To update to the official 2.1 do I need to do anything special first? Im currently running Fresh 2.0d with a couple of other mods. I'm wondering if I need to go back to the stock rom first or can I update with out restore. Srry for noob question but I searched and couldn't find anything and before anyone says it I know I lose root.
The way you would unroot proir to the new RUU was to RUU, so there should be anything special you have to do. Just follow the instructions on HTC's site.
Just remember, if you RUU to 2.1 YOU WILL LOOSE ROOT!
this was a public service announcement.
Thanks and I know I lose root but not a big deal to me because its still 2.1. By the time 2.2 comes out they will have a root fix ready for me to get it.
by time 2.2 comes out?! you are very optimistic...

RUU does take you back to an unrooted stock phone.
Also, if you do want to get sprint updates you would need to RUU it back. Chances are however that if you get a Sprint update, our current Root will be patched, therefor you won't be able to run a ROM until someone finds a new root method. Which will more than likely be more difficult to find than the first root exploit was...kind of a Murphy's law thing.
XDA will likely have an update just as good or better out by the time Sprint does release theirs. Definitely will have the same update out for root users within 24 hours. At least historically.
O good, thanks for the verification... just making search... then i will await the communties update
Hello everyone, my HTC DREAM touch screen just died on me today meaning it doesn't detect me. I tried battery pull and soft/hard reset and even wipe. I plan on bringing it back to rogers for a replacement or repair but I gotta revert this back to stock. My Phone is rooted and is rogers its also running cyanogen. How I unroot and install the factory firmware, i have looked through google and here and i may missed some or didn't see any results that reflected what I was looking for.
You obviously did not search Google correctly.
Al you'll really need is to find the DREAIMG.nbh file for RC29, and use fastboot to flash it over. That should take you to 1.0, I believe. You may need to find an official OTA update for Cupcake to flash as well, you may not.

Just getting it back to 1.0 is fine. All the OP would have to say is he never wanted to get the updates.
Here is the factory cupcake build you can use. http://androidoverdrive.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85
So if I unrooted using the DREAIMG.nbh procedure 48 hours ago, how long do I have to wait for the OTA upgrade to bring me current? Is there anything I can do to hurry it along? For example, will it not come through if certain apps are being used, etc? Or do I just ... wait longer?
ummm, Rogers doesn't have OTA updates. Just get the e911 update thing from rogers and run that. It will unroot you and put you to the latest rom.
FYI you can now say good bye to root as the new phone that you get from rogers will not allow root.
I feel for you as I am in the same stupid F'N sinking boat. F Rogers.

I will not scold you for not reading enough or reading correctly. I have been reading this site, others, and searching for 3 months to get to the point where I am now. There are thousands of posts and it is often difficult to piece it all together and sort the wheat from the chaff.
I can offer what I have found.

I thought this post might be helpful since it offers a stock rogers rom, but it says 32A, so I don't konw if that will work with the Dream.

This seems cool, but i can't find an md5sum for it, so there seems to be no way to verify the download. It would be a shame to brick the phone with a bad download.
I wonder if anyone has used it successfully and has a checksum?
Maybe [email protected] could help us?
3.

has this:
"
Regardless, heres the original radio (3.22.20.17) and the original recovery (WARNING: UNROOTED) from rogers dream:

"
but again, I cannot find and md5sum for the file, so I am a bit hesitant to use it if a brick could result.
I think suggestion #2 would be great if there was a checksum for the file.
I would keep a copy of it handy as well if I could verify it.

You can't downgrade the bootloader (hboot) version, period. End of story. This is NOT the end of the world though! The 2.1 leaked RUU that you used should have been a rooted developers ROM so you can use that to restore your phone, install the custom recovery, then use whatever ROM you want.

does the bootloader stopper you from using a 1.5 ROM? does it stop you from completely unrooting? i guess what im asking is, can you still flash a stock nandroid and stock recovery, would sprint notice?

