I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!
Mike
Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S
Thanks!
People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?
Please help, I just got the kaiser today and want to install tomtom.
Thanks.

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.
anytime i start up a program that uses GPS (gps test, TomTom) it tries to bring up my GPRS connection and connect to isp.cingular.com. i dont know what i could of switched around to have it do this!?!
what rom are you using?
If it is a cooked rom then it is probable that advancedconfig is installed in the rom. Just go into advancedconfig under gps and disable assisted gps.
If you haven't changed your rom then you can either install advancedconfig or kaisertweak. You can find these two applications by using the search function in this forum.
your right.. thank you very much
Hi guys,
Whats the best GPS software IYO for walking with around cities etc?
Garmin XT for mobile!
Working well even you are on the boat!
I use the UK A-Z maps. Work really well with Diamond GPS. They are traditional top down perspective only, but I'm used to that - and I have London and GB maps.
What's wrong with google maps?
It's got GPS and you can gives directions, also it's freeeeeee
I use Memory Map which installs a version on the phone to use the GPS and view OS maps which are crystal clear with the screen resolution.

I take it back, it's pants!!!!!
I use TrekBuddy, which is a Java application that also works on normal mobile phones.
There are tools for making maps from various sources and you can either record the current location as a waypoint or display locations that you have prepared beforehand (e.g. free WiFi Hotspots).
OziExplorer.
I have a htc Kaiser and i want to know how many software out there that can speed up the gps? I tried quickGPS and SeaSGEE. Does anyone know anything else beside those 2 softwares? thank you
Try enabling the A-GPS option via AdvanceConfig or KaiserTweak (both available on forum for download).
You can play around with Franson's GPS Gate. Its very good software.
Cheers,
Chris
I installed gpstest, then run it, and then Google Maps and Live search are almost instantaneous.
Nice looking ROM , with many bug at this point. Just uninstalled from my X1. Igo 8 , Garmin and a few GPS related software not working with this relase.Contact screen freeze after sync with outlook from my pc.
The only one ROM from itje worked for me trouble free: Touch-IT_Xperience_v2.2
Anybody out there who have Igo 8 and this ROM working?
sorry double post - deleted
Using Garmin Mobile XT V5.00.20 and works perfect (Socal).
Couple of things to check:
1 - Advanced Config - enable 'Assisted GPS'
2 - update quick GPS
3 - Settings - 'External GPS' my settings are:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (None)
Baud rate: 4800 (i've seen others used 9600 as well, don't know the difference)
Manage GPS auto - checked
From what I know, GPS has a lot more to do with the radio than rom. I've tried all three available Xperia radios and the best one for me is 1.10.25.18 . Satellites lock quickly and signal holds very well.
radios are available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801
You just gotta experiment, good luck!
using igo8 perfectly.
also tried the cab for TT with a free map (to test out footprints) and that works as well.
I had big problems with gps, seems that sometimes a flash can mess it up. It's not related to rom, it's not itje's bug, a hard reset should do the trick. make a backup with something like spb backup, hard reset and then restore
PS I LOVE googlemaps integrated in contact detail page
I am using Touch-It RC1 with IGO8 without any problems, I didnt have any problems with any of the beta versions either.......I havent changed any GPS settings on windows or in IGO8 gps settings etc.

I bet you will have a lot of issue by enabling this. HTC put a bogus non-reachable IP address for AGPS and AGPS never work.
I actually haven't got into much problem with the A-GPS enabled. Only issue is if i leave the GPS program active, but not routing to a destination, and let the screen power off due to inactivity, the phone occasionally freezes. I will trying turning it off and see if i can repeat the freezing.

