well you see information is a little vague. are you trying to root or are trying to partition an sd card? there is a recovery image that can do it for you? and are wanting just and ext or swap as well?

im trying to partition, i already have root on my phone

to be honest im just trying to fallow what the guide is saying. Im a noob when it comes to this. the guide says i have to partition when it comes to placing a custom rom to your phone.

go to this link and grab this recovery image, follow the instructions on how to flash it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
then with this new recovery, there is an auto partioning command
hit that voila

thanks for helping me out

no problem, the wrecking crew needs to be helpfull every once in a while instead of just hijacking threads all the time

Rogers Root + Cyanogen recovery 1.4

I searched and searched and cant find a thread with a definite answer for this. And there is simply too much info that is close to the answer but not quite it.
Basically I have a Rogers HTC Dream that I rooted with haykuro spl/radio method:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
and CyanoGen's MOD 4.0.2. Now Im not sure but do I already have Cyanogen's recovery image 1.4 ( i want it for auto APPS2SD) or do I have to reflash my phone with it and will it still work with haykuro's rogers root. Thank you for you help

all you have to do is reflash the rom, no wiping should be needed, but from what i have read then yes it is needed.

[Q] Semi-bricked Phone

I admit I am the noob of noobs, so this complete jobber asks for your help.
Having been on 2.3.5 Gingerbread XFJVA using the method from the website below and this worked perfectly fine
http://androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-i9000-official-gingerbread-235-xfjva-firmware/
I tried to root the phone and upon rebooting was faced with this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The phone can enter download mode (but not recovery mode), but I'm scared to try anything without reassurance. What do I do? can someone please give me some step by step help, I just want to get back what I had before the root (ie. the 2.3.5 XFJVA)
Thanks!

Try this, with the correct PIT and PDA files:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEjTaFg_2Ks&feature=related
correct,
you have now to reflash the entire stock Samsung ROM with Odin, checking RE-PARTITION and with the correct pit file.
my bad, forgot to quit Samsung Kies.. that was the problem..

Its an flashable zip so you can flash it with CWM
Download HERE or you can find it in my mediafire share folder (link is is my signature)
Working for:
-CM7 all versions
-20N
It is possible that there is already in P970_GB_234_V20N_lite?
or was a freak of CWM as I had it ready to be installed in SD?

First of all, Make sure your phone is rooted, and has CWM Recovery. (If not, find the instructions here)
Download it, boot into CWM Recovery, click on Install zip from SDCARD, then reboot, and the phone will boot on the boot animation you downloaded.
works perfectly! thanks!

Rooting GT-I9000 reboot loop help

Yes, I know there are a lot of these posts here most likely.
The thing is I don't know which remedy I should follow to resolve this situation as many of them seem to expect that the device is rooted already. Or people are in a boot loop after previously rooting it, and upgrading from a previous custom firmware. My device is stock never rooted.
What I have done is follow the steps in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546
I followed these only to the end of the first section to root the deivce. I am running a GT-I9000.
The first time I ran Odin it gave me an unable to open serial port error. I rebooted the phone and this time it worked giving me a pass green box in the top right.
Since then, the phone boots to the samsung splash screen and immediately reboots in a cycle. I can get to the download page again, and can get to the recovery page again but am unable to get it out of the boot loop.
I used the Semaphore_2.7.4.tar linked to in the guide, and installed the samsung usb drivers prior to running anything. I am using windows 8 for this.
So my question is what do I need to do from here?
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Its likely you had a froyo ROM and you flashed a gingerbread kernel and booting the phone, so you can follow

Magisk-install fail/no fail

I am attempting to root a Acer Iconia B3-A40 (yuck, I know.. but my wife loves it...)
Was following the 'how to' guide here.
1. Installed Magisk

}
,
2. Successfully ID'd type of boot image
(downloaded clean copy from acer.com 0
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
3 verified image ( and found boot.img) and copied it
Step 3: Patching the boot image
And HERE' S the first problem/question:
NEXT it tells us to install
First part, fine second part not so fine. See pic:
Q1: Presuming it DIDN't work? so why did it write a file, and accept everything?
OK I SHOULD have stopped here///
But I didn't.
It did show a file at the location, I continued, tried to boot to recovery, and tablet hung. (was hanged?)
I did get tablet back up, and when it booted, the memory card was corrupted.
Hope this is a good start for someone else.
Ideas? troubleshooting tips?
thanks in advance!!!
If you save the installation log after patching the boot image and then post it here it might show more about what's going on.

Is there a chance it still exists, after 2 reboots?

No. It has to be saved before you leave the flashing window (your screenshot #3). But you can just patch the same file again and save the log without doing anything else.