If they need/want to reflash, then they will notice. You can just wait 1-? weeks for the official 2.1 Ruu, which likely will use the new bootloader.
Look, the just posted a release signed with Release keys instead of test keys. Once this is put into a proper RUU with Root it MAY fix your issue, give it 24 hours.

They leaked.
@ jlem26
I read this from the sprint community forum:
From Android Central When it rains, it pours. Just got word of a new leak for the HTC Sprint Hero. No way of knowing if this is the final 2.1 version, but this one is signed with release keys so you will lose your root for sure if you're into that sort of thing. Anyone who feels brave and wants to try for themselves you can find it here. Remember, this is not official software from any carrier. Using this is at your own risk, and nobody here at Android Central is suggesting you try it, though we're more than happy to show you where it is. Thanks Beezy420! http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html Haven't tried it myself...But I figured I'd post it..
I downloaded it, but I'm scared to try it.......
The new 2.1 leak is almost certainly the final, so the official Sprint update will prob. be out next week.
WARNING: the new leak is NOT ROOTED, and the old rooting methods will NOT work. (Someone took one for the team and already RUU'ed the new leak, and confirmed he could not root afterwords.)
Presumably someone somewhere is already trying new ways to root this upgrade.
I've attempted root three ways now. NO GO!
Yes, I took one for the TEAM and went ahead and ran the RUU, it's fast clean and works fine so far.
BUT.....it closes the ability to ROOT....you've been warned!
Thanks,
Bubba.
thanks for being brave! Have you had any problems so far.
No problems at all.
Phone runs smooth and fast.
Only issue is that I have NO root now. But I knew the choices going into this option.
Having said that, and being able to officially tell everyone that it in fact breaks the root abilities.....is there anyone attempting to get root with this version or will we just ignore it?
Thanks,
Bubba.
I don't see it getting ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if someone somewhere was already working on trying to figure it out.
Is the 2.1 Droid rootable?
There is a very good write up on how to root 2.1 by craigcrawfore, i know his same post is on droidforums.net and also modaco.
heres the link, worked for me, on my uk milestone with 2.1
http://android.modaco.com/content/m...m/308422/milestone-2-1-update-and-root-guide/
cheers for this craig, im sure ive seen you on xda before.
Does rooting voids warranty? A noob question though.
Kinda...legally, the dont have a leg to stand on if the fault isnt related to the root, but overclocking etc could result in hardware failier due to root. There should be an unrooting method or else get an official update package from moto (RUU sorta thing) if you wanna take take your device back
Thanks for the quick reply. My device is getting hotter even with underclocked 550MHz. As u said overclocking on this device had more chances of hardware failure. Ok if i find any package to unroot n get me back to stock, i will try rooting.
If I root my milestone and motorola releases FROYO update, am I be able to update to FROYO without any problem? or Do I need to come back to stock n then update?
I will load the 2.1 sbf file or the 2.0 or even 2.0.1 version. Then do the ota updates.
The unroot method would be download rsd lite and then load a sbf file.
Easy and under 5 mins! U will be completely factory reset at this stage.
Hello, i have a few question regarding rooting and unrooting and if i wanted to get the official froyo update would i have to unroot? I am currently completely stock but kind of want to root so i can install nonmarket applications and do the lagfix. Okay so first off if i were to root my phone would the oclf + root be the best way to go? And if i were to unroot would i still have the factory warranty? And also would i still be able to get the froyo update if it ever comes? Haha any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
first and foremost.....no one has any real knowledge of the official FroYo (how its going to be released, how we are going to update, ie; kies or OTA) nor does anyone have any idea when its really going to be released....so that question is impossible to answer truthfully. you will have someone undoubtedly come in here and say you must stay stock and never root and then you will have someone else come in here and say that you can go back to stock and it will let you update, blah blah blah....
why are questions like this asked every few days? READ. SEARCH. all this has been debated before and there is no clear answer. if you dont like it, go get an iphone.
rooting is technically voiding the warranty, but if you can get back to stock it doesnt matter.
