Is there an OCR program for our phone which would let you take a photo of a document/magazine etc and convert that into text. A bit like the worldcard Mobile app but more versatile. I have searched and have so far come up with nothing.
If anyone knows of such an application please can you point me in the right direction.
There is quipit or something named like that, that allows your phone to work as a scanner. You take a picture of the document, then email it to their server and they convert it to pdf for you. Try a search for quipit or similar through google, it should show up.
There is also a service called Scanr (Scanr.com) that does the same thing.
Thanks guys but I was looking for something that was entirely on the phone so I could take a picture with the camera and then transfer it to text. Would be so much quicker than typing out or pairing up to send some stuff. Never mind I'm sure someone will come up with it one day.
Here is a free OCR software from Joerg Schulenburg under GPL licence:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=de&safe=active&as_qdr=all&q=ocr+Schulenburg&btnG=Suche&lr=lang_en
It is just a backend-software but it runs with Pocket PC. We would need a WM6 frontend (GUI) with an integration of the Kaiser-camera.

I went to the web page but unfortunately I'm not that intelligent to work out what I needed to do. I need an app to put on my phone to do it all for me! Like World card Mobile does.
GOCR is a free software, that may fit to xda-developers.
http://dfn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/jocr/gocr-0.44.tar.gz
There is a short manual inside, but it is no turnkey solution. GOCR even supports OCR for a proper handwriting.
Here is at least a Windows Frontend to GOCR:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/GOCR-Windows-Frontend.shtml
Maybe later GORC can become an app to put on the Kaiser (to do it all for us - like World card Mobile does).

Then you may have to wait a bit for someone else to do the work for you so all you have to do it run the .cab
At least one of the TyTN II localized phones didn't even come with World Card Mobile, so you at least have something.

You can use the ocr sdk for mobile devices from ABBYY.it is not free though.
http://www.abbyy.com/sdk/?param=56223
using this sdk, you can convert any image to text, either by using the camera or by browsing to an image file and processing it using the ocr.

Has anyone gotten this working with either GOCR or the ABBYY.it sdk? Or has anyone found an alternative application? The ABBYY FotoReader software would be perfect if there was a Windows Mobile version (existing version is for PC). If I was a software developer and had the time I'd get the sdk going, but it's beyond me at the moment. It really would be great to take a picture of a document and have it ocr'd right then available on your handheld like World Card Mobile does for business cards.

Hello every body
I’m looking for Automatic Number Plate Recognition software (OCR Optical character recognition) for Pocket PC.
I want to use it to recognize a license plate.
Is there anyone who already hears about it or use this kind of technology?
Thanks,
Hi Guys
I hope someone can help here, my Kaiser has office mobile but does nto have access built into this package
Is there a version of MS Access for WM6 at all and if so where can I find it?
Thanks
TW
www.kaione.com
sprintdb is probably the best option, but their sync is not yet compatible with active sync 4.5!!!!
Will this work with MS Access 2003 files though?
I use a Access DB a lot for one application and rather than converting query results to XLS files to view on my kaiser can i view access files while out on the move.
I am not worried about synch functions as i will simple upload the file to the device.
Check out www.syware.com they have database products. I used their product for several years when I was on the road.
You can get Access for windows mobile, i have a TYTN2 from orange UK and it is pre loaded with office, word, excel, powerpoint and access. I'm not sure where you can get an upgrade but it must be out there.
HandBase from ddh software is my favourite. If you get the professional version ($40) it comes with a PC sync conduit and forms designer. You can then link MSaccess tables directly to tables on your device and when you activesync they sync up too.
Worth downloading the demo.

