SYMPTOM:
Hi,
After I upgraded to Dutty's V4 and then later on to DCS's V1.5 (both are great ROMs by the way), I am having difficulties using iNavigator (iGuidance) on my Tilt.
Symptom:
When I start driving, the location on the map does not update as I go. It ONLY updates the second that it enters full screen or exits from full screen (i.e. I click on the screen when it's in full screen mode).
The COM port is set to COM4 and Baudrate is 57600. Is it because iNavigator is not fully compatible with this ROM or radio?

I had this as well with Sleuth's v3 (WM6.1) rom as well, I went back to Sleuth's v1.2 (WM6) and all is good again with iGuidance.

Try baud rate at 4800. See if that helps.
I think v4 is far inferior to v3. I have both and v4 is uninstalled. No map generation and compatibility problems.
J
I've found v4 to be OK on Hermes and Kaiser with WM6.0. I've played with baud and it doesn't matter, from 4800-38400 same refresh rate seen.
so, set it to 4800? will try tomorrow when I drive
vip_snoopy:
Don't bother. It won't help. It has something to do with the internal GPS on the Kaiser and WM 6.1 that iGuidance 4 doesn't like. I had the same issue as you (and others). As a test, I paired my bluetooth GPS to the phone and iG4 worked great.
However, other GPS based software (ie Live Search) works fine in WM 6.1.
I cooked my own ROM from Alex's 3.02 package...

so you said you cooked your own ROM from Alex's 3.02 package, is that WM6.1? could you provide some more details about it?
Yes. 3.02.405.0 ROM base (WM 6.1). It is Alex's v5 Kitchen.
I just got iG4, so I never tested it with any of the ROMS I cooked from WM 6.0. I did however, use iG3.01 sucessfully on all of those WM6.0 ROMs.
I was fortunate to have a bluetooth GPS from my old Hermes and Wizard PPC's, and used it to confirm the problem with iG4 / WM6.1 (3.02 ROM) was related to the internal GPS on the Tilt / Kaiser. iG4 works like a champ with the BT GPS, but craps out constantly when using the built-in GPS.
IMO, the built-in GPS is significantly inferior to a paired BT GPS.
And, BTW, iG4 is slower than iG3.01, probably because of the added POI's and the fact the entire map must be loaded on your storage card. I really miss the maploader program from version 3.
Get a BT GPS and enjoy iG4...it's still the best nav software in my book.

My two cents worth... I have Handymap (South African Version of Papago) and it also was very sluggish, used to update every 300m or so when going at 100kmph. I complained to the vendor, and since then they have released a cab install specifically for the Tytn II.
So it seems to me that the way the internal GPS chats to the software is different than the way an external BT GPS does.
Just to get this thread back on track and see if anyone can help us find a solution. I am also having the same issues that you describe with iGuidance 4. I am able to get a satellite lock quickly, but while driving, the map does not refresh or update unless you tap the screen. The interesting thing about this problem is that the same version iGuidance works incredibly when using a WM6 rom. This problem only occurs when using WM6.1. Additionally, using the 6.1 rom only seems to impact iGuidance and not TomTom.
I did some research on other devices and saw that some people had success using Franson GPSGate, but I am looking for a solution that doesn't require it as it was not required in wm6.
Please do not turn this thread into a debate over which gps application is better or which version of iGuidance is better. Any suggestions as to what may solve this issue would be appreciated.
I found two issued with iG4 and WM6.1
1 - the map gets a fix but doesn't update unless the screen is touched
2 - the TTS in iG4 uses "canned" speech for most commands, and TTS to just say the street names. With 6.1, the TTS engine seems disabled as well.
3 - Just an FYI, there is a reg setting to force iG4 to only use canned speech like the previous versions like iG3 which does speed up the prog. You can also force full TTS which slows the prog more, so the current hi-brid method is a performance balance.
If GPS Gate fixes this, I'd be OK with that for now till a better fix comes along. Anyone have solid information about this? I'm on Sleuth's v1.2 WM6 rom till then, which is a solid rom, snappier than the stock Kaiser which was very good.
My experience with tech support with iNav will be that they will deny the existance of WM6.1 and any issues, then fix it in the next release. That's what they've done year over year. But I still love the prog.

