no because boost and virgin dont use the samn signal
The G1 radio is hard coded to run off of the signals that TMO uses, so it WILL work on other carriers, but you wont have 3G access.
Secondly, TMO fixed the SK loophole a long time ago. Your best bet would be to upgrade to the G1 prepaid plan and you'll have full functionality. IIRC, it's only 5 bucks more.
I am using the sidekick prepaid plan right now, and I can only browse the internet with opera mini right now and are you sure we can just get the g1 prepaid plan for an extra 5 dollars a month because i would do that in a heartbeat. I think in order to get the g1 data plan you need a voice plan too, correct me if I am wrong.

There is not a G1 prepaid plan, You need a regular or Flexpay account to correctly use a G1 and to add G1 services to any account.
so if i use a flexpay, do i need to add a voiceplan on it? if i do then I'm just gonig to continue using my sk plan

I have an iphone on t-mobile and I am using the unlimited web for phones and unlimited texting plan for $19.99. using internet2.voicestream.com apn it lets me have data and it works great on iphone.
I am wondering if the same thing can be done on the G1? i might be getting a cheap G1 for fun from a friend and I dont wanna switch data plans. What are my options? thank you
unfortunatly, no. I switched from unlocked iphone on tmobile with 9.99 unlimited web data (internet2.voicestream.com) to a mytouch 3g for 3g speeds. However mytouch refused to accept my 9.99 data plan. at first the data worked perfectly... for about 4 hours. after that it started redirecting me to tmobiles upsell page, saying that my current data plan is not compatible with this phone. I tried to change APNs, fake user, and more but it didnt work.
the mytouch 3g data plan is 30$ if you get it from the website. however I called customer support trying to get them to get my 9.99 data plan to work for the mytouch. the refused but they did give me the mytouch data plan for 25$ (5$ off regular price).
If you do decide to go to mytouch data plan I suggest you call tmobile customer support and play dumb asking why the 9.99 data plan is not working on your android phone. After some tests they will redirect you to tech support which can give you the 25$ plan.
its worth it though. 3G speeds are amazing. Im getting around 120KB/s in NYC on 3G, as opposed to 9-10KB/s I had on EDGE.
Maybe because you have mytouch. Maybe it would work for g1? People on other forums talk about it working for g1... I'm sure there's a Hack like there is for iPhone back with the t zones hack
sorry, but no. The only reason a 10$ data plan works on the iphone is because T-Mobile does not carry the iPhone, and therefore does not have special rules set up for it. If you use an iPhone on T-Mobile's network, they see it as a regular phone.
Phones like the G1 and mytouch are both T-Mobile. They have special restrictions set up on them, most likely based on the IMEI # or something of that level.
Damn. I guess those people who had it only had it until t mobile caught on. Well i would be swithing back and forth from g1 to iPhone and so I can't get android plan because iPhone wouldn't work. Is the g1 worth it without data plan? I have wifi at home and at school so it's ok.. Would I still get mail notification etc and so forth? Facebook widgets...
iphone will still work with the android plan most likely. you would just need to change iphone's APN to epc.tmobile.com.
to be honest if you dont have data for g1 it makes it kind of pointless, since you already have an iPhone.
Oh so it's because it's TMO branded.. What of I get like an htc hero which is not tmi branded.. Would my webconnect work?
I'm thinking about buying a used htc tilt on ebay and using it with att, but can I keep my 15 dollar "dumbphone" data plan or do I need to upgrade my plan to the 30 dollar "smartphone" plan? I checked on wireless.att.com and theres not mention of the tilt needing the more expensive-r plan. Any experience from current users would be really useful though.

If you sign up for a data plan it will have to be the 30 dollar smartphone plan. There is no way around it.
Not sure about the 8925. I got by with it with my 8525 though with no issues though. Tried the trick with the 8925 and tmobile stopped it saying my phone wasn't compatible with thier data plan. So naturally I upgrade to the $30 a month data plan and turns out Tmobile 3g is the worst in the world. Litterally. You can only use a tmobile branded phone on their 3G. So I'm going back to Atnt in a couple weeks. I'll let you know if it works. I'm gonna hook it up as a razr then switch out the sims.

