I'm having a problem with my ear phones with a built in mic. When I plug it in and try to listen to music, the music is very quiet and distorted almost. Only when I press the button on the earphones does the music sound normal again.
Is there anyway to fix this? Thank you!
Have you tried with other earphones?
...if not...
DO IT!
Are we talking about the earphones that came with the phone?
...if not...
What model/brand are they?
Yeah the factory ones did the same thing. I use my old psp white earphones (no mic of course) and they work fine. The current ones I'm trying to use are skull candy full metal jacket
k just tried it again, the factory ones work now. my current ones don't. only if i plug it into the factory mic adapter then it will work. i don't wanna carry so much cord around lol

The Samsung headphones that came with my tab do not work. They work a little if I pull the plug out part of the way but not when they are plugged in all the way. All other headphones work.
Are you sure you plugged them ALL THE WAY? If they're 100% in, the gold contact should be barely visible.
I thought they were in all the way but they weren't, had the same problem as you; you may need to push them a little
I think its the way the headphones are made. Ive had that issue, just gotta push a little harder than usual

same mine. more than that....i went back to the shop, and I was very surprised when the sales man, show me what I was supposed to do........try to push a little harder than usually ....
You guys were right, I was not pushing them in all the way. I feel like a dumb ass but thank you all!
same here.
at first i thought that the left headphone doesnt work.
later i used them again, pushed a bit harder and the left one works ;-)
same here but not with stock headphones. Replaced them for "ALTEC LANSING Muzx Core" model, didn't push enough and thought they didn't work. good quality price value better than stock
my stock ones worked fine, but the headphones from my n900 didnt work at all =( wierd they seem to have the same 3 contacts i guess there switch around or something..
The stock headset is a big problem for me, it kept on falling out. Maybe I just don't know how to use these headset, I've replaced the soft rubbery thing with a bigger set that came with the headset and still won't stay in my ears. I tried the headset from my iphone and it works as a headphone but the mic doesn't seem to work when making calls. The control seem to be able to pause/play music. The volume control on the apple headset doesn't seem to be able to control the volume though. I need better headsets.
This is the only issue that I had with the stock headphones. The jack is TOO SMALL! I'm having a hard time removing it every time I need to! I'm scared that if I pull it using the cord it'll rip apart.
So far I, and everyone who's played with my Tab have had the same issue with plugging in Headphones. You really have to jam them in there...

I think this is the build of Samsung stuff. I tried Apple headset one day. But the volume keys and the mic did not work. So is the answer button. Anyhow the out of the box headset is far more quality that the iPod ****. However I found out Addidas Schenheiser headset gives the best sound quality. It's like honey to the ears.
Apple headsets are flimsy easier broken yet expensive
hi: So my friend gave me a pair of dr dre beats(tour) earbuds. I plugged them in and everything sounds fine on the phone, but I realized today that when I wiggle the wire near where it goes inside the jack, my music stops. As if my phone thinks the headphone has disconnected. So for example, with double twist, if the wire moves, the song pauses, and I have to press the play button again. I tried a friends Seinheiser headphones, and when I wiggled them, there were no problems. What should I do?
If the head phone connector is gold and appears to be wearing off it just means that thee signal is not making it to the headphones. Gold plated connectors is a way to make a cheap cord better but once the gold wears off the signal strength weakens. I have some really nice dj quality headphones that sound amazing but it can be hit or miss bc the gold is going