well, although I do have a BT GPS, I'm just lazy to carry another one around since I have an "Internal GPS" for the Tilt. So for the meantime I'll be using TomTom until someone figures how it works out. - Hopefully by then iGuidance 5 will be out
I have seen this as an issue as well...But i actually saw it in one of Dutty's WM6.0 ROMs. I then updated to Schaps 6.0 rom and the problem went away. I've since installed only one WM6.1 rom, the udK 7.0 R1 Vega - WWE | WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0). I was going to try a different rom, but i'm not sure that it will solve my issue after reading this thread.
Rom Doesn't Matter
I've had this exact problem ever since the first cooked WM6.1 ROMs have been made available. I have tried every radio and almost every WM6.1 ROM and all have the exact same problem as mentioned in this thread.
But a Bluetooth GPS reciever does work so I'm just going to go with that for now since I only use GPS in my car anyway.
Also I registered my program with iNav and there are no updates to the software yet. opefully when there is it will fix the problem.
temporary work around
Ok, I've given up searching for now and believe that the only solution is to use GPSGate as discussed in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862272&postcount=4
GPSGate is not free, but there are alternatives to it out there that haven't been tested yet. I did download the trial of GPSGate and can verify that it does work. It's not too expensive either for just the ppc license.
To use the mortscript script that is discussed in this thread, you do also need to download AstroGPSLauncher which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1870976&postcount=1
It seems as if we are stuck with this until iGuidance can resolve it. The more users that contact them, the better chance we have of getting a fix. However since 6.1 isn't officially released yet, they will more than likely deny the issue.
Heres what iNav support had to say in response to my e-mail
I don't think any of these options will fix the 6.1 compatibility issue...what do you all think?
MY SUPPORT REQUEST...
Hello,
I have Windows Mobile 6.1 on my AT&T Tilt Pocket PC. iGuidance recognizes my internal GPS, but does not automatically refresh the screen. I have to zoom in/out or change something with the screen to get it to refresh. Do you know how I can fix this problem?
THEIR RESPONSE...
There are several possibilities:
1) GPS connection issue : the program is not connected to your GPS and thus unable to update your current position. If it's connected, the arrow/cursor in iGuidance map screen should be in yellow or green. And when you click on view > gpsinfo, you should see the screen w/ NMEA data being updated continuously. If the cursor continues to stay at grey color, this means iGuidance has not been connected to your GPS. If the cursor is red, then this means it has found your GPS but is in the process of locking and searching for satellite signals. The GPS connection indicator information can be found under Section IX step #6 of the iGuidance Installation Guide, and the step-by-step instruction on how to configure and connect iGuidance to your GPS is available under Section VIII step #4 of your iGuidance Installation Guide.
2) Normal program operation: whenever you've just entered an address and click on "nav", the program will automatically enable panning mode. You will need to click on the "X" button at the lower right hand corner to exit the panning mode to see the screen refresh. If you don't manually exit, it will self auto-exit after 40-45 seconds. So if you didn't know how to operate the program and didn't wait for 40-45 seconds, it's likely you will think that the screen is not updating.
3) Program installation: it is also possible that some files were corrupted during installation. You might want to following the uninstall/reinstall instruction in Section II of your iGuidance Installation Guide and reinstall the PPC version.
Tilt is the most popular pocket pc phone used by our customers, so there's no compatibility issue w/ the hardware nor the internal GPS. Most likely, scenario #2 or 3 is the problem.
Has anyone figured out how to get iGuidance 4.0 to work on Windows Mobile 6.1 without spending more money? I know about the GPS Gate trick, but would rather not spend another $20 when iGuidance worked flawlessly by itself on WM6.0.

