Sound disappears when using headphones and a notification arrives - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Ive searched all over the internet (and these forums) for an answer. I dont know if anyone has had a similar problem, or even better, a solution.
Ive had this problem since I was on an unmodded G1 using 1.5 Cupcake, then I rooted and have been using cyanogen roms since then, and the problem is still present. I am currently using CyanogenMod v4.1.11.1.
Whenever I recieve a notification as music is playing through headphones using the T-Mobile 3.5mm Adapter, The sound totally mutes, and doesnt come back whenever I get a phone call or a text message or if i continue playing music. (I use the default music player).
The only way to restore the sound is to reboot the phone, but if another notification arrives while headphones are plugged in (even when music isnt playing) the problem strikes again.
Any suggestions on how to solve this? Ive tried using programs like Volume Control and still havent been able to solve it... Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

either try reflashing your radio, or i remember a long time ago, i think i heard about an app called ongoing music adapter that would help.

Thanks, but the app didnt work.
Im gonna try to flash the latest radio off the HTC website, (unless theres some modified radio someone can recommend?) but idk if thatll solve this problem because its been happening since before I rooted or modded my g1.

I tried reflashing the latest radio and still no help. Ive tried every possible app i could think of. I cant figure out why this is happening and its been driving me crazy! Anyone have anymore suggestions please?

maybe it is a ram issue and the phone.apk is causing it to kill your other apps which possibley are not reloading
i don't really know i am taking a random guess but who knows

well I have plenty of memory free on the internal phone storage: 44.78MB and 798MB free on my second partition on the SD card and 1.08GB on the primary.
Idk if im the only person whose has this issue before, because I cant find this scenario repeated anywhere online. Its been like this for as long as i can remember. Whenever headphones are plugged in and music or video is playing and I get a text, email, or notification of any sort (even in silent mode) all the sound disappears till i reboot the phone...i cant figure out the problem. Ive gone from the official Cupcake to all of CM Roms up to 4.1.11.1. Same issue
I flashed the latest radio today and I tried downloading an app called Loud Volume Hack and that didnt help either...any more suggestions? thanks for trying gridlock! i appreciate it!

your ram has nothing whatsoever to do with your memory card size or how much space you have
set yourself up a linux-swap partition

LOL omg that is hilarious
and @op
just disable sound notifications while listing to music
also, does this only happen with the 3.5mm adaptor or does it happen with the usb headphones as well

lol epic fail on my part. now that my n00bishness is exposed let me ask another n00bish question, is a linux swap different than apps2sd? because cyans roms already has apps2sd built in. My memory card has a FAT32 and ext2 partition but Ive read that swap is a 3rd partition? would i have to format my memory card to do this?
disabling sound notifications doesnt work it still happens regardless
and i never tried using usb headphones, im gonna try that, i only used the adapter.
btw sorry for the late reply, ive been busy and my desktop was messed up for a while.

I know this has been addressed before about the home button going crazy. It acts like it is getting pushed multiple times over and over. It mainly does this at random times and mostly when the phone has come out of sleep mode. Being that this is my 4th Cappy that I might be returning due to hardware issues. I am hesitant on returning because I am worried about getting a refurb with more serious issues. Every Captivate I seem to get has hardware issues.
I am wanting to put together a thread to figure out if this issue is due to changes in Kernel or if it is a true hardware issue that can not be fixed but maybe we can find a workaround.
I want to start finding out if there is a thresh-hold that can be adjusted on the button. Make the button not so sensitive to see if this effect will help anything.
Can this button be disabled altogether? Disable the home button and use the search button instead.
I never had this issue till I flashed a Froyo kernel. That is why I am skeptical on the hardware failure.
I think it's hardware issue, my first one has this issue, unroot and runs stock 2.1, exchanged and never see it goes crazy again.
Same problem here trying to find a fix, driving me crazy!!!
I just got my phone exchanged about 2 hrs ago. I've run TONS of tests on it, different ROM's, kernels, modems, bare ass stock.
Here's what I came up with. My phone was a 1007 series(2nd I believe)
The best, cleanest luck I had with it was for 1 solid week running Assonance 2.0 with Set's 1.4.3 1200 kernel, and JK3. BUT, I had to go back to stock, and it STILL did it, then with Axura 2, 2.1 and 2.2; still did it. Finally went back to stock JF6 no root, nothing sideloaded, and it still did it. I went into my local service center this afternoon actually for a different reason, my headphone jack stopped working totally. The techs had seen the button pressing before, and they are pretty sure it's a firmware issue.
I'd recommend going to your local service center and get a new device. I suspect that it will only get worse
Ive reflashed Axura about three times now. uninstalling apps (doing tibu restore every time) and the home button was still crazy, this last round did the usual odin3 back to stock, flashed axura, setiron kernal, and the jl3 modem but didnt tibu restore and everything is fine no more crazy home button still dont know what app was the problem but my phone is fixed... only bad part is manual app restore from market
I think I narrowed it down to sgstools had to reflash again after installing market fix and camera hack

