flash player question - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

has anybody been able to do anything usefull or interesting using the flash player that comes with the hero roms.i havent had any luck at all.and whats with adobes website video showing it work so nicely on hero?

are they using on the htc hero, or a htc dream with hero on it? also, company-made promotions are always sooooo much better than the real thing.

Have you tried Miniclip.com? Addictinggames.com? Almost half of the games work on Hero

porting hero browser

Currenly the only thing keeping me on the hero build is the browser does anyone know if it is possible to port this over to a jf or cyan build?
thanks
Have you tried the hero lite builds? They should be pretty fast, maybe comparable to cyan's while you wait for a port.
thanks ill give it a go
limited functionality
after using the hero browser for a couple weeks, I can say the flash does not really make that big of a difference. You still won't be able to play most videos online. The multi touch works great and the visual bookmarks are cool. But, it is slower than the browser on cyan's build and if your running rosie you will be getting really close to maxing out the memory each time you use it.

Is it worth

Is it worth me taking a new dream from Tmobile UK and rooting it to get a Hero ROM so I can have the new UI ??
Are there any problems with the ROM ?? that would stop it being used day to day ? also is it worth trading googlemail push for Microsoft Active Sync for Exchange which I used before on my WM device. ??
Hero is a port from a device with higher specs so to run on a g1, there will be a noticeble inherit slowness. I believe you will still have gmail on a hero rom though. For day to day use I would use a cyanogen rom. If you do want to run hero, you will need to partion your sd card into 3 partions, hero also has problems missing text, no bluetooth and no led notiifacations
Thankyou
Sounds pretty much like its not worth it then shame cause i love the dream QWERTy keyboard trying to type emails with on screen keyboard is a nightmare.
are there any screen shots of this ROM you mentioned ? What is good about this ROM ?
I just got the Dream yesterday it was supposed to be a Hero but they sent the wrong phone and offered me line rental discount if i kept it.
I just not sure if I should send it back and get hero.

it depends on how much you want the physical keyboard. personally i wouldn't be able to give it up. the cyanogen rom he mention looks like a stock rom unless you theme. sorry don't know where i can get stock screen shot right now. you can probably google it though.
Go over the devolpment sub-forum and go into cyanogenmod thread, you can see screnshots there, go witht the stable version which is 4.04, basiclly the feel and look of a stock rom but optimize for performance, it is the top rom for speed and stabilty at the moment. You can also download the cm updater from the market to stay on top of updates and a easy way to flash for now on. But make sure you make a nandroid backup for a just in case cause every once in a while you can get a bad download. Highly suggest also flashing cyanogen's pimped out recovery 1.4
Thanks for the info I might just hold off for a while and see how I go with stock ROM although I suspect I need to do something cause i am struggling to find any widgets that I want to use on the phone as standard

im pretty sure you could find a g1/dream on ebay or somewhere fairly cheap so if you can i would get the hero and have the g1 i mean i am buying a practically brand new g1 from a friend that is rooted with the 1.33.2005 spl for $100 maybe i just got really lucky.
You got lucky, I just got mine from t-mobile for 150 with a new 2 year contract, so hopefully my g1 won't be extremely out of date and unsupported by then. At least by then there should be a new android phone with a snapdragon or tegra processor with 500mb ram and a pyshical keyboard which will blow away the g1 and even hero. Who knows by then we might have full graphic support with some cool ass games. Just hope we can get some better battery life by then

actually gridlock is pretty much wrong.
bluetooth doesnt work but i dont need it so i can live without it. LEDs dont fully work. it shines green whenever i get something new,but it doesnt blink.
missing text only exist is some hero roms... in JACs 1.6r2a , sms works fine. there is a slowness when compared to other cupcake builds, but hero runs pretty fast in my opinion. just cyanogens cupcake builds run faster.
i really like the sense ui and included widgets. multitouch is nice. and watching youtube in High quality over a 3g network is wonderful.
i love using the twitter widget. its soo useful. i only use twitter to follow devs, android news, tmonews, and new ROM news. so its easy to keep track of what the devs are doing and releasing
also i enjoy using my phone as a wifi access point, so i can use my laptop anywhere i go.
there is lag at times, but its not like SUPER SLOW. and you cant open the keyboard while at the homescreen. u just cant yet. but in apps u can.
isn't there hero free from tmobile uk with a contract? or was that only for a while back? i remember seeing it when it was released. i would definitely get the hero then just buy a g1 off ebay or something. then just alternate between the 2. also it would take a large discount for me to keep the g1.
don't get me wrong i love my g1 but it would be easier to buy a g1 that it would be to buy a hero, just my opinion.
Ok so how do you figure I am wrong, you just backed up what I said, ok so you get your led to shine but it is still not correctly working, you backed up what I said about it being slower, I was saying hardware wise, and you backed up saying that some hero roms miss texts. Can you run your hero without swap or compchace without having a significant difference, I don't think so. Yes hero roms are getting better but in all reality how was I pretty much wrong when you said the same thing in nicer terms. Just out of curiosity. I think it just comes down to a matter of opinion

