I'm new and Have some questions on X1 - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I plan on buying the X1 when I get my $5500 next week. My most recent phone was the Motorola Rokr E6(Linux Based) and I'm coming from the Motorola Deveploment Community. I've owned a Sony before (W810i) and loved it, so I want to get the X1. I've never used WM before So I hope modding won't be hard to learn. My questions are: Is there Emulaters for the X1 like Nitendo, Super Nitendo, Sega, GBA, N64, and PS1. I had these on my E6 and loved them. Also what about the Doom expansions and Quake expansions as well, I also played these on my E6. Aslo can we overclock the processor and use Swap partions to, Also things I loved about the E6. I looked in the thread for noob questions but 4 pages in it was just people saying how much they don't like noobs posting unneccesary posts and how much they don't like noobs basically so I stopped looking in the thread and decided to post this thread. I aplogize if these questions were posted somewhere else. Thank you for your time and I can't wait to learn WM modding.

All the Emulators are performing like crap (on the MSM720*).
Only (low action) SNES games on Morphgear, like Mario or other lame games (sorry but i hate platforms) where actually able to play on a decent framerate.
Secret of Mana for example was unplayable, unless you like humongous lag. Enabling sound only makes it worse. At the time I actually gave a crap about it, I couldnt stand playing it any longer then 10 minutes, since the qwerty keyboard is not usuable for gaming (in a comfort way, it functions fine in morphgear)
Emulation on WM6.1 is bull****, apart from the PS1 emulator that is, even though the MSM7200 is immensely underpowered for it, seeing that thing on a Snapdragon or OMAP3 chipset (youtube it) is pure awesomeness.
My S.E. M600 did GBA/SEGA Genesis emulation about 4 times as fast, and thats with an 208Mhz ARM9 chip.
Do not buy the X1 if you like playing (console) games.

Thanks for the reply, My E6 had a intel PXA270 chipset clocked at 312mhz but with overclocking I could boost it to 528mhz and 620mhz and that vastly improved gaming, Can we do this on the X1?. And what about Doom and Quake.

Welcome to the forums .
1 - Yes. Most will have some lag, but the good thing is there are many to choose from. MorphGear, PicoDrive PocketNES, PocketSNES, etc. The emulator gaming is enjoyable, but will perfect.
You have a choice of hundreds of WinMo games + Java games + PC ports like StarCraft and Diablo, so there are plenty of games.
2 - Yes, you can play them on the X1. Quake is not modified for the WVGA resolution AFAIK, but Quake 3 is playable with a slow framerate. Doom worked only once for me, but I didn't bother to fix it. I just don't find those type of games playable without a mouse...
3 - No overclocking for the X1 so far. There are a couple of programs, but they either do nothing, or start once and then freeze.
Use search, read, learn and feel free to ask questions after that .

@orelsi thanks so much for the info. Sweet we can play Starcraft and Diablo. Dam no overclocking thats a shame. hmm so quake and doom are not made for the 800x400 res, thats okay I bet there is alot of 3d java games for the X1. And yes next time I wll use the search I just really needed to know these answers, and get a chance to talk to some members.

Double post. Mods, please delete it.

I'm glad that I was able to help .
About the games. When I got the X1, I was thinking that I would play games on it all the time. Well... it didn't work out that way lol. Between the browsing, reading rss feeds and books, tweaking options, mp3s, clips, etc. I barely got time for a quick game haha.
All the games are just rusting in the corner.
Nevertheless, when you think how hot StarCraft was back in the day and that now you can carry it in your pocket..... makes you wonder about the future .
Check out this list of games. It can give you a general idea:

Have been playing Chrono Trigger on Morphgear for months and no problem for me.
And if you can stand the black bar on the side of the screen, quake not being WVGA shouldn't be a problem.

One last thing, What about Swap Partions for the X1?