Can anyone recommend a person who could write an excel based program that could be copied to a WM devise? I am new to this forum and do not have the knowledge or the time to develop the program, but i am willing to pay for it.
Thanks

Why not install office on your mobile. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310832
Or flash a ROM with office installed, most do

Dave
I agree, both are a great solution, but this project is not for myself. This project is more for job. This board has given me an idea for my customers, which do not own a Tilt. If this excel file was turned into a .cab file, my customers could add it to their PDA devise.
I'm not that familiar with program creation within a WM devise, but after lurking around this board for the past 6-9 months, I thought someone would know!
This is not a tilt specific CAB. It's a Window Mobile 6 version it cab go on WM6 any device.
Ta
Dave
I believe what you are saying is that a .cab can be installed on any WM devise. I agree. What i need to do is create the .cab file.
Yes you are correct. CAB files can go on any device.
I'm still unsure on what your requirements are. Do you want a copy of Excel to install on WM6 devices, then that's what I posted first time round? Nearly all standard WM and PDA's have a version of office installed, anyway.
Or, are you wanting a program like Excel Mobile but with "extra" features.
I think you need explain what your requirements are (without giving too much away, if you don't want to), so we can build a better picture of what you want.
Dave
You raise excellent questions as i'm not sure what is available. Unfortunatly, i cannot speak the language of this forum very well and am unsure of options available.
Currently, i have an excel spreadsheet with the calculations complete, but was unsure of how to create an "engine" to drive the program if the end user did not have excel available. This excel file i've created uses basic calculations which produce a number generated by data entered by end user. I am assuming an engine, or what i call a "cab" file is required!?!
Also, I'm not married to the idea of using excel and am open to using other programs if nessesary.
Am i making things a little clearer?
Thanks
like daveshaw said, most wm devices already come with excel in it. and if your customer does not have excel on their devices, then they can install it using the cab files
It sounds to me like you want to take a specific spreadsheet that was created using Excel, and somehow compile it as a program that doesn't need Excel to run. I don't think this is possible. You can't drive a car without its engine.
If you really wanted to pursue that route, I think what you'd need is someone who can dissect and analyze your spreadsheet, and rewrite it in another language (like C++ ), which can be compiled into a self-contained, executable file. Wish I could help you there.
I think your only realistic option is to install Excel on all the WM devices.

Everyone, thanks for you help. Sensei909 has figured me out. It sounds like i need someone to who can rewrite this in another language. Can anyone point me in that direction....Website, company, friend???
Re:
Hello, few questions:
1) What devices will your customers use?
2) If they are Windows Mobile-based, what versions are here?
3) Do you have Excel Mobile on your Tilt?
4) Did you try to open your spreadsheet using your Excel Mobile?
5) If your spreadsheet is created using Excel 2007 on desktop, did you install Office Mobile 6.1 from Microsoft site?
Build a java midlet? Almost all phones have java. I can see it doing basic calculations very easily.
Can't use the search with an itouch.
Long time wm user of ten years trying to jump to android.
Is there a native app to edit excel or word on the n1?
Is there an rdp client? There must be vnc if not. VPN IPSec or other?
Any apps out there to map and browse ms network drives?
Googledocs or "Documents to Go" (chargeable).
Cheers!

No but there ought to be. I use gdocs which is decent and free. And I have documents to go which only views docs but I purchased the second docs to go app to unlock document editing which ive had a favorable experience with. As far as I know those are the two options for editing documents...I think docs to go (editing version) was $20 when I bought it but may be cheaper now. I've used it maybe 5 times to edit docs and its worth it to me.
Also I've even edited docs remotely on my laptop and my desktop with phonemypc ($10 I think), one of my absolute favorite apps and I'm pretty picky about what apps I keep....
Does anyone know or can anyone confirm there is a Network Plugin type app like WinMo had that allows you to map shared folders in WP8? Thats one of the major things thats keeping me on the fence about jumping from WinMo 6.1 to WP8. If someone can compile an app i can throw them the .cab file if they are too lazy to find it
I didn't see any apps for Windows Networking connectivity in a brief search of the store. It is not just a matter of recompiling, though; even if you have the source, WinMo apps and WP apps work very differently, and it would be a fair bit of effort (for example, the UI would need to be re-written) to make it work on WP8.
Also, WP doesn't have any built-in file managers. WP7 has homebrew ones for unlocked phones, but so far there's nothing really equivalent for WP8. I did think somebody was writing a SMB client app for WP7 that would let you browse network shares and open the files on them using your phone, but I can't find it in the Store.
There is an app for this (C)