If you click on my link from two posts above, you'll see that they mention a free alternative called GPSProxy
Hi all, yesterday i've changed the "external gps settings":
COM8 For virtual GPS port and COM 4 as Hardware GPS port, baud 9600.
Today i was using my GPS the first time after the settings descripted before...
The GPS Works, but at regular intervals of 2 sec, then stops for 10 sec (No GPS Found with Tomtom) and works again.....
Now i have 3 questions:
1) Can i solve this WITHOUT an Hard Reset??
2) If i disable the Virtual com port, tomtom DON'T let me choose another COMport (it skips the Comport configuration page) and, when it allows me to select the right port, the COM4 isn't there
3) There are A LOT of comport into "External GPS Settings", some starting with COM..X and others ports named GPD..X ..... What type of ports are??
(Ps: i have already installed tomtom again)
Did you try to disable AGPS?
I have only seen this problem when AGPS is enabled (via advanced config) too
Also the defualt GPS COM ports is 4 and baud rate of 4800 (should be no need to change this) and why mess with external GPS settings when the device has internal GPS?
I have same problem on iGO8 with AGPS enabled.
You guys are right! The A-GPS was ON (strange, i don't remember i've activated it)
If i play with the external gps app is because i would to share the same com port to 2 gps apps.....
BTW when i set the com4 in Hardware port, reopening the app it disappear.
Now i have Agps disabled, External gps app "void" and tomtom don't let me choose the comport (it switch from baud speed to mainscreen)
Hmm, I had no problem at all using GPS at standard settings for:
Igo
TrackMe
GoogleMaps
at the same time!

diamond has disabled agps out of the box.
Hmmm I had no problems the first couple of times I tried iGo when I first got the device. Then I tweaked it, enabled AGPS and all hell broke loose (presumably due to this setting, though not 100% sure since I changed lots of things). Disabled it on my own, trying to back-track, now it's better but I still got problems with GPS lost...
By the way, is there any use setting COM4 to high speeds? Does it reall improve performance?
I had the same problem after flashing the actual rom build from HTC club. I am currently sticking to this one in italian and no problem at all.
P.S.: Just noticed you're from my same city
All ok now, i suppose that if we leave blank the GPS port (no HW port) into first COM screen of external gps app, tomtom skip the comport settings screen, and don't allow you to choose another one.
I've Hardresetted my pda yesterday, and i've seen that out of the box, the diamond has COM4 selected by default.
I don't want to change anything now (i have no time in those days to do another Hard reset) BUT, if you have problems regarding the GPS COM Settings screen in tomtom, try to set the COM4 into GPS PORT (not hardware port) of the "External Gps" app.
hello everyone
i have the same problem of signal GPS lost and coming back after a few minutes of use (i use IGO 8), then lose again, then back again, and so on.
I installed the new flash rom from HTC eclub, (QMR-RUU_Diamond_HTC_FRA_1.93.406.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe)
Even if i disable the a-gps using advance config, the problem is still there.
Do you think that problem comes from that new HTC ROM ?
Any solutions?
NO... I had the same problem on old ROM very rarely and solved with Quick GPS , I will see if the problem persist on new ROM...
I had this disconnecting problem too with Tomtom 7,
now with Bepe 0.98 and radio Radio v1.00.25.07, all is OK, no disconnect at all this morning ( 2 hours of GPS use ).
But I don't know what resolve the problem, Bepe's ROM or the new .07 radio

yes its disabled...
A bit strange, mine works perfectly with iGo, it even updates the position (almost) continuously when in pedestrian mode.
Perhaps you could try an auto detect from your GPS program to reset the link. By the way, what soft are you using?
well im using garmin xt and navigon...garmin display that the program and hardware is com:4
thank u for being patient with me....
I know Garmin works on the Diamond, so I'm running out of ideas... I remember reading that some VOIP programs screw the GPS. Did you install any such program?
If not, what I would do is back up my contacts and calendar and do a hard reset to see if this solves the problem. A bit painful, but will certainly answer the question whether there is something wrong with your hardware or not.
well.. i have changed the rom to karmba version, and it works fine for the last 6 hours..
gps functioning well.
may be the fault was in my previous rom (SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v5-5-Lite)
thank you very much for your help
hey there...
i have a problem with my GPS in my diamond
i installed the SWIFTBL WWE DIAMOND ROM V4.0 - CE OS 5.2.19965 (BUILD 19965.1.2.3) ROM
but now my tomtom cant find any GPS signal and niether can HTC GPS TOOL..
Am i doing anything wrong or is it a problem with the ROM i Upgraded from a Danish ROM
Thanks in advance