Help Note Freezes, Hangs, Unmounts Sd card

Hello
i have been having in the last few months many issues with my Galaxy note - which was running the official GB and then official ICS
the phone would freeze for a short while (5 or more seconds )- does not responed when buttons are pressed in this freeze position
would suddendly from that position go into the lock screen and sometimes just restart over and over a good few times
Notification would pop up at random - saying the External SD card is safe to remove
it could last like this for a good long while (upto an hour or more sometimes )- doing it over and over again
Even when i rebooted and pulled the battery - still happens
it would do this randomally - could be couple times a day - or couple times per week -
in the end i had enough and yesterday i rooted my phone with the speedmod kernal
that was ok the root and i did a clean wipe of internal SD and re-intalled everything back onto the phone today
and again now its happening all over again
freezes / hangs / safe to unmount external SD card
RIght now - its stopped for a while - but overall phone seems pretty unstable
When i first got the phone -running official GB it seemed ok
and then more and more apps came along and i think it slowly started to happen
its happened with both GB touchwiz towards the later part before i updated to ICS stock with Apex
my phone is sadly not working as it should
would really appreciate advise

Remove sd card for a day and see if performance improves. If so, stick your sd card into pc and chkdsk it, sounds like it might be failing.

thanks for your reply
as i also wanted to check the external SD card - i did the chkdsk and no problems were found
thinking that it could be the card itself i found the link below and have now re-formatted it
http://www.simonjstuart.com/2012/07/06/format-a-64gb-microsdxc-card-for-android-using-your-pc/
says to make sure its formatted with 32kb clusters -
so i am now putting all the data back on and will see how it goes
if anyone else has any other suggestion please let me know
thanks
i have the same problem you have
i did every thing i could but no use
and iam still looking for an answer
what happend to you did you find any thing ?

so i have tried another external SD card in the note
and pretty similar things happened all over again
which makes me to now believe that its an issue with the note itself
its happened to me using official stock GB and ICS and also rooted version
2 different SD cards tested - 64gb and 32GB
i am now reverting back my devise to stock kernal and reset the binary
then off it goes to the repair :crying:
I had a similar problem, but without the SD card issues. It would freeze/hang for varying amounts of time. Sometime just a few seconds, sometime more. I got a app monitor widget and whenever it would hang up, I tried to check the monitor. Screenshots below...i hope.
AT & T replaced the phone last week, and no similar problems thus far.

water resistance message

The water resistance warning message keep coming up when I turn the phone on, I thought wiping the smart connect cache had solved it as someone said it was related, but its just made it slightly less regular if it did do anything (it will now happen around every other time I turn the phone on ) Is this a known glitch, and how do I solve it? Im using latest stock rom.
I know I could try telling selecting the option to never do it again but I want the warning to stay and I know its possible because I had the same stock rom only a couple of weeks ago and it worked perfectly - I dont understand why its suddenly acting up. Ive reset the phone twice, and repaired the phone 3 times (and deleted the folder with the files in each time to make sure it downloaded a new rom).
There also seems to be some problem with the initial NFC update screen as its taken me several reboots to get rid of that everytime.
Thanks

That's not a GLITCH or BUG. And yes it's smart connect app related

Weird crash issue....

Okay, since I've got the phone, it's been working without a problem.
Until yesterday...........
First off, I tried making a picture of a 'small' spider I saw in my living room:
I wanted to try night scene mode, but for some reason I couldn't change the scenes, the 3 dots to select a specific scene was grayed out for some reason.
First I thought that I might have disabled an ap or something that prevented me from using manual mode, so I enabled some things that I previously disabled . it didn't work.
So the next thing i did was clear the data from the camera ap and extensions. That didn't work either. (After each step I restarted my phone, just to make sure that the changes were applied)
I tried using background de-focus, just to see what it would do, after making a picture though the camera kept showing the saving animation and it never stopped, pictures I made after that weren't saved at all...
A few minutes later I could suddenly access manual mode and all the scenes again, taking (or saving) pictures was still laggy/not working tho.
I ignored the issue....
I also use the phone as my alarm, to wake up early from work....
But guess WHAT! This morning my alarm didn't went off and I overslept and my battery suddenly had 50% remaining, when I went to bed 6h earlier, it was on 93%. My clock ap crashed and that's the reason why my alarm didn't went off.
I rebooted the phone and tried accessing my alarms again, but I couldn't get to my alarms, since my clock ap kept crashing....
I had no time to look at the issue, since I barely had time to prepare for work, normally I drove to work with some music from my phone, but even Walkman refused to play anything........
I decided to do a factory reset, since I wouldn't lose a lot of stuff, but used ultra stamina mode to preserve some of the battery while I was at work, since my battery was still depleting really fast! When I switched back from Ultra Stamina to normal mode, the issue seemed to be fixed, so i did no factory reset in the end.
This issue is really weird, but the weirder thing is that THE SAME EXACT THING! Happened on my Xperia Z after a year or something (Only on a stock Rom though)
Is there anyone that even read my entire story (that i just typed) And is there anyone that had the same issue as me? Because it's really annoying me!!
Here are some screenshots:
Some help would be very appreciated!
(CPU Z Showed Processor 3 almost on a constant 2.2GHz)
3 or 4 days ago I had similar issue with my z3c, same with my sg2 year ago. with sg2 problem was with broken audio file (.mp3) on my card that makes device to constantly scan my sd card and not to sleep so that time I checked all my music with audiotester app, found some broken ones and repair them with MP3diags. Issue was solved and never happened again. hope that will help

