I just bought a new SD card, 4 GB, class 4. And my old one was only 2 GB, not sure what class. And i'm not sure what steps i need to do to get everything i had on my old one and get everything to be the same as before without any problems.
My sd card is partitioned and has linux swap with ext 2 converted to ext 3.
Phone is rooted and running MLIGN-Hero 2.5.5 and i think my apps are on my sd card, but not 100% sure.
And also i'm using Amon Ra's Custom Recovery v1.2.2 and used that to partition my sd card.
Do a nandroid back-up. After you do that, on your PC, copy the nandroid folder from your SD to your desktop. Then, format and partition your new 4 gig SD. I would make the ext3 and linux-swap partition the same size as you had them on the 2 gig SD. Finally, copy the nandroid folder on your PC desktop to the 4 gig SD, put it in the phone, boot into recovery, and run a nandroid restore. Everything should be good.
Just incase you need it...
Code:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 xxxx
mkpartfs primary ext3 xxxx yyyy
mkpartfs primary linux-swap yyyy zzzz
quit
upgrade_fs
reboot (or) reboot recovery
thanks, i really appreciate it. i'll try it out now. i'll make another quick reply when i'm done to say if everything worked out fine.

ok this is weird, when i go to to the nandroid backup it says "Error : Backup not performed!"
EDIT: nvm i fixed it. i just had to reboot.
EDIT: nvm again, it worked for a little while then the same error message showed up again.
didnt work, i got stuck in a boot loop at the hero loading screen, im just gonna use my old one for now then ill have to go back to the store and trade in the 4 gb sdcard for a new one and try again.
wtf?!?! now none of my apps work! as soon as i open it and then try to click on something inside the app i get a force close (the one where it doesnt have the option to "wait")
nvm i just did a nandroid restore from my old sdcard.

I don't believe nandroid backs up your SD also. Just internal flash. So you'll need to find another way, I believe you can do this through adb

well, i wish it was that easy. i think my new sdcard is broken anyways, when i did it the first time, i got stuck in a boot loop. then i went back to recovery, got rid of my ext 3 i think or something like that, and then i put it in my computer and formatted it, and then did it all over again, and then this time my apps didnt work, actually, wait i think i know what you mean... hmmm.... brb i'm gonna try what you basically said. sorry for all the typing, i have a habit of over typing things, lol.
well, ran in to a major problem. now everytime i try to do anything i get an error saying to run _________ (<--whatever it says) via console. so is my sdcard broken? cause i really dont feel like going out and buying a anew one.

Sorry if this has been adressed before, but i did use the search and i cannot quite figure out what to do next. I might have dropped my phone the other day, and since then none of my apps run from the SD becase it thinks that it was ejected. So, i wiped and installed a clean JackXrom again, and it was fine for about 20 min, then phone locked up, and when i restarted, i get the same problem. Should i format the partitions on the card perhaps? I was trying to avoid that, so any work around would be helpfull.

If it only happened once it shouldn't be an issue, but if it does it wouldn't hurt to format your ext.
In recovery
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
rm -r /system/sd/*
I tried repairing my ext, no luck.
Whenever i try to mount in recovery console i get error : No such file or directory

Sounds like you need to delete the partition and make a new one, as it can't be read. If you're going to use parted from you're phone then you'll probably have to start over and recreate fat (and linux-swap if you had one) too. If you're using paragon or Gparted you should be able to recreate just your ext.
I cant recall which tutorial i fallowed, but it was all done through the terminal or recovery. Could you possibly point me to the right thread?

if you can remember the start and end of youre ext partition i think you can do this in parted by typing print then note down the start and end then type mkpartfs primary ext2 start - end

Everytime i try to mount in recovery i get "mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: device or resource busy"
I'm lost.
pull your battery our for 30 seconds or so. remove your sd card then reinsert it and then try again. if that doesnt work then do what the others guys have said and try to reformat your sd card and start from scratch.

Actually, with Parted you can just rm and mkpartfs any partition you want without affecting the other partitions.
I bit the bullet and just formated all the partitions.
Thanks anyways guys.
My advice for next time or any body else reading would be to download a live CD for ubuntu or fedora or similar and boot your PC off that - it's graphical and v. easy.
Or just dump windows altogether and go for linux ;-)
Smiffy.