Well, I might've took things out of context, but i was REALLY disappointed in the Emulation capabilities of my X1.
I remember completely finishing multiple action-oriented SEGA Genesis games on my S.E. M600i (208mhz ARM9), Sonic&Knuckles (very fast platform), Streets of Rage (beat em up), Vectorman (action, platform), and some mickeymouse game (action/platform). All of these had perfect stereo sound, and i often had a framerate above realtime.
Then you can understand, that when i got my X1 (totally excited about its WAY FASTER CPU) and booted up similar games, i was extremely confused that i had no sound (without screwing my fps even more), terrible framerate and TBH, awefull controlls. That is the reason, why i think the X1, and all similar, underpowered Windows Mobile devices, is a PITA to play emulated games on.
About the swap. We dont have it (AFAIK), and we'll never need it. My percentage of Ram usage is always under 90%, no matter how many apps i open. Mainly this is because of a (IMO retarded) 16MB/32MB Ram per app limit.

Poor Gameplay with 2d games

Hi,
Has anyone else experienced poor/jerky gameplay with kaiser?
Seems to run fine for everything else but has trouble with the following games:
VT Pocket Tennis (old i know).
Pool Rebel
Seems slightly sluggish (although acceptable) with some of the other games in comparison to my tytn.
Can anyone make any suggestions for tweaks/tests?
Thanks

if they are old games that could be the reason why, it doesn have support for GDI i think it is. have you tryed any emulators? GBA for example?
www.sunbug.net
Thanks for the speedy reply!
Pool Rebel is a new release but is still very sluggish. I have contacted their support team as it may just be that the game is not optimised for the cpu.
VT pocket tennis was designed for PPC2002! Used to work very well on my TYTN but is virtually unplayable on TYTN II.
Will I be able to use the emulator on games designed for PPC?
I'm not sure what is the problem, but I can comfirm that the graphic chipset integrated in MSM7200 is one of ATI Imageon product.

http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/3dgaming_brochure.pdf
from the data sheet, the performance should be said as good, so perhaps the new graphic chipset is not supported?
Maybe HTC has disabled most of the Video chipset functionality, they have a habit of disabling everything before launch! *Shakes fist*
It does also look like the graphic chipset has 3d hardware support but so far you cant take adventage of it with direct3d because it only has referance drivers which doesnt use any of the hardware. But once HTC releases drivers that take advantage of this hardware it should be one kick butt gaming device...

I just got my kaiser, upgraded from a 200 mhz prophet, big difference everywhere except gaming. I have pocketSNES a Super nintendo emulator, and it runs OK, but when you play with sound it lags quite a bit. I thought this device was suppposed to have pretty good graphics??

this is not because it has poor graphics or has trouble playing it, it's cause PocketSnes hasnt been updated in such a long time it doesnt even support the phone completely or support teh GFX driver. however, have you tried Morphgear?
http://soft.softoogle.com/ap/morphgear-download-5321.shtml
Yeah, I tried pool rebel too ... and damn, it is so slow
Any reply from their support?
Btw, any good game for this Kaiser? The one that is nice and fast.
Support have replied. They will be adding Direct X support for the game in future release although have not specified when. That should hopefully improve performance. I have tried the following games and they work well:
Flux Challenge
Sky Force
Sky Force Reloaded
Resco Guardians
Anthelion 2
Argentum
Explode Arena
KRally
Snails
SPB AirIslands
Stolen In 60 Seconds
Cheers

Best games you have played and would recommend

Exactly as the title says.
Also post games you hate so we dont fall for them:
Games i've tried and recommend:
Age of empires gold (Name says it all)
Sim City 2000 (dito)
Dopewars (Addicting)
Teeter (Comes with the phone)
MC Poker (play online with other people Texas Hold 'em)
SkyForce Reloaded (Really fun; just try it)
Snood (aim and shoot "snoods" and match them up to destroy them)
Midnight Pool 3d ( Im a pool fanatic *demo comes with phone)
Games not to get:
Arvale II (just too simple / redundant. Its rpg style but it sucks (in my opinion))
Feel free to add on
Couple of old games I had that work well on my Sprint TP:
Acky's XP Breakout - VGA breakout-style game works nicely with the stylus
Atomic Cannon - Nice graphics on a Scorched Earth-type game. This one occasionally has a sound glitch where the sound stops, going into sound settings and disable/enable cycle fixes.
Bejeweled 2 - Of course. How can you go wrong?
Not all test on the TP but I was just looking on other forums about best games. And here is a list I made of games I wanna try
Call of Duty 2
Warfare Inc
Arvale and Arvale 2
Krally
minijetfight
UNDERCROFT
soldier ants.
SkyForce Reloaded
Lemonade inc
tots n togs
The Quest
Quake Mobile
Rayman Ultimate
pocket heroes
I would highly recommend Orions: Legend of Wizards and its expansions.
could you provide links as to where you get the games from...
yeah sure when i get to a computer. i gotta say some of those suggestions look really good. i warn you though if you get the arvale series only get the demos because you will be dissapointed
p.s. has anyone here actually played the quest? it looks interesting, but is it worth it?