I am still on MediaMax plan from back in the day. It is a plan they no longer offer that is unlimited data (on the wap network) and 200 Text messages.
Only $20.00 per month. I got grandfathered in before all this new Data Plan nonsense came into play.
Just don't connect to [email protected]
No one at ATT ever told me I had to change it, (I didn't really ask either) and I have spoken with them several times about other phones on my account.
Here we go on the data plan merry go round
Here comes your $15 data plan
http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...lan-prices-ends-unlimited-offer-update3-.html
Hello,
I have a problem to solve, here is the situation:
next week i will go to the usa for about a month. i have an unlocked nexus one and need some data plan to connect and to use voip to call family/friends. do you know if t-mobile data plans (i want to use 3g and i think that n1 works only with t-mobile) will work with voip, or is it blocked completely?
budget: $50/month with no termination fee...
thx for all the help.
There are two versions for different radio bands, one for t-mo one for att. I don't think either provides prepaid data cards.
As evilkorn pointed out, you do need to figure out what radio bands your nexus uses.
Tmobile Radio-
If it's tmobile, then it will be fairly simple to do, but it will cost you $60 a month, with no contract. Tmobile offers two kinds of plans, one with contract, and one without. The one with no contract is called "Even more Plus". For $60 you get 500 minutes, unlimited text and 5GB of data. Here's the link: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/cell-phone-plans-detail.aspx?tp=tb1&rateplan=Even-More-Plus-500-Talk-Text-Web
AT&T Radio-
If it's AT&T, it will be tricky. You'll have to get an Ipad plan, which is $30 a month for 2GB and no contract. You then change the APN settings on your nexus to match an Ipad. Here's a link to do that: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=177297ea7cd4781c&hl=en
But to get an Ipad plan, is very tricky. You'll have to use the method suggested here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=928196
Since you aren't from the USA you'll have to go to an AT&T store to buy a SIM, instead of ordering it like they suggest.
Hope this helped and good luck!
thx for answers!
i have got tmobile freq nexus one (so it works here in europe)
shouldnt the data only plan be sufficient? tmobile's Even More Plus Smartphone Unlimited Web & E-mail or Even More Plus webConnect® Overage Free Plan? or i need to have plans with talk minutes which i dont need at all...
It appears you could use one of those (I'm on At&t and not to familiar tmobile plans), but I didn't even think about there being an activation fee. So even with the $39.99 data only plan, you would still have an additional $35 activation fee.
You could try calling tmobile and tell them your only going to be there for a month, and if your lucky they might wave the activation fee. After signing up over the phone (because there is pretty much zero chance they would do this in a store) you could then go pick up a sim in there store.
Let us know how it works out!
T-Mobile has a $40 data only plan as well.
Hi,
I was going to get HD2, to use with our T-Mobile $5.99 unlimit data plan.
During research found HD7 and wondering if I can use Hd7 with that plan.
thanks

No. You will be forced to upgrade to the $30 data plan with either the HD7 or the HD7
If you buy the phone cash with no upgrade or anything you can use the 5.99 unlimited plan with no problems.

Highly doubt it as they (T-Mobile) can tell what device you have by the IMEI # if it's a T-Mobile device, which you need to get their 3G Hardware.

You can buy the phone from anybody but t-mobile and use it on T-mobile's network.
My wife has the old t-zones plan and is using the phone currently with NO issues at all.
T-mobile never cares about your data plan as long as you're not signing a contract with them for THAT phone. You can use ANY phone you want on t-mobile as long as the phone will take the sim card. So yes, the 5.99 plan will work with a HD7 bought outside of t-mobile.
Hello,
I recently purchased an unlocked international version GNote GT-N7000.
I went to the ATT local store and told them that I wanted to buy a gophone simcard. They asked me if I had a phone with me, I said no and the simcard is for my friend so I don't know which phone my friend's gonna use.
I got $50 unlimited call, text, data plan, and the rep activated the simcard for me.
After that, I put the simcard into my GNote.
Calls and texts work fine.
I've tried every APN settings on "[GUIDE] Getting your unlocked Note fully functional on AT&T (including MMS)" this thread.
Even the last one that should work for GoPhone plan doesn't work for me.
The Network Mode is set to "GSM/WCDMA".
When I choose "GSM only", some APN settings (about cingular one) worked for a moment with really slow speed (EDGE speed) and went back to not working.
If I left the mode to "GSM/WCDMA", I see 3G, H, H+, these signs and arrows going up and down, and mobile network shows it's connected, but if I open browser or market, none of them works (network error).
What did I do wrong? I can't find any answer from the above thread that I mentioned.
Can you reply your APN settings that work for your GoPhone plan here?
What if I change to different prepaid company, which one works best in SoCal like reception, data speed, and etc?
Anyone use Simple Mobile? cuz I know thay have $40 unlimited everything plan include 3G internet.
Thank you!!
Sorry, but I've never tried making use of GoPhone, so I can't offer assistance there.
Two issues with Simple Mobile.
Their $40 3G plan throttles data to just barely above 2G speeds.
Simple Mobile runs off of the T-Mobile network, which uses 3G/4G (UMTS/HSPA+) frequencies the International Note is currently incapable of using.
Long story short, International Note would be limited to Edge speeds on Simple Mobile. If you want a cheap unlimited plan, go to Straight Talk. If you can manage staying under 100MB of data a day, their $45 Unlimited plan would probably be the way to go. If you prefer 2GB of data per month that you're free to use any way you like, Jolt Mobile offers such a plan for $60/month.
I use Straight Talk on my International Note and the settings in the "How to use your International Note on Straight Talk" settings work for me off the bat: voice, data, sms, and mms. It's $45/month and it runs on AT&T's network. Maybe you could try the APN settings for Straight Talk on your GoPhone plan and see if it works.
If you want to try Straight Talk, you can order a SIM from their website for $15.
at t knows that your using a smartphone.so you need to add a data package to your go phone Sim account
I had the same trouble. The unlimited data us only for their approved phones. And iPhones you cannot even add a data package to their go phone accounts. Att is pure evil

Noooo it doesn't work for my GoPhone plan =[
So, Straight Talk uses ATT's network? Then I maybe go for Straigh Talk.. I was worried about the coverage because in the website, the map doesn't clearly show the coverage.
Thank you!

wow... so they know. =[
I don't understand then why they would call the $50 plan as unlimited call, text and data if they are gonna charge extra $$ for smartphone data.
hmmmmm 250 minutes for $25 plan sound little short for me.
maybe I should go for Straight Talk then.
if you do decide to go with Straight Talk, when ordering a sim card from their site, make sure to order the AT&T compatible sim, and you will be set. I just got my N7000 Note Friday and hooked it up with Straight Talk no problem. Speeds are very decent. Good luck.
How's us the data speed for straight talk
Does it work for international unlocked iPhones too

Straight talk is the best option for unlocked gsm phone. I'm using it on my unlocked Note and iPhone
Data speed is very good. $45 is a great deal for unlimited everything