My Igo 8 working perfect with another cooked rom's. With itje's rom i can not install Igo 8 (8.3.2.64029). I havent changed any GPS settings on my xperia.
I just flashed back my phone with the generic uk rom: (X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_R2AA010) , and now everything working fine , no problem with igo 8.
Any suggestion what im doing wrong?
I have iGo 8 with 4.0 rc 1 w/o any problems, also it worked with all images from itje all the way until 4.0

Add following line to your sys.txt on SD card and Program files\igo8(if iGO already installed)
[device]
type="ALIAS_XPERIA"

That should work; also check if the installation path is correct in sys.txt.
I've got Navigon 7, TomTom 7 and iGo8 working perfectly on the Xperia. TomTom and Navigon are a bit stretched since they were made for VGA, but they work fine.
Also Google maps, Trackr and QuickGPS work fine.
I left all GPS settings to the standard and disabled AGPS.
The above are valid for Itje's 2.01, 2.2, 3.01, 3.5 WWE and NLD, 4.0, Jack 2.08, CmEX 2 and some others I've tried (didn't keep track, I flash every few days )

You mind providing a brief review of these 3 products with pros and cons? I am running Garmin XT at the moment but IGO8 looks pretty interesting...

Here's my take:
IGo8:
Pro: Best graphic (both 3D and 2D) and fluid screen movement, TTS, fully customizable UI. lane info for freeway exit, excellent voice instuctions, Quite easy to use UI if you get use to it.
Con: Take a long time to (> 1 min) start. Resource and memory hog.
Garmin Mobile XT:
Pro: Best POI, Best online functionality if you got 3G plan (Google search, realtime traffic, airline schedule, gas price .... etc).
Con: Ugly UI (IMHO), quite hard to understand how to navigate the menus, slow, no TTS, not so good voice instructions
Tomtom: Very good graphic (just 2nd to Igo), very easy to use.
Con: no TTS, horrible voice instructions in complicated freeway situtation, no feature is best of it class and I don't see the need to use it (e.g. I would either use Garmin or Igo8 depend on situtation and needs, but in no case I would consider Tomtom....)
Thanks for the review! IGo8 sounds good, and I just moved to Socal and freeways is a ***** to navigate so better voice instructions would be a plus.

If you are in US, you should look into IGuidance 4/2009 too. Ugliest interface but best TTS instructions, fast startup time and use a lot less resource.
In my case iGo starts within 15sec., it depends on the stuff (maps, buildings etc.) you include. I´m using the latest version but it eats up a lot of memory though.

My experience is similar to Jacks, but here goes:
Navigon 7:
pro: a lot faster than version 6, very good graphics, roadsigns in landscape, POIs with real life logo's, fast map updates, excellent voice instructions
con: startup is a bit slow, not customisable
iGo 8:
pro: very customisable/skinnable, nice graphics, chooses logical routes, lane info with roadsigns in portrait and landscape, fast map updates, easy to plan a route with multiple stops, displays second move.
con: startup is slow, hard to navigate to contacts (hidden in POI menus)
TomTom 7:
pro: very fast, very easy to understand and navigate from A to B.
con: very simple graphics, hard to customise
I use iGo most, but I think Navigon is nicer to look at and has better voices. iGo voices are a lot better than in previous versions, but you get a lot of notifications for one move. I hardly use TomTom; only when I want to now quickly (within a minute or so) where I can find a specific address.
I've had a play with the tomtom cab from the diamond and the free map of my home town (for footprints experimenting) and the route finding is really bad. I know a few others who have standalone units and have complained of the same.
I was heading back home the other night, set preferences to shortest, turned onto a 2 mile long straight road home and it decided I should instead turn left, go 3 miles to get onto the motorway ride along the motorway for a 1.5 miles than up another road for 2 miles, to come out the other end of the road I was on. mmm
give me igo anyday..
Been involved in the beta testing for the telmap stuff, other than the caching and amount of data it uses it's not bad, but ugly. Walking directions are pretty good as well.
Nothing from all the solutions you gave in this thread works for me ! I tried them all...
Anyone who got this working on Touch-IT v4.0 RC1 , RC 3 , RC 3.01 ......
What branding and data file are you using? What is your igo8 version number ?
What is in your sys conf. file?
Everything working fine with generic uk R2AA010 rom,but nothin with itje rom's....
I like very much his rom, i really wanted to use , but i must to have igo8 on my xperia