lemings
syberia
warcraft2
ufo
and if one goes into the whole
amiga, c64, snes and MAME emulator
scene then it's a different question i guess
diff people diff tastes i like fps games as much as
the next guy but dont really feel it works on pda's using
the touch screen
tombraider worked ok but required many many hardbuttons to
work so dont believe any htc devices ever had the option to stop
the game without softreset
thanks for the recommendations. what am i not seeing with dopewars? i tried it for two seconds and was already bored (and a bit confused).
by the way, please indicate if your recommendations require extensive use of the d-pad (touchpad). we all know it's not the best to use and i've had to stop playing one of my favorites (ms. pac-man) because it's clumsy to navigate in fast-paced games without hitting the back or home buttons.
I have always been addicted to Quartz 2 and am glad to see that they have released a VGA version.

I never softreset when I want to stop playing TombRaider. Press Home button, click right corner (HTC Task Manager), hold your finger/stylus and drag until you'll see Tomb Raider, move to X (you need to hold your finger cos' the screen flickers).
Have you found a method to map the keys? The arrow keys are kinda reversed.
Some of the games I've tested:
- Rayman, bad control, poor framerate
- Prince of Persia HD, moves heavily
- Assassins Creed, again moves heavly, the game is not fluid
- Zuma Deluxe, nice one
- DragonBall, zuma deluxe style game, kinda slow
- Warfare Inc, nice strategy game
- I244 Machines at War, again nice strategy game
- Spore, kinda slow
- Lemmings
- NFS, jerky game
- Cokoto CartRacer, jerky game, poor graphics
- Rats, nice platform game but it's so slowly on TP
- Age of Empires
- Warcraft 2, i cannot select items properly.. it's like the screen is not calibrated
- TombRaider, this one runs really good. If I can remap the keys as I want..
- Bejeweled 2, nice logic game
- Pac-Man
- Quake III Arena
- Call of Duty II
I recommend (you don't need to rely on D-PAD for these games):
- Bejeweled 2
- Zuma Deluxe
- DragonBall (even if it's a bit slow)
- Warfare Inc
- I244 Machines at War
- Age of Empires
And for show-off:
- COD 2
- Quake III Arena

Handmark Scrabble works perfectly with pixel doubling. Highly recommended.
EA Mobile Scrabble is gorgeous, but unbelievably bad. The control was designed for mobile phones and it lacks enormously important features. Just... don't.
I have Handmark Scrabble and am very glad to know that when my device arrives on Friday that my favorite game will work. Curious about pixel doubling though, wouldn't there actually need to be pixel quadrupling in order to go from qvga to vga?
none of the games i recomended need the dpad... simcity2000 works well just run the tut. it can be a bit of a strain on the eyes sometimes.
Concerning d-pad troubles. Could there be a way to disable the phone and windows/back buttons prior to starting a game and automatically re-enable them when you quit? This way games would be much more playable...

Technically, yes. But since most of the math involved is just multiplying by two on each axis, "doubling" does make some sense. And it's shorter and easier to say.
OK, that's good enough for me.

APPLE's Iphone games/apps VS Windows Mobile Pocket PC's apps/games

hi i just seen the iphone/ipod touch apps and games, but comparing to our windows mobile apps and games iphone/itouch has wide selection and not also that, its much well detailed on the version comparing to WinMo
are there any no good developers to port this on WinMo? we win on the UI and customable home menu (UI sense) but in the entertainment section we failed
just for an example: EA games, the NFS undercover on iphone is much richer on both graphics and gameplay compare to WinMo version its just like a java version in a CAB file... but we all know WinMo has greater RAM and grafix (HTC HD had) i think WinMo lacks the developer
post your thoughts
its true,
but with the comming of snapdragon and tegra devices, the developers will soon follow.
(and hopefully PSP, DS and iPhone emulators :-D )
I think it's because iPhone must use its own apps and games. And other wm phones have more choices on apps. So they have to do these apps and games much better than those to attract the users to choose iPhone.
Do you want more games for WinMo , $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ dig deep.
Steve Jobs is not a billionaire because the iPhone has such a wide variety of apps and games that can be easily downloaded from XDA.
Anyway I read somewhere that WinMo is 3y behind iphone.
But catching up fast!!

