Hi there,
I've tried for the last few days to have working MSN (Windows live Messenger) and Gmail clients on my Diamond.
After investigations, the problem I have with this is due to the fact that my provider (France - SFR) does not allow msn protocol, as well as pop/imap. As a matter of fact, only HTTP and HTTPS are allowed.
The only way to get these working is to use web-based (HTTP 80) clients.
I've tried ebuddy and some others for msn, as well as the official gmail java client. Both are working, but fonts are very small, since both are designed for QVGA screens.
So here is my question: do you know msn/gmail WEB-based clients with VGA interface for WM ?
Thanks a lot !
For GMail you can just point your browser to http://m.google.com/mail.
I would seriously consider switching to another provider though... Only http? They are living on which planet?
hello
for gmail, opera 9.5 on the diamond is working perfectly, you don't even need to use the mobile version ... (igoogle is also working great by the way)
you can also use the mail2web solution.
I'm in france and with sfr too, I'm transferring all my emai from gmail to my mail2web account, then I use activesync to synchronise with the exchange server of mail2web (which is http...)
I then have all my gmail in outlook (in the touchflo3D interface) it's working great (can even work as push if you setup activesync in always connected... but the battery won't last long)
for msn, web messenger should work great... or we just wait that sfr release the sfr messenger for the diamond...

Yawn... search, search, search... I've explained the solution to this problem at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2426977&postcount=24 :
in a nutshell: double the values of HKCU\Software\JBlend\AMS_Font_Size, VM_Font_Size0, VM_Font_Size1, and VM_Font_Size2
Thanks.
@ Menneisyy: I searched a lot before posting, and my question was not about java-based apps only.
@ Andrax: Thanks for the tip, it's quite cool with mail2web. You can't answer with your genuine mail address, though... Don't understand why SFR blocks imap and pop. I tried messenger by sfr (qvga java version): does not seem to work with JBlend, did you try it?
the java machine installed on the diamond is not jblend... so what menneisvy is saying is not working as such...
maybe in his original post he explain which jblend java machine to install ...
let's search search search
You can go in the parameters of the gmail client to use a bigger font. It's still not that big, but it helps.
But since it is not designed for VGA and touchscreen, it is not that better than the classic online gmail app (what really bugs me is the first warning about the VM thinking the gmail app is not secure, and still the VM to request confirmation to use data connection, and no way (as far as I know) to tell it it's good once for all).

LOL - wouldn't know, I've been on Orange for a lifetime...
hello hantoucc
The gmail java app uses HTTP and HTTPS connectors. So it should work perfectly with SFR restriction.
Cheers

"palringo" maybe for msn messenger?
Palringo works indeed quite fine...
What do you use for a server? You have to have the account to configure it as well.

It´s working good here
my fault i had adblock enabled and nothing was showing up.
If anyone is interested in this still, I run a Exchange 2010 server and I could let you see how it works.
You must have outlook 2010 though
Yes!
Let us know about it
Has anyone gotten the premium services on the new myphone to work. i tried the ring function but, it seems to work cause my phone lights up to signal sumthin is about to come in but the phone never rings. The map feature just doesn't work @ all, it never seems to be able to locate the phone..anyone else tried using this features???
http://sn1-p1.myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Help.po?url=e536c44e-45e4-4347-a2a4-5ddbe50ce63e.htm
it looks like you can only get a location at the exact moment with the premium service otherwise its the location where u last synced which seems useless
Guys please clearify this for me:
Is the content from MyPhone available to apply/download to any other, new device I sync with that?
Let's say I buy X2 and sync with MyPhone: will I be able to get all of my contacts calendar sms etc. from the cloud to a new device?!

Yes. That is how I have been using the program. You'd be able to have the exact same messages/contacts and such between both phones as you sync through the same account.

Ok so that makes sense......
Well amazingly someone managed to get me somethign I knew nothing about! An HD7!! Quite a shock compared to my beloved HD2 but I am loving it mostly.
I wish MS had bothered to provide a few things though:
Proper MSN client
Sync with outlook calendar ( I understand the mail but the calendar sync loss is mad!)
GPRS/3G switch (without dabbling in service menus)
A PROPER GPS program (if T-Mobile Germany can do it why not MS!!??)
The only game I miss is Angry Birds - but I am sure that will come along soon. Plus let's hope WhatsApp comes to WP7 very soon too!

No background processing at present - it restarts every time you leave it - plus with Palringo for example you can have MSN/Yahoo/GMAIL etc all in one place.
It does sync with calendar - just install Microsoft Hotmail connector for Outlook and your emails, calendar and contacts will sync over the cloud to your phone
Not quite - you have to copy your outlook calendar and then copy it to your connected hotmail account - a lot of faffing about - previously I could connect to my DESKTOP version of outlook so I could sync with outlook at work, at home AND hotmail if i wanted - now no local copy is possible!
Eh? Why?
GPRS woudl save a lot of battery when you dont need fast internet.
My understanding is that Bing Maps turn-by-turn SatNav will be in the update coming shortly.
Great news but I understood that doesnt work properly in anywhere but US?

Is there a way to have the Google calendar as a live tile? Would be convenient.

Mine comes through my calendar I had to make sure that it was going to my device from the m.google.com/sync that shows you devices setup for sync. And make sure in your phone's calendar you select your google account. I know you may have tried just suggestion.
is not possible (not anymore). u cannot even connect google calendar in Windows 8.

You can, however, not connect to EAS Services now already. If you add a new google account in windows phone it will use imap.

No, you can still connect EAS. I have it connected on Lumia 920 and 2 days on reinstalled HTC Titan.
Select Exchange account and add your Gmail account and password, server name is m.google.com, instructions are from old WM but still it works on WP 7 and 8

That was not the question. The question is how can I make the Google calendar as a Live Tile?
You have the regular Calendar tile. If you want more Information you will have to rely on third Party Apps like WeekView 7 that do allow for customized Calendar Live Tiles displaying a lot of Information in different ways.
