Best Eclair Rom in your opinion,
Cannon Complete or OpenEclair.
OpenEclair hands down lol.
I like Cannon ;D whoever gets video first wins, which will be open eclair probably though...
when is a poll not a poll
when its not a poll
@TheDeadWalk,
can you edit OP and set as a Poll ?
about to flash 1.2.2 OE
I tend to not keep OE roms for long, I have a look see and drop, King's ROMs are much better imo.. and since CaNNon's was King based....
I was on Complete Eclair until King's Hero Eclair ( which is very nice )
but as I said flashing OE 1.2.2 , but I do read it has lots of stability problems, and isn't all that fast..... we shall see.
for the moment with a choice between OE and CE its CE easy
having said that CE 1.2 had problems ( Wifi, FB Contacts ect ) but if you read the thread I got round them quite quickly

i tried making a poll but have no idea how lol
if youd let me know how its done ill make it happen.
personally, im using CE right now with SetCPU @ 528 and its
quite quick!
Muuuuuuuuuch better than the laggy xRom build i had before.
with xRom, SetCPU would slow it down even more for some reason!

same here, i havent tried openeclair yet, but i like what i see in cannon's so far, so i'm not going to really change until a major update like working video/youtube comes out
More importantly how do you remove Eclair?
I've put Cannon on my wifes and now I can't get rid of it!!
Cyanogen Nanfroid will not restore and you can't wipe and flash another rom as you get a bootloop.
Frustrated.

Did you wipe everything?
If so. Backup everything on the phone and then partition it again.
Just a safety measure
So im still on Cannons Eclair w/ SetCPU at Min:528 ; Max:528 and its running pretty smoothly.
hows everyone else running?
canon's eclair is pretty nice and smooth , i havent tried open eclair yet, but i think the next version will be promising and stable, also as i mentioned in another thread, canon and kings eclair seem to only have partially working led's as they tend to turn off when the screen is on for notifications, supposedly openeclair has fully working leds...not that that has anything to do with performance lol. but if you can mind the partial leds, canons is faster at the moment from what ive heard

I swear there was an identical thread just last week o_o' Cannon has firerat's patch for 3D and video but openeclair will probably take over in the next update xD
I was searching for a rom update for Eris an saw this video showing Eclair with HTC SenseUI...

is possible to port this to vogue?

sorry, could not think of this limitation ...
Alright, I've got this up and running,
I'm just working on the permissions so as the htc widgets work properly, and google apps work.
It runs pretty good though I have to say, for a sense build. Phone.apk lag remains however I'm pretty confident with a renice script it'll be fine.
jamezelle makes a SenseUI build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619718
It's ported from the HTC Tattoo.
k I've got this build running great, with the exception of google apps aren't currently working. I've got a line on how to fix them.
So in it's current state which is boot from ext2 or sd card partition only do you guys want me to post it? Or wait till I've got google apps working correctly?
And for a sense build it runs fantastic, probably better than any other sense build you've tried I bet. Certainly better than any I've run.
And yes phone still lags, but run a renice and bet it will be find.
is it installable to sd card or do we have to run it haret
theres always an app to take the place of most google apps
I know this isn't where I belong but any love for kaiser users?
yes installable to sd card, it's an androidinstall.tar..
No sorry no kaiser love, just a beta port at this point.

Gapps not working from SD, is this a problem with eclair? I've run lots of builds from SD, some with ext2 partitions, some not. Mostly I've used Donut lately, but have had Eclair, too. Maps and Gmail have always worked. I never use Google talk. Am I missing something, or are these not gapps? Anyway, I'd like to try your build on ext2 partitions.
Nice!!!
I'll try!
i would definitely love to try the betaport also!

Pair this up with the 7-2 .nbh and you've got a build where everything works and works snappily. (Is that a word?)

I tried to bring in the market apk from Myn's Warm Donut, but since this is an Odex-ed build it didn't work. I may give it another try, though.
I've been using Incubus' Froyo for a while now, and was using Release 13
I backed up all my stuff and dumped my data to an img so I could always go back if necessary
Loaded up this RLS 3 of the HTC Ion build - wow... FAST
Nice ROM - good stability - everything works.
Upgraded to latest Google maps - its working no issues
Market seems to work fine, no issues
I also seem to get better signal on the phone with this Ion build than I did with Froyo
Any new updates planned on this?
Unless something really Astonishing or cool happens with a newer Foryo build,
I'm thinking that I'll be sticking with this HTC Ion build for the Vogue
Thanks to all the people that worked on this one!

Yes - Sprint network - HTC Vogue
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/voguimg-320x480-02-07-10.nbh
is the image I downloaded and flashed
Either of these should work - depending on what resolution you want:
voguimg-320x480-02-07-10.nbh
voguimg-320x428-02-07-10.nbh
voguimg-240x320-02-07-10.nbh
I find the 320x480 to work quite well
Used Rogue Tools - set to 500mhz OC and also 160 DPI
this is a nice rom.. thanks to 'does_it_matter' i've been checking it out...
in froyo i was able to 1-second press the 'camera' button and it would act as the 'home' action and return you to home screen.
what is the 'home' screen button for this rom as that same action does not appear to work here...?
THANKS!

Can I ask how do you backup all your OS release? Can I do this if I am running haret with a partitioned card? ie: Backup all 3 partitions so I can reinstall easily?

