I started with a stock/locked Verizon xv6900, went through the unlock process and then flashed Myn's warm donut build onto the phone. I know the GPS was locked down by Verizon with the stock WM 6.1 rom, but now I don't get any signals on the droid build.
GPSTest never acquires any satellites, even though it states that GPS is on, but with a yellow dot next to it in the program. I have checked the settings and it is in fact turned on. Google Maps is unable to find my location.
Appreciate any thoughts or help.

I'm pretty sure this is tied to the radio you're using - did you flash any other carrier roms (ie sprint, bell, etc.)? If not see the "Verizon how to fix gps really we mean it this time" thread in the winmo rom dev forum. You can ignore the part about flashing a custom winmo rom and just flash android instead.

Yes, what he said.
There are a lot of people around here who have Verizon who have working GPS, so it is possible to get it working.
Android uses WinMobile's configuration, so if you have it working reliably in WinMobile, it should work in Android. If it isn't, then try going back to WinMobile again, and then flash back to Android.
Thanks for the info! My apologies, but I guess I didn't realize that I needed to have it working in WinMo before flashing Android on it. Try a custom WinMo later today and then Android.

So over the weekend I took a trip to Savannah GA, ever since returning home (atlanta, ga) my gps location shows me being in the middle of the atlantic ocean....seriously.
Im running the latest superE rom. This is the first time I have ever had any gps problems. In fact, I use the navigation app daily for work. Which reminds me, the navigation app worked perfect on the way home as well....
Any thoughts?

GPS *cannot* be off like that.
You need to ensure that GPS is turned ON and has *actually locked*. Network location *can* have errors like that. Seems likely to me that you are getting a bad network location.
Hi Everybody,
I am very interested in purchasing the Tmo-US version of this phone when it is avaliable and I would like to know how is the GPS on these phones? How fast does it lock and for those who are coming from SGS, can you see a big difference in GPS performance? I am currently using a SGS vibrant on tmo-us and GPS is very bad on it. Thanks
better than thge galaxy s.
First time i used it it took like 10 minutes to lock on lol, but then each time after that pretty much instant (or close enough)!
Not perfect for mine, sometimes under the sky also cant lock any satellite or scan no satellite in car. But other people are getting pretty good result though. That's why i am not sure it's my problem or not.
I edited the gps.conf file for my location (not sure if neccesary, but had the file from my previous HD2 so figured wtf..)
gps locks in 15 seconds when outside
Mine is MUCH snappier than my previous HTC desire
Best gps I've experienced on a phone. Better than my omnia, hero and my wife's galaxy s, which is terrible
Thanks for the quick replies. I am sure with some new updates the performance will improve even better. I cant wait to get my hands on G2x now.
Also extremely happy with the GPS. Using MileageTrac everyday, and the GPS locks within 3-4 secs every time.
GPS is perfect. It locks satellites in 7-20 seconds. Accuracy is 5m.
so a few more uses and yeah still instant. thumbs up!
for those who got fast gps fix time, may I know what baseband are you guys using?
Can it be used for car navigation like the Desire HD? Anyone tried it?
I think I fixed mine.
Solution was (at least one among them)
- push appropriate gps.conf to /system/etc
- modify APN type of Mobile data to "default, supl"
- turn off wireless while aquiring GPS fix
My GPS now fixes within seconds with mobile data enabled.
Have any of you tried GPS Status? It helped alleviate slow-to-lock AGPS issues on my Incredible. If you launch the app, it forces a new download of the carrier's GPS file. GPS lock went from 2-3 minutes on some buggy ROMs to under 20 seconds.
It's not the most elegant of solutions, but it works.

yup, quite a few times works great.
I agree. Use it everyday. It seems more stable than the DHD with better signal lock.
The demo unit at the T-mobile store I went to yesterday had a horrible GPS.
It would freeze up google maps and wouldn't lock AT ALL when the satellite antennae was turned on.
With the antennae turned on, google maps worked, but the circle for your location was huge (obviously).

Were you trying to use it indoors or did they let you take it outside to test it out?

Did you try GPS on any other phones? Signal could have been bad inside the building.
Being a Vibrant owner, with all its GPS issues, I'm very interested in how the this works on the G2X before I consider switching.
Thanks.
Worked fine whilst I was out today. Only problem was a lack of a data connection.

Hello people so after a year of messing around I finally got my gps to lock. The problem is that it is not 100%, sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't. So my question is like WM is there any way to check and setup aGPS correctly on your XV6900.
I am currently using android 2.2 and I get locks sometimes using GSP test app. It also take anywhere for 1-20 min and I have to be outside the whole time. I think the having the aGPS configured right will be nice. Please help! I will really appreciate it. Another thing I have androind on my rom and no WM installed on the device.
I use GPS Status and Toolbox. You can find it in the market, just search "GPS" its free.
So still did not find a solution. What does work though is using GPS Status and Toolbox manually updating A-GPS the using GPS test to lock. This gives the fastest results. For sime reason GPS Status and Toolbox takes a long time to lock compared to GPS test. I also like the UI of GPS test better.... well this problem is some what solved.
Okay guys, so I know that this question has been done to death but I really can't find anything about it.
I recently installed the most recent July 9th version of AOKP. Everything works fine except for my gps.
I have done "• If your GPS doesn't work after flashing, fastboot back to stock ICS, then flash this is CWM." this step in the AOKP ROM thread multiple times.
When I'm on stock, obviously the GPS works fine and can pick up satellites ect. However, when I run the GPS status app or the GPS test app now, it tells me the GPS is on, and the gps icon blinks in the status bar but no satellites are found. I have tried resetting GPS and getting Xtra data in the GPS status app. In the GPS test app, it tells me the GPS is on but the light is yellow in the box that says GPS status. I also have tried clearing and updating AGPS in this app.
Any ideas?
have the same questions , i use the CM and MIUI ,the GPS can not work ,but use the 4.1.1 the GPS works fine....
then i flashed the CM ang miui again ,the GPS can not work again ...
can not find a good way to solve it.

What you get is not really GPS data... If you get it only after flashing gapps, it indicates it is Google location service based on mobile network or WiFi...
Sent from my Atrix HD using xda app-developers app
I was outside when I was testing it.
It was the first time I needed GPS since I started using AOKP. I was fiddling with it in the parking lot for a while. When it didn't work, I went home and did what I said above and then sat in my car and tried to get it to work.

when i tested the GPS, the wifi and gprs were both off. Only the GPS is on .
Some of the gps files were tweaked in the past week or so (dev-team side). Later today I'll be building a new PAC with those updated files. If GPS breaks I'll see if I can't find a fix then. Might need a new GPS lib or some tweaking to the repos....can't really say anything concrete right now.
Bumping this thread again to see if anyone who has had this problem can help me. Just went back to stock after wiping everything. Made sure gps worked. Then I factory reset, cleared the two caches, and flashed AOKP and GAPPS.
GPS still does not work. No satellites picked up, just constant blinking up in the status bar.