Did you do a hard reset AFTER flashing?
yep, it happened to me also, an hard reset should resolve, in any case I suggest you to install the utility "GPSTest" (google to find it).
that program is useful because it is able to "renew" the gps status, after installation just launch it (outside of course) and let the program to automatically check your GPS status (1st time it can take 2 or more minutes), when you see at least 3 sat aligned simply close the program, shutdown the phone (NOT soft reset) and then after reboot launch tomtom and you'll see that it will recognize again the gps module.
bye,
davide
i dont think it is fault that you did not do a hard reset after flashing your rom, neither did i.
You should run the htc gps tool with cold start for a while (3-4 mins minimum), then ur TT can find gps.

The same story here, except that I used GoogleMap. It took a long time for GPS to get a fix and when it did, it found only a few satellites. The reception was also poor with a lot of lagging. And yes, I forgot to make a hardreset after flashing.
I just installed http://www.efficasoft.com/gpsutilities/index_wm_ppc.html and this program got an immediate fix to 12 satellites. I then rebooted and noticed that also GoogleMap was OK now. Why? Someone else may explain.
Untick "Auto search Bluetooth GPS receiver"
Set "COM Port" to COM4.
Set "Baud Rate" to 4800.
hello everybody
im having a very wiered problem since today, i have flashed the new 1.93 NLD stock rom, and the gps decided not to work anymore, i did everything possible, hardresetting, reflashing the rom, but nothing helped, i also installed this HTC tool, and let it running for a while, nothing changed, i deiced to leave google maps runnign for a while, it turned a message saying that my GPS device is having torubles finding a GPS signal.
does that sound familiar to anybody,,, actually what makes it wierede, the programs can see the GPS chip, i mean in tomtom and google maps, but only the device, no signal.
Best regards
Kevin
Always remember to do a hard-reset after installing a new rom.
- I have tried several times that my gps were "stuck". My sollution is the Htc Gps tool (Find it here: http://maritime-billeder.dk/htc-diamond.html). With that you can choose to do a warm or a cold start. This gives the gps chip a kick, and almost always fixes the problem.
Greetings

Hi folks!
I got those **** GPS problems with my TP and worked myself now several days through dozens of related threats. Unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be a "one-best-way" but several (even some contradicting) suggestions... - and no Wikipage so far
After playing now with a lot of suggestions (registry tweak, killing the logfiles, gpsgate / splitter, AstroGPSLauncher, some mortscripts, about 6 different RadioRoms and maybe all baudrates/config combos of 5 different navigation systems) i got now really stuck and kinda frustrated. (Read: Yes, i used the search function!) Maybe i should burn that device - OR - some of you share their GPS configs / fixes / history so that i / we can write together a comprehensive (hopefully leading to a working solution) wikipage
I would be highly interested in:
o Working solution yes or no?
o ROM & RadioROM
o Did u have GPS problems at all? Which ones? No Fix? Slow fix? inaccurate? Jumping around position / loosing the signal each and every second? Lags?
o Could you solve it?
o How?
I hope with some of those working configurations it should be possible to replicate a working device...
Thx in advance!