Where did you read that? Macworld magazine.
Hey how come there are so many more games for my PS3 and the games are so much better than on my PC ...? Come on PC catch up...... my PC is at least 3 years behind my PS 3...
Yeah I've got so many great games and apps. Just purchased Bladesof Fury, which is basically a remake of Soul Calibur. Also a game called Gangstar which is like GTA. Gameloft make both, but all the games that have are great.
the iphone also has great hardware acceleration versus the windows phones, so games won't catch up until a significant hardware change accompanies a new mobile operating system.
the iphone was built from the ground up after seeing how everyone else did it for years. sure, MS could redesign everything to catch up, if not surpass the iphone, but what then? all the software that has been developed for resistive screens fall to the wayside and a HUGE user base is left behind.
i love windows, and couldn't even give android more than a day, but i easily accepts the facts that the iphone is one f'ing slick phone, but its the fanboy base that absolutely make me hate anything that is apple related. our OS isn't as smooth, never ever as pretty, and is definitely not as user friendly, so just take pride in the fact that it is a power-users phone and not well-built for the general masses.
thank you let me have a try
lol, wonna games - bye psp

Well... in terms of support for standards, no, but yeah, WinMo is old just like PalmOS was 2 or 3 years ago. That former died from not evolving for real, and I fear this is what awaits WinMo as soon as a capable mobile OS hits the shelves.
Ha! Because it is really "cool" to have half the screen obscured by your fingers or tilting your head with the phone... Pfffffff. Even a three year old can understand that you can't really play games without a hardware keyboard/d-pad. I can play touchscreen, accelerometer, hardware and d-pad games on WinMo phones, how many of those can iTards play? WinMo has thousands of games that can be played on many different devices, not on variations of the same one...
I have 100+ WinMo games on my Xperia, 70 java games, MorphGear with thousand of games (which lets me play every old console game out there) and a palm emulator. iPhail sucks big time in general, but it sucks even more when it comes to gaming.
Three years behind? HAHAHAHAHAAH!!! The iCrap is a decade behind...
Steve Job$ can GTFO with his "iPod Touch is the gretest portable gaming machine" - oh yeah? Have you heard of the PSP n00b... lmao. "Ohhhh looky looky we got copy, paste and CUT on the iPhone" - WOW can you imagine that? They have "cut" on their phones in 2009! Pathetic, overhyped devices with outdated hardware and software...

Windows Mobile does have some fantastic games, but the developers really don't give the damn about graphics. I'm far from an Apple fanboy - quite the opposite - but I do find it sad that while WinMos are capable of graphics as smooth as the iPhone's games (Binoteq / Astraware's MLT shows this), nearly every developer out there does not utilize the full potential of WinMo.
And many of the "official ports" to WinMo also have poor graphics - I prefer Arlanthir's "Touch The Music" to the official "Guitar Hero" game.
games
Check here there some fun game demos and games
www.krenisiswinmobilegamesapps.com
I used to own a HTC Touch HD2 a PSP and a DSlite....sold the lot and bought an Iphone 3gs, the games are in my opinion better than the PSP and DS, kind of a mix of the both, graphically not as good as the PSP, but better than the DS, controls not as good as the DS but better than the PSP, the accelerometer controls on the Iphone are the best on any device, my HTC just could not handle Need for speed, now I have the device that does it all, for me anyway.

cheap
Look most windows mobile users are alergic to buying games . You cant expect perfect smooth OpenGLS games for free. Windows mobile users think 99 cents is too much for a game. Most windows mobile users dont care about developers or what it takes to make games. They want perfection but dont want to pay a dime. Thats why iphone wins.