Could you please link to the two aps/programs?
It's worth a try. I wonder how long it would take with me 10k songs.

Assuming you have the songs on a microSD, wouldn't it be easier to remove just that and give it a try?

What do you mean? It's not a daily problem, so I don't know how I could test that. After yesterday the problem didn't came back. On my Xperia Z I changed rom and the problem was gone.

So I rebooted the phone and suddenly it started acting up again. I did what you advised and it did seem to get rid of the problem. :good:
Now I need to wait for @damned91 to link the programs and see if it will help.
MP3 diags
Audiotester is standalone exe file program, just open it and drag&drop music folders there. won`t take much time
First of all use Audiotester because it works MUCH faster, then MP3 diags to repair.

I'm down to about 100 broken files now, all of them with sync problems, try to re-download those.
Many of these files I've had since 2006 if not earlier.

Hahaha you could say that again! It wasn't that bad tho. I had to re-download about 100-150 files, the rest I was able to fix with MP3 diags.
Now I hope that the problem will be solved. :good::good:

[ASK] Random Reboot problem

Hy guys, i want to ask. But first I want to let you know that this is not my phone, I use this phone only temporarily, but I am here and asking because there is something that makes me (sometimes) feel very very upset and frustrated.
This is my brother's phone, and he also asked me to help him in fixing the problem I was about to ask...
The problem is: Automatic freezes and reboots
That simple isn't it? But the impact is big, during that phase I can only use this phone for only a few minutes because my phone keeps freezes and auto reboots, basically during that phase, I can't do anything, all I can do is wait until it returns to normal or turn off my phone for a few minutes which is obviously quite long, more than 10 minutes going like that (freezes and auto reboots). Version number 52.1.A xxxxx (I forgot, there are clearly 3 numbers at the end), I tried to downgrade to version number 52.1.A.3.92 but it didn't change anything.

oh yeah, the trigger is a change in everything related to connectivity (WiFi, bluetooth, gps, sim card, etc), even when activating auto-rotate. Hard reset, flashing, downgrade, reset connectivity, nothing helps. Can anyone provide a solution? can downgrading the android version or using a custom rom help? is this just a software bug or a hardware problem?
thank you

Who can help fix?
hey i have had this problem for months now. Recently I flashed to a custom version (originally on SOV39) and i rooted my device and the problem still persisted. However, I found a temporary fix without messing with the hardware.
By disabling the sensors and then rebooting. It stopped randomly restarting and I can even use the device with airplane mode turned off while having all the internet functions working.
You can find it on Developer Settings - Quick Settings Developer Tiles - Sensors Off. From there you can just toggle it off on the Quickbar menu and reboot the device. Hopefully it works for you too!
I have same reboot problem, only restarts after a min in normal mode. Works fine in flight and safe mode
I took a notice it can be the cell radio as it is off in plane mode.
I find side sense and one hand mode. Is it the things to turn off? I have the same problem, works fine in flight or safe mode. Some wrote it could be the cell radio.
I have checked for the updated version of Android System Webview as another wrote in another thread it could be that by going to Apps and Storage - Play Store. But it is not on my phone so that can't be the problem for me. I have turned off 2 sensors, side and one hand mode but it restarts after a halv min in normal mode.

I tried the same solution (update system webview) and didn´t work for me, I´m currently performing a software repair to see if it helps, the thing is that my phone doesn´t reboot as often but still it´s upseting me.
I was able to partially solve my problem with my phone, I took out the black antenna frame and very carefully placed transparent scotch tape (because it´s thinner than medical tape) in all the contacts that are marked in red in the atached picture but now I´m thinking that I shouls have placed tape also on the places marked with green.
So what change I experienced on my phone with this method?
well the phone now has Network and wifi signal all the time and very ocassionaly it does lose the network and wifi signal for a second but when this happen the phone does not say that there is no sim card and does not freeze and restart, it just recovers signal by itself and I can continue using the phone.
