hi all,
i need ask some question regarding direct push mail.
can i only set push mail with outlook? i am on hotmail can i use push mail for hotmail?
how does the push mail works? i need have internet or GPRS coverage all the time or i only need GPRS whenever i receive new mail?
need notification of new mails in my hotmail and i am not sure how to deal with it.
i am from singapore and having singtel as service provider.
thanks
You can do push mail with just your X1 and a hotmail/live account. Once you setup the hotmail account on the X1, set the schedule parameter to receive items "As they arrive". You only get push mail with one hotmail account. Other's are checked every 5, 10, 15, etc. minutes.
I believe as long as you have "internet" coverage from your provider, you should be good. I'm in the U.S, so I don't know the specifics of your country.

If you have more than one hotmail/live account set up on your X1, only one of them can be push email. The other one(s) has to be synced on a scheduled basis (5,10,15, etc. minutes).

In order for push email or scheduled email downloads to work, you need to be constantly connected whether it be Edge or 3G (WiFi too). That should be no problem since you also need those same connections to get phone calls The way it works here (in U.S.), if you're getting phone service, you're also getting some type of data connection (internet), though, at different speeds.

alright. thanks.
got ur msg through.
sorry friend, just a last question.
if i have a 1GB internet data usage covered in a month, so i will on my GPRS/internet settings the whole time awaiting for new email.
so with the GPRS/internet on all the time, does it consume my data usage at all if i did not use it to surf any website and there is no new email received?
or it will only consume my data usage only when a new email arrives? coz i only intend to apply this service for mail notification.
thanks so much
I don't know the specific numbers, but I'm pretty sure that push email alone will not waste your 1GB bandwidth limit. I suspect it won't even put a dent in it.
There are programs you can install that will monitor your data usage. I don't use any (I have unlimited which on AT&T in the U.S. means 5GB/month ). I would go to a software site and search for one if I were you.

so i need to on my data connection all the time to activate rush mail right?
now just need to know if it is consuming my usage when it is on the whole day but without receiving any new mail.
thanks

If u just want to get the header of u'r emails that will consuming just a small volume data connection. for ilustration i used 125 MB for push and pull 6 accounts email and that's more than enough. I still can use for IM (palringo always on 24 hours), weather update, stock exchange update. but the trully mater is the consumsion of the battery , 100% is just enough for 10 hours. and I should charge my battery again.

I don't know how much data push email utilizes when it's idle. But, by it's nature, it has to be using something...probably very insignifigant though.
What I would do is set everything the way you WANT to do it in your X1 (push email, download size, etc). Then monitor your data usage for several days. If it looks as if you're going to exceed your data plan, then make the necessary changes.
agree with ur suggestion.
really thanks alot with ur replies
i'm back with another problem,
now i've subscribe to internet service on my phone, i only have 1 email account in my phone which is my hotmail, i set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive already, but i still am not notified when i have a new mail.
i still need to manually press the Send/Receive option to sync my mailbox to know that there is new mails.
pls enlighten.
thanks
How can I add push mail every 3 hours to my outlook?
The program supplied by my provider is only real-time and it drains my battery..
outlook im not sure, but for hotmail i think u can choose the sync frequency to every 3 hours.
but my problem is i set it to as items arrive already but i still dun get notification on new email from my hotmail. i still need to use menu>send/receive manually everytime to update my mailbox for new mails.
any1??
If you want TRUE push e-mail, I think you need to set up Outlook on your phone to do it.
loyjwe, I replied to your other post in the other xperia section here about setting up push e-mail with Gmail, and it works amazingly perfect.
Cheers
now not only my hotmail is not push, i constantly receive a tmail.exe error.
wat is that?
i connecting to hotmail with Windows Live and frequency as items arrive and always.
how come no notification. still need manually send/receive.
arghhhh

Is anyone having connection problems with IMAP on 6.1.I can downlaod fine but it will not send. the only way that I can get this to work is if I delete the settings and then set up the email again. im using the correct setting found on here it will work for a few weeks but then all of a sudden it will stop sending oit the messages. They just store in my outbox when i click send and receive I get a connection error which i already know works fine.
It just stops sending all of a sudden for no reason. maybe its a Gmail prob I think. Any one have this happening as well?
I use Tmobile USA internet plan. the POP3 works fine but I prefer the IMAP for better sync options with my folders.
thanks

Gmail problem unfortunately, also happens on my computer once in a while.
Same exact problem over here. I'm gonna call T-mobile this week.
It's happening all the time. I guess it could be that smtp.gmail.com uses a different trusted CA and that this CA isn't trusted on the WM 6.1 ROM? Alcaline, any ideas? (highly unlikely)
I didn't notice until Friday, and I had been sending email as usual for over a month and it was all sitting in my outbox.

