Help.... Need to update rom after un-rooting - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am selling my Dream to get a hero, but the buyer wanted the phone back to factory defaults and unrooted. So I followed a guide from this site to restore the phone, but now I get an error that installation aborted when I try to update to 1.6. Can someone point me to a trouble shooting direction?

where exactly on the unroot process are you?

Also are you installing the official 1.6 update or a modified one?

RUU Question

To update to the official 2.1 do I need to do anything special first? Im currently running Fresh 2.0d with a couple of other mods. I'm wondering if I need to go back to the stock rom first or can I update with out restore. Srry for noob question but I searched and couldn't find anything and before anyone says it I know I lose root.
The way you would unroot proir to the new RUU was to RUU, so there should be anything special you have to do. Just follow the instructions on HTC's site.
Just remember, if you RUU to 2.1 YOU WILL LOOSE ROOT!
this was a public service announcement.
Thanks and I know I lose root but not a big deal to me because its still 2.1. By the time 2.2 comes out they will have a root fix ready for me to get it.
by time 2.2 comes out?! you are very optimistic...

[Q] Nexus One Stock Froyo Problem

I recently bought a nexus one from vodafone, which came with vodafone's version of froyo FRF91 pre-installed. I wanted to get future OTA updates direct from google so I unlocked the bootloader, and downgraded to ERD79 using this guide:
(can't post links, but if you copy 'how to upgrade your nexus one today' into google, it's the first result - this is the guide i followed)
This all worked fine and i'm now on ERD79, but I cannot upgrade any further than ERD79. When I search for OTA updates using the "check in" command, it finds none and still says my system is up to date.
I also cannot update from the sd card using the update.zip method, as I get the following error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I have done this before on another vodafone nexus one using exactly the same method and it worked fine. On the first phone, after downgrading to ERD79, the froyo OTA update began immediately. The only difference was that in that case, the phone did not have froyo to begin with, this time vodafones version of froyo was already installed.
If anybody has any clue as to why the phone will not download an OTA update, I'd be really really grateful if you could let me know!
Thanks
If you unlocked your bootloader - why wouldn't you just flash a custom ROM?

I unlocked it in order to get install stock froyo, so I would immediate future updates from google, rather than having to wait for vodafone to release their own version.
Why don't you instal Geo411m's rom? It's almost stock...(I really like it)
And as soon as the new OTA update is available you will find it here (and most likely it will be rooted asap)
What file did you use when you renamed to update.zip? From what i did. I downgraded to EPE76 then downloaded signed FRF85B. from EPE76 it said my system was up to date. but when i manually updated to FRF85B and checked the system updates it auto downloaded FRF91.
I used "PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_1.01.1700.1_ERD79_release_signed.zip" with fast boot to get ERD79 and then attempted to use "signed-passion-ERE27-from-ERD79.a487b405.zip" on the sd card to update. Then i get the error.
Appreciate the help guys,
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717870&highlight=FRF91+downgrade
Second post. is the PASSIMG.zip. place in sdcard and boot into bootloader.
This takes you to EPE76.
then download FRF85B
http://www.mediafire.com/?j5zejudgngm
rename to update.zip. boot into stock recovery (triangle with android) then hold power and hit volume up, select update.zip
Ok I tried that and I got an error 'main version is older'.
I am downloading "PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_1.11.1700.1_EPE76_release_signed.zip" now to try and do the same with that, or is that the same file that was called PASSIMG.zip in the thread you linked?
Have you looked into this thread?
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure-himem/
Yes i have that thread bookmarked but it's not helping me much right now unfortunately
I managed to get onto EPE76 by flashing the boot, recovery and system .img files using fastboot. But when i try to update to frf85b with the sdcard method i get the same error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Ok, I tried updating with the sd card method using RA custom recovery - it gives the error:
E: No signature (575files)
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted
Solved this now. In case anyone else has had this problem, it is related to the vodafone froyo versions having HBOOT 0.35.0017. Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726258 to change that and go back to a version that allows updating

[Q] How to Unroot Sprint Hero?

Ive searched through a few forums and read a many posts. Its seems that many people have problems unrooting their phone, whether its using the wrong ruu or something else. & honestly the unrooting process confuses me a little. I would be happy if anyone could tell me the best/right way to unroot a sprint hero. I really want to do this is 1 try. All answers are appreciated...
Run the official Sprint RUU, takes one step to do.
Error 171
While running the ruu i got an error 171 message. It said it couldnt connect to my phone. I used the ruu from the post here because apparently i wont be able to reroot if I use the latest ruu. Can anyone help?
Nvm. I think it happened because i had my brower & word open. I closed them then restarted the process. My phone seems to be working just fine now.
I am about to sell my Hero (anybody interested?) and I want to completely unroot my Hero so that it is exactly how it would be if I never rooted it:
* OTA updates installed and enabled
* No way to boot into recovery
* Completely stock and updated
...like if I was to go buy one at the Sprint store right now. I will just use it completely stock until it is sold.
How would I go about this? Just install the official RUU? Which one should I install and where can I get it?

Just run the latest RUU and it will be back to stock, with no root and recovery.

[Q] Upgrading unlocked/rooted STOCK ROM Telus phone

Hey all,
So my HTC One is my first android and to take full advantage of it I rooted the phone when I got it. That is my only experience so far and I have never tried a custom ROM. I just wanted access to some of the apps that used root. Now I want to update my phone to the newest 4.3 that was just released and am not entirely sure how to go about doing it and what I need to do. I am hoping it is possible without data loss ideally. I currently have TWRP on it and am guessing that needs to be replaced to proceed. Can I somehow just take the OTA if I do something? I tried to do it but it fails in TWRP giving me:
"Updating partition details...
Processing AOSP recovery commands...
Unable to locate zip file '/data/media/[email protected]
E:Error installing zip file '/data/media/[email protected]
Done processing script file"
I am having a hard time finding the proper guide I need to help me out so any direction would be greatly appreciated. Also I have S-On if that matters
First, you must be stock recovery and stock ROM for the update to work. If I were you I would forgo the update since you will lose root.

Well I don't really want to skip out on 4.3 and stay on 4.1.2 forever. I have never flashed a custom ROM so I assume that all I need to do is restore the stock recovery to do this? Or is there more to it? The loss of root would only be temporary though right as I could just re-root right after the update
Any one able to help me? I'd love to get to 4.3 and not lose my data. What do I need to do?