Yeah Gparted is amazing problem is then you have to walk the person through downloading, burning the image...which can be painful.
This is still happening, fresh format on sd card partitios and a wipe and clean install of Jacxrom.

Bump, dead SD card?
partition corrupted anyway to recover?
I need help please!
I was running cyanogen 4.0.3.1 just installed today morning then changed theme to enoch 1.12 the newest one that worked fine. Updated the browser to loccys Then installed the HTC music and when finally rebooted the phone it was working fine until I noticed I had none of my apps on the sdcard.
All I have is syste/app folder which runs internally I think everything else does not work. It's like my sdcard is not in.
I shutdown rebooted and waited. Then removed sdcard rebooted and inserted the card one fully powered on and it is saying it wants to format it.
I get home turn my ubuntu system on and it detects it as a ext3 partition yet nothing inside. and now no fat32 partition or linux-swap.
anyways to recover or am I SOL?
Well I'm on xROM with HardSPL, stop the flaming I know. My SD CARD doesn't work on xROM so I have to someone downgrade without using a SD Card. Anyway I can do it so I can pop my SD Card back in and reroot? Or somehow change back to Cyan's ROM?
how are you on xRom with the hard spl?
Hey you are up late, wow you have nothing but problems with your sdcard, might want to invest the $15 for a new one.
Can you mount your sd in recovery console by typing ums_enable
That's the thing I had HardSPL and put the xROM in my SDCard and ran it through bootloader. Now nothing works, only calling and messaging. No Wifi nothing. I need to get out if you can help.

To delete existing partitions and repartition via recovery console, here are the commands once you've entered console and then hit enter to get to the prompt:
Copied & pasted from another thread HERE...
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with. Mine was 8166 read below if yours is different)
rm 1 (if you had more than 1 partition you would want to rm them as well)
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 7622
mkpartfs primary ext2 7622 8134
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 8134 8166
quit
upgrade_fs
recovery
If you just want one partition for fat32, just use the first mkpartfs command and use 0 through whatever the total size of your card is...
sup everybody
yo i just got a class 6 8gb microsdhc card i was happy nstuff getting ready to set it up for my g1(use to have a 4gb card)
and i formated it with all the partitions etc.
i put my backup of my fat32 partition on my new card
and i was getting ready to flash and going through the procedures of wipe/repair/flash
but when repairing my ext filesystems
it gives me an error no matter what i do saying that it cant mount the sdcard period!!! so i took off my backup of my fat thinking that it was effecting it, and it wasnt. Giving me the same error
so what am i missing here???
what do i do to get my g1 running again
what am i doing wrong
try to re-partition your card again. (also its freke)
im repartiton again
lol i can always rely you david to come on in and help a n*gga out
Don't wipe. Use switchrom.sh (see sig) on your 4GB and just restore to your 8GB. No wipe and good as new in minutes.
well fcuk i wiped but i though i remember devsk saying if you reformat the system sd then you cant restore with switchrom becuase it only stores the app and app private data or something like that correct me if im wrong?
yo wait i repartitioned and i got a switchrom back up!!!yes
but ithought it runs off the system sd which i dont have acess to
idk ill figure it out if i need help ill re reply
you can't restore it bc you won't have the switchrom.sh on your ext3 just put it back on and then restore. the dalvik-cache gets recreated each boot.
fkuc yes i did it
i found out you can do it throught the sdcard instead of the system/sd

switchrom.sh is the best thing you can do for your Android device. Period! I flash like crazy now. I've tried just about every ROM there is and when I'm done, I switchrom back to my usual setup. I even swap SD cards when I feel like it. It's awesome.
So, I got a 4GB sdcard the other day. It came out of a blackberry a friend of mine was using. I formatted the card to FAT32 with the utility in windows 7, and everything seemed to be fine. I downloaded ext2fsd to be able to copy my ext partition to my new card. I followed the directions from the website about mounting the ext partition.
After I performed the steps above, my sdcard became unusable. I tried to take it out, and put it back in my card reader, and I get an error saying windows needs to format the drive, if I try to format it, it doesn't work. I've tried in gparted as well, and also get an error. I even tried from Amon's revorery, and sdparted in the console. I don't get errors with the latter two, but my card reader still says it's RAW.
I know that was lengthy, but I'm trying to figure out anymore steps to take, or if I should just throw the card away.
Thanks
ok..
wow.
You have to have 3 partitons. If you only format it with 1 partiton, you cant save data on a partition that doesnt exsist.
You have to go to recovery console and make a fat32, ext3 and linux swap partion.
I dont have the patience to go trhough it all with you because its in 100 different threads so .. use search?
Not trying to be rude, but this is stuff you can fin don your own here very easily if you werent expecting someone to do it for you
EDIT-- sorry, dont think i read fully what you did. I had this same thing happen today on a friends brand new 8gb.
HEres what I did since you have Amen ras recovery..
Format to just FAT32.
Turn on usb
give it a second to pop up and it will and check the size.
Then turn off the usb, go into parted on console, rm 1, then remake all 3 partitons according to the size of the card.
I suggest not using the full partiton in the recovery because it usualy screws up the swap.
From there you will be fine.
If it doesnt work that way, then im sorry, the card may be pooped or to low a class maybe?

