I am one of most worried xperiencers with this news, and I want to do something now. I am worried because
- My X1 is just new
- I bought it for $799(Probably, I am the first guy to buy this in my city)
- I don't want to Sell this out at least few months from now and move to X2
- The "flattery" panel interface just not good as expected. I still love the optical key pad.
- I am feeling like cheated by SE as they just did a big hype on this as a marketing strategy, which is OK but they should continue support for this, instead going on violently into the market releasing a new phone with almost same features(I didn't see noticeable changes b/w X1 and X2 except camera), to show their marketing skills again.
- I didn't get many updates or many of the issues, which I thought are real issues, are not yet solved.
- I am equally comfortable with SPB 3.5 with carousel view(Even they did a good job)
There are more.
I have a question in mind that "Am I the only one worrying about this?". Please add your comments.
Thanks.
my bet is that you did not read the topics in the x1 forum, not even the first page
Yes, you must check this forum thoroughly. I bet many if not most of the people here are running WM6.5.1 on their X1's right now. It may not be "official" but it's working just as well.
I have been using the Cristian Clean 3.001 ROM and it feels like I just bought a new phone. I even modified the page pool to 16MB and the X1 is slightly peppier too!

I am not worrying about. Why do so many people buy the X1 with the assumption that SE will offer an upgrade to WM6.5? What did you pay for? An XPERIA X1 with all the accessories and functions label on the spec sheet...nothing more...and arguably nothing less. You guys are too wishful of thinkers.
With that said, XDA offers a GREAT selection of WM6.5 ROMs to choose from. So even if SE did offer a WM6.5 update, XDA will always offer a better one.
READ THE OTHER THREADS ABOUT THIS TOPIC,PLEASE.
NO ONE PROMISED YOU FREE STUFF.
YOU GOT A DEVICE WITH A FULL OS.
STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT LACKING SOMETHING YOU WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO GET IN THE FIRST PLACE.
THE X1 IS ONE YEAR OLD, 6.5 WAS RELEASED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. THINK ABOUT IT FOR A SECOND
SE NEVER MARKETED XPERIA WITH THE 6.5. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT?
IF YOU WANT 6.5 GO TO THE ROM SECTION AND DOWNLOAD IT.
READ THE THREADS IN THE FORUM, PLEASE

I bought x1 i think first in my city (from Germany, it has not started selling here) i could say in my country too,(small country, support 0, not official se service, they have with privat company contrat to repair, and in most time phone ends in other countries for repair and you wait for....) but i bought it because of course i like it, and i know that there is big support here on xda.
all oficcial SE (all 3 of them) roms were lousier than cooked. I had fear of cooked roms but after reading, and reading and jailous how others are satisfied with their new roms, i courage and flash my x1.Now im happy, and when i see that i dont depend on SE mercy i dont break had whith their updates.
So there is 6.5 ROM(s) for Experia 1,take your time, read this forum, find what you want, and you will be satisfied with your x1.
i can suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=564028
Orelsi, why are you loosing had..easy, man just ask...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=471
=)
Also, because you don't know how to flash a rom, I suggest you start here:
http://www.xperiax1.net/forum/how-to...10-15mins.html
Also, here are video tutorials:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
Just so you know, backing up your rom is not necessary unless you want to flash back to your original stock rom. However, you can download stock roms from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
However, I HIGHLY suggest this rom:
http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=536551&highlight=pctech+4u
Thought is may not be windows mobile 6.5, it is much, much faster than the stock rom and all 6.5 roms I have tried. Also, the start menu and all the other menus have been made bigger and more finger friendly.
Orelsi, sometimes your responses are more of a nuissance than the people asking questions they shouldn't ...

man, what a great site!
So, I grabbed a Cingular 8125 aka wizard locked G4, refurb'd direct from cingular for 49.99 (after taking back the new SLVR L7 @ 149+tx = $162.)
Crazy how the next day the price went up to 79.99! lucky huh!?
Anyway what a great phone (till I catch a deal on a 8525 lol ) paired with slingbox, I feel like the "king of the world!"
ok well maybe not, but....
*side note* anyone considering buying a slingbox:Bestbuy and circuit city both have the slingbox pro for 199.99! thats like getting a free HD conect cable...
I could use some advice (instead of flashing with every rom and not having a phone during those times, I only have this one and I would like to find a stable rom) could you guys give feedback on some of the roms I could use on my locked G4

