Into Recovery.
From there, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, then select Wipe Cache Partition, then go into Advanced and select Wipe Dalvich Cache.
Once those steps are complete, go back to the main menu and select Install zip from SD Card, then select Choose zip from SD Card. Find the CM zip and select it.
Once it completes, select Install zip from SD card again, find the gapps zip and select it.
Go back to the main menu again, and select Reboot now.
That's an old build of 6.1 anyway, grab the "stable" release instead.
Thanks for all of your assistance. Where can I find a current, stable 6.1 download file? I will replace it on my sd card before going forward.
Also, how do I get to the boot/recovery screen? When I choose recovery, it freezes with the HTC screen...I have success getting the phone back to original when I select fastUSBboot, or something similar to that...
Trying powering off, then press and hold the Home button while you press and release (don't hold) the Power button.
If that doesn't work, try pressing the volume up button while pressing the Power button.
Turn off the phone and hold volume down and power. A white screen will appear from there press the home button. It will take a good 15 to 20 seconds to get into recovery. Are you waiting long enough???
Or power off phone and hold power and home untill it boots into your recovery remember it takes a few seconds 10 to 15 seconds
Yea its me Again With the
Modified Hero-
I selected the home key to get into recovery...after 10+ minutes of showing the HTC screen, I think there is something wrong. This goes back to the same issue when I originally attempted to install the CM ROM - it was supposed to reboot into recovery but instead restarted into a frozen HTC screen. What ele can I do? Can I just go back to original and try all over again? I had to take the battery out and reset the device...
After Fastbooting, I lost network access and can't get into the marketplace...When I go into ROM manager to restore the backup, it just sits and looks like it is working on it...How long should this take? Is 10 min too long?
So your able to boot into your rom right.??? So just go to rom manger and choose flash alternate recovery. Place a different recovery on your sd and flash it. Or just flash the clockwork recovery. Basically I think you need to get into recovery first.
Yea its me Again With the
Modified Hero-
I think you're right as far as getting into recovery being the key...Since my network is down, I had to try "Flash Alternative Recovery," but it showed "An error occurred while flashing your recovery" ...Is there another alternative to getting a new recovery installed?
My network connection just started working...I had to uncheck and recheck the connect to network...Clockwork recovery finally worked and I was able to install 6.0 and the Google apps...Thanks for all of your help! I do have one additional question - How do I set up my apps to store on the sd card instead of the internal memory? Thanks again
I'm having a similar issue as OP.
This is my first time trying to load CM7 on my Hero CDMA. I rooted my phone successfully and then installed Amon_Ra's Recovery (v1.6.2) and wiped the data/Dalvik-cache and then flashed CM7 and Google Apps. Everything seemed to install without problem.
However, when I reboot the device it doesn't get past the initial "HTC" screen.
I then attempted to use adb to look at the logs but when I boot into recovery mode and enable USB mode, the computer doesn't recognize an HTC device/serial:
c:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
000000000000 recovery
and trying to access the logs or run shell commands through adb fails.
It's been stuck on the "HTC" logo for 10 minutes; I'm not sure if I just need to wait it out or if something has gone awry. Did I just brick my phone or can this be salvaged?
I managed to flash whatever I had backed up from nandroid, but it's incredibly unstable. Took several resets and almost an hour stuck on the "HTC" splash screen before booting. I have missed calls and can make them, which is a good sign, but I'm repeatedly hit with an error "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".
I can't post pastebin links since I'm new, but I have dumps of logcat and /proc/last_kmsg.
At this point I'd be happy to either get CM working OR revert back to a stable stock ROM.
How did you root ???
Also what's your baseband/ radio ??
Also what hboot are you currently on ??

I needed to have a phone so I took it back to Sprint and they were able to do a factory reset. So while I'm glad it's not bricked, I'd prefer to have a better ROM on here.
I rooted using the following set of commands:
adb push asroot2 /data/local/
adb shell
chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/bin
cat sh > su
chmod 4755 su

Build number: 1.56.651.2 CL85027 release-keys
Software version: 1.56.651.2

I'm not sure how to find out the hboot version.
When you first rooted or before did you make a backup/nandroid ?? Also after you rooted did you flash a recovery ??

Ok this is taken from the HTC SPAIN site (Im only translating it)
1.- Download both files at the bottom:
2.-You will need to install the OMAP4430 drivers (they are inside the file you just download)
a) open device manager
b) Connect the phone to usb with out the battery,
c) you will see "omap4430 device" appearing and disappearing
d) as soon as you see it right click on it and chose proprieties
e) click on the drivers tab and select update driver
f) select the driver on the folder "usb_drv_windows" from the file you downloaded and install them
g) wait till it finish installing them
[Edited by pete3000 to make the process more understandable]
3.- now run the file "Instalar Recovery ICS Europeo.bat" then:
a) Connect the USB cable from the phone to the PC without the battery
b) Wait until the message "Wait 5-Seconds...", then put the battery in.
c) Wait until installation is complete and you see the green screen and the message.
------------------------------
Installed recovery!
Please remove the USB cable
------------------------------
d)Now you can disconnect the cable USB, remove the battery, return the battery, and boot the phone.
4.- Copy the "Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip" file to memory (either internal or external SD card) and install it with in CWM
5. to boot into Clockwork Mod, shut the phone down all the way
a) hold down the 3D button, the VOL DOWN and POWER at the same time. (some say hit vol up but this didn't work for me)
b) when the backlight comes on the screen, let go of the power and vol DOWN ONLY, keeping the 3D held down until you see the clockworkmod touch interface come up.
c) choose install zip from sdcard
find the Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip file using the vol + and - keys.. then scroll downpast the No's to the YES and tap it on the screen.
And you will have a rooted ISC V30B
Enjoy!