Yeah, I know you're not trying to be rude, but I know I need 3 partitions. I'm pretty aware of the way a sd card needs to be partitioned. I've tried everything mentioned. I think it's about time to call it quits. It's a class 2 card, so I don't think that's the issue, and I can't format in Ubuntu, or Windows. Oh well I suppose. Thanks.
You can try this app. Its called Sd formatter...it reformats the SD. IT worked for me.

I forgot to include this in the original list of things I tried, but I did give it a go. It is telling me the card is write-protected even though the switch on the adapter is set to the unlocked position. I've also tried it with a different adapter. I appreciate everybody's input.
well try using parted commands to write from block 0 to the last block and partition the whole thing as fat32
is that not working?
did you tried partitioning with RA 1.2.3 recovery?
@B-man007
I haven't tried writing the whole thing to FAT32 with parted. I'll give that a try tonight (don't have the card with me).
@cholito
I'm using RA 1.2.2, I think the script is the same, so I don't know that it would make a difference if I was using that or 1.2.3
Hello.. as the title states im having issues.
ok, so i recently rooted my g1when i saw Gnav was live (w00t) and all was well until i decided to partition my pqi class6 4gb partitioned as listed below.
ok heres the kicker.. every thing is fine until i start installing apps then it will just lock up then when i try to restart i get a black screen after the cm loading screen and thats it.. only way to get it back to life is to delete then repartition the card...... i reflashed, repartitioned and factory reset about 10 times and finally gave up and wiped card back to full fat32 and no swap or ext3 then reflashed cm 4.2.5 and have been running flawless for a week now so i have narrowed it down to my sdcard... any ideas on WTF could be going on here?? are pqi cards no good maybe?? it was real cheap i caught a deal on it about a year ago.. something like 2x4gb for 15 bucks shipped. I have never had any file loss when using it just for storage or anything.
heres how i had the partitions layed out
0 3459
3459 3971
3971 4003
i also tried ext4 aaaand out of desperation cm 4.2.4 with no luck
any insight greatly appreciated, I didnt know if i should post this here,in development or accessories but its a Q and im lookin for a A
Thanx
-Bop
Well I had the same issue with my phone, but I switched over to Amon-RA recovery and it does SdCard partition for you, You just have to enter the number's you want and it does the rest in recovery mode. This is how to flash it on this page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669.
errrm i dont think the recovery is the issue, i really like cm 1.4 for the fact that it has a console
thanx.
Next
Amon_RA has a console too....
if you dont want to use that, then format it through parted with 1.4
Amon_RA's does the same thing but its much easier (he basically added automated scripts to the 1.4 recovery, since it is actually based off 1.4)
Thanx.....but that's not my issue, please thouroghly read my opening post.
Thanx again
Also I should probably add one note here....it don't lock up as soon as I install a app.... I can get 3 to 5 apps in be4 what's explained in my OP happens.

Yes to the nandroid but your EXT will not be backed up. make sure you grab the right nandroid folder
if you want ext backup, you will need a BART or SwitchROM backup with the EXT backup

Thanx a ton
haha ok well its good to know you got it working
yeah so far so good.. 1last q...i have read mixed angles on enabling swap on sd.. i saw some1 say if its there cm4.2.5 will use it.. but i have saw ppl say it needs to be enabled.
I have never saw my mem get lower than 20MB should i even bother with swap?
its not enabled by default, you have to do it yourself. You shouldnt really need it on a cyan ROM.