"hero also has problems missing text, no bluetooth and no led notiifacations"
jacs hero 1.6r2a has no sms issues. the ones that have sms issues are the one thats older and outdated, or the new hero roms that hasnt been optimized.
LED notifications exist. just not as good as cupcake, but they are there.
its late and i dont feel like arguing with u. hero does have lag compared to cupcakes builds, but its not major
i say get the hero and than get a g1 i got one from craigslist practically new without contract for 130=D
Just been looking down the specs
The Dream and Hero are pratically the same apart from the memory and camera.
Not really to bothered by the camera anyways I got a 12mp camera if i want a photo. The video on the Hero is poor anyways. The only thing id be paying for is widgets at the expense of a full keyboard of the dream.
I suspect the increase in ROM and RAM is only to allow the Hero to run the Sense UI interface.
I think im going to stick with the dream.....

i would trade you a dream rooted with 1.33.2005 spl and like 150 or 200 dollars for the hero lol

HTC Camera

Hi to all
i'm using MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.5 ROM
and trying to install the HTC Camera from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10546829&postcount=125
but it doesn't work...
can someone help me please???
I did exactly some thing along with library files, but it doesnt worked. I installed it and restarted the mobile and it stucked at htc hd2 boot screen image. Wait for Mdj to have this in the build. But only possible if we all request him!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA app
i've posted this in the rom thread there was some response from ppl who want this too but havn't heard from MDJ yet...
don't know what to do this is the only rom that works good for me exept WM
and WP7 is out of the quastion cause it's still lack of good hebrew support and a good gps software
so android it is....
hopfully more ppl will ask for it and mabe in the next realese we all will have the HTC Camera unless there is another way to make it work wich i would very like to know!!
You can't install HTC Sense applications on non-Sense ROMs because the apps require an underlying Sense framework, which is not open source and has not/cannot be ported - I doubt MDJ is focusing on this. Same reason you can't use Sense widgets on non-sense ROMs. Gist of it is it that if you want Sense anything (Except that one keyboard port), use Sense. Else use Vignette or Camera 360.
Has been asked many times over, might be worth searching before posting next time.

Sorry Guys,
This Cam don't work on Gingerbread.
It needs the HTC Framework, Sense and some other files.
Maybe if in Future comes an Gingerbread with Senes it works.