There are many wizard chef's with many delicacies for your device. Faria's roms are typically jam-packed with lots of things you might need. Anything made from mun-rus (ie. xplore series, NotTooSmart) is typically stable. Other roms worth considering are NBD, underground, Most Beautiful, Business Edition etc.
There are too many roms to choose, it really is a matter of personal opinion. Most of the common roms are listed on the wiki page.
Good luck choosing.
fastest is superrom1.1 but not much in it (depends if you use everything in the others how much this matters)
anything by molski is fast and good compromise between the heavy loaded (and somewhat slower) faria releases and the superrom1.1
wm6 is slower than 2.26 but obviously newer, and that's where the chefs are working nowadays.
just decide what you want in it then shortlist the roms available
slept a few hrs...
Now back to these threads, that go 80pages in 2 days!!! lol
Thanks for the feedback bwesty.
Funny too, I re-worded my post and removed all the hip lingo... (Chef, cookin, etc.)
I didnt want you guys taking me for someone who actually knows what the heck they are doing. hahaha but Im getting there.
bbobeckyj, I did sucessfully upgrade my device (about 2 weeks ago) to a custom WM6 Rom (forgot which one) with out a glitch in about 10 mins.
it was when I tried another rom ( the first one was nice n clean, but no apps) for some reason I thought I could just cook the rom without following the same instructions, that I ran into a slight problem (scared thie **** outta my self, since the phone was like 2 days old....
but Im back to confront my fears!!!
Thanks for the help friends!
I'll Keep ya's posted

I agree with the comment about Molski being a good balance... used his final 2.26 for a long time, but now shifted to 3.3. It is crossbow-ish in look and feel, but since it's still WM5, very stable and decently responsive.
With the battery hack -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1140163#post1140163 -- I am averaging about 2-3% drain/hour, so a full day plus.
Also, you may want to play with the radio ROM you use. I'm using 2.61 and getting good results. Others not so good.
Right now I have a really workable device, almost can get over my jones for a new phone (HTC Advantage)... Ooops, it's still there. But anyway, having a smooth-running phone is great.
Seems Im going to have to change the radio rom also...
turns out I been missing calls, and a few voice mails also werent recieved till the next night! (sux my friend was outside waiting for me for an hour @ 2am )

Hi
Hi Nancy....

Still a bit confused
I have searched all over the internet, and understand "Wings" is some kind of S730 AKA, but cannot discern if the Phone was store bought as "wings" or did you have to first flash the ROM to make it say "Wings" in the device Information Model name: field.
This is what my HTC S730 says:

I have upgraded the official ROM from the HTC website.
I see on the first "sticky" in the Wings forum that I can install WM6.1
If this is possible, I think it looks like a very interesting option for me.
Your phone is actually a HTC S730, code name "Wings". The OS on it is not relevant. You have come to the right place, dacheeta
edit: I see that you're from the netherlands. Please allow me to point you at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452397
Thank you spone1
After searching for quite some time, I did find one reference to Wings, its said it had a modified ROM to turn it into a "PocketPC" type phone.
Is this accurate?
Believe it or not I walked all day in my city, Amersfoort, to find the only phone with an English OS, I was going to get the HTC TynII but it was only in the Dutch Language.
Now~ I know you can change all that so I would have gotten the HTC TynII.
and I do want an all English OS, to simplify things.
However this October I can finally renew my 2 year contract and get a new phone, and hopefully theres something better than the TynII, maybe the Touch HD Pro, well I'll keep watching the reviews.
Thank you for your help, I have been at a point where I almost clicked "Next" to convert my ROM for the 6.1 OS, but chickened out, I guess I just need to know what are the reasons for me to do that Pro/Cons?
I have read that too, flashing a modified TytnII rom onto the S730 but I wasn't sure if it would be sensible. For instance, it has no touchscreen. And imo a touchscreen is pretty much necessary for a touchscreen OS. Imagine controlling Windows without a mouse. It works, but it's a pain. I must admit that I never tried it on the phone.
So you're now at 6.0? I'd really recommend upgrading it to 6.1, even if you just try it. I like the new homescreen very much. All important information in a single view. If you don't like it, just flash it back to the stock rom again. No gain, or pain, or how do they say that?
If I understand you correctly, you spent an entire day in Amersfoort visiting all the phone shops out there searching for that single phone which carried the English language? Damn you're one of a kind A friend of mine got a S740 "Rose" with his new contract. It's just slick. It will be my next phone.
No I never intended to flash a TynII ROM on my phone, rather wanting a TynII with English OS. so Settled with the S730 because it had English OS.
Well isn't it more complicated than that? flashing it? I mean don't I have to first turn it into the "Wings" (PPC ready) and then upgrade to WM6.1?
It isn't all that complicated. Forget about the PPC thing. First you will need to flash a piece of software that allows the S730 to run non-htc-approved ROMs, such as Alcalines rom or my deviation of it. This piece of software is called HardSPL. Compare it to the computers bios.
After that is done you can flash any ROM to it, HTC Original 6.0 or a custom 6.1 ROM (that is intended for the S730 of course). Compare it to the operating system on your computer.
But hey, if you don't feel comfortable doing it I won't push you into it. You'll just miss out on quite a nice upgrade.
Well I got my first tilt the day it was released, had it until Christmas when I got an iphone. The iphone was cool until the "cool" factor wore off. Sold it unlocked for $500 on eBay the night before the new one was announced LOL, anyway I purchased another tilt because of the usefulness of the phone. I have had it for 3 weeks and am still debating whether to try a cooked rom or not. I typically text on the device, I will most likely get the $15 dollar unlimited data plan and from there will use the 3g internet frequently and get email ever couple of hours.....why should I use a cooked ROM.
I feel confident flashing it but Im worried about the Radio's and what ROMS come with them or dont.
Currently Im using the ATT ROM w/o all the BS they try to install for you. It works....that's about all it does atm.
Thanks in advance!
Don't do it man. Once you start flashing, it will never stop. Much like the tale of Goldilocks, you will end up looking for the one that is 'just right'. This usually means finding the closest fit and tweaking it to your needs. This or cooking one of your own.
P.S. My hat is off to the cooks out there. I have barely scratched the surface on cooking my own, and it is a daunting amount of knowledge and wisdom to absorb.
You'll find a good cooked rom is 100x faster than the ATT rom.

Please don't post this kind of stuff in the Rom Development forum. If you must post this kind of useless thread, please do it in the general forum. In addition to being against forum etiquette, it also clutters the forum and very much frustrates the people who are actually doing rom development. To borrow a humorous picture from AllTheWay, because it makes me laugh:

Just try it and see if you like it. The danger is very, very, very small if you're flashing correctly. Flashing 2, 3 or even 6 roms in a night won't hurt.
Also, read the appropriate thread for the answer to the radio question.
Why should you use a cooked rom? Because the raw ones will give you salmonilla poisioning.

Lmao! And no one can convince you to try a cooked ROM But be warned. IT is an addiction. Flash it or lose it
The addiction wears off once you release 20+ ROMs of your own to the public for the same device. I guarantee that you'll be visiting this place alot less...
That is until you get your next new toy, which will make you use someone else's ROM that didn't quite meet your needs, so you wind up making your own ROM again and the cycle begins anew
Believe me you DON'T want to use a cooked ROM. AT&T knows how to make quality stuff. You don't wantsome hackers to have claimed to make it better.
Basically Don't Its not worth your time.

Good to see you around once again
Hey guys,
I got my Xperia in early October last year, and it was my first encounter with Windows Mobile. Like many of you I've had mixed feelings towards this device. I do think it can be a great phone - if you put some effort into it and with the help of the xda-developers.
But I took some time and wrote down everything that has annoyed me over the past year with WinMo and the Xperia. I thought it would be interesting to see if there are other Xperia owners out there that share my opinion
All That is Bad About Windows Mobile
So, is this article a load of cr*p or are my objections valid? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!
/Lars
Ì think you summed up about everything I know I hate - and love - about WM. Amen brother!
i agreed with you, but i prefer winmo 6.5 over the iphone, the blackberry and the e71.
Totally agree, and I started in somewhat the same situation.
The X1 is my first experience with Windows Mobile phones, even smartphones for that matter, and I found it horrible in the beginning. The only thing that has made it even harder for me than you is I use Apple pc's so I can't update my stock-rom without lending someones Windows pc and sure as hell can't try stuff like switching rom's!
i agree about the xperia bits and windows mobile 6.1 - but windows mobile is changing - the 6.5.2 builds with the buttons at the bottom are a huge improvement on the 6.1 we have at the moment and the Marketplace will also change Windows Mobile for the better
Agreed on most of it (99%) and laughed a lot, but FRACKING LOL'D at this:

