Hi there to everybody. i have a Tmobile G1 :
Installed Htc Hero Sense, Firmware version is 1.5. I have 1gb micro sd card on it when i root the phone. now i am replacing it with 8gb micro sd card.
every time i put the 8gb sd card on it, the phone keeps freezing and will not continue to boot up. i then returned the 1 gb sd card and the phone is working properly. how can i change the sd card to a bigger capacity without the phone freezing? do i have to re-root and restart the whole process on the phone? any help, guides will help. Thank you in advance.
......umm...lol..imma leave this one alone
just copy the content of the old sdcard, some Hero rom store some info there
it wont hurt to try it
also, did you have any partitions on the old sd?
partition your sd card and flash a 1.6 rom with auto a2sd
I did try to copy the whole contents of the sd card, but it does same thing, freezing and it wont boot up.
using 1 gb flash the Amon RA recovery image....and then do a Bart Backup...this backup will backup all your apps and also the rom..then put that backup file and put into the new sd card...and then go into recovery and do a bart restore....

Um...partly true but you don't need to install a 1.6 donut ROM
TO OP
You have to repartition your SD card (~7400 MB Fat32, 512 EXT3, 96-128 Swap?) whichever you want.
If you want to reinstall all your paid/free apps, then you will have to back them up on your 1 GB card using a backup app (App manager, astro) or just use Mybackuppro if you want to back up everything (contacts, data, etc)
transfer the backupped files back onto your newly partitioned 8 GB card. Boot up the phone with the new card in it, and reinstall all your apps
OR the easier way (but you lose all your data)
Partition card
wipe phone/dalvik/ etc
fresh Reinstall
The old sd card appeared to be partioned.
you need to make sure your swap and ext. partition is the same size as the one you have on your old one. ex. if your 1gb have 96swap, 512ext. then your new one should have the same swap and ext size. rest goes to fat32. First thing you should do is do a nan + ext. backup using the recovery image. Then copy everything from the old SD card to the new SD card. Then do a nan restore. That should restore everything on your phone plus whatever is stored in the ext. partition. The likely cause of your phone freezing is because the stuff in the ext. partition is not there anymore.

what he said
when i got my mytouch coming from a g 1i simply did what the guy did above me and with amon_ra's recovery its very simply
The Unlockr.com has a tutorial thats very helpfull if you need a visual. I was a nubie once and visuals always helped.
So. I have Froyo, and Amon-ra 1.7.0
Downloaded NFS Shift (despite knowing it has problems with snapdragon)
and decided to install it. I don't use a lot of apps, but 100mb is more than I have.
So I decided to do apps 2 sd. First things first, partition the sd card.
Booted into recovery, partitioned sd card (1 gig to ext3, remainder to fat32)
And rebooted the phone. And now...pretty much everything on my sdcard is gone?
Was that supposed to happen? It's not that devestating, but I did have some stuff
on there that I would like to get back...
Gah.
This is normal when you repartition disk. Partition table was overwritten by new table you create in recovery.
Theoretically if you don't write any data on sdcard after the loss, you can plug the card to computer and recovery your old partition table and try to recovery files but if you write something, you can't do nothing.
But you can try it, google for "fat32 recovery" ..
Partitioning SD card erases everything that was on it.
Yup, that's normal. Partitioning anything in that way will wipe it all.
Alright, this is what I get for not researching I guess. And I haven't added anything to it, so I will try to recover later. Thanks guys. Just curious.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Hey guys I Just got a new 16GB sd card and partitioned it with Amons Recovery. I then transfered all the files from my old sd card to my new one. Now, when I boot my phone I get a infinite boot loop with a mini nexus logo ongoing. If I put my old one back in it works fine. I am running Rod Style Miui.
Any idea?
Be aware of your type of Ext partition (ext 2 or 3,4), maybe that could cause the problem?
Were you running an A2SD partition? If so, when you swapped out your SD, you swapped out your Data partition, thus SERIOUSLY confusing your system. I would swap in your original SD, Nandroid with Clockwork, then partition the new SD the same size or larger on the new SD (if you have not already), followed by copying the contents of the nandroid to that new SD to restore the External partition (advanced restore).
Should/may work.
sorry if I missed it, but did you format sd card before partitioning.
sdformatter from web is good, you can partition with it too
I am having boot issues. Here is what is up.
I wiped /system /data and delvcache[/U] then I flashed Phiremod v6.3. It flashed to emmc which is fine, that is were I want it, but the odd thing is that my nook now will not boot with my sdcard installed. BUT if I take out the sdcard and then boot it boots just fine, then I put my sdcard back in and I am fine, until next boot.
I know the nook looks at the sdcard first for boot, then goes to emmc, so I am assuming that there is some damaged boot file on the sdcard which I need to remove so it just boots from emmc. How can I do that without losing all the other stuff that is on the card ? Any idea what file to delete ?
Please any idea's ???