i followed this quide but now when i boot up i have greyd in lg logo is there a way to get rid of this or?
I wish this was as easy as you make it sound. When i plug my phone into the computer with no battery in, device manager takes 5 seconds or so to load the devices again, and by that time, there is no omap option to select. Is the omap driver messed up, maybe we could modify it to work without the device manager work around
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
got it working but would have liked to see it in english
Finally got it to work!
Notes that should be added. Before Step 3, Take the "leeme.txt" file and throw it into Bing Translate you will see this (rearranged/edited to help from the sequence above):

(some say hit vol up but this didn't work for me)
b) when the backlight comes on the screen, let go of the power and vol DOWN ONLY, keeping the 3D held down until you see the clockworkmod touch interface come up.
c) choose install zip from sdcard
find the Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip file using the vol + and - keys.. then scroll downpast the No's to the YES and tap it on the screen.

did you need to have the normal lg drivers installed also, mine stays at the grey lg logo, and the pc seem to be finding all the other device that need drivers.
Omap4boot stays at a blue screen " waiting for device "never turns green, does it normally complete everything at the grey lg logo?

ok got it working there was a 2nd device in device manager i had to manually direct to the same driver folder....
Again, it would have been easier if the BAT file was written in English. maybe some dev on here can update it. I would also like to see them use the adb capabilities and install the su, so you dont have to go into CWM to install it.
Now we need an update to WIFI Tether, unless someone finds a successful combination in the program for setting it up. it had settings for the thrill 4g running froyo and gingerbread.
Thanks all this worked great. I'm also looking for a tehering hotspot fix.

c) if it won't boot up select the driver on the folder "usb_drv_windows" from the file you downloaded and install them again
d) Wait until installation is complete and you see the green screen and the message.

!! IMPORTANT!! be careful using ROM MANAGER with rooting your phone w/this method
The Clockworkmod recovery this bat file uses is a little bit old and has a "reboot" bug. To avoid it, Do not install the ROM MANAGER on google play and immediately boot to the CWM. ROM MANAGER sets a trigger that keeps rebooting into the old CWM and never back to the regular OS. It's officially called the Clockworkmod reboot loop
To fix this, I used this tool which launches a .BAT file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2144738 similar to the one you rooted with above. you will need to update the clockwork mode to version 6.0.1.9 (option 5). i also flashed the ICS boot loaders too (option 8).
when i rebooted the phone a new version of CWM showed up and all i had to do was reboot thru CWM. And i was back to the at&t boot screen.

So are you running ICS or GB? Option 5 is for GB. Just double checking before I follow your lead.
Nevermind... I did the update with ICS and it worked fine. The only difference I see is you will need to hold down the power button and vol down longer when you boot it into CWM. If you release the power button and vol down button as soon as you see the back light it shuts down instead of boot.
I made an attempt to edit the settings.db , hoping to regain my hotspot functionality.. No luck the phone hung during boot. So I decide to factory reset it. Now there is no entitlement entries in the settings.db. The file is much smaller. I'm guessing the carrier has moved the wifi entitlement to another db.
i found a wifi tether post for ICS in the O3D area, but it didnt work either..
i saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181555 but his settings didn't work. I hope someone can help us with it soon. i filed a bug report to the actual wifi router site.
I got hotspot working. I'll send details after I get home this evening.
ICS Rooted LG Thrill AT&T Tethering
I put the instruction on the tethering thread.

Hi Pete. Personally i had a problem with the easy form of rooting the stock ICS, because i got the clockwork mod loop when i tried to go back into a factory reset.
Can i Use your method with a stock ICS in my thrill?
Another question is, Have any body fix the movie player missed function in ICS? because in GB i can play any 3D movie, whatever the format and can change it.
Thanks for your time
yes. I used it with stock ICS from AT&T/LG.
for 3D movies, open the movie in the stock player. you will see a side by side version of the movie. Hit the 3D button then hit the the settings button to choose side-by-side.

I wish this was as easy as you make it sound. When i plug my phone into the computer with no battery in, device manager takes 5 seconds or so to load the devices again, and by that time, there is no omap option to select. Is the omap driver messed up, maybe we could modify it to work without the device manager work around

Please hold Vol - while you're plugging the phone in, hold it down whilst you are in Device Manager, something should pop up stating OMAP-344 Or whatever the number shows up as.