......but don't forget that there is a reason for the absence of those features... Why?...
...because.....
IT'S A GAMING MACHINE!
I agree too .. problem is there is no perfect device.
iPhone quite limits the software. No opera mini. No AVI playback.
WebOS and Android are still a bit young. We must wait. And in the time of X1, WebOS was not known and Android was just an infant.
WM plainly sucks, but most things can be fixed and it is actually possible to live with it.
Read the list but can't share all of it. I'm not very sensitive to GUI aspects because the critical items are one-timers mostly and you don't touch them every day. My point is that all the other fancy stuff on the market like iPhone and Android are basícally nice as well but they still are islands in a productivity kind of view. I need my windows/exchange connections and frankly, WiMo does the job. I need my particular range of software and I can get them for WiMo, I can't get that stuff for iPhone. An iPhone for me would just be "a phone" with web access but that's not what I carry that device for. I got my Spb 3 and got rid of the panelmanager (never found out what the heck I shall do with it anyway), got my street/air navigation stuff and my ERP system to run on it and I'm happy. I'm not after Facebook, I don't need strange themes every day, I don't even need weather because that's what I see when I don't stare at the screen but lift my neck (move muscles) and watch out of the window, the ones made of glas. Sometimes I think that I'm "just a happy customer" because that thing does exactly what I was expecting when I put my money on the table. Most of the things on your list I never even came across when using mine on a day-to-day basis. But I use my SE to do the job, it's not my job to do something an the SE.
Cheers - Susan
Well put!
+1 for "totally agree"...
all the frustrations ~and yet all the love too ...
Was my first WinMo too -and yes it took several weeks of trial and error(s)
Had it not been for XDA I'd have given up, but thanks to all the great people and stuff here (and my interest /patience /application) I now love my Xperia
Couldn't live without it
Thanks for all the excellent feedback! I was afraid the article was too long for anyone to be bothered reading it
Looks like you both agree and disagree with me, and that most of you have a love-hate relationship with WinMo as well.
@orelsi - do you follow Battlestar Galactica too? Frakking awesome show!
Great article. I agree with all of the minor irritants about default WinMo interface. Since I never really use MS built-in features and rely almost exclusively on 3rd Party (prettier) apps I don't really care about ugly touch-unfriendly interface.
However, for the uninitiated I can see that this could seem like a very large barrier to entry. I would have thought MS would have done to the old WinMo interface what they did with DOS and Win95/98. Hid it underneath a much prettier shell and NEVER see those old 3.1 style menus (unless a REALLY want to).
When people see my phone sometimes they ask about it and usually I can't recommend they buy it, unless they are pretty tech-savvy. Which I think is a little sad because I love my phone so much, and I wish everyone could get a device as capable as mine, but instead they settle for cruder devices.
Oh well, I am happy with mine, and maybe 6.5 and 7 will bring a little more for me to play with and recommend to others.

they would not say if there will be or not, its the right thing to do, if they do, it would hurt sales, especially if they are going to give the x1 the new panel manager
about the new panel manager; lets hope they do even if its wm 6.1, because to have 2 xperias that cannot run all the panels is not a good plan for a company...just imagine windows releasing vista= .exe and windows 7= .exg | OS X 10.5= .dmg and OS X 10.6= .dmh
that is what you call bull$%^t
they need to have all the panels to be compatible with the new panel manager and the new panel manager should be available for all wm xperias, even if we don't get the 6.5, the new panel manager is the main thing needed
They will never do it, because it will hurt their X2 sales. Why would anyone want the X2 if they have 6.5 on their X1? The only reason would be the 1ghz processor..... oh wait....
but thats only for the x1 customers really
just as a random note for you guys. although there's no offical wm6.5 rom out. I did find a non-offical 6.5 rom that I was able to use. It probably is a fake, but then it looks quite good to me.
We have an amazing community here at XDA with great cooks so official or not, the ROMs are superb! and we have many to choose from and can even make our own. I'm sure someone will release the new panel thing to us sooner or later.

The list is very small.
Surely if there is an offical xip they must be planing to release and update otherwise why go to the effort of creating it.
Just got of the phone with X1 support in the uk they have confirmed that we will not get an affical 6.5 update and no idea whether we will get new panel manger either.
So im with Rota it's up to us (by us i mean the superb chefs we have on xda) to look after us.
Real X1 XIP
How can there be a real XIP for custom ROM's if SE are not releasing a 6.5 upgrade?
