Do you have SMS Popup? If so, you just open that and uncheck notifications.
There is no original sms popup.
ya i have original sms pop up if theres not original pop up then theres something wrong with my phone lol cause i get two different bubbles one from handcent and the other from what i thought was the original sms pop up bubble.

go into chomp's settings and turn off notifications.
then go into default android sms and turn off notifications.
go back into chomp and turn on notifications.
this should make it so your g1 only notifies via chomp. however, if you still get multiple alerts for a new sms, one of the envelopes will have a greenish border...this is the notification for chompsms. it looks almost exactly like the default icon, but it has the green color around the envelope thingy.
WOOO
Great! Simple! Easy! Awesome App Finally A Way To Text Without Sliding The Qwerty Out...great Work

I left dgalert installed and turned of notification in chompsms, made sure when asked which to use as a default, set chomp as default. Now i get the benefits of chompsms with one notification, just dont get the green envelope.
I kinda wish it wasn't a direct bite of the iPhone Texting module and it was made custom to the G1...its still cool though.
I kinda wish it supported MMS. Except for the better rates on international texting via Chomp, it's fairly useless to me.
I know there are already sms popup apps out there but I would like to reply straight from the pop up window. Handcent sms has a good example of it but you have to use there messaging application which has a really bad lag. But you can see what I mean here: http://www.handcent.com/images/popup.png
So in a nut shell a sms popup app that you can reply from straight fro.m the pop window that uses the default messaging app.
Thank you all devlopers that take this into consideration

I think you answered your own question. Its called sms popup. You can reply within the pop up window and use the default messenger.

Dont think you understood it correctly .. sms pop up pops up and lets u hit reply which then take you to your messaging app, he wants a pop up that has an input field for the reply text already in it..
The iPhone has an ill one like that...u dont even have to unlock the phone to reply...
you can use the popup from handcent and use your default messaging app. u dont have to use handcent. handcent and the default apps "talks" with eachother and syncs. so anything udo in handcent is done in the default.
all you have to do is turn off all notifications from handcent and enable notifications for default and just use the popup feature from handcent.
or u can try a widget called Text Widget that does something simliar. it too uses the default msg app and it lets u reply within the quick reply box.

Both of those will work for what you want. I just wish smsPopup had the ability to clear the message as new but not look at it.

Great Thanks
other question about this: does handcent need the messaging app to work? cause i never use my messaging app, but often it boots without my asking. Mostly after some texting.
I have deleted the stock messaging app and installed Handcent. Whenever I receive a text message, I receive two notifications. The first is the stock messaging envelope icon, followed by the Handcent icon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Go to the messenger menu and click on the notification and that should fix it

You need to reinstall the stock mms.apk, then go in and uncheck the notifications. Just leave the mms.apk alone, there isn't a reason to remove it, it's tied into other things with the phone
Can anyone tell me where this pop up is coming from? It pops up when new text messages arrive and also an event from facebook arrives. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1aedJudl0n9cR8oxyCrSiaeI1sEZsZX_7
I've never seen that, that doesn't look like anything on stock Samsung.

Same here, I have pop up notifications on, but they show the message content at the top of the screen
I've tried to figure out where it is coming from, but have no idea. It has only appeared for text messages and facebook alerts. I've checked setting for both apps and can't find the culprit. If someone can figure it out, it would be much appreciated.
So you must not be using the stock Samsung messages app cause stock doesn't support facebook integration. Looks like you are using Go SMS?

Yes I use GO SMS, I checked the notification settings there as well, even disabled all notifications on GO SMS, and changed the default app to messages and I still get the popup. Hmmmm.....