I'm new to the nook but you could copy all the files you need off the sd card to your computer and reformat the sd card then move the files back on.
Harpo has a point...why not just copy the contents of your card off the sd.
Format your card.
Mess with your nook and see if it works the way you like.
And then copy back the files you recognize from your PC back to the SD.
If I had to guess Id say you had some sort of Borked CWR image still on your SD. It tries to boot and hangs.
Hope this helps. Mostly because its opinion :-/
Happened to me on one of the early builds...had to format the SDCARD...then it worked great
[Q] Media Scanner causing phone to continually reboot?
A weird issue manifested on my phone today ... the phone started, upon boot up, to spontaneously reboot. It would boot up within 30s, at which point I unlock it an pulldown the notifications screen (to see what was going on).
I saw several instances of "media scanner running" occurring - over the course of various trials I would see the following messages alternate on the top status bar.
Media scanner running... (system storage)
Media scanner running... (SD card)
Media scanner running.... (USB storage)
Media scanning completed
...while below in the notification areas I'd see the "Media scanning", "Media scanning...USB storage" etc messages periodically appear.
The phone would first lockup, then reboot perhaps 3 out of every 4 startups. Several of those times the last message I saw prior to the lockup was Media scanner running.... (USB storage).
I pulled out the 32FB Sandisk SD card, then tried booting the phone several times, and this time no issue - booted up fine, no lockups nor auto-reboots. Note though that I've had the SD card installed for over a year, and the problem only cropped up today.
Same problem on Samsung Galaxy Ace
I'm experiencing the exactly same problem on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Ace (Gingerbread 2.3.6).
Reboots with SD card mounted and working fine with SD card unmounted.
I'm using Link2SD with a 2nd ext2 partition, and when SD card is unmounted, all Linked apps work perfectly fine.
I've tried removing and re-inserting SD card and also recreating mount scripts to no use.
What might be the possible causes of this problem???
I can't afford formatting the SD card as yet, as I'm a little short on disk space. I've tried mounting the card on my PC and run chkdsk, but found no errors.
Is this problem related to Link2SD???
Please :fingers-crossed: tell me if there's any other solution other than killing my phone i.e. wiping all data.
PLEASE HELP :silly:

I really find this odd. When you link an app using Link2SD, all the app data is linked to ext partition of your SD card. If all went along right, then once you unmount your SD card, all linked apps shouldn't work anymore. This is because the ext partition is no longer available which contains the app data and files. I don't know why all of your linked app works fine. I completely agree with @aditya rathee. The problem could be with your SD card. Try to restart the phone with another working SD card and post the result.

In case I format my SD card, what happens to my 2nd ext2 partition?? What are my options for back up??

When you format your SD card, only the data in SD card is formatted while data in the ext2 partition is still left behind. If you want to format your ext2 partition, you can do that too. To do that, goto CWM Recoverymod, choose "mounts and storage">format /sdcard (To format just SD card data) and/or format /sd-ext (To format ext partition data). Use Titanium Backup app to take backup of all the installed app data. This data is backed-up to your SD card, so make sure to copy it to other storage media before you format your SD card. Once you have finished the backup, format both SD card and SD-ext, then copy the backup data back to SD card, reinstall Titanium Backup and Link2SD, run Link2SD to link your ext partition, and finally run Titanium Backup to restore all the previously installed app with data and link the apps back with Link2SD. Hope I helped
@mahithm, I formatted my SD card, but the problem is still there. I've ascertained the problem is with my memory card. I scanned it with my anti-virus, check for any disk errors and ran a surface test with Hard disk sentinal. No problems were identified.
One thing's for sure, the apps on my second partition are working fine even the one's who's apk+dex+data are linked.
If I unmount my SD card, the phone worked an whole day without issues. As soon I mounted it, Media Scanner starts and the phone reboots.
My post on the Link2SD thread hasn't got any responses.
I can access all content from my PC (on my FAT32 partition i.e.)
Please Help!

Can you try again with an another working SD Card? If the problem still persists, I suggest you reinstall this rom. BTW what rom are you using now? Sometimes accidently deleting a system file could cause such errors. If the problem is with your Link2SD, then I suggest using CronMod script to increase your internal memory. All it needs is a rooted phone and an ext partition. Before flashing the script from the CWM recoverymod, don't forget to format your ext partition. Here is the link,
CronMod-INT2EXT
Do post your result. Hope I Helped

1. A blank SD card doesn't bootloop.
2. My current SD card when formatted and blank doesn't reboot automatically.
3. When I delete .android_secure folder from SD card, phone works fine.
4. I don't think I deliberately deleted any system files.
5. I haven't changed the ROM. It's the stock ROM of Galaxy Ace.
6. Is it possible that some .asec is interfering with some system file
7. I have ruled out Link2SD as the cause, even deleting the app didn't make a difference.
Fully, this helps you to help he out further.
Thanks!

Can you try reinstalling the stock rom? Don't forget to Wipe data/ fatcory reset, Wipe cache partitions, Mount and Storage> Format /system, Wipe Dalvik cache and Wipe battery stats from CWM Recoverymod before you flash stock rom through odin. Also format both SDcard and ext partition. Use Titanium Backup to take backup of all the application data. Don't install Link2SD and lets see if the problem still persists. Do post the result.