Hi,
Shure it could be that a certificate is needed.. But if it works sometimes?

It works no times.
I can only imagine it never worked, although I didn't notice. I mean, it must be a different cert; but for them to use a CA that isn't trusted by Windows Mobile seems pretty silly. Let me know if you need recon.
[UPDATE]
Alright. Looks like several ports are widely reported as blocked when using certain plans. I assume the plan I have is one of these plans. Others claim that "routing" your email through t-mobiles smtp server works. Although, with my plan, I do not have any email addresses attached to my account.
Reportedly smtp.gmail.com uses three ports to route to their smtp server(s): 25, 465 and 587. Tested telnet connections to smtp.gmail.com:25 and smtp.gmail.com:587 worked, smtp.gmail.com:465 failed.
Regardless of my findings, both working ports don't work from my phone; so I attribute this to t-mobile. I'll call them, but expect their answer will be something to the effect of "we block communication over those ports for people without the $15 data plan."
FYI: My service is from work... I swapped my SIM into my S730 from a blackberry. The account has the BES/BIS feature, but no true data plan.
Use m.gmail.com via a web browser to compose emails.
I've played with the port setting and still nothing I just deleted my account on my phone and wet it up again it will work for about 1 week then it just stops again. i do have the $20 data plan. I switched back to the damn POP3 for right now. IMAP works great for my desktop.
hopefully the support will be available soon or someone comes up with something.
Thanks,
For the first week I have owned the Tilt, Xpress mail seemed to work fine. It would push every bit of mail through. I had it set up for both Yahoo and Gmail. Over the course of the following week (up to date) I have made some minor modifications to the phone, and am not sure if they're responsible for the demise of my Xpress Mail service.
What I've done so far is to install Kaiser Tweak and am using almost every advised feature (Hiding SIM contacts never sticks though. after a reset it always goes back to default). I have also downloaded Comm Manager from here, because I was having bad 3G dropouts so this comes in very handy. Outside of those things, that's about it.
But for some reason, my Tilt has been displaying some very sketchy behavior, but the worst offender at the moment is the push mail not working. Even stranger though, is that when I sent myself an email from my Gmail account to test it, rather than the mail going into the yahoo folder, it went into the Gmail folder ?
At one point last night (it's vague, I was very tired) I had to reset the Yahoo password upon request of the program because it said that it needed to be updated. So I did that, and afterward, it seemed to work again. But now, as I'm testing by sending mail to myself, nothing is happening. Well, almost nothing.. .Something peculiar happens. When I send the mail off, I notice that the Tilt's screen gets brighter, as if an event is happening. This happens about 15-20 seconds after sending an email to the Yahoo account, and happens every time, so it's not a coincidence.
I'm still within my 30 day trial for the Tilt, and I'm getting frustrated with it, thinking about getting a (gasp) iPhone or perhaps a Treo 750 if it functions any better. I really want to like the Tilt but for one thing, I am not getting any HSPA service here in NYC (where I thought I would) and 3G is piss poor where it counts, so isn't even worth it. It's why I got an unlimited data plan, but now I'm thinking about canceling it.
I got the phone on the 8th and would like to sort this out before the 30 days is up. Can anyone please assist me with this ?
Thanks,
doug
By the way, I'm running Win Mob 6.0 and the original ATT ROM that came with it last week.
CE 5.2.1622 (build 18128.0.4.4)
And, I'm not sure that this has anything to do with it but (or is useful info) when I open the Comm Manager, the Microsoft direct push button is greyed out and is not able to be toggled. I also have 3G set to off when I'm in my house. I've tried a soft boot, but that didn't do anything. I'm about to do a hard boot now.