When you boot the phone, hold the center d-pad
Choose Backup data - and you can backup the data partition
it backs up to the Andboot folder and is 256MB in size so have the space available!
That way, I can just reload a Froyo Release, then re-load the data.img and I am back where I started!
I also backup all my contacts/sms to google

Hey gang,
I just bought a used HERO for my mother and would like to root it and load a custom rom. I will follow this guide to root it : Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)
I need some advice on a good clean rom though.
Below are my 'wanted features' in a rom.
Android 2.1
HTC Sense
stable (no need for constant reboots)
App2SD
good battery life
NOT overclocked
NOT themed (she just wants what she sees in the commercials. Stock look and colors)
keyboard with voice input (she sucks at typing and just wants to "talk to text")
LWP (optional but she probably won't use)
I looked at the rom area... and got lost with all of the choices.
She will never change a single setting once it is configured for her.
she just wants an "Android".
Thnx!
Everything except that stupid Blue Echo Rom, that thing is horrible

Please link me to a ROM that fits her needs (if that exists)
Try nfinitiefx45 stock 2.1 deodexed or damage control 2.09.01
Sorry I can't link from the xda app.
Also, if the phone already has 2.1 on it, there is a new rooting method. If it has 1.5, flashrec should work fine.

Darchstar 2.8 !! My phone never ran so smooth I have very very little keyboard Lag.
Sooo, why not keep it bone stock since otherwise you'll void her warranty for nothing?

+1 for nfinitefx45's stock ROM. but get the odex version since you won't be using themes
Fresh is also a good option with slight visual tweaks (uses HTC Espresso launcher + vanilla lock screen)
of the 2 i'd guess the nfinitefx ROM is more stable since it's closer to stock, but I honestly haven't tried fresh.

My sig says it all....
(although DD is on a new version now... and does not have sense, but with a few simple flashes, who needs it?)
(PS, LWP sux, will not work on most roms (ie, not sticking on standby), and a batt drain, and slows sys down. dont bother.)
(PPS, after re-reading your OP, I am wondering why you are looking for a custom rom at all? b-sides the lwp thang, stock has all that, no theme, stable. root is good for a few extra things and I recommend it, but perhaps use a stock rom for stability and consistency....?)

I think you just want another Hero to play with lol. If you really want a custom rom, the odex version of Nfinite's stock rom has gobs of internal memory and is snappier than any deodexed rom.

Then u haven't used the new jit. Cause the one nfinite and I are using is very stable and very fast. There will be an update out soon for it.
For a while I would like to ask this question, but I cannot post on the dev forum on the ezgingerbread thread:
Which one is faster or less laggy? I've been on ezgingerbread for more than two months, pulled the repo and compiled the .zip to install, also tried 0818 precompiled download. However, even the newest version does not give me the same speed I had with terry's MT3d OTA rom. On ezgingerbread, when I press Gmail for a first time, I still need to wait from 10sec to 30 sec for my gmail to occur (613MHz), it become 1-2 seconds if I open gmail again, but that performance doesn't hold if the interval is, for example, an hour or so.
I've heard good words about froyo by laszlo except that it is not developed now, but I guess what I care is: is it less laggy than ezgingerbread? I've read the comments following the poll
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18067831#post18067831
and developed a doubt about trying froyo by laszlo at this date. What do you think? As flashing a rom and reinstall would take me quite some time (not sure if titanium backup can restore my apps in gingerbread to froyo, or if the nandroid backup actually works perfectly...)
Your input is greatly appreciated.
If you do an nandroid+ext / bart backup switching between ROMs is not such a big thing, as long as radio/SPL requirements are the same.
Speed of ROMs is very subjective and depends much on the applications / services you've installed and which are running. If you do *not* install lastest Google Maps / Market / G+ / ... there is not so much difference between Froyo and Gingerbread, but if you use those apps on Gingerbread for sure it will be slower.
Just my 0.02€

Latest Market (3.1.6) is using ~10MB of internal Memory and > 25MB when running, even worse the situation for G+ and Maps. It's too much for a G1. As far as I know, those versions of the apps are not available for Froyo, but I might be wrong. That's the reason why I told "Gingerbread with the lastest Gapps is for sure slower than Froyo".
i tried both, lazlos is faster, did not use ext on sdcard. try both its not hard to switch between the 2 and see for yourself
Try both, then choose froyo for laszlo.
I use Froyo Melt by ldrifta (AKA: DreamTeam Froyo). It is very fast from my experience on G1. I also have apps and data on SD card with no lag (at this point) with about 20 apps installed. The only thing I use with GAPPS is the GMail.
So, based on my experience I would pick froyo for laszlo if I have to pick between the two.
If your looking for a fast GB ROM, with a good amount of internal space. Use my ROM Nomy CM7.1 2.3.7. Its really fast, is ment for optimum RAM. I'll be adding legacy Apps2ext. No MTD needed, no swap, its under 40MB Zipped. 52 on system. It will be under 40MB unzipped by the end of this month.

For me froyo by laszlo runs faster.

So if I ever want to stay with ezgingerbread, can I freeze the version of these apps:
Market to 3.1.5,
Gmail to 2.3.5.
Map 5.10.1
as I currently see them on my Froyo by Laszlo, can I expect similar feeling as a froyo ROM?
After several days, I restored back to ezgingerbread.
Froyo gives a rough feeling. Like everything is half-baked. Froyo by Laszlo has a problem in the battery life, I flashed ezterry's newest kernel over it, still not up to my expectation (not sure why). So I am going back.
I do not have enough time to try other roms suggested to me, guys, sorry!

Agreed. Gingerbread, although not extremely fast, is a very nice, clean upgrade. Gb, and almost any version of it, is a interface clearly focusing on more than just performance, it offers aesthetics like nothing else.