[Q] question and opinions wanted

I have an HTC Hero and one of my many questions is do you think Sprint and HTC will make a Hero 2 ... maybe with a 3.5" or lil bigger (not a monster sized phone) with either a good 1ghz processor or even a dual core and maybe keep the "track Ball" but lose all the other buttons make them all capacitive touch ..... thoughts or opinions ?
I do believe that the Hero has been very successful for both HTC and Sprint.
Ok back to me and My Hero I am not a developer and I am new to the rom switching game. I love the crisp look of the factory Sense UI, but I am one of those types that sees things differently. I look at things and say to myself how could we improve on this or how can we make it faster and keep it looking good. I found this website, and pretty much changed my Hero into a Super Hero so to say.
I also would like to say thanks to all of the great developers on the CDMA Hero side, so far I have tried almost every variety of rom and different mod on my Hero (have screenshots once I get out of the probation period I will post them)
So far I figured out the easiest way for me to root my hero is with one of two I found floating around these forums, Hero Root by regaw leinad or super1click v1.7 ..... I also figured out that firerat's mod is easier the data2ext if your nat really familiar with adb. I also have found three more programs to help a lot, droid explorer, android commander and qtadb.
My question to all Hero owners what do you think is the best all around ROM, Gapps, and other mods as of May 8th 2011? (I am just looking for opinions I read almost every thread on this site and I would just like to see it all together call me lazy)
All this and I have not "bricked" my Hero .... must be one tough s.o.b.
To answer your first question, I just don't see a revised Hero in the works. It has a been a great phone for many users and Sprint alike I'm sure, but the Hero is not likely to reappear simply because it doesn't really conform to what HTC is doing with most of their phones now (4-4.3 inches, capacitive buttons, similar super thin form factor). I definitely don't think they would put a trackball in, because even if there were a trackpad on a new device it's almost guaranteed to be optical. If there were to be a refresh, I definitely think we would have heard something by now considering the lifespan of the Hero.
As for roms, I'd definitely suggest playing around with AOSP or CM7 versions of Gingerbread. You may find that you prefer greater customizations than you get with Sense. However, if you really really dig Sense and would much rather have it, there's a great group of guys developing Sense 2.1 for Gingerbread on the Hero. It's in Alpha right now, but even considering that, it's a fantastic piece of work. As far as Gapps go, I would just stick to the latest ones provided at the Cyanogenmod wiki. I don't really apply other mods as I personally don't think I need any, but YMMV.
i for one love the design its the perfect size for me and as far as the processor goes once i overclocked it a little bit its plenty fast enough for me because i dont really install a ton of apps and as far as gaming goes i have a ps3 for that lol so it really is the perfect phone for me all the new ones are just to big i think.
and ive had the hero sense september and i had a mt3g before that.
OMGB
I have been running OMGB for the past 8 hrs I am using wifi only browsed the web for a while, cut grass listened to some MP3's and browsed the web some more and more MP3's I listened to MP3's for a couple hours (with the MIUI player found in the forums) and it shows pretty good battery life
I would also like to add that I am using the
opengles tweak to show supported version 1.1 (not 100% sure why I did it ... maybe just to say I did it successfully)
s0be's kernel AP5, unCoRrUpTeD data2ext V2.2, and the MIUI music player and camera apks
I like the bare minimalist look and feel this rom has, but I still dont have a true favorite .... variety is such a sweet thing and all these choices .... and most of the people I know dont even know what an HTC Hero is .... if its not a iLemon or if it doesnt say DROID (like in the commercials) they just dont "get it"
ok found the first flaw ..... lol
my market says verizon where i would normaly see Sprint and had my first FC

[Q] Best (1stable 2fast 3new) HTC Dream G1 ROM out there?

Hi all,
The other day i have got HTC Dream G1, the ROM i have used a littlebit on it was Froyobylazslo. Since i googled and results told me (from polls here) that its best one. Last view month ive been using BB 9780 instead so havent used HTC anymore. But a view days ago i wanted to play arond with it. And ive noticed that it sometimes crashes. And since i have also been hacking around with a BB and tried getting Hybride on it. And in the end, after spending a whole weekend without a result just installed plain simple one of the latest official releases on it. And it just works. I want the same expirience on this HTC.
So do you guys have any suggestion what would be the ultimate ROM for me? Since my consideration is: 1 stability 2 speed 3 new.
Well features are nice but if it costs me stability or speed no thx. Because my BB bow without BIS and installed Gmail app and Opera does everything i need from it. Comfortable, nice design, Phone, sms, email and some surf. And a map to. And i dont even care that twetter and some other apps doesnt work. I dont really use them anyway. So as u see consideration for me is stability and overall good working.
Is the 1.6 original android the choice that would give me the stable system? Or is there still some other Cyanogen version that is old but stable ?
Thanks in advance,
Nikolai
1.6 android is still and probably will always be the fastest on the g1. now you can use the newer/better kernels and updated radio/spl to achieve more speed (14mb ram hack)
there are lots of 1.6 roms that are great. of course there are 2.1 2.2 and 2.3 roms out there for the g1 but they tend to have a few lags here and there.dosent mean i dont recommend them! im a big fan of lots of the newer roms but they dont have the speed of donut
hi,
U didnt mention any names that u prefer
ty
...
I prefer FBL -that is a stabel, fastes end battery save rom (whit farmatito kernels)
If you wont -there its HTCClay beuteful ROMs - superfast end superstabel, i mean fastest 3.2 end 3.3 this 2 roms -killerqueen.
Sorry, there hasn't been anything other than froyo and gingerbread created in a long time so I assumed you new the old ones. For donut the best is csdiv4 and eclaire super e, that's my opinion but check out the rom bible to see other views on the older roms