Now the client is really bugging out. When I go to menu > tools> new account, all it does is go to the Yahoo Inbox (which is empty always). I can also access this menu through Options, then click on New Account but then nothing happens at all ? I just deleted my Yahoo account to see if I could create a new one from there, but nothing happens.
This is not boding well for the Tilt. I'd really appreciate some help. Things were just fine when I got it the first week. Is there a way to restore the phone to factory defaults and such ?
Doug
Also, when I hit "send/receive" it says error synchronizing very quickly on the bottom. And if I try it again, I get an error message "S7900: Another update operation is currently in progress"
I had the same problem, however so did my wife. We both have Kaisers and were emailing instead of chatting all the time. Our emails sudenly stopped updating automaticaly. Happened on both phones so I called the provider. Turns out there was an update that killed the push function from hotmail, gmail, and a couple others. ATT suggested I download the BB Connect until the error has been corrected. Been about 3 weeks now and no fix made.
Hello all
I am experiencing a bit of trouble with getting my emails on my phone and hoping some of you out there might know a solution. I gave up on trying to set up push email for now and just set up my mail as a separate account.
This was my first problem, because on an old 2003 device I had I didn't need to have a separate account, just sync with activesync and outlook and that would be that. You could then send/receive without activesync no bother but on WM6.1 it doesn't seem to copy your account settings across from Outlook, so the only way to get email on the move is by way of a separate account. The ideal solution for me is to have one account on the Diamond for checking my Googlemail, that will send/receive on the move, but also backup to PC when connected via Activesync.
Now that I have gone down the separate account route on my Diamond, I am experiencing two further problems. The first one I can't seem to sync the emails pulled down on the Diamond to my PC. The second problem, and this is the most annoying, is that everytime I send/receive (I have it set up for every two hours) it deletes the previously received emails off my phone. I have changed all manner of settings on phone and with my mail provider (googlemail), and it still deletes any 'old' emails off my phone and just keeps ones that have been received since the last connection to the server.
I know this is a long post but felt it had to be to get my problem down correctly, hopefully somebody out there can help?!?
Yesterday morning suddenly couldn't send yahoo emails (could still received them). I've never had a problem before.
I reset the email settings and still didn't work just got the error message 'check network coverage etc'
Only wouldn't work on GPRS, fine on wireless so I figured isp wasn't happy with smtp settings. I tried port 465 and 2525 on the original yahoo settings but no luck so looks like Three (3) have blocked access to the yahoo smtp server - thanks Three! :<
Have now changed to smtp-mbb.three.co.uk and I'm able to send again, might work for you if you come up against the same thing.
The smtp-mbb.three.co.uk server works, but pretty slowly and I've got a nasty feeling I may get charged per mail so I'm keeping a very close eye on my bill.
Anyone else experienced the same thing in the last couple of days or have any other sugggestions?
(I'm on WM 6 not 6.1 so not the secondary server issue btw)

Hey guys,
I have an unlocked HD7 from Bell and I'm using it under Rogers right now. I have a problem where my incoming SMS are behind by 5 hours. (They come right away but the stated time on them is off by 5 hours).
I tried fiddling with the timezone settings to match the times but then it messes up my calendar times.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Joey
Anyone figure this out?
I am 2 hours out (thinking it has to do with where the Bell SMS center is located)
hoping someone can figure out a fix
I am in Calgary, AB, Canada and using Fido if that makes a difference. I am thinking I could update to a different ROM, anyone know if that will work and what ROM I should choose?
thanks in advance
This is a known issue at Microsoft i mentioned it to them when i went there for an interview as well the only way to fix it is by doing the following.
1) goto Settings> Date & Time>
2) Turn off "set automatically"
3) Set Time Zone to "UTC Coordinated Universal Time"
4) Manually enter the correct time in the "Time" field
5) Adjust the date if you have to.
And Save and restart your phone this should fix the issue its not an actual fix but it works.
Well I took your advice and changed the timezone to UTC - 03 (then manually set the time)
Seems to have done the trick; will just have to remember to adjust for time zones I guess
thanks
Wait; spoke too soon
that messed up all the times for my email, the emails are all time stamped 3 hours in the future.
Oh well, guess I will just never have that "Perfect" phone.
Just annoying as this HD7 is probably the best phone I have ever had but there are so many of these annoyances...

What email are you using on the device? Outlook or just a standard Hotmail / Live acct? I will be unlocking my Bell HD7 very soon to use it on Rogers as well and I do not use Outlook so if the fix above sorts out the TEXT issue and does not bother my "Hotmail / Live" email then I will be a happy man however... I dont really use my email on my phone that much anyways so I guess as long as this fixes the SMS timestamp issue then I should be fine.
At any rate... If you could let me know anyways I would appreciate it.
***EDIT*** I tried this today after unlocking my Bell HD7 and running it on Rogers and it did not work at all. Now instead of the time stamp being 4 hours slow, it is now 2 hours fast using Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). Anyone else know how to get a proper time stamp on SMS after unlocking and using on a different network?
I just gave up and am now licing with a 4 hour tamestamp issue on my text.
my email, calendar and everything else works so this is just something I guess I have to live with. Not that bad
Email via hotmail & yahoo using the WP7 email program
My EVO does the same thing. Only when my cousin sends MMS he's on cricket. It has also done it when the towers messed up in my area.

Ya... Same with me. I gave up as well and am now living with the timestamp issue on my texts, mms, etc... My outgoing texts go out at the right time and are being received by the recipients at the right time but when I receive a text it is out of wack.
What I dont understand is that when I get a text and I get the "toast notification" at the top of my phone, the time stamp there is CORRECT but when I open my messages and look at the actual message itself it is out of wack. WEIRD!!!
Does yours do this as well?