just make sure its pushed all the way in.
some headphone jacks are cheap and just dont sit right.
just feel for the click.
if everything is fine there, wiggle just the wire part.
ive had many headphone extention cables break internally and they cut out.
if no other headphones do it, id assume its the headphones,
btw why did your freind give them to you? theyre expensive,,,
it's probably not the jack afterall... i put ipod buds in my captivate and the sound played fine...probably the dre earphones since when i plugged them into a mac nearby and i went to listen to a youtube vid after twisting the wire tip around the sound was lost. thnks anyways
i have the same problem when i plug into the an audio jack from my car stereo.
when i plug it in the right side normally goes out. takes some wiggling of the wire to get sound to both sides.
my friend has the same problem so i think that maybe the jack on the phone is cheap. who knows. maybe ill try another cord.
Alright I've never started a thread,so bare with me. Is it possible to blow the auxiliaryport on the top of the phone? I ask, because no matter what I plug into it. Be it headphones, auxiliary cables for car stereo, Bose speakers for home..... they all sound like the speakers are blown, amenities know they cant be. What happened is I am on the miui Rom, and was talking to my wife thought the car speakers. When we hung up I didn't realise that the car speaker volume was all the way up, so when it made the call ended beep sound, it was loud as hell! After that it sounded like I blew my car speakers. But when I put in a cd, the speakers sounded fine. Also fine with the radio.already long story short, no matter what kind of speakers I use, they sound blown as long as its pluged into my aux port on the phone. Has this ever happened to anyone else , and how do I fix it short of trying to get replacement phone? Will reflashing miui Rom work? Flashing a different kernel Did not. I am sooo confused lol

Hello all.
I recently bought Skull Candy 50/50 headphones to replace my (overly "repaired") headphones.
Problem is that the second I connect them to the device the music player (stock android player) starts playing/skipping tracks like crazy.
It stops skipping tracks and works 100% fine if I hold either of the volume buttons on the headphones remote (the remote doesn't change the volume).
I should mention that the package states "Made for Iphone/Ipod" but the clerk at the store said it will be fine
Has any one experienced a similar problem with said headphones on a milestone?
If not than it would mean the headphones are defective and I need to go replace them (haven't yet because it's ~3 hours worth of driving from where I live).
Motorola Milestone CM7.1 RC8.
thats not just the problem with skull candys. sometimes i experience similiar problems with koss porta pros. i think the problem is the plug. some head phone plugs don't fit well into the jack so that it moves a little and sends a false remote signal to play the next track or something like that.
theres no proof but that may be one explanation
U're right! After changing my headset, i encounter some probs , like a small disconnect or so, which didn't appear when having the original one. So, the female jack may have some issues, or the headset's male jack is a bit thinner... idk...

ya either one
My theory was that since the skullcandy headset was "made for iphone/ipod" then the remote uses different signals than another "made for everything" headset thus making the milestone confused.
But if you guys say that "made for everything" headsets do the same thing than I can only ask why do we have the standard 3.5mm jack if different companies do what ever they want with it.
My 3.5mm jack is 100% functional with other 4 pole headsets so it's either a defective headset or "made for iphone/ipod" should have the word "only" in it.
Thank you all for your replies.
Anyone having problems with the headphones input on their #nexus7 ,depending which headphones I use it seems that will not switch from speaker to headphones.

My headphones needed a bit of force to get them in properly and recognised. I think, maybe they were just not recognised the first couple of time. I'll have another go later, I've only tried once.
If I push to hard, speakers take over. I have to move it for it to play on my earphones. Pretty stuoid . Calling Google today since its my day off.
It has to be just right for it to go through the earphones. Putting it in the jack doesn't cut it because it plays through the speakers. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WAANT TO WATCH PORN.. LOL

ok is working ,i realize that it need to be pushed all the way in lol.
for some reason was not obvious to me, i guess because on my Gnexus don't need to force it that much.
I noticed same thing. So you had to apply more pressure to force it in? I was afraid of breaking the damn thing. I can't get it to recognize any of my headphones but will play out through my lil surround sound system that has a headphone plug. I noticed that the plugs don't seem to go all the way in. I will try to force it in harder..lol.
I need to get some dedicated headphones. Only ones I have are the ones with a built in mic attached. Those won't go in all the way no matter how hard you push. Its likely to break the headphone jack if you keep trying to force them. Ones with mic. attached have 3 rings on the plug. Straight stereo headphones have only 2 rings, which is what I need.