Thanks to Sleuth for the standartisation hint!
Did you change your Navigating Software to the new ports of the comsplitter with the GPS Signal? I had the same secondly changing signal- no signal, but after installing comportsplitter and changing the settings of the Navigating sw to the new ports there is a constant strong signal there with no lag.... Using ROMeOS 1.51 Ger and Radio 1.02.25.19. I tried nearly all radios, but most of them cause a big battery leak (for my TP)

P.S. I have a fix in nearly 30 seconds, but only after clearing the gps cache with the htc tools. the first fix took about 45 Minutes, but now its at half a minute. I deactivatet agps as recommended in many threats in several forums, but i use quickGPS
Thx for your information! (Sure i changed to the new Comports *g*)
Using ROMeOS 1.60.1 and radio 1.02.25.28 i get a fix in under a minute, just by using QuickGPS included in the rom.
Same radio configuration with Da_G 2.03 (see sig). VisualGPSce can fix outside in < 1 minute. TomTom needed to be "kick started" by another pgm but could see the GPSID natively (gave the built-in gps option in device configuration). After omitting the Flags value=2 (GPSID driver is unloadable) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID then TomTom was able to warm start the GPS in < 1 minute as well without needing a "kick start".
Currently, TomTom updates the display 3-4 times/sec and has little if no lag (cross streets on map pass by at the same time as the car does at 40mph). The only thing I continue to suffer from is "speed lag" whereby TomTom doesn't track with the speedometer when I slow down to 0mph. This can result in the car display ending up in the intersection on the map when the car is stopped (then it "snaps back"). I'm going to see how TomTom 6.x deals with this so I can get an apples to apples comparison with my Tilt which didn't suffer from speed lag.
Could I suggest Standardizing our tests?
What's your initial fix time using VisualGPSCE outside with a clear view of the sky (no kick starting allowed, just fire up VisualGPSCE and start a timer)? Set VisualGPSce to COM4: at 115200 bps (speed doesn't really matter as long as its >4800).
The first time you get a fix on any given day should be the one you report as this will be the longest. The reason is that QuickGPS ephemeris data will be used which gives approximate satellite positions. Subsequent fixes (try it!) will be lightning quick because you will be using actual ephemeris data downloaded from the satellites which gives precise sky locations for the time duration that the birds remain visible.
I am using NATF 3.2 ROM and 1.08.25.20M1 Radio. I use OCN8 and it gets <1 minute fix. No changes done to comp port or baud rate. However, it takes tweaking got get fix for Google Maps in little over 1 minute. I do experience LAG on OCN8 though.
I used to use Elice RC2 and 1.08.25.20M1 ROM. LAG was very very minimal but took more time to fix.
Here's the installation cab for VisualGPSce btw. It's freeware.

Yep VGPSCE is a classic tool
http://dl.htc.com/downloadfiles/Rom...ned_Raphael_52.44.25.24_1.08.25.20M1_Ship.exe
I flashed this ROM and it works perfect for me.
my config (signature) fixes up under 15 seconds when moving, <1minute when standing on one place. QuickGPS disabled, PagePool 32MB
For me prior to updating my ROM I could not get a GPS fix no matter what I did. Some of the newer ROMs use new GPS Drivers. This must have fixed my problem. I tried others older ROMS and no Fix, I tried a few Radios and no Fix.
I'm using LantisOS Rom, and the .32 ATT Radio. My GPS works with AGPS enabled or disabled, it doesn't matter.
I still have some lag, but its not too bad.
Here is what I do to get a fix.
1. I use QuickGPS to download the data.
2. I Launch Chartcross GPS Test to get a fix usually in under a minute if I havent used it for awhile. If I used it earlier in the day i can get a fix in like 5 seconds.
3. I either close or minimize GPS Test and launch my GPS program. (Google maps, Live Search, & iGuidance all work for me)
P.S. I do not use HTC GPS Tool as I've never got it to work. I have VisualGPSce which is good for viewing some data, but it seems that Chartcross GPS Test gets a fix way faster.
I added a short, unprofessional Wiki Page so that we can collect this information more efficiently...

Please feel free to add your data and improve the page in language, style, structure etc.
For me totally not understandable: The first evening i tried with Romeos 1.704 & GPS it was impossible to get a fix. I cleared cache with HTC GPS Tool and did all the other things, tried with visual gps, gps mouse, glopus and others but i didnt get a fix, even after running 3 hours in the night the sattelites remained red.
next day, when i tried to work on this problem in the same room, same place, i had a fix in a few seconds....