"Quality" is an entirely subjective word. Could mean anything. Could mean, "highest resolution images," or, "fastest animation." It could mean something I'm not even thinking about, to you.
The games mentioned here are all fun. None of them are "best quality." There's no definitive way to say one of them is, in my opinion...
For touchscreen games, I love ICBM (Missile Command via touchscreen). Also a big fan of Pocket Uno (huge time-waster).
There are some fun g-sensor toys, like the Lightsaber, the Magic 8 Ball, and the GClippers (my personal favorite prank of the moment). There's a Galaga-like game called GInvaders which is merely okay (again, my opinion only). YMMV.
FYI, here's a great collection of games in a gigantic single cab file. (19MB FTW)
Check HERE and HERE and you will find some really good ones. You can google and find a lot of free ones.
Are those games free? I didnt know there were more games for the phone other than the snes and sega roms. Im trying to find more proper games that are free. In aus you cant get these games since none of the networks have games that are compatiable for this phone.

Best game period. Great graphics, amazing 3d engine with no lag almost PSP quality 3d, very very responsive gsensor controls, more than just 1 or 2 levels.
I really enjoyed cops and robbers too but it was just too short, I was so disappointed when I realized after finding all the diamonds there wasn't another quest/level set.
But those two for games that a console person would like.
Other than that ya Resco bubbles, and Resco Brain Games are also on my Fuze.
But man get NFS Undercover, amazing. I had my iphone fanboy friends mouth watering playing that. Though I believe they have similar games the resolution on the fuze really makes it look amazing.

Psx4droid

So I got the psx emulator even though the slide probably isn't the best device to be running the app on. Tried a few of my fave games and the larger roms (like GT2) are slightly laggier then the smaller ones (like Spyro 2). This is probably normal due to size.
I know this is the first release so its not a well pollished app but how much better do you folks think its going to get for us slide users? And is this the same experience the rest of you are having?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
took the app from 4shared.com amd game won't load. buying it tommorow tho, but it shouldnt run horrid thinking it might run smooth actually, not a fan of how you have to get the roms but hey it ps1 on the go right?
Update: Looks like my Bios was the issue, but works fine now. Games are pretty laggy tried overclocking but not sure it worked out to well, need to try something else. only tried spyro playable but not normal game play like you'd want. Wish we had hummingbird in this! *drools over keyboard* If FF7-9 work good enough for me then. but maybe in the future once its more polished it could become better but playing fighter games or very actiony games maybe not "amazing". Price you must pay for owning a mid-range device.
the games are wayyyy too laggy for slide imho. i just stick with the good ol snes emulator.
I think its the emulator that needs some work because I have heard it runs crappy on the Evo too, but for a work in progress you have to admit that its pretty impressive to be able to load a PSX game onto your phone. I have tried a bunch of different ROMs and so far the only one that is playable is Resident Evil Directors Cut.
I just downloaded this, but I'm enjoying it. It's laggy, but I think the fact that it's even possible is amazing.
I've been watching the psx4droid wiki(can't post a link yet) and another forum. Just checking out to see people's experiences with certain games. I think most of the people that are sharing on the wiki have a bit more mhz than us, but it kind of gives me an idea which games will be ok to run.
I've got FF7 right now and it's definitely laggy, but playable. Sound a bit on the staticy side. Downloading Breath of Fire III, Xenogears and Resident Evil 2.
I'm reading the Resident Evils should be better since a lot of the graphics are pre-rendered and mainly the characters and npcs are 3D.
Running stock, btw. Holding out for 2.2 before determine if I'm going to root.
Also, Hello!

Unfortunately RE2 runs too slow but RE Directors Cut runs well enough to play and the sound isnt terrible. So far thats the best I can find, well Tetris Plus runs fine but there are better Tetris games you can play in the market.

Ah crud. Well I'll probably be trying more things to see what is great. I wasn't really too excited about RE2 anyways. I never really had a PSX, so I didn't play a lot of these games. Of course I could just do it on the PC now, but... well, I do enjoy the slide.
About halfway through disk one of Final Fantasy 7. The game runs perfect on Fenix 1.8 OCed to 844mhz. Zero lag. The only issue is the sound but I usually play it in public places anyway so it's not a deal breaker for me. Even bust out the WiiRemote for a controller sometimes at home