P.S. My Radio is version 1.10.25.25
I was starting to have problems with AT&T stock ROM (1.95.502.5 WWE) & radio 1.02.25.32. All I had to do was disable A-GPS, use quick GPS to download data and then use GPS test to lock on to the birds. Also I have noticed that it becomes a lot quicker to get a signal without a case. Using a metal case sometimes it would become impossible for me to get a fix.
guy's
I remember 2 things that are importand(that I dont know how to setup in the PRO):
1. how the GPs handles static situations(dont remember the name) but the lag i get when i'm static or in a slow motion(traffic) is exactly what happend when i changed my BT GPS settings back in the day.
it was called "Static Navigation" : will "freeze" the position at very low speed to cancel out the drifting resulting from the natura "inaccuray" of GPS - should be disabled for pedestrian use - see below for details

Just got my Vario IV yesterday and quickly flashed mrvanx's Elite Project rc3 rom.
Stuck in traffic this morning I noticed that any gps app i tried would find the internal GPS, find satellites, lock, then disconnect. It kept doing this for any gps app.
I tried disabling a-gps and the problem vanished, all the apps worked properly and maintained a GPS lock for around 20 minutes.
Its been fine sofar since then...

2. Track Smoothing : wrill smoothen the track to remove the "jumps" resulting from the natural "inaccuracy" of the GPS system (10/15 meters) - disabled by default

no one know the NEMA codes to change the GPS's unit settings?
Vodafone Touch Pro
ROM: 1.90.162.5 GER
Radio: 1.02.25.19
I tried all
...tweaks with advanced config tool
...registry tweaks
nothing helped.
Switched to Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 (free download on their website inkl. maps for europe to test for 30 days) and thried that.
Works perfect. Bought it afterall...
GPS fix in about 3 - 15 seconds depending on the location (NO QuickGPS in use) // no more GPS lags.
Really strange...
after trying a lot of radioroms, tweaks etc. i decided to go back to the initial ROM of my t-mobile branded Vario 4: 1.02.25.19
Guess what? Instant fix. Great reception. No tweaking needed...
OK, battery life is worse than other roms... but GPS is fully working! The difference is not big - its HUGE! With all the other roms, gps was just unuseable (fixes around 20mins or never, disconnections each and every second etc.)!
This brings up a question: Did anybody research the gps related differences between several roms? It would be great to know why 1.02.25.19 is such a difference on our (t-mobile) device(s?)....
Hi,
first of all: I also have the GPS-fix-problem
Now my question:
In this Thread I found this link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GPS%20Issues
and at the bottom I found this link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/JCEspi2005 GPS Lag Fix Raphael.cab
I installed this cab, but nothing has changed...so I'm wondering what this cab should have done? Or does I have to change something after installation?
pls help ^^
Greetings
Chris
BTW: I'm from Germany, sorry for any mistakes
Hi,
I have a unbranded normal HTC Touch Diamond with the NAKED 2.03 ROM and RADIO 23.
Moreover I use Tomtom7 and Google Maps.
When in GMaps, the Assisted GPS (which is switched of in Advanced Config) gives the approximate position to Google Maps and after 1-2 Minutes I get a GPS fix on top. In tomtom however, there is not even a approximate location based on the GSM even if I turn A-GPS on. Moreover, GPS doenot work if A-GPS is turned on.
So I wanted to try QuickGPS to reduce the time of the fix (now about 2 Minutes), but it was not included in the Naked ROM I am using, and after browsing for two weeks, and trying some QuickGPS.cab files, they never run but only tell something of not being certified.
Even after reading the 100 pages of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888 I still havent been able to fina working version (CAB) of QuickGPS to install on the Diamond and have not found a solution working for others, or did someone succeed in installing it??
Thanks

I have never had a problem with QuickGPS. But then again, I've always used cooked ROMS. Perhaps this is what you have to do...
As one last suggestion, all QuickGPS does is add the attached file to your Windows folder. You could try to add it directly from http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee.
